[Q] Is it possible to change bootscreen NOT bootanimation - LG Optimus Black

Hello this is my first post on XDA i was wondering if i could change the stupid LG boot Logo (not bootanimation that is changed already)
I am running Android 2.3.7 CyanogenMod-7-12302011-NIGHTLY-OptimusBlack
Thanks A Lot Already

I think it's unposible, because we need boot in fastboot first

but that LG logo must be somewhere right

Yep, but i don't think it is located in user available ROM memory. I mean, not in a system r/w space we can browse through regular root explorer.
I think i read somewhere in china (huwai may be) device discussion that they made a flashable file that changed boot logo into htc one; but i haven't seen company's boot logo changing in other forums of samsung/lg/moto etc. forums.

[Q] Custom Boot Animation - Droid

Hello, Im new here to the community and I am (of course) loving my rooted, ROM'd Droid. I have been trying custom boot animations, which is quite easy to do. My problem is, I found a ''basic'' bootanimation (here in the Eris section), and decided that I should try to customize it (as it was only text on the boot animation). I edited each .png file, saved, rezipped, and flashed. Now all I get is a black screen before boot.
I tried to change the size (in the desc.txt) but that didnt work either. I was hoping someone could look at it and let me know where I have went wrong. Like I said, all I did was add/move words on the .pngs.
I am including the original boot animation: 'YearoftheDroid.zip' and then the one I edited: 'bootanimation.zip'. Any help would be greatly apprectated, as I want to get rid of the Motorola Logo also.
Thanks for all of your help and this community! (I hope Im asking in the right place)
Oh yeah, the original YearoftheDroid.zip boot animations works fine on my Droid before I edit it.
(Also, is there a program for me to test boot animations on my pc before I try it on the Droid? I did see one post with it, but it was sent via pm, so I could not find a download link.)
The file sizes are way off, is this why? Also, why would the file size change so dramtically if all I am doing is moving text and adding the 'DROID' logo? (I would think that my edited one would be bigger).
Thanks Again!

[Q] Flashing Boot Animation

Hey heres the rundown.
Captivate running Andromeda3 with the Ursa Minor kernel. I just downloaded the new Nexus Prime boot animation from the link below. Flashed it through CWM but now when I boot it just plays the Andromeda boot animation. Am I missing out on something here?
Link to the BA: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/08/download-nexus-prime-boot-animation/
It installed it to the wrong directory.
That script flashed it to /data/local
For our phones bootanimation.zip is installed to /system/media.
Use a root file explorer and paste it in the aforementioned location.

Cool. Thanks for the help. But one more thing, how did you know that? Im asking so in the future I can troubleshoot little problems like this on my own.
The link you gave says where it installs to right in the paragraph...
I know where boot animations go, and that wasn't it.
I mean this in the nicest possible way but please read everything you're about to flash BEFORE you flash it or you could very possibly brick your phone.

The boot animation from the Nexus Prime aka Galaxy Nexus that was teased to us earlier in the week is now available for everyone to play with. The instructions we have are for flashing in Clockwork Recovery, but if you aren’t rooted, you will have to do it the old fashioned way by extracting and moving the bootanimation.zip into /data/local or wherever your particular phone pulls media from.

I read it, I just didnt know that our phones pull media from another folder. Also the way it is worded kind of confused me. I appreciate the warning though. Been on here a little over six months now and havent managed to brick yet because I typically do more reading than posting. Thanks for the help.

Indeed there is, but I have a feeling you are not talking about boot-images, but the startup-graphics?
Then yes and no. To my knowledge you cannot change the first logo, I think the second is possible to change, but not easy, and the third - the boot-animation, is very easy to replace.
If you were in fact talking about boot-images (kernels) the answer is a definite yes, those can easily be replaced by flashing new boot-images with CWM.
Bootanimation changed and want change those 2 images or whatever they are when u start phone before animation..
As far as I can tell, you're stuck with the first LG currently, but the second, blue tinted one can be changed... it's in the boot image.
Ok i want to know how to change that.
Read this:
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Unpack,_Edit,_and_Re-Pack_Boot_Images
It tells you how to edit the boot image, and at the bottom describes the process of changing the logo.

Lollipop boot animation

I may be in the minority but I like the original Kitkat boot animation that carried on to Lollipop 5.01. Also I would like to keep that original boot screen and animation in case something goes wrong and I need to return the phone on the extended warranty I have. Now when I load the custom rooms, I get another boot logo and animation, a new M and colored dots running about the screen instead of the world thing that normally animates. How can I extract the animation sequence and either flash it back with TWRP or manually change it in my phone. Thanks.

After putting it in there and deleting the old bootanimation, making sure it was set for rw-r-r, and booting umpteen times, I have no animation at all now. I can open it up and run the animations inside it, so I know it's good. I did a search, and it's the only bootanimation.zip on my device but it still won't show when I boot. When I start up, all I see is the new "M" with the "by Lenovo" under the "M" and no animations. I don't know where that new "M" is coming from but it's not in the system/media directory.
I thought you are on stock rom but you flashed different bootanimation and you want old one.
I think video bootanimation works only on stock or the stock based rom. On which ROM you are ?
I am not sure , but I think that CM based rom dont support video mp4 bootanimations.
I read somewhere that some changes in the system / bin /bootanimation can help but I did not try.
Anyway if it is for waranty purposes as you said you can allways flash stock rom and you will have stock bootanimation.
But unlocked bootloader is generally no waranty

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm using Shawn's Titan Prime and his animation is a series of "png" files that I would have known if I'd looked at it.. I'll go back to the Rom's original one now. Thanks for the help.
You can try with instructions on this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-university/guide-set-video-bootanimationtesters-t2915445
But backup first your original bootanimation binaries from system/bin and bootanimation zip from system/media.
Many people who have tried say it works.

Any custom boot animations / boot images available for v30

Looked but didn't see anything in the appropriate places for any boot images or boot animation compatibility. Anyone have any suggestions and/or method suggestions for creating and applying new looks?

Doesn't substratum do custom boot animations? I'm pretty certain it does although I've only used that on my Nexus 6p. I'll be trying out substratum on my V30 here soon. So I can let ya know.

Tried a substratum boot animation from the domination app. But nothing happened as far as I saw. Same lg image followed by Verizon animation. Hadn't used a oms substratum boot image so I could have done something wrong. But I was pretty sure it was select and ..reboot lol.
I've been using an app from the play store called Boot Animations for Superuser on my H932 running the Dirty Unicorns Pie ROM and it works fine.

Yes that's the one with the reviews I was referring. Only review for my device in review option is a 1 star about having to get a new device after lol. Sheesh
I'm on VS996 stock rom btw
Also its possibile to delete bootloading on/off animation ZIP file from media folder to get a stock android animation ( i do it on any roms also on stock LG rom)
Well for Bootanimations all you have to do is scour XDA for Bootanimations with the same display size in mind and manually replace them with a Root/File Manager.

@runningnak3d has answered this before, and I always mess up repeating what he said -- but it's basically you can brick your phone if you don't know exactly what/where you are replacing. On North America V30, people have gotten rid of the annoying unlocked bootloader animation (which is really just a "picture" -- so it's a boot logo) by REPLACING the entire partition with Verizon VS996 "Resources" and Resources_bak" -- which gives you a few seconds of black. But to actually flash a NEW boot logo (something of your own choice) is entirely different and harder.
And @runningnak3d can clarify/correct anything I just said.
Ah, found it:

If you want to figure out the format of the raw_resources partition, that is where all the images are stored. It is possible to change them, but if you mess up, then your phone is a brick since abl will not load -- which is why the risk just wasn't worth it for me.
They are RLE so they have no header. There is an index that gives the name and offset for the location of the image, but not the size (either they are all the same size, or the size is stored somewhere else).

On the VS996 flash zip I no longer have the bootloader warning splash but I do still have the v30 boot logo instead of the v30+. Kinda like to have the v30+ one from the US998U/LS998.
As far as the animations go the Verizon has a boot animation (2part) bootanimation_decrypting (2part) and shutdown animation all in the system/bin/media folder.
Just recently updated the G7 on the Verizon OTA 10f and now it uses the same decrypting animation at boot.
I'll check out that link, I don't have a burning desire for the boot logo but I backed up my boot animation and may do it the old fashioned adb way in recovery. If it goes well I may change the shutdown animation as well.

Wait so does this risk just pertain to the unlocked bootloader warning or for the power on and off animations as well? Cause before on my V20 all I had to do was basically replace the boot animation and shut down animation zips or rename them to .bak so they don't load at all. So as long as I don't mess with the one labeled decrypting then there shouldn't be a risk right?

I presume it pertains to attempting to edit the boot logo (boot splash image) as it is not just a static image file in the system subdirectories.

That review that you and I saw, just forget it. The person did something totally different.
I first tried that app on my LG V20 stock ROM. I then deleted boot animation zip and shut down boot animation zip.
My LG V20 was fine.
I then installed it on my LG V30 since I was comfortable at this point. It works fine. I backed up the Zips. Deleted the boot animation zips from root - system - media. Stock boot animation is very very plain.
So I used that app I linked. There is no shut down boot animation zip. Which semi sucks. I deleted it since I HATE the T-Mobile Logo.
That app is fine though.

I downloaded it and looked at the zip it created. It sets the right permissions and placed the animation in the right location. Easy enough to take that zip and swap in a shutdown animation file and rename the permission setting line in the updater script to make one for shutdown animation. I was sitting here over breakfast thinking about swapping the two out on my device. Just for all that work I may as well just use the terminal in twrp and make the chmod changes myself.
And that bhootie site......sheeeeesh that's a lot of porn, and it's shutting down soon as well. I have no idea why ?
If anyone likes Superman, here is gif animations.

FYI, you don't need to set permissions if using
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.solidexplorer2
Just copy over the files and it will auto set permissions for you. No need to reboot in less you want to see how it looks of course.

I see my shutdown boot animation is an LG logo that appears like a gif. I will try the recommendations in here.

Can't find Bhootie in the play store
One of the interesting things I found is that this phone boots so quickly. I ramped up the frame rate on my phone to decrease the start time. The Verizon boot animation is looong.
I was going to change the shutdown animation too to a different LG but I realized I was just trying to be different (modding addiction) and when I'm shutting the phone (which is never) I don't pay it any attention.
