CM7 driving me insane.. int/ext SD storage. - LG Optimus 2x

My external USB storage mode does not work for whatever reason, I have no idea why, it works on stock rom, it worked briefly on CM7...
I have no way to put files on External SD, I guess I could use a MicroSD to USB adapter but that just seems unnecessary. Previously on stock ROM when I used Software Data Cable or other FTP softwares I could just navigate to /External SD and all my files would be there, CM7 seems to do some annoying sort of merging, where External SD is showing as empty despite having files...
Any ideas?
Edit: Okay I changed CM7 settings to use External SD. This has fixed the running out of int SD issue and now I can more easily edit the more important files with the USB-SD. USB storage still doesn't work though.

If you don't have the "External SD" symlink anymore you could navigate to the "emmc" folder with a file manager on your phone which will be the second sd.
The mounting problem sounds like a USB driver problem.
Uninstall all LG parts from your PC, restart, reinstall the newest drivers and use another USB port to connect the device.
Internal & external SD should popup as two different drives when you plug it in.

CM7 is rubbish i used that for all of about 1 hour and got sick of the rubbish ideas that were stuck in it, its certainly not as smooth as the cm lovers would have you believe.
If i were you id stick to a custom stock rom.

Well I find cm7 better than Topogigi if that's anything to to by? Faster with better battery life.

Can't comment on battery life but in case you havnt noticed cm doesn't use the lg launcher it uses adw so its bound to be quicker. Compare them launcher to launcher and i garentee they are exactly the same.

Got almost the same problem earlier today (not with CM though).
A restart solved that problem (for now). Have you tried that?

Has there been any kind of notification telling you that your SD is corrupt?
Can you see your SD card in a file manager?
Do you even have an SD card? CM does the internal storage differently.

I'm surprised that Cyanogenmod install can be done without a physical external SD card.
It's mandatory to have an external SDcard to use Cynogenmod, even if your internal SDcard is empty.
There are complicated things to do as mentionned above to switch internal and external mounting points for Cyanogen but I can guess this can be tricky for someone not used to those things....
So:
- buy a sdcard, even a small one, internal sdcard still can be used for multimedia files and so on, and is mounted as /mnt/emmc (grab Astro File manager for exemple to see it) and is concerned by media scanning.
- flash back stock firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127849) if you didn't made a Nandroid backup before flashing CMod.
- flash another optimized Froyo rom (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127849 there are some)
- Didn't try Paul Modaco's Gr2, based on official Lg leak 2.3.4, perhaps its mouting points are more conventionnal; but Gr1 pre-baked didn't went good for me as there were no SIM card detection (probably missing some APN related files or so...) so I jumped to CyanogenMod Nightly.
I just bought an O2x with CM7 RC1 already installed. The camera doesn't work (Please insert an SD card before using the camera) and my computer doesn't find the phone when i connect the USB cable(it says it's charging but nothing happens on the phone or the PC). I tried installing LG Pc Suite and the official software on the LG site(mobile updater) and the USB driver seems to be installed but nothing happens when i connect the phone.
What should i do? Should i flash a newer CM7 nightly or a stock firmware? (i have literally no idea how to do that, i'm going to have to read some tutorials). Can i do that if i can't connect the phone via the USB cable? Is there another way?
Yeah flash a newer version, RC1 is quite dated. In the new nightlies you can make internal storage replace the SD card.
You can update the drivers with the LG Mobile Support Tool, PC Suite isn't compatible with CM7.
I installed LG Mobile Support Tool, still nothing. The battery is "Charging" but nothing else happens on the phone/pc. Can i flash a newer version if i can't use the usb to connect to the phone?
Edit: The phone has ROM Manager 4.3.2.3 installed and when i start it: "The SD Card needs to be mounted to use ROM Manager."
I suspect you don't have an SD card, only internal storage. You can't use ROM Manager with that on RC1.
Try the drivers here: http://android.modaco.com/topic/335...elease-103521-20110725/page__view__getnewpost
No, i don't have external SD card. The phone already had CM7 when i bought it. So i just have to download those 3 files and follow the tutorial?
I also found this tutorial and it has that AP BIN thing in plus. Which one to follow? I would be happy to install stock froyo if everything works on it.
Which one to follow depends on what you want for your phone. Personally I'd use CM7.
Ok , i'm gonna go with CM7. If i follow that tutorial(the one you posted) what exactly i'm gonna have on my phone? What does it do? Don't i have to install a newer CM7 nightly build?
This tutorial doesn't say what to put in the AP Bin box, i just leave it blank?
If you go with CM7 then you have to install via recovery, not Smartflash, completely different process.
Download the newest version from here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=p990
Save to your phones internal SD card
Update recovery (unless already on 4.0.0.9 or higher)
Reboot to recovery (can use ROM Manager for that)
Install zip from SD card
Choose zip
Select the CM zip and pick yes
Reboot
In the CyanognenMod settings, in the top option (i foget what it is now) tick 'use internal storage'
Reboot again and you're away
"Save to your phones internal SD card" How am i gonna do that? I can't use usb to connect the phone.
Oh, have you not sorted that yet? Bugger.
Try running mount -t auto /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /sdcard from the terminal, with any luck this will make your internal SD /sdcard and you should be able to download CM via the phone. You can also use ROM Manager to install it then as well.

Internal Storage not Recognized after flashing CM7.1

Hi Guys, just flashed my O2X with CM7 and it worked fine but for some reason its not detecting the internal storage. What happened is that I followed the instructions, saved the zip on my external sd card and then flashed it. Did I do something wrong?
Heyy could you say what CM7 version you are using? Plus it sounds like you did everything fine.

Nope, you did it right.
Sounds like you haven't used CM7 before, it's easy to think the internal SD is gone, but it isn't. CM7 by default mounts the external SD-card as /sdcard, where your internal card used to be mounted.
The internal card is at /mnt/emmc.
There is an option in the settings somewhere where you can switch them around (don't have CM7 installed at the moment, but just search in the CM7 Nightlies thread and you'll find lots of info about it.)

I think you are wrong, i am on CM7.1 and by default my internal sd card was in mnt/sdcard and external is mnt/emmc. Now I use FadeFX 1.6 update, which changes this to internal sdcard - mnt/sdcard and external sdcard to mnt/sdcardexternal_sd as it is on samsung ROMs..... (for this you need to check this feature in settings you mentioned) ....

Ok, they may have switched the defaults around since the last time I tried it. Doesn't take away from the main point of the post though. Mount points are different in CM7 from what people are used to, and confusing if you don't know about it.
But only external sd is different... internal it is the same, isn't it ???

No, I was right. (Just installed the latest nightly)
External card mounted as /mnt/sdcard, also reachable from a symbolic link /sdcard.
Internal card mounted as /mnt/emmc.
default install.
Because This feature was introduced from nightly #148 or something .... And he installed CM7.1 wich is nightly #144 I am on this too, so I know how it was after installation.

Nonsense. It's been like that since nightly #1. There were however KANGs floating around which switched mountpoints, you may have used one of those.
Thanks for the info guys...yes this is my first custom ROM and my first CM so sorry for being noob LOL
For some reason its now working. What I did was rebooted my phone, removed the external SD, and it somehow assigned sdcard for internal storage. Rebooted the phone and put back the external SD, and its now emmc...weird but it works now. I just have to move my apps all over the place

Onecosmics ICS port RC3.1 mass storage problem

As the title says, I have problem with my SGS GT-I9000 with transferring files to it.
Now, from beginning:
-my Pc: windows xp sp3
-my smartphone: SGS GT I9000
Onecosmics ICS port RC3.1 flashed with CWM 5
and with Pauls newest kernel ([Kernel]-GT-i9000_Galaxy_S-4.0.3.257134.zip) also flasheed through CWM
..I found few "bugs" in this port (no Facebook sync possibility, with contacts etc., compass seems to show incorrect position) but the main one and very fundamental is with mass storage mode. When I connect my phone to PC, it prompts me an option to connect my phone as mass storage like it did on Gingerbread 2.3.x ..when I successfully enable it, I can see through all folders and subfolders on my internal sd (16GB) and external sd (microSD 16GB) but when copy/paste for example some folder with a movie in it from my PC to either internal or external SD it shows me very slow download progress and a bit later on my PC error pops up, saying it can´t find specified folder or whatsoever and my phone freezes, so I have to hold power button for 8sec to restart it again.
What is interesting, when I boot my phone in CWM, and mount my SD to PC ..I can easily transfer files (eg. 4.6GB copied in 20min) ...for my external SD, I would have to take her out of my phone and place her into USB adapter to transfer files (and put it back in my phone again). This is very frustrating because I like this port very much, it´s fast and you get all the OC/UV LiveOC control, just perfect ..if I could only fix this.. If anyone can help I would be grateful.
Can anyone help?? please
..also, I found out that I can´t copy files in between internal and external sd card.
If I don´t solve this problem I´m afraid I´ll have to go back to Gingerbread until better and stable version comes out ..and I like ICS so much.

Thank you for your advice but I couldn´t wait and flashed back to gingerbread...until more similar (by some basic functions) version of ICS port comes out I´ll be on "old" GB ...
For example, I can watch movie (size 2.6GB) mkv, avi, mp4 ..where on ICS I can watch only mp4..
..and for mass storage I´ve read somewhere that even original Galaxy Nexus with ICS has some problems connecting with PC
Only thing I´m sorry now is because with ICS I could play FPS game with full graphics .. maybe I need to find some custom or stock (preferable) rom with kernel that supports LiveOC and use of NSTools .. ?

That's weird. I've been using my phone to watch movies a lot lately and it's been working great, subtitles and all (with bsplayer). My movies are .avi too. Gives an error doing it by hardware (think only diceplayer does this properly?) but it automatically changes for software rendering mode and works smoothly, no lags, nothing.
Using TeamICS RC3.1 with their own latest kernel and everything works as supposed to. Also, never had a problem copying from the internal to externalSD or the other way around... it is a bit slow, however, to do it from a computer with the usb cable (around 1mb/s) doesn't matter if it's to the internal or external, but i can live with that. I just remove and connect the card to the computer directly if i'm in a hurry.
However, if you're into GB again, i'd recommend you to try mintberry MIUI. Was the most complete rom i've ever used, used it for quite a while and have NOTHING bad to say about it, quite the opposite. And i use my phone A LOT.

I´ve read somewhere that you have to install galaxy nexus drivers on to your pc??
Is that correct? ..
damn, I don´t know what to do??
I WANT ICS but with this problem it´s hard to keep it on daily usage base...
if there is only a kernel (custom) that you can flash onto your stock gingerbread but that includes things like this:
-Voodoo sound
-Live OC, or at least OC/UV above 1.3GHz that is stable
..and I would be happy with GB.
Same here
I have the same problem, also with Onecosmics ICS port RC3.1.
Kernel 3.08-NEO-3.0-galaxys+telus-257114-g5c75537 (the default)
In my case, if I remove the external SD everything work fine, I can transfer files from mi PC to the internal SD (slow, but this is a Known bug). The problems come when I have the external SD (SanDisk 16Gb class 4) inside the phone.
When I mount the device in the Pc and try to access or copy anything in the internal or external SD it just freezes and I have to turn off the phone. It also freezes while unmounting the SD cards.
The external SD connected with a card reader works Ok in the PC and I can transfer and read files with no problem so I tried coping some pictures and when I placed back the SD card in the phone I could see the picture
copying files between internal and external sd also works fine in my device.
I though It might be that the external SD was broke but after I tried using it with a card reader and works OK I have no clue.
I think I'm going to try install a stock gingerbread and star all over again.

That is solved in RC4 (pulled one) ..but it had some other bugs..
I´ve flashed a couple hours ago Teamhackungs ICS build 15 with Devil kernel v.14.2 ...and so far it´s very good, OCed to 1.4GHz..didn´t found any problems that would bug me..except for sending text messages (I was unable to send SMS) ..and so I´ve instaled GoSMS from market and in settings I wrote customized SMSC number -->problem solved.
-no mass storage transfer files problem (its very fast) ..also you can have mounted external SD too..
-flash in browser works
-I´ve gave up from facebook on my device because it uses up to 60MB of RAM (that´s why I use it in browser)
I started from 0.
First i went back to the stock 2.3.6 version, both external and internal SD works perfect.
After that, i flashed to a new kernel "hardcore's kernel with the ClockworkMod Recovery" following the cyanogenmod wiki
With the CW I installed the RC 4.1.
After that, I still have the same problems. I realised that I have no problem listening music from the external SD or transferring files between internal and external SD with the phone, my problem is always mounting the phone in the PC that crashes after a couple of minutes, no mater if is in Windows, OS X or Linux.
I'm going to install now the RC 4.2 but apparently the SD problems were fixed with an older release so I don't know what else to try.

[Q] CM9/Ics USB storage help

I just updated to alpha 6, and im having a problem with my internal storage. When I plug my phone up to my computer only the external sd card shows up, but when not hooked up, all my apps have no problem accessing my internal sd card.
I've already tried the wipe/factory reset as said in the development form but that didn't fix anything
Thanks!

Hashcode,
I remember reading about this when ICS AOSP was first being compiled, and that this was a design change in order to increase security of the devices. I saw a Galaxy Nexus for the first time yesterday and when I plugged it into my machine I thought it was using MTP to transfer files. Has anybody else out there in the porting community been able to allow USB mass storage yet for the internal memory or maybe that's just a feature that's been permanently disabled by Google?

[Q] After upgrading to CM10 "emmc" changed to "extSdCard" and related problems

[Q] After upgrading to CM10 "emmc" changed to "extSdCard" and related problems
Hi,
I've recently updated my GNote (GT-7000) from CM9 to CM10, and looks like with CM10 the external sd card previously mouted as "emmc" has become "extSdCard".
Since then some of the apps (such as Apollo) have trouble seeing media files, others can't see the sd card at all, and when connecting to the desktop the drive which normally shows the content of the external sd card, only shows a couple of folders of it rather than the whole content as it used to do before (when using CM9 and previous roms I had).
Looked around for possible causes, but didn't find much. Someone mentioned that rommanager might have placed ".nomedia" files on the root of the internal or external sd card causing the problem, but that's not my case. Tried also doing a full wipe and reinstall of CM10, no joy.
Any idea?
Thanks!
- Adriano
That's the standard mount points for cm10 there are apps that will remount the sd and external sd in mnt as on stock roms. I had a quick look but couldn't find them, but I'm sure someone else will be able to find them.

Thank you for the suggestions -- I tried a clean install as well, but even the builtin apps (Apollo) still had troubles accessing the external sd card (not seeing any of the mp3s I had there). I have now resolved for restoring a CM9 backup I took before upgrading to 10... and everything is working as it used to.
Not sure why I ran into these issues which no one else seems having encountered so far.

Download ICS SD Binder. Check all 3 options and reboot. The path should be mnt/extSdCard (i think default is odb or so, make sure you change it) . It worked for me and so I'm trying to answer everyone with this problem. Give me feedback soon. And thanks button if I heped.

It didn't -- I don't need to have /emmc bound to /sdcard/external_sd as it was in GB. With CM9 everything for me works just fine with /emmc.
I tried the latest CM10 nightly, and using ICS SD Binder didn't change things. In the latest CM10 now there is also another mountpoint, called /storage/ and underneath sdcard0 and sdcard1 pointing to the internal and external storages respectively. In addition to /sdcard/ and extSDCard. Every few builds there seem to be some new change related to the storage's mount point. Going to wait another while before doing other attempts.
- Adriano
Any update on this question?
seems these are the new mount points even on the New JB roms from samsung
Somehow in some late November nightly, after flashing it, the files on my Internal SD were detected properly and it has all been working properly since. touchwood!
