Hi
My son and daughter both have GT540 that originally came with carphone warehouse 1.6.
Following posts I've got them to 2.1
There now asking me to look at other ROMs.
What ROM would you recommend and how do I install them ?
I own a HTC Desire and am currently running MildWild (based on Oxygen 2.3.2)
I know Oxygen is available for the GT540, would you think that is a good move ?
How do I install either that or another ROM on the GT540 ?
Thanks
How: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224747
Which: oxygen is a good choice. Or any CyanogenMod 7 (swift Droid second life or CyanogenMod with .32 kernel)

Yes asis is deodexed but has not so good memory management like sdsl v3
Sent from my LG GT540 Swift
Best roms we have at the moment are:
- sdsl v3 (and maybe v4)
- pcf v6
Both have small bugs. PcF v6 is faster but a few games doesn't work in my phone.
SDSL V4 is faster than v3, requires smaller system partition than v3 but have some bugs and quadrant score in 3d is smaller than v3... you can try it...

stable rom -> froyo
- utopia 2.2.1 final
- AOSP 2.2.2 v2.3 final ( .32 kernel) or v1.9 (.29 kernel, slower but no bugs)
Now that you reminded me of Utopia +1!!
Utopia = fast and stable

which one is more stable? Im using Utopia but if the PCF rom with new kernel is stable maybe I should change
edit: all .32 kernes roms I tried, all sucks.
Try pcf v5 with sp1,2 and latest zice update(v4). Is the best rom ivever tried! The fastest and the most stable. I dont need oc, only smartassv2 gov and 122-600mhz...

This Until camera and deep sleep fix for ICS by mike, with out a doubt faster and smoother than pcfs v5 (but still if its for kids pcfs is a good choice)
Sent from my GT540 ICS Beta 4 - XDA App
on pcf blog says that you can download update_zice instead of SPs.
which froyo rom is the best, utopia or pcf? i need a stable rom,and speacially, the camera is as good as 2.1 ^^
if pcf, which version i should use, .32 or .29.
thanks for my bad english
with pcf rom I had a lot of kernels panics and "wifi enable" error (tried 2.2.2 and cyanogen7). Guess Ill continue with utopia, all other roms are in beta, does not matter if the dev writes its full version.

No more updates coming. No more Development by PCFighter.
You can download 2.3.7 v6 and 2.2.2 AOSP from forum.android.pl because pcfighter doesn't want downloads to be posted on xda.
CyanogenMod 7.2 / Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread Features:
- new kernel: 2.6.32 for an ultrafast UI & no lags. It's much smoother and faster than most other ROMs with .29
- SmartAss v2 CPU governor makes the CPU scaling always high enough for no lags and still saves battery life.
- USB tether (which doesn't work on .29 kernel)
- accu temperature (does not even work on stock ROM)
- FM-Radio
- Screen Calibration (?)
- CPU overclock up to 864mHz (you shouldn't go over 825, it just causes bugs, kernel panics and wastes battery juice)
- CyanogenMod 7.2 with all features for a high customizability and great performance
- Screenshots attached
Versions:
CyanogenMod 7 v6: For key backlight copy lights.swift.so to /system/lib/hw from v5. give it chmod 644
or the older telease with key backlight and higher brightness:
CyanogenMod 7 v5
+ Service Pack 1
+ Service Pack 2
+ GApps (Market...)
+ boot.img with zice's fixes and changed colours (no Artifacts on wakeup, CIFS, SWAP)
(+ zice's kernel without changed colours)
Clear dalvik cache & cache after installing
AOSP 2.2.2 FroYo Features:
- new kernel: 2.6.32 for an ultrafast UI & no lags. It's much smoother and faster than most other ROMs with .29
- latest (v20e) kernel source with BFS, SIO, CPU governors for being even faster
- FroYo is faster than Gingerbread has a better battery life and is rock stable. It's for everyday usage and with many features compared to stock 2.1.
- manual network search
- Overclock (not very stable, anyway you won't need it)
- Screen Calibration
- Themes available: First Blood and Sense Theme
- Screenshots attached
Versions:
AOSP 2.2.2 v2.3 with 2.6.32 kernel (sometimes bugs)
AOSP 2.2.2 v1.9 with slower 2.6.29 kernel but working without any bugs
All credits go to PCFighter. Don't post downloadlinks for the ROM.
i would like to put it when some bugs are solved
I am making zip patch to boot a .29 kernel, so you will use rom with full options.

Nice to hear that somebody is working on new kernel.
Gosh!!
We're having .32 kernel. Mike's almost finished with .35. We have AOSP and CM7 Gingerbread, AOSP and CM6 Froyo, AOSP and Stock Eclair. We have so much!!! Thanks to all the devs for making this phone wonderful!
please fix wifi drivers. wifi turning on scanning and error. thanks
I know that, I will release new versions of .32 and .29 maybe today.
I really don't get it why people are asking for the .29 kernel Guys, you have muraiks rom wich is the best it can get on CM7 if you ask me :/ I'd let the developer focus on the .32 kernel MAINLY on this rom :/ as you see, there are few bugs and camera doesn't work which is normal but, it's just my opinion nice work will keep an eye on this one

For me the best choice and most stable + longest battery life is FroyoPro v2.4 with the stock kernel, it is just awesome . I have it stable at 748Mhz which is just enough, no lags, no bugs etc. Try it, it's worth it.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401733
The most stable and matured custom ROMs are generally Froyo (Android 2.2) ROMs.
The least bugs, the least trouble.
Gingerbread (Android 2.3) ROMs like GingerDX and MiniCM7 (though MiniCM7 only runs on its own custom kernel) are also very stable, but you may encouter some more bugs than with Froyo ROMs. No real biggies, just the one or another small, mostly annoying, bug.
Game on! Lol
Froyo it seems. Fast, least features (which makes it faster ) and less bugs because in the past the bugs were easier to fix. More Easier than gingerbread or ICS

everyting works
i'd say that i'm noob here
and the first rom is gingerdx and working fine with no problems
and with stock kernal so what about alfs?
it's very stable to me
this my opinion
for me most stable roms are: LinuXperia v5.1; v 5.5; heroDROID and now im using fdxperience v 2.4.4. Im with stock kernel cuz i cannot unlock it :/ also if u like music u should choose heroDROID. it has the best sound quality from all roms i ve been having (it was a lot of this )
I think Gingerdx version 20, it really still stable, smooth and slow more drain battery than version 22
Press thanks if i helped
Linuxperia is very stable

Thx gyz you are the best
I'd like to share my personal experience with u guyz about ROMS that i have tried so far which are every single ROM on the list for our mini
my conclusion at the end is that :
1. CM 7.xx RC xx are the best (thnx to squadzone) very fast and very stable and excellent at gaming and alot of options for u
2. Chocobread (fast too but lags sometimes and simple )
3. emanoN (didnt like much but still its better than stock rom )
4. All others are the same in my opinion
plz share ur opinion too to conclude the best ROM at the end
Emanon v3 is the best for me. V4 is not as fast as stable as v3, waiting for v5
Give a try at mebitek cm7 and subpsike cm7, but nothing for me as parasmi v3
Only a though obviusly

my opinion about the Roms :
Cyanogen series is good and stable
Choco bread also stable in form but little modifications needed.
Enamom v4 is stable .but lil same like choco bread.

But urfotunately nowadays my phone often reboot itself, I don't know why, maybe because the S2E, but I still love emanon

At first, I used Emanon v3, but then I had little problems with the wifi, so I changed to CM 7.2 RC 5.2 -> 5.3 because I didn't like Emanon V4 and when I read that V5 had a lot of things from CM 7, I was happy to have cm7.
For me, the best ROM is CM 7.2 RC xx (I prefer 5.3) because it has so many good tweaks and it's more easy to customize. But Emanon ROM is good for those who want a simple but very stable and fast ROM.

I feel the same way with the ROM i have:
CyanogenMOD 7.2 RC 5.3 + ICS Theme (Theme Chooser) + OC 768mhz + InteractiveX Governor = Perfection v2.0! xD
Cyanogenmod 7.2 unofficial by Squadzone is the best rom ever! I've tried most rom but this is most stable, fast, responsive, and has a minimun impact on rom and battery!
Cm7 Rc2.5.6 verry good

rc5.7 with all the updates get my vote.
CyanogenMod is the best.
version 7.2 RC5.7 by squadzone have a lot of interesting features.
I vote for this one.
Emanon V5 + Ics RainySunday theme + OC min. 122mhz / max. 768mhz + governor smartassV2 + i/o vr = perfection! (2144 score with Quadrant Advanced)
Love Squad's RC5.7 with lots of features but still many bugs.
So mebitek RC1 for now.
We must respect the developers who provided us such roms for free. All roms are good in their place but have few bugs. Now I'm using CyanMobile Initial A & had tried Emanon v5 and CM7.2rc5.7

Hi sir, I'm using latest XXMr.Hyde's RC1-10 with Lagfix since yesterday...it seems very stable until now...I also try Jarvis, Nova and HP Supersonic kernel...all of these are pretty nice and stable but for my daily used...i'm on ironkrnL kernel.
I'm using V20s 2.3.4 roote
Baseband: 1035.21_20120521

Very nice combination
@jimguitar: this is not ICS
I have tried every cm9 available on xda for the last few months and I must admit that MrHyde's RC1-10 with stock cm kernel is the most stable, responsive and fluid so far.
I also have tried all the kernels possible with OC but none of them beats stock cm at least for me. The phone doesn't slow down after some time, it's just perfect.
Also no freezes, reboots etc.

Try CM7.2 RC1 (24/04/12 version) by vo-1, it is the most stable ROM i know, then just remove what you don`t need with Titanium Backup and you have one of the most fast ROMs ever for Ace
I`m using it right now since 01/12
Fast and Stable ROM for you!
One of the best ROM's I found is called Zero Gravity Supernova RC1.
right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698306
Super stable, and fast, even with the animations enabled. There's plenty of RAM avalialbe in this ROM and RAM Manager Pro to keep it that way. Official Cyanogen Mod 7 ROM so it is super reliable. It's a barebone ROM and fast. I love this thing and have been using it for a good month and love it! I suggest going to the blog the developer has to get all the full version apps. XDA doesn't allow paid apps to be posted, but oh well.

@OP
there is no "fastest rom, smoothest rom, etc etc etc"
in my opinion, fastest ROM is PLAIN CM 7.2 RC3 by vo-1 + Skynet28 OC kernel + Without ane script or modification.
but, it can be diiferent with your opinion.
here I'll give you some "nice ROM to try"
1. LeWa ROM

Imo, you can "create" your own ROM straight from your device.
-DE-Odex /system/app
-Add build.prop tweaks and change the name of XXKPH or what ever you have to something like "Bob's ROM"
-Install CF-Root B83 (More stable than 84) Overclock if you wish.
-Install Adrenaline(TM) Engine 4.2, after you do the kernel or it will not work.
-Make sure APK's are Zipaligned, in Tweak manager you can do this in other tweaks
-Install Root Explorer from google play (or elsewhere...)
-Install a custom launcher (EG HoloLauncher TW4.5 Mod by Spacecaker (has a new name now i think) Put in /system/app and set permissions to RW- R-- R--
-Reboot
-Remove bloatware from /system/app, you can find a list of crap on Cyanogenmod Wiki
-You should now have a STABLE and FAST ROM
Hi!
I my option "StockLite" ist the best and most stable rom! Boots fast, saves Battery, no CrapWare, Patches for MMS/SMS and some Optis
Test it you will love it...In the middle of July 7.5 will be released A nice rom!

Even no have to use any scripts. I just love this ROM. Just try;]
There is no most fast and stable rom, every one has his own opinion.
Let's say i love stock roms and some1 loves cm7. my most fast and stable rom will be stock and for him cm7.
