[Q] HELP!!!!

Ok, so I have a rooted Nexus One with cyanogen 6.0rc3 on it. I recently tried to put cyanogen 6.1 on it so I could upgrade to 7.0. Then, I see the common glitch where there is no market so I revert back to my old rom which I made a backup for(using ROM Manager). So here comes the hard part, when it restores my ROM, have no apps, no nothing which I downloaded, and I tried to restore again, because ROM Manager reinstalled, but I didn't get anything. Can some tell me how to get my data and all my stuff back, please?!?!?!?! If I don't get help by the end of the month, my service gets cut off, so I really need help!!!! Please help guys, thanks in advance, you guys are the bomb!!!!

What's that supposed to mean? You lose service because you don't have the data on your phone restored?
Are you using apps2sd?
I feel like you have no chance of restoring anything at the moment though.

If you have a custom recovery, just wipe and start again, or restore your backup... Make sure you have a gapps package that is compatible with your ROM...

All your apps will be in the market under 'my apps' and as long as you have synched with Google servers all your data should be retrieveable by re-synching.

You don't need to go to cm6.1 to get to cm7. Even on 6.1 you need to do a full wipe anyway to eliminate any potential problems.
Also did you happen to use CWM 3.0?

I tried that, too, not all of my apps restored, and my data would be gone on them anyway

[Q] nandroid backup??

can i restore a nandroid backup if i flash some other rom??
app data will also be restored i.e games levels etc..??

Nandroide is a image/snapshot that is stored on your SD card, that you always can flash back to later, after you e.g. have flashed another ROM.

this means i will be back on older rom..for backing data of apps use titanium backup??

There are 2 types of backups.
Nandroid is created using CWM recovery, which is an image file of everything you have got on ur phone. This backup is useful if u flashed another rom and for some reason you want to go back to original/stock rom. This is like recovery disc for ur windows computer, used for to go back to factory settings. Dont ever flash something else on ur phone without creating a nandroid backup. This is also useful in case of warranty repairs.
Second is app and data backup through titanium or such applications. This is more used if you want to backup all the apps u have installed on ur phone, so that for example, i have 200 + apps installed, i flash 3 different roms in 1 week, i dont want to spend time keep installing those apps again and again each time i flash a different rom, i will use titanium to backup all those apps n just restore those apps once i flash a new rom.
Hope this clears any doubts.

What do you mean by "before losing data"? Did you do nandroid? If so, you still have everything on you.

Oh oh... Thats not a good news.
Well, just in case, take a look at this thread... it has got a collection of Factory shipped ROMs, may be your version of IS is one of them and so if you want to go Stock, you can probably get back to Stock without not much of hassle.

Besides, I don't think there are much complications if you don't have Nandroid. Nandroid is basically a tool to go back to stock mostly in case of warranty repairs, but if your phone is not crapping out on you, as long as it works, you don't probably need Stock.

After restore from nandroid, you do not need to restore apps from titanium.
It will keep a snapshot of your current rom, hence include your apps. It didn't include radio though, it is separate entity.
Your backup through titanium is save in sd card though.

I think this answers my question: I backed up my stock ROM before I S-OFF and rooted so, if I needed to go back to stock ROM for say warrenty issues, I should just be able to restore this backup, rather than have to download and flash a stock RUU? This will put me back to S-ON and unrooted? If so, pretty glad I did that

No, if u restore it from nandroid, you dont have to restore any app data. Thats the benefit of nandroid. Its got everything as is including the background, the way you had it set up.

Wait, how did u manage a backup before s-off?
The steps are,
Get s-off
Get root access
Install clockworkmod or any other recovery program
Boot into recovery
Backup ur current rom - aka nandroid
Enjoy flashing - for some reason if flashing goes bad, you will be safe and can restore and bring back ur phone to life with nandroid
To get back s-on for warranty repair, nandroid wont help. There are a couple of threads which explains how to do so. Check the links i have posted in one of my previous comments.

Bloody good point! Getting way too confused with alot of this...need to take a break Don't need to go back to S-ON anyways, but have read around that some people are having problems showing S-ON once they have flashed back to stock RUU.

Where is the thanks-button?
Just to clarify it more in a question.
Nandroid takes an image of your active OS with all the programs/settings/phonebook/calendar/facebookcontactlinks saved into it. So if you restore that image, your phone is back like nothing happened with all your hours of settings and apps included at point of image taking? Not even a factory reset?

Anyways, answer to your question is, yes, it does back up everything as you have set on your phone.
It includes things like your wallpaper, your wireless passwords, your images and settings in camera, your games and game progress data, your contacts, your messages, even your emails, your notes... anything and everything you can think of, which is done by you on your phone, nandroid will create an image of everything as of the moment you create a backup.
For example, if you created a backup on 1st, then your flashed another rom, you didn't like the custom rom you flashed, so now you want to go back to the factory rom, you restore your phone from nandroid on the 10th, once the restoration is finished, you will be same as it is as you were on the 1st when you created a backup.
Hope this clears out any of the doubts.
Nandroid Backup is really powerful.

Thing is, you will never need to go back to S-On until and unless your phone is legitimately broken and you have warranty and needed it fixed.
If everything is running smooth without any hiccups, you are better off with S-Off forever as long as you use your phone.
But, because you are now S-Off, first thing you want to do is to have a nandroid, which is your savior at the end.
So, my 2 cents worth suggestion would be, get S-Off, get root access, install CWM, boot into CWM and create a nandroid. Mount your SD Card, go to /ClockworkMod folder and copy that backup file from your SD Card to somewhere safe, probably on your computer. Once you did this much, do whatever you want to do with your phone. You can flash any ROM you want... Play with it... etc...

boot looping when I update with Viperboy 1.1.0

I am rooted on a Sprint One and had stock HTC. Then downloaded the Viperrom 1.0.4 and had no trouble get it on, did not loose any of my settings or folders. Now when I download and try to run the viper 1.1.0 zip, it does the install and starts up shows my walpaper and icons appropriately, then crashes and constant reboots to the same point. Able to get on to recovery and reinstall the back up i had made with no rpoblems.
What do I need to do? If I wipe, what do i wipe? Have TWRP.
Will I loose all my settings and data?
Please help

Under advanced wipe select the first 4(dalvik,cache,system,data).
Then reflash the Rom.
You will lose settings.

Is there anyway we can save settings and restore them after upgrades?

Htcs built in backup through dropbox works very well. It restores apps, settings, homescreens. About the only two things it doesnt restore are accounts, autorotate and lockscreen password

yes but i also disables google backup

I fond HTCs better than googles. The only thing I manually use google sync for is contacts. And thats just force of habit.

Need to wipe before installing. In TWRP, hit Wipe>Swipe to wipe

I did the same thing as you. Mine got caught in a bootloop, I couldn't get the damn thing to force restart either. The bottom home & back key just kept flashing no matter how long I held it. I had to wait forever for the battery to die. I think something might be wrong with the restart fail safe HTC built in. So I relocked it, flashed back to stock, go to sprint store of course it reboots perfect every time. The people at the store are morons I hate going there. The guy says to me you just hold it down and the restart menu will come up. I'm like if the phone is frozen that doesn't work. None the less I don't expect them to replace something that is working. So I re-unlocked, cleared everything and installed latest build fresh works great haven't had any issue. I didn't back up either so I had to re set everything up which takes forever. I'm not a fan of restoring backups anyway as it can cause issues. I will be doing a nandroid next time and be more careful with dirty flashing. I always dirty flashed on MeanBean on my LTE without issues and Mike made it very clear when dirty update was not advised. In my opinion they shouldn't release a major update that will bootloop a phone over goo manger. It's still my fault but I didn't think twice about it when I tried to update viper. It still pisses me off that I have to fight with it to get the phone to reboot, the entire point of a fail safe is incase something goes wrong. It's the first time I have ever bootlooped a phone.

Thanks all, I am just where I was. so many opinions and would like to have a concensus.

It won't wipe internal unless you specifically check it in advanced. Never wipe internal, but davlic, cache, data and system are fine and constitutes a full wipe..you should always wipe that way when trying different roms or going to a new base. Or use a superwipe script to make things easier.

ive had the same problem, i actually had to use the ruu to get back to stock, unlocked it again s-off rooted and no matter what i do everytime i install any custom rom it goes into bootloop. ive tried every rom on here i cant even get viperrom to fully boot up. looking thru all the forums nobody has a clear answer as to why this is happening.

im stuck in boot loop after the viper rom and i just got it yesterday .. i dont know what to do at this point . when it does boot it ask me for the wifi login and fails says poor connection when its right next to me

After about a minute, it reboots.

[Q] Switching from AOSP ROM (CM11) to Sense 6.0 based ROM

I'm using an HTC One (m7) and I'd like to move from CM11 nightlies to this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502430). I've read somewhere before that there were preliminary steps I need to follow before going from AOSP back to Sense. I've tried to move to a ViperROM before and somehow ended up wiping all data (even recovery) from my phone. I'd like to prevent that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would suggest searching YouTube for QB King77
He has posted many videos that I have personally used to do things like gain s-off, relock boot loader, flash factory RUU back to stock and then the unlock via HTC dev site with links to all you would need. All you need with his videos is a little patience, they are on the money..

Unfortunately I tried to switch the ROM and lost everything...again. I backed up my previous ROM first, but the install completely wiped out my recovery...again. It said the installation was successful. I did everything I feel I should have done. After the install it asked to reboot. When it rebooted, it went into fastboot and I no longer have access to anything but the bootloader. This has happened before so I know how to fix it now, but it's really annoying not knowing what exactly is happening on my phone.

Can I install stock recovery and then try to take a ota to update. Will I loose root and will I loose my rom? Will I be able to reinstall a rom or will I need to reroot?

From my understanding, as long as /system is stock, you can install the stock recovery and then take the OTA. Afterwards, you'll need to re-root your phone. Make a backup of your current setup before you get started. Once you've taken the update and get rooted again, you can always restore your backup.

This one is tricky. I flashed the stock rooted rom from mikmik, I then unrooted and flashed the stock recovery via fast boot. When applying the Ota, it fails because the build.prop is not stock. Comes back with an error like /system/build.prop unexpected.

I just tried it to and did the same exact thing except I had boot loops as we'll.

when I flashed back to the stock recovery to take the recent OTA, I had a reboot bootloop like every 2-3 minutes, I was ready to throw the phone against a wall, then it hit that I read recently someone else had the same issue, and mentioned a factory reset fixing the issue, yup after a factory reset, the reboot bootloop was gone, I just now rerooted and flashed a backup

when I flashed back to the stock recovery to take the recent OTA, I had a reboot bootloop like every 2-3 minutes, I was ready to throw the phone against a wall, then it hit that I read recently someone else had the same issue, and mentioned a factory reset fixing the issue, yup after a factory reset, the reboot bootloop was gone, I just now rerooted and flashed a backup

But after all that we're you able to update the radio and second did it fix the signal issues?

yes, I was able to take the latest OTA, and no, it did not help with my signal at all, my device didn't drop calls or anything, but it has a hard time latching onto lte at times before and after the OTA.......

this might be a really stupid question (and my first post no less), but does performing a factory reset take me back to stock, unrooted form?
currently i am rooted with S-on, TWRP and Chainfire SU.
i followed a youtube video to root and im basically clueless with regards to doing anything more.

no, a factory reset will not unroot you, you need to restore a stock backup, then flash stock recovery in fastboot to unroot while s-on

Thank you. I saved a stock backup (i think) while rooting so ill see what i can do tonight. fastboot is the white background screen that uses volume buttons to select, right?

Hey everyone.
I've spent the better of the last three hour scouring the inter webs, Google, and these forums trying to find the answers to my questions - but to no avail (I've found partial answers, but I am afraid a partial answer could lead to a total brick).
Here we go:
I bought one of the first Sprint HTC One M8's through Amazon. Here are the details:
Model: 831C
Android Version 4.4.2
Software Version 1.12.651.17
Unlocked but S-On (Using TWRP)
Naturally, right out of the box I rooted it. However, I did not save the original ROM.
* I want to restore the phone to its original state so I can accept the OTA update and hopefully address the god-awful cell signal.
I've found a lot of stock recoveries online, but none that match 1.12.651.17.
Do I need to find that specific recovery to flash to my phone? Will another one work (e.g. 1.54.654.13)?
I've never worried about saving my stock recovery in the past (been rooting since the HTC Evo days) but it looks like not doing so finally caught up with me.

PS I did find something 1.12.651.17 related here, but how to flash this to my phone (or whether or not it will brick) is beyond me. I've downloaded all 6 files and am waiting to figure out how the heck to get them to my phone.
