How do you boot into Recovery - LG Revolution

I am new to the Revolution and just bought a used one. When the phone boots up is there anyway to boot directly into recovery. I do have the revo tools and can get into recovery from the running phone. I just worry I may accidentally muck thing up and will need to boot into recovery to restore my phone from a backup. But not sure if it is possible to boot directly into recovery. I have searched the net but not having much luck.
Thanks

You are rooted right? If rooted just put gingervolt on and it's in the power menu. On another note turn off then turn back on hold power button and volume down through lg logo. Screen will come up that says to erase data click confirm by the power button and it will go into cwm. It won't actually erase the data.
GINGERVOLTED!

Thanks again. That worked. I appreciate the quick reply.

To boot directly into cwm from and off phone just hold down power and volume down. Then press power twice to confirm the wipe. It won't wipe anything. It just pushes you into cwm

Also had a question about this. I used mt's all in one batch to root and install cwm, but I have no revotoolkit in my appdrawer? Is there a way to tell I actually have cwm without risking erasing my data on the phone by booting into it?

Mt's all in one is not Revo Toolkit which is why you don't see it. Everything you need to root or unroot is in the all in one package. If you used the all in one then you have CWM. Long press power button and choose recovery if you are using GingerVolt 1.3.

Download Quick Boot from the market and select recovery. If it cwm it will boot into it, if not it will just reboot.

[Q]Accessing Recovery With Broken Power Button

So I have a bit of an issue. Over the weekend my power button stopped working like it has for many people.
I finally got to a computer last night and was able to turn it on using a method I had read about.
I was using madaco's desire port but I didn't have the option for wake with trackball baked into it. Which I need to have my phone usable. So I had another ROM baked on his site with that option in it but I forgot to tick the option to have the .zip signed. (I'm using an older recovery, had been to lazy to update)
I didn't realized it wasn't signed until I had go into recovery, wiped everything and then attempted to flash at which time it said no because it wasn't signed. So I said F it I'll do it in the morning.
So today I realized I can't boot the phone up because I had wiped everything, including the ext partition. It just sits at the X screen with the unlocked paddle lock on it. Due to this I can't access it with ADB to get to recovery.
If I restart the phone and put it into HBOOT I can't select recovery because you have to press the power button to select the option.
I also tried finding a fastboot command to boot into recovery but didn't locate one.
SOO
Does anyone have a clue how I can get this damn thing into recovery? I'm normally really good with this stuff but I am stumped at this point.
And before anyone says it I can't exchange it because my screen is cracked.
If you can grab a kernel and and recovery image on your PC you can boot them using
fastboot boot <kernel image> <recovery image>
Is that going to get me to a point where I can flash a new rom on it? I was running all of my cache on SD so when I wiped it is messed the rom up.
It already has Amon_RA recovery on it, the release prior to the newest one. So do I really need to flash another one to it?
All I can think of is possibly reverting to stock via the passimg method, but I can't remember if you need to use the power button to confirm during the process?
Once you have a working ROM, you can root via superoneclick, and install superboot to boot into recovery.
Problem is, you'll then have a stock recovery...
Once you're booted and rooted though, you can always use adb, or ROM Manager right?

Yeah that's the route I'm thinking about taking. But I think there are option you have to use the power button to confirm.
I'm messing around with different boot.img right now to try and get it to boot. If I could just get the damn thing to boot I'd be all set cause I can use adb from that point. But right now when it stops at the X screen ADB can detected the phone but if you try to access the shell you get "failed to link /system/bin/sh
Thanks for the input man
If your bootloader is unlocked, you can re-image with fastboot.
Also, if you're not unlocked, I'm pretty sure the passimg only selects options with the volume keys...

I went with the superboot method. When I ran the .bat files it restarted the device and put it into recovery. I flashed a fresh ROM from there.
It's made it to the boot animation so I'll see if it fully boots up in a minute .
Okay, I'm back in action. Thanks for the in put guys.
Great!
D'ya need an unlocked bootloader to use superboot (I've never used it)?

just download the PASSIMG for FRF91 from

Have you tried booting into recovery? Power+volume down...
Did you try to boot without the SD card? It helped me once.
Assuming you are running a custom recovery image, go to it via the bootloader menu (Turn phone on while holding volume down, then navigate to recovery using the volume buttons and selecting recovery using the power button). You should then be able to flash the same ROM you currently have installed. If however this is a completely stock device then you could run PASSIMG.zip via the bootloader to save your current install. If you need more info just ask

If you can flash a rom use 2.1.1 not 2.1. Assume you are doing that thru fastboot from pc.
Also, try the 3 finger reboot to get to recovery.
Hold down pwr/vol-/trackball at sametime until phone boots into bootloader, then navigate to recovery option. Then wipe all and restore a good bu. If this happened while dl'ing apps, one may be bad. Get all of them off phone and do one at a time.

Ok, understand now.
You may have some options thru fastboot and the pc. Do you have SDK installed on pc. I am not good at that, someone else may have suggestions along those lines. Unless, as I asked, you already have used that method to flash amon ra 2.1.
If you can thru fastbboot with SDK I would still flash amon 2.1.1

Someone will get you going
Sounds like you are using SDK, it may be the way to wipe and get back to an original phone state, then reupgrade. I don't know sdk very well.
Did you try the other idea of trying to get to recovery with sd card out of phone. If you do that you may want to back it up while out of phone if you have a sd card reader
Good Luck and wait for more help

Just restore a stock image.
Follow the wiki guide for unroot/restore. Use the passimg method, with the FRG33 zip, which can be found by following the link on the word "here" on step 2...

[Q] Getting into recovery mode

Hi,
I was wanting to perform a nandroid backup of my phone so that i can upgrade to the latest baseband as I don't really want to wait for it to be released in the uk.
So I turned the phone off and then powered the phone back on. I have read through this forum and on google and found I need to press The power button and volume down until android appeared. So...
The first time I did this the first screen I got to was the updating screen. I let go before the screen appeared as my htc hero (phone before my O2X) booted straight into recovery mode after holding for a second or two. I had to pull the battery and let the phone reboot.
The second time I did it I got to a box with an arrow pointing out of with the android outside of it so I let go again. This time it has wiped the phone back to factory defaults.
Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong please. Obviously the nandroid backup is useless now I have nothing to backup but I'd still like to know for the future.
I hope someone can point me in the right direction
Sedge
If entering recovery reset your phone you didn't install clockworkmod recovery. Install CWM from a thread in the O2X development forum or download ROM Manager from Market
Oooooo that makes me feel like a right n00b.... cheers for that. Do i need root access for cwm?
If i was to get rom manager does that do the same job as cwm to get into recovery mode??
thank you so much for your help!!

Yes you need root, if you use the one from my thread, it gains a root shell to flash it, but doesn't perm root the phone.
Use SuperOneClick if you want proper root.
Cheers for that rusty. I might just perm root it tbh then i can also do a titanium backup and use that. When you say it needs root to flash, does Cwm flash something onto the phone to make the phone enter recovery? If it does, what does it flash?
Thanks again!!

It flashes itself so you can boot into it.
You can use ROM Manger to boot into it, vol- & power, reboot apps from the Market etc

3.41 bootloader info from google support

Well I decided to call Google about the boot loader recovery not working as it should. I was hoping this call would help them to work on another update but they say that's the way its supposed to work. Here's the email Instructions:
1. Power down your device
2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter
Bootloader mode
3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option
4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode
5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then
press the Volume up button.
6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished,
select 'Reboot system now.'
The only option we have in the new recovery is to wipe data. Maybe for those having problems accessing twrp or cwm will be able to a access it with step 5. I don't know haven't rooted yet. So I decided to ask about nvflash and they said they're not going to release any nvflash tools or files.
um, yup. thats how stock bootloader and stock recovery work. lol
whats the issue? if your not even rooted, you wouldn't even know if you have an issue or not with the new bootloader.
Are you saying that you can't flash a different recovery? Or that when you do you still get the same stock recovery? I'm not quite sure what the issue is here, because that is exactly how the stock bootloader, and recovery are supposed to work.
Are you making sure to unlock fastboot before trying to flash recovery. I don't recall seeing or hearing anyone say anything about not being able to get to clockwork mod once its installed.

No. I saw people posting they couldn't get go cwm and could only see the red exclamation point. And I was just saying maybe after choosing recovery then holding volume up and power it would then go to cWm or twrp. I was hoping for someone to try it who is still on 3.41 Recovery. A lot of people downgraded back to 3.39 or whatever version it was

I can confirm that to get in to the stock recovery you hold down 'power' and then tap 'vol up'.
At present I am running the latest CWM touch recovery. This boots straight into it from the bootloader without any extra button presses.
My personal preference to go into CWM is from either QuickBoot or ROM Manager.

When I first flashed TWRP onto my Nexus 7 after that official 4.1.2 OTA update, I wasn't able to boot into it. I then flashed it again via fastboot, and then booted the TWRP image that was on my computer, and then TWRP loaded.
I believe TWRP does work normally now as well (I can boot into it and reboot into it).

going to recovery from bootloader works fine after 3.41.....wat r u talkin abt? (i m stock rooted+twrp)
oh yea...u hav 2 remove that recovery stock.p file thingy first.
There are plenty of people that are having issues with recovery on 3.41 bootloader.... Its confirmed some have it some don't.
The issue is that with 3.41 bootloader on some Nexus 7 Devices a custom recovery is unbootable no matter how you try, every time it will try to load recovery and fail at a black screen then reboot into the OS. It does not matter how you try from ADB reboot to recovery or from bootloader with USB attached or not.

In your system folder there's a file called 'recovery-from-boot.p'
Go into a file manager with w/r access and rename it ' recovery-from-boot.p.bak'
When the system boots it reads that file and resets the recovery to stock, by changing the name you remove the problem.

No, you won't need to. Just go to the end of step 3 and you're good to go. That's as far as I took mine aswell because I'm not interested in ROMs which are just stock with a few extra features.
I rooted just so I can have access to certain apps which need root permission and so that I'm ready to flash ROMs once more come along which aren't stock based

Yes that was stated by kidcarter93 above. It's also stated in the op of the other thread. Unlocking the bootloader wipes your phone. If you are lucky enough to have automatic back up and restore turned on (it's on by default) u needn't worry as your stuff should reappear again in a while.

Flash a recovery in fastboot, use the USB cable the one was shipped with.
After that, in fastboot, choose recovery and confirm with power button.
Boot into recovery, do a backup of your stock ROM, then choose reboot.
If possible use CWM, TWRP may cause problems.
When you are booted up, copy the root tools to your sd card via your computer, go back to recovery (power down, wait a few secs, then press Power and Vol- at the same time and hold for several seconds...this brings you back to hboot/fastboit screen where you can select recovery again)
In recovery, select the root.zips and flash them...boot back and your stock ROM is rooted.
The first back up of your stock ROM (nandroid) keep it safe as a copy on your computer
