Just helped a buddy root his droid. I don't have much knowledge on this device but i cant seem to get wifi tethering to work. I have tried Barnacle and wifi tether. I think i remember seeing some settings i need to change for Verizon but i can not find them. Any help is appreciated.

Assuming you already toyed with the settings in barnacle, try a different ROM/kernel setup.

Is it possible to tether one G1 (with a data plan) to another G1 (without a data plan) ?
I did search but it's hard finding results with common keywords such as "wifi tether phone to phone" or such.
Thanks,
Rick
I would imagine you could accomplish this with root on the phone with the data plan and have an adhoc wifi app running. Then connect the non-data plan phone via wifi to the data phone and it may work.
you can use the infastructure mode to accomplish this with root on the data phone using the tether binaries (you have to start it manually or manually edit the tiwlan.ini) search a couple of my posts and you will see what you need to change.
neoobs,
Thanks for the direction..
I did..
adb pull /system/etc/wifi/tiwlan.ini c:\AdbWin\tiwlan.ini
but the setting is already..
WiFiAdhoc = 0
Am I missing something?
Rick
First I need to know which version you are isntalling... a link to a thread or even a download. Or if there is a read me let me know that too
I installed Wifi Tether for Root v0.9.5 on my rooted G1, HTC Magic RC33
In one post you stated that WiFiAdhoc need to be set from "1" to "0". My WiFiAdhoc is already set to 0.
My laptop tethers perfectly with my G1, but I would like to allow a second G1 to tether too. I think that the second G1 refuses to see an AdHoc network.
Rick
If I remember correctly you can't use this on the Magic firmware. And apparently I have a special phone that can do the impossible
ok, well.. wanna trade phones?
I see the other thread so I will wait and see what happens with future development.

Haven't tested this on v 0.9.6, but on 0.9.5 wifi teather for root users. I teather to my roommates stock iphone. I know its a little different, but if his iphone can do it, surely our phones can. I'm sorry I cant be more help, just wanted to throw that info out there
Edit: just read the magic part. For reference I'm running jf rc33
as long as the g1 can adhoc i think you can just setup one g1 to tether then connect to it via wifi. this shuld give wifi to anything that has adhoc wifi abilities..right?
Hey all,
My ultimate goal is to take my motorola droid, and connect it wirelessly to my nexus one using wireless tether. I dont have verizon so it'd be sweet to piggy off of my nexus and have virtually two phones.
My problem is my motorola droid, nor my gf's stock evo can see the wireless network I create in wireless tether. However, laptops and both of my roomates iphones can see it.
I also created a wireless network on my droid but then my nexus one cant see that one. Is there a problem connecting two android phones together over wifi? what am I doing wrong that other phones can see it, but not android phones..
Other ways to tether?
Thanks!
The network you're creating is Ad Hoc network, which is different from Access Point network that is provided by WiFi routers. Phones might not be set for recognizing and connecting to such network, at least it looks so from your description.
Understanding that, it leads to another point in my question. Why can iPhones connect to those wireless access points that my android phones create?
It doesn't make sense that you cant connect android to android. There must be a driver or something that I'm missing or some other app I may need to install.
Any other ideas?
Googled some, found official Ad Hoc request thread:

Over 2 years now. There is a way to enable it, but I guess it didn't find its way into custom ROMs yet.

This is the most startling thing to discover about my phone... How can the iPhone trump me on this one and do ad-hoc
Android WiFiTether lets you do tethering over bluetooth as well. Would it be possible to take one android phone with the internet, pair them by bluetooth, and share that way?
I cannot get wifi tethering to work on my Droid 1 when running MIUI, stock froyo, or Cyanogen. I have tried Wireless Tether on all three ROMS, I can connect to the phone, but no Internet data is transferred. I'm currently using MIUI 12.3 and found that it has a built in wifi tether that also fails. Barnacle didn't work either.
From what I can figure out this may be either a kernel issue (I never changed it from stock, but MIUI may have its own?) or a problem with how I achieved root (superoneclick). I appreciate any and all advice! Thanks!
Hi,
I followed orlandoxpolice's instructions for Da_G's gtab 8.9 LTE root at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401100
and I am now rooted. The reason I did this was so that I can use the LTE service from my laptop in those travel situations in which the gtab's browser doesn't work as well as my laptop's would for some websites that I need to use on the road.
However, I can't get tethering to work. Maybe this is a Honeycomb issue? I installed the latest Barnacle, and it grabbed superuser perms and seemed to run perfectly, but I get no Internet access from my laptop when I tether to the gtab, even though I connect to the gtab and get a dhcp ip address with no problem. I also tried Android WiFi Tether at http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ but that produces the same result. Has anyone else gotten this working?
Thanks!
can't say i have tried this, but could it be a driver issue on your laptop? have you tried tethering with your desktop or any other computer?
Hmm, ROM or kernel might not have the necessary bits to route packets for tethering, I made a note to take a look at things next time I get a chance. Still no device though so I'll be doing it in the blind ROM doesn't have android tether app built into settings -> wireless & networks I take it?

We also need to get a Bell dump, WiFi tethering wasn't removed.

Trying to find a way to tether my unrooted VZW Moto X to my nexus 7. Have used pdanet/foxfi in the past on other phones with great success so I figured I'd try. I know WiFi tether isn't supported on KitKat (according to PDAnet) and am having trouble getting the bluetooth tether to work. It shows I'm connected but can't get any data on any app.. Does anyone know if this is not possible with pdanet and kitkat, or am I being a goon... Thanks
Anyone???
