Question about swype on samsung phones? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently use a samsung galaxy 3. And I soon plan take the plunge again (although i almost gave up after 3 faulty notes). I used to use swype in my galaxy 3 which came preinstalled with android 2.1. But when i upgraded it with 2.2 (official firmware), swype stopped working. It always shows error that this software has been configured for some other device.............
Neither i can uninstall it nor can i update w/o rooting.
So i wanted to ask when gnote is updated to 4.0, could the same thing happen with note?
Sent from my GT-I5801 using XDA App

There has been lots of news that Swype isn't compatible with ICS yet. They tweeted that themselves, but said they're working on it. With that said, supposedly there's already an unofficial workaround for getting it installed and working on the galaxy nexus, ICS, so hopefully we won't have to wait long for it once ICS hits our Notes.

Att will they update froyo to 2.3

Im on a kb2 froyo bought from att are they going to release a GB update or did the S II release kill the initiative
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
No one really knows. But Samsung has 2 version of GB that they have been working with. Nothing to do but wait. FYI ATT doesn't have to release it, samsung could release on their site (its a possibility)
In case you guys didn't see this, it's the official announcement from ATT that GB is indeed coming to Captivate. We just don't know exactly when...

Yea but took how long for froyo? And with new devices like Galaxy S2 Galaxy Note, so on and forth captivate isnt high on their list.
Is it possible to go into the att store and get the update
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well, to my understanding, the thread was about IF they were releasing GB. We know that they are. And, yes, I too agree that they GSII is a priority for the company. But I am sure there is some group of people at Samsung and ATT that have the design and release of GB for Captivate a priority. The reason we won't get it for a while (I believe) is because they want us to go buy the new phones instead of getting free updates now.
Froyo took a long time, indeed. But again, I believe that OS upgrades are released at strategic times, not necessarily when they are ready.
I believe I read that Samsung said it will deliver the newest android os for 18 months after devices are sold. So yes they (samsung) will be giving us gingerbread. I would THINK it will be AFTER other phones like the SGS2 are available for a bit. So that also should mean that the SGS2 at least will also see IceCream Sandwich soon enough. Whether the Captivate gets icecream sandwich officially should be the bigger question. I know I read this somewhere on the net that Samsung said this is how they would be doing it from now on, they are trying to keep people happier in the future rather than the bad Rep they got over the froyo fiasco with our devices. I am sure if you did a search on the net you should be able to find those articles somewhere.

Will SGS get ICS official?

What are your thoughts? Is it possible? I think the hardware is capable of handling ICS, and I would love to have GPU-acceleration. I knows in some unofficial way there will be ICS(CM7 for example) but if Samsung decides to release it official then it show that they still care.
I think yes,we will be getting ICS.But we will have to wait few months after google offcially releases ICS

Considering the sgs2 is already out and quite successful, I personally doubt the sgs1 will get ICS from Samsung.
Of course getting ICS ROMs from XDA devs is another thing completely, and is pretty well certain.

Maybe thats what they are working on and why we have nothing new since JVR?
from what ive know samsung was undecided if sgs1 hardware is enought for ics just few months ago,
but at the same time if it would be ok they wanted ics on sgs1
we saw screenies from first alfa compiles for nexuss that is basicly sgs1 with nfc and flashlight so i hope that it is only a matter of time that they will start working (or already started) on a sgs1 version
will be the same as with ginger, first hopefully very early leak (as with jv1)
then months of developing with leaks here and there to forums to iron bugs in mass testing
and after a half of year first pushes (so probaby first leak ~january and around may july first official ones)
sure the process will go faster fo new nexusprime and sgs2 as those are the main devices now
but where to iron most bugs like on a well known device (i hope) hhe
I think no u.u maybe the galaxy s2
From my Galaxy S
Google stated on the IO, that devices capable running Gingerbread is also capable running ICS.
OK, I'll ask ..... what is ICS?

sony ericsson said that every xperia from 2011 will get ics. the arc is weaker than galaxy s,so it should run perfectly on our sgs.
sony ics? nono
[Updated] Sony Ericsson Promises 2011 XPERIA Line Will Get Ice Cream Sandwich, We Try To Act Skeptical
Sony Ericsson: No Decision Has Been Made To Bring Ice Cream Sandwich To Xperia Devices
I personally dont think Sony Ericsson will abandon Xperia Arc, Neo etc, I think they'll get ICS and I really hope Samsung also release it for SGS, I think the hardware can manage it perfectly
Hmm 2.3.4 is released for SGS2, i still have not recived official 2.3.4 here in sweden..very odd
The thing is, even if our galaxy s does get ics, it might not work flawlessly. On eclair, the galaxy s had around 200Mb of RAM on boot, while on froyo it had around 160Mb or RAM. However, on gringerbread, it only has about 120-140Mb of RAM upon boot, and after just a day of usage, it can drop up to 80-90Mb, causing the phone to operate rather slowly, something which did not happen when I was on froyo. So, my fear is that the RAM requirements of the ics might be a tad too high for the galaxy s to handle for long term usage.
I agree with rschenk. I think hardware is not a problem about Galaxy S but when I saw how long we have been waiting for gingerbread... Maybe official release ICS for Galaxy S will be a year after google release the ICS SDK.

There is always a solution. Look what they did with HTC Desire to get gingerbread, they removed some integrated programs to free up ram, same thing could be done with SGS
As already said they could just clean some useless stock apps (there are enough ) and then we'll have no problem with RAM.
Looks like we will get it.
http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile...xus-one-and-most-gingerbread-phones-20111019/
of course we will
that was obvious as soon as the leaked ICS video emerged running very well on Nexus S preceded with screenshots of system settings/system info also from Nexus S - everything that runs there runs easily on SGS1 - it was rumored that it will run on almost every device capable running GB - it just got confirmed
after Galaxy Nexus it will be first (at least officialy) SGS2 / Nexus S / Galaxy Note probably and then Nexus One and SGS1
there will be no official ICS prior to Galaxy Nexus Premiere
but i belive in leaks so we might get some early build leaks
but that will be best guarded scret of Samsung/Google till then =)
As first:
We will use icecream and jellybean and later on our device. %100.
Cyanogenmod?
Samsung will release Ice Cream for our devices too.. It's %100 and I think we will get ice cream earlier than SGS2! Look how we get 2.3.5 earlier. That's not %100. But that's; We will use a few more updates on our devices.

[Q] [I9000/I9001] Does this mean we can get ICS update?

I've been searching a little bit and found this: http://getsatisfaction.com/samsungmobilein/topics/will_galaxy_s_plus_get_android_4_0_update
Does it mean we'll get ICS, or not?
No... Samsung claims that Galaxy S isn't powerful enough for it. This may be true if you talk about ICS with Samsung's overlay programs (i.e. Touchwiz), but ICS is ALREADY working pretty darned well on our beloved handsets. Check out Onecosmic and Team Hacksung in the dev section. I am running OneCosmic's RC3.1 and it works wonderfully...

If they can make ICS work on Google Nexus S, they can make it work for this devices. The official ICS runs flawlessly on my dad's Nexus S. They obviously don't want to, because if they remove all of the bloatware, there will be enough space for everything.
Exactly. We KNOW it will work because we have ports that work almost perfectly already. But Samsung is in the business of selling phones, and you don't sell more phones by letting people with 2 year old handsets experience the same quality as those with new handsets.
I think we will get some Value pack, smth between GB and ICS

Samsung backed down on value pack too but a leaked version was available but was unstable and still gb ..... stupid touchwiz is the root of Samsungs problem should just remove it altogether

As I read somewhere that due to high demand of customers who are applying to update our SGS Samsung is reconsidering whether this is possible, though they updated the Nexus S should be able update the SGS. But for now it is official that there is no update.
But anyway Onecosmic's and TeamHacksung ports are functional and stables. We also have the ROM MIUI.

Nah that was a while ago, this website itself informed us Samsung wasn't doing it (probably said it to calm us down a bit then they quietly announced no value pack) so well Samsung are in clean language, not my favourite company anymore :L yeah the ports are better than anything Sammy would give us anyway not a fan of miui though

Did anyone else get an email about Galaxy Nexus? [CM9 Q]

Yeah.. I got an email about an hour ago saying this:
Welcome to your Galaxy Nexus!
Built in partnership by Samsung and Google, Galaxy Nexus has a vibrant HD Super AMOLED display and is the first phone that comes with Android 4.0, Face Unlock, Android Beamâ„¢ and the latest Google apps. Simple, beautiful and beyond smart.
And at the bottom....
We sent you this one-time welcome message because you recently activated your Google account on a Galaxy Nexus phone.
Is this from CM9? Or is my google account hacked?
I got it too. I'm assuming that something in the ROM is faking a Galaxy Nexus. Either that or Google assumes that all 4.0+ activations at this point are the Galaxy Nexus, although I believe some other devices like the Transformer Prime have started getting their official updates to ICS as well.
Oh ... so I am not being sent a Galaxy Nexus?
This happened with a ROM on the Captivate too. The build.prop mimicked a certain phone (Nexus S I believe) and tons of people got that "Welcome to the Nexus program" email. Or, maybe it was the mod to make Netflix work in the market (before it supported all 2.2 devices) ... something like that.

Lol. I thought that was an odd email.

Galaxy S i9000 Getting an Official 4.0.5 ICS?

im not pretty sure about this but i read some things about this 4.0.5 and it was said it was going to be released on i9000
4.0.5 said to be has a BIG performance fix..
i got this news from this link
http://www.androiddigit.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus-and-nexus-s-to-get-android-4-0-5-ics-in-march/
Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S
The news link clearly states only the galaxy nexus and nexus S. Plus it was abundantly made clear in older news posts around the net that the i9000 is not getting ICS and neither will it get the rumored Value pack. As I too am a i9000 user, it kinda sucks to know this
i know samsung said something like that...
but.. dude i think theres a big possibility due to this
Performance FIX thing.. because thats the only one stopping from galaxy S to ICS is Performance..
I'm no great shake on what appears to me to be French, but...
1) Your Article was written for the Nexus and Nexus S and not for the GT-I900Xx (a.k.a the Galaxy S)
2) Where the Article in question even mentions the Galaxy S (Some Table taken from a presumably French source), states quite clearly (even to a non French speaker like myself that the Galaxy S is to only get Android 2.3.6 (Presumably the Value Pack Version), release date February 2012 to be released over Kies.
To indirectly quote your Source it was a table of Official Updates for their current line of Phones.
So I fail to see where you misread this Article into thinking that the Galaxy S was somehow going to get an ICS Update, when Samsung have up to this point stressed that they would not, or could not officially update the GT-I900Xx do to whatever limitations between Touchwiz 3.0 and ICS.
**Edit** What Samsung we're not even gonna get the Value Pack now?
/r/ Sauce kthnxbye!
No chance! Wishful thinking at best. SGS is useless with its 512mb RAM. Either that or the software engineers at Samsung can only compile bloat. The latest iOS seems to function perfectly on iphone4 though. Split between whether i should wait for SGS3 or grab the next iphone and jailbreak the hell outta it. Hmm decisions decisions...

common guys...what makes you thinking that we'll get android 5?
Samsung will forget our phone, if he doesn't yet....
there's ported sgs2 ics firmware for sgs, it's on pre alpha state but its working very good, i'm using it right now
sgs has enough power to ics to work fine
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Samsung might forget us, but XDA devs won't! And if the unofficial ICS builds are any indication, our phone sure is powerful enough to handle ICS.
It sure does suck that we're not getting official ICS, but the awesome community here has infinitely improved my experience, so for that I'm glad and grateful.
Like Samsung is going to go trough the trouble of making an ICS version for a phone that is almost two years old.
I'd rather have them focus on creating top-notch software for my next phone..... The SGSIII......
