Hi guis.. i need one thing to ask you..
Is there something that I can do to save contact as backup... but I want to save contacts and pictures on that contacts...
Thanks
Enzo,
simply associate your phone to a Google account and your contacts will be safe even after a ROM flash or a new (Android) phone purchase. No software needed.
Cool eh?
Or, if you really want an app for a local backup, I think that MyBackup is a good app for that.
Ciao

I'm agree, the best think is synchronize it with google account! If you want you can exported it by gmail, in many format compatible with many app.
Thanks guys

when u sync, ur contacts are saved on ur gmail account. So when u sign in again after installing the rom, it should synced back to ur phone.
well at least thats what i did and my contacts are back and fine.
Dude, seriously? Two threads? Why don't you search, then try Q&A thread. Both are your friends.
OP: Please stop making threads like this in the Dev forum.
Use Google Sync.
how long did you have a g1? let alone a google account. if you didnt know there was a contact sync. wow.
#1- Google sync wont work for me because I only want to restore my phone contacts not the 500 contacts I have in gmail.
#2-Rooted backup wont workin because I will need to back this up BEFORE I root my phone.
Im using mybackup pro.
Most open source communities encourage questions. Ill go find a real one.
Well give us all the information first. Sim backup will backup the contacts to the sim card, then just restore the sim contacts when you flash.
Yes, we encourage questions in the q&a section, with all useful information -- not half.

Unless you've disabled contact sync, all your contacts have been backed up to google's servers, and next time you sign in with your google account info they will be restored. This also means if your phone is lost or stolen you can still access your contacts from the Gmail web interface. Seriously, push contacts are the best thing since sliced bread.

they also encourage having the ability to be able to find the solutions to the most basic questions by yourself.
After continuosly flashing my device smt I have to format so all contacs are lost,
Ususally I use the export to sd card feature to restore contacs,
I`ve tried the outlook and Kies Sync, also Google sync,
but it seems none of them is perfect, because many joined contacts and icons are lost,
Which is the best way, without using any back up Apk?
u can export ur all contacts from contacts menu...u can backup them in ur sd or sd card and copy them in ur pc and then after flashing import back the contacts......this is the best way i do.......coz in this contacts remain as same as last time.......nothing is change no pic and associated contacts of gmail and other remove.
The best was is move your contacts to your Gmail account and let them sync.
Then if you have to wipe your device you can get everything back by just entering your Gmail email address and password.

I only sync my contacts and calendar to google. Don't technically use the phone or sim at all. Every flash I add my google account again and it's all back!
That's the way to do it.
Sorry for being stupid but how do I sync my contacts to gmail

The export as stated in the second post is my way to go.

What about the joined contacts with facebook, do they come back after restore?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I use both local back up (SD ) and google sync
I prefer Google Sync .
Google sync is good, it actually can restore your contacts to early time , I backed back to SD card too but till now , I haven't use it .
Google all the way, so easy! I really can't see what the problem is!

They do in my case. Or you could try an add-on contact manager app like GOcontacts which has the capability to search for duplicate contacts and then merge.

Me too, never lost any contacts or calendar entries...
i backup phone numbers in sim and all of them in google and facebook contacts stays there as it will synch back
backup contacts to sd card.... move them to PC then export them to your gmail contacts... gmail will join same contacts.
thats it... never lose your contacts again
vCards
I often us the share option and send the contacts a vCard to my gmail, and after flashing i just go to that email and download the vCard and all my contacts are restored. The other plus in that way is that i can choose which one to sand as vCard
MyPhoneExplorer has always done it for me
1. Backup Contacts, SMS, Events
2. Installs APKs
3. File Explorer and lots more
Have never touched Kies....
I save my contacts to ext sd card

Same here, Google sync is most reliable !
try Uia backup contact
synchronising your contacts either with your google acc. or an exchange account is a very reliable solution to protect your contacts. if you setup your fon from scratch you just have to hook up to the network and get connected to your 'cloud service' - the sync function installed on your fon will do the rest in seconds / minutes.
i sighed up a new gmail email accout i would like to use , it is possible to transfer my apps as i have purchased apps ect on my current gmail acocut.

so ???? will that save all my saved apps , whats the process to change my primary gmail to another gmail account ? ,
awnser was verry vauge .
you will have to root and back up all your apps with titanium backup, any app that requires an email address check(meaning it wont work without the email that purchased it) wont work but i dont think there are that many that do that..
then you will have to do a factory reset, set up your new email reroot and then restore apps....
What if you added a second Google account onto your phone with your new address and then just stopped synching the email, calendar, etc from the old one?
Sent from my Cappy
Any purchased apps are tied to your gmail account.
I don't know how to move that to a new account, or if it is even possible.
This is probably a question that needs to go to a broader audience than just captivate users, if not straight to Google's support forum.
ok thanks for the help all , i will try posting in a general section ! , apreciate it.
If you have ICS, you know that it is not possible to store contacts on the phone per-se, and rather ICS forces you to store them in one of your Google Accounts. I was wondering based on the experience of other users on this forum, which method brings the best results for backing up contacts.
I used to backup using MyPhone Explorer, but ICS does not recognize the program. Now I am restoring backups from TiBu. What method do you guys prefer to restore contacts after flashing a new ROM?
Just export to the SD card -_-

umm why would you NOT backup to google account?
then you dont worry about it.. and tibu wont work between gingerbread to/from ICS or any other major update...
gmail and android allows you to export to csv if you ever needed them for ..lol another phone.
im not sure but i am starting to think that -_- is a polite facepalm... further research necessary.
Super Backup app from the (Market).
Yeah what he said, I just use my Google contacts. You can sort through them at http://contacts.Google.com

Perhaps you did not understand my first post. I am not asking for a method. I already have a preferred method, which is TiBu. Furthermore, I am well aware that TiBu does not work between GB/ICS, which is the primary reason why I am not asking for help on restoring contacts from TiBu. I have my contacts backed up in google, as well as have a csv backup on my phone. I prefer TiBu because I already restore apps with it and I have not experienced any problems whatsoever restoring contacts as well.
The time you spent analyzing be-ock's post as well the reasons I may have to not backup my contacts on google could have been better spent posting your preferred method, like the 2 members that followed your post.
-_-

I'm still not a fan of this fact. I rather liked having them separated so that I could leave business contacts on the phone (actually the SIM, i didn't save any contacts to the phone itself) but ICS killed that. I'm not talking a backup to SIM, I didn't want the business numbers in my google account, period.
As to the question at hand, I leave it to Google and the account I made just for the phone, they already have hundreds of copies of the contacts on multiple servers. Anything else is going to be prone to error, incompatibility, corruption, etc. Also, google does the restoring & updating all on its own, no thought needed.

I have a similar problem. I'm an aircraft mechanic and I travel quite often. There are some numbers that are essential in case I get in a bind. I have taken several steps to ensure that if my captivate gets borked, I can still have some essential numbers at hand. I basically travel with an old Nokia GoPhone with all essential numbers recorded on the phone and SIM card. That way, if my Captivate dies for some reason (like it did when I tried flashing while flying, stupid me), I can still get a hold of some omportant people should I need to.
Personally I create a vcard backup saved to the phone and computer. But i only have that in case Google for some reason doesn't sync the contacts to my phone.
I found that ics is much better at syncing all contacts. I accident imported my vcard backup after adding my Google account and now i have double of every contact.

Hey guys how do you save new contacts on optimus 2x to Google account by default. I must change from phone contact to google acc. each time when saving new contact, is there any option to set google acc. as default for contacts. Thanks.
Hello,
First can you tell witch rom version you are using? Any third party software to manage contacts?
I don't clearly know how to do it but this first info can clearly help with the answer.
Compliments

on cm7 you have to choose every time. On the stock rom would not know.
I use stock 2.3.4 and have to choose every time time.
yeah.. it is kind of annoying, buy still it's better than loosing all your contacts..
On O3D I set google acc. as default in options and never ever lose any contact, but also dont have to choose on adding new contact. Thanks for help anyway, why would it be simple, when it can be annoying and complicated.
All you have to do is sign up for the Google back up when you first load the market. It will auto back up apps and contacts. Very useful for flashing. Its free and when you flash a rom you just log back into the market and hit sync at the last page

I'm running cm7 and I've never had to choose where to save. You just select the option to do it everytime.
