Hi guys recently rooted and installed CWM.
But I have no idea where to start on roms. I have kk9 stock rom, does this mean I have to kk9 based roms or can I just install any I want?
Also is there any recommended cwm guides to make sure I don't brick my note?
you can flash all CWM flashable roms you are not limited to kk9 only roms.
actually using it is very easy but dont a guide for it.

after seeing so many bricked by ics kernal etc, i just got my note for a week, and seeing this brick thread is holding me back, but i assume most are to do with leaked ics kernal and some not flashing properly
i came from the htc desire z which i was very flash happy flashed all kind of rom without any problem, but the galaxy note does worry me that kernal casue motherboard failure. however i am still very interested to at least root and flash custom GB rom. how safe are the custom GB rom on galaxy note?
also how easy to unroot the device for warranty purpose?
If you read the instructions on each ROM's OP for GB roms than it is perfectly safe. You are not flashing any leaked kernels/repacks.
You can always Odin back to a stock ROM that isn't rooted.
All GB roms are safe - just follow the instructions.
To unroot follow the root-unroot sticky guide in dev section.
I can suggest you to use the Rocket Rom. Just followe the dev's instruction and you'll be safe and happy

I am on rooted stock GB LA6 with Abyss kernel 4.2. As I have bricked my phone in the past and have a replaced one now, I am a little caution about ICS.
Could someone answer the following questions?
- What is the safest way to upgrade to the official ICS UK ROM?
- Is the ICS UK ROM wipe or non-wipe?
- If I will lose root after upgrading, what is the safest way to root the official ICS UK ROM?
- Will I be able to flash a new kernel and recovery on the new ICS ROM?
- What are the best (safest) kernel and recovery for ICS?
- And, finally, for safety, how to revert back to stock UK GB ROM if ICS doesn't work out?
I am sure these questions have been answered somewhere else, but again, it would be helpful to have these answers in one place, in an easy-to-follow language. Please be as clear as possible in your responses as these answers will be read by newbies, too. Thanks.

Its non wipe. I had stock gb la6. Upgraded via kies to lq2 ics. Still had all data. Then I rooted using cwm method. Flashed icstunner.

+1 to all those questions.
I just flashed the original rooted LC1 , gb rom from here, added CWM and abyss kernel and all is good. However , I am downloading now the stock ICS LQ2 rom and don't know if it is ok to flash it via PC odin, putting the 3 files in PDA, CSC, MODEM, or is it some special procedure I need to follow ?
Hello dear XDA peeps
I need some help here or maybe I dont, thats why Im asking!
I rooted and followed all the guides a couple of months back, must be over half a year, and installed ICS Stunner 1.4.19. At that time that was simply the most interesting for my Note. These days when more stable ICS roms seem much more appealing. Altho Im thinking Im waiting for a stable working beta for JB
Since I havent done some ROM loving for quite a while Im quite confused where to begin, do I need to upgrade CWM Manager first? I have version 3.15. Or can I go straight on new ROMs? I spent some time reading about updating CWM today and it seems I have a really dangerous kernel version, 3.0.15-I9220ZLP5-CL295568 and if I understand the CWM Manager thread correctly thats part of the dangerous kernels. Which seems quite dangerous to update it since I cant find a safe version of CWM Manager to update to.
So the bottom question, do I need to update CWM Manager first to do anything safe or update the kernel first to perhaps an old safe rooted GB kernel? All the guides and stuff says the safest way is to first install an old safe GB kernel and then install a ICS or JB kernel (not at the moment tho) but is this the truth in my case?
Anyway, I really appreciate if you could give me some advice here
Thanx in advance

There is newer cf root that is 5.6. This is a safe rooted stock kernel by chainfire with CWM manager.
The devs suggest when installing TW ics custom rom it is recommended to install it while already in ics rom.
First install stock gingerbread rom, while in gingerbread rom do the wiping data, cache, and dalvik and then flash ics rom for clean installation. DO NOT WIPE IN STOCK ICS ROM, DANGEROUS. READ THE WARNING IN THE FORUM.
You can choose any tw custom rom you like.
If you want suggestion on what custom rom just ask i gave you one.
Ok, still not sure what do to first but it is safe to install a GB rom first? Updating CWM isn't that important? What I meant was that I still cant find a fitting version to install. Nearest version is: CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.5-CWM5.zip but thats on the danger list so Im still confused about what version to download.. :/
Perhaps CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.6-CWM5.zip is safe to install tho?
EDIT: I saw that I had cf-root version 5.2, it was CWM Manager that was version 3.15
EDIT: getting a new baseband comes with a rom, no need to install baseband seperatly? For example, getting Cassie's XtraLiteRom Version X LC1 295Mb is getting my baseband LC1 too?

You can flash the cassies custom rom directly over the stunner rom if you want to, just be sure to use ABYSS KERNEL for wiping.
Base band also known as modem. There are many flashable modem to choose so no problem what modem you Want.
If you want to install cassies latest custom rom you will get also the latest CWM recovery and manager.
Uhm ok.. so much information Im confused as usual
I cant find exactly abyss kernel. Can it be this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424/
And can I flash all roms via CWM or do I have to use PC ODIN?
EDIT: found the abyss note kernel, really slow downloading tho.

Hi everybody,
I have a SG i9000 with a stock frimware
Id like to upgrade to this custom frimware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223 but for the installation, the procedure says that I need to use CWM, thing that I do not know how to install it. so the question is that CWM is essential for the install or I can just une ODIN to install directly the custom firmware.
another question is the phone need to be rooted befor ??
thx a lot
You get Cwm by flashing a CF-root via Odin. There are so many tutorials that it's disappointing to see this question being asked.

True.
whats your stock kernel version?
hi all, i spent too much time switching trought kitkat cm roms, without finding a stable one for daily use, now i'm thinking to revert to jb, my question is simple, which way?
1-revert with odin?
2-flash a custom "basic" jb?
3-????
i heard there are "aligned and deoxed" jb stock roms, but i don't know what it means and how to get those, also, i need something that works with cocore, at least to speed up things a little bit.
thanks all

I think the best way is to flash stock with Odin, and then install JB ROM that you want (before that ofcourse install CoCore).
where i can retrieve stock roms to flash with odin?
(can i flash stock roms via cwm recovery? or via odin without wiping cmw)
thanks a lot

You can flash stock ROM with CWM, but you can't over 4.4. Because it has repartitioned preload partition to be used for swap. It will bootloop if you just flash stock ROM. You can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612540
Or you can flash stock JB firmware that can be found on samsung-updates.com or sammobile.com. You must use I9070 firmware over I9070 phone or I9070P firmware over I9070P phone, otherwise you will hardbrick your device.
