I tried flashing ICS_4.0.3_r1-RC1.0.1-i897.zip to my Captivate, now my captivate won't go past the AT&T screen.
I was on CM7.1 before I attempted to flash. From what I understand, if I can get into Recovery mod I can flash CM7 to my phone and start this entire process over again. However, I downloaded ADB and now I'm not sure what to do to fix this. I have my phone in Download mode and it's connected to my laptop.
I don't think ADB recognizes my phone. What should I do?

I am using Ubuntu 11.04, 64 bit - if that matters.
Adb doesn't work in download mode
Flash stock. Then follow install instructions to flash any ROM you want.
Where can I get the stock roms? I just downloaded one from this thread but all I got was a rar file with an exe file inside.
I need something I can load up from Heimdall. I'll try running the exe file through WINE but I don't think it will work.
Edit: Confirmed, that does not work in Wine.
Edit2: Trying this now.
Hit the sig link below. Heimdall Stock KB2. After it's downloaded, right click/permissions/Mark as executable. Then just open with java.
Thanks for the tip mrhaley30705. However, I fixed it before I saw your link. I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17050435
Which gave me SGH-i897-UCKH3-One-Click.jar. This put my phone on 2.3.4. Problem solved as I'm no longer bricked.
Glad you got it going.

It looks like the computer isn't recognizing the kindle at all.
Is there any way that adb isn't enabled in CM 11 (I can't find the option anywhere)? Or do I need to associate the device with adb somehow?
Thanks for any help

ok well um incase you didnt already do this, to turn on adb its in settings>developer options, but to get the developer options to show up you need to tap on the build number around 10 times in the about tablet area of settings. Once you do this you can enable adb, though i will say that is odd i figured that a lab126 device would atleast showup with lsusb even if adb is disabled for the mtp device. Try plugging the device in and running a dmesg and see if its even recognizing it as plugged in there.

If there's a device connected, you will see it, you can try it both in windows and linux (I guess xD)
lsusb is a linux command, it shows what devices are connected via usb.

It should work with Mint 17.3 but I'm on Mint 18.
Have you done
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
I'm assuming your on Ubuntu or at least a debian based build
Of course. LoL
I have used these two pc's to flash many Android devices.
I have every adb/fastboot/android package from synaptic installed, as well as android and Java sdks and other things from 3rd party ppa's.
I'm backing up files now, and will install Linux Mint 18 from scratch after the file copy (203GB including virtual machines) is complete.
detects fine in Linux Mint 18.
rooted, twrp'd, debloated, BL unlocked now.

I know it sounds crazy, but you may need to add udev rules. Atleast its worth trying. Or update to a newer version of ubuntu/mint. Also, I would not recommend using adb/fastboot from the ubuntu repos because they never kept up to date. you need to use the latest versions from the actual SDK.

I wiped my laptop and installed Linux Mint 18 fresh. I installed the advice and fastboot packages from synaptic and it works great.
I was running 4.2 kernel on Mint 17, but Mint 18 is 4.4 kernel. I have no idea if that made any difference though.

sorry for the rez. same issue, found this topic and it helped. running debian jessie, adb installed and fastboot.
i enabled debian unstable repo and upgraded from the stable version of adb and fastboot, had to add an ssl lib but that was all.
phone detected on 5.1.1.r29-2
android-tools-adb
android-tools-fastboot
i am surprised there are no intermediary versions in jessie-backports though.
stable was 4.2.2+git20130529-5.1
