Anyone knows if there is a way for usb charging yet for the 8.9 LTE? Something like this (see link below) available for the 10.1 sister?

This is a script I put together to use in conjunction with RogerPodacter's MOD for minimum backlight brightness from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245332
1. You must first be running one of these 3 ROMs
-Cyanogen PreBeta 3, 4, or Beta (the PreBeta 4 frameworks work on CM7 Beta)
-HomeBase
-4.5.91 Stock (I have not tested the stock rom, if it supports init.d then it will work)
2. Flash one of the framwork.zip that corresponds with the ROM you are running from the thread linked at the top of this post then reboot.
3. Download the file using your computer, then copy it over to your phone.
4. Using RootExplorer or some other root filemanager, copy and paste the file into system/etc/init.d folder. Set the permissions, reboot and your done. This sets the minimum brightness to
Code:
echo 17 05 > registers
You can change this by editing the script with the built in text editor in RootExplorer.
If you do not know how to set the permissions in RootExplorer, using terminal run these commands:
Code:
su
chmod 0777 /system/etc/init.d/97minbacklight
Directions to install script from your computer:
Code:
adb push 97minbacklight /system/etc/init.d/
Set permissions
Code:
adb shell chmod 0777 /system/etc/init.d/97minbacklight
Reboot
As I said before, I have tested this on HomeBase and CM7. Not stock!
Link to script: (download using your computer, right click and select Save Link As...)

this lowers the voltage to your backlight, allowing you to make the screen a lot darker.

So even though cm7 let's you set your brightness at "1" which is barely anything this makes it more dim? I don't think I'd be able to see it if it got any more dim even in pitch black.

I tested it on HomeBase 3.1 DeBlur. Try using root explorer and creating the init.d folder in system/etc/ then copy and paste the 97minbacklight inside.

I am currently running CM7 and using this setting it is darker, but just enough to make the phone the dimmest it can be without loosing visuals. Before using this script setting, the brightness in CM7, to me, never went below the default experienced in all the other ROMs including stock.
Thanks for this... 02 was a little too dark.. the 05 is perfect, and I like the fact that it can easily be edited!

did you try editing the brightness levels in CM settings to put the lower level at '2'? 2 is the lowest, but by default it is set to 20.

ICS keyboard installation
1. download this file
2. put .apk on sdcard
3. use root explorer to move .apk to the /system/app folder, dont forget to click the "Mount R/W" button at the top right corner while in the /system/app folder or it may not let you move the .apk or set permissions if you dont.
4. long press on apk once moved, select "Permissions" check the top box under "read" and the top box under "write" leave the others how they were. (LOOK BELLOW)
5. reboot phone and tada!
THIS IS HOW THE PERMISSIONS SHOULD LOOK THE "X" MEANING A CHECK MARK.
R..W..E
X..X..X
X..X..X
X......X
R = READ
W = WRITE
E = EXECUTE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a very very simple installation, for thoughs of you that arnt getting it to work i really dont know what else to tell you the link above for the .apk does work i have downloaded it and followed my directions written here to a T and it installed everytime. Once again this WILL NOT work for MIUI Roms.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*EDIT*
changed the download host to megaupload, all the problems should be fixed now!
*EDIT # 2*
im pretty sure this does not work on MIUI. i just recently switched over to MIUI and noticed it will not work. I have tested it on cyanogen based roms like NSCollab and Cyan7 and it works great.
same as below

i wouldn't see why it wouldn't work as long as your phone is running gingerbread, all of the boxes should be checked but the last box under write, all the special permission boxes should all be unchecked.

Was playing around in ROM toolbox and found a theme manager area with all kinds of goodies. There are different animation packs that cab be installed directly from the app. I found one that works great with this phone (some of them make the status bar fc). It's called psynshift. The animations are butter smooth and look great. Made my phone transitions look awesome!
Anyways, check it out if your interested. Naturally, no credit to me, all goes to the devs.
Have fun!

You can get some of them from the free version. The psyntist animations are available on the free version.
Make sure you back up the stock animations first because some them cause the status bar to fc

There's no need to find the files and back them up on your phone. When you go to install one of the themes, it asks you to back up your current one. Just make sure you tap yes when it asks you to backup

He said some of them cause your Status Bar to FC so the one you have makes yours FC. Just keep trying other ones and see which ones work and don't.

I too have been having FC issues with Titanium Backup, and ROM Toolbox. I cannot get Theme to open so cannot do restore of original theme, I'm doing a complete CWM ROM install and restoring data now!
So I want to change my statusbar to the classic style. (The white version from 2.2 and back) So I was wondering if there is a way to do this. I have a rooted samsung exhibit 2 4g running Rebel Rom 2.1. Any help appreciated
Ok.
yes there is. first grab the statusbar.apk from somewhere (anywhere). then replace the current statusbar.apk with the new one. reboot after. note that it may not work depending on screen size. you may status-brick your phone. (if you know what i mean)
Sent From The Phone Of Gamers
I'm a little new to this. So where in root explorer would that apk be? And where would I find this apk and would it automatically change to the classic version after I replace the old one?
Sent from my SGH-T679 using XDA
goto /system/apps (different on nearly every phone) and then replace. the status bar will be missing at first so do a reboot. if you cant find the statusbar.apk file then there is an explorer out there (root) that allows you to search for it. im not sure if root ex has it but try anyway. remember to find one designed for your device. (or one which screen size matches) or you could status-brick your phone. as always something could go wrong if you play about with it so i take no responsibility and assure you if you follow all instructions...both instructions (XD) correctly then you should have what you want.

There's a Retro Android theme for CM7 somewhere. That'll have all the icons to make then hopefully you/someone can help create the theme.

Thank you
I have that apk. So what your saying is that I need to find someone who can use this apk to make a status bar apk out of it? Could I replace the current status bar apk with the Retro Droid apk?

Yes. Just find the right file.

But since its just a theme wouldn't it not be considered part of the system UI?

Depends on the file your replacing ....
I'm gonna try to make the GB statusbar froyo. Tell you how it went

Sent from my SGH-T679 using XDA
system ui is only icons and out line. example: hold power to get a menu. the icons will be different and maybe the outline a different colour. thats it. the icons also involve check boxes and things. not settings though.
Sent From The Phone Of Gamers
OK, well the forum for rebel rom 2.1 said that systemui.apk is the status bar.apk for that rom. So if I delete systemui.apk and replace it with retrodroid.apk. will I get my desired goal?

Why not just try UOT Kitchen?
NO need for USB Cables anymore to transfer files From PC to ANDROID Devices and vice versa.
Had seen this Procedure on some tech site (Sorry but i dont remember the name) but couldn't follow it. Finally tried it myself and here is the procedure:
Requirements
ES FILE EXPLORER
Wi-Fi Hotspot (with or without internet)
Procedure
Connect Phone and Pc to the Same Wi-Fi network.
Open ES File Explorer > Press options > Side bar appears.
Choose TOOLS > REMOTE MANAGER > TURN ON
A link like 190.000.0.0:1234 is shown. Copy it somewhere.
Options > In side bar choose NETWORK > Select FTP.
Select "+NEW" from bottom bar > FTP
In "Port" Type the Link leaving the last 4 digits and colon. Like this "ftp://190.000.0.0"
In "Port" type the last 4 digits only > Check ANONYMOUS box > Ok
Open any Folder in your Desktop and type in the FULL LINK in the Address bar. Like this "ftp://190.000.0.0:1234"
Congrats, thefolder which appears is your Sd-Card.
Now you can Copy Paste whatever you want to your Sd-Card.
Note
You can also use another Android device as Hotspot
Internet connection is NOT needed
File transfer may take time depending on network speed
This procedure needs to be followed only once. Next time only switching on the REMOTE SETTINGS will do
Don't Say Thanx use the Button Below
Nice thread. Could be handy to people that have damaged their USB slot.
