Im sorry to ask this (its really noobish..) but im getting my optimus 2x tomorrow and would like to install a custom rom on it simply because of most reports being that LG stock is crap! Ive had a Htc HD2 for ages now and am used to flashing that and android for it but it seems that flashing for the optimus is different?
Ive been looking but i havent really found anything to help me grasp the basics on flashing the optimus so id appreciate if anyone could just give me a very basic guide for example:
1. Download this program
2. Run the program and then select your rom to flash
(something like that?)
And also the main question i have is, is there a way to undo all the flashes and return it back to stock so it will be fine for warranty replacements? As some hardware issues are mentioned id rather keep my warranty if possible!
Any helps appreciated, im still reading through all the threads in the android dev section but again i dont want to brick my brand new phone as its different to the HD2!.
There is nvflash for flashing back to the stock roms when/if needed.
Rooting is simple just find SuperOneClick.
Next you need to get ClockworkMod Recovery on there, latest version is here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/l...-clockworkmod-recovery-for-the-lg-optimus-2x/
Put the zip file of your Rom on your external sd card.
Boot into recovery (Power On whilst holding Volume Down)
WIPE, make a nandroid backup, then find the Rom you want using power button as enter and volume keys to navigate.
THANKYOU! Obviously cant do anything till tomorrow but i appreciate you answering my post and giving me the low down , i have been reading the cyanogenmod wiki page (only found it recently lol) which has also been helpful but the main issue for me was not knowing if i could flash back to stock for warranty, since i can then im a lot happier .
Hello Everyone, I just received a Captivate to mess around with, because my friend just went to an iPhone (I know I know).
I'm not new to flashing, I use a Moto Atrix 2 CM10 for my daily driver atm, but wanted to get CM10 on this Cap for 2 reasons:
1.. he ran Froyo the past 2 years, driving me insane, and I want to see how JB could enhance this phone.
2.. CM10 has an option for Volume rocker waking, the power button on this bad boy is broke. I opened the phone up, tried it manually, and it's an electrical hardware problem, which is beyond me.
So the main problem: Flashing via Recovery. Since the power button is kaput, I can't make any selections in Recovery... or can I?
I'm currently using Kies Mini to get firmware up to 2.3, and the plan is to get to 4.0.4, then CM10/4.1 or 4.2
I have Odin, so would I be able to flash through that? (The only problem here, is getting into download mode, which I understand I can do with ADB, but I've been searching for links to download the drivers for a while... zilch,)
Sorry if this is such a noob question. the Moto A2 is a locked bootloader so developers are very specific on how we move with our Roms. This phone isn't but I still am unsure.
Any roms that I would be able to flash through Odin(if not all) or Kies Mini, and any Roms that have the option to wake via volume rocker is definitely appreciated. Thank you all!

Adb commands will get you in download mode. You can also use a jig if needed. As for Odin, you will need to flash the gb bootloaders (kk4). From there, use Odin 1.85 to flash corn kernel. Now I think you would need a Odin one click of CM10 to be able to flash it without the power button but I'm not exactly sure how to make them.
I'll look into it tomorrow though. Good luck!

In recovery that is? Which button do you use?
That's some great info, I never though about it eh.

For KK4 Corn Kernel...
Menu = Down
Home = Up
Back arrow = Back
Search icon = Select

So I need to flash the KK4 Kernel I'm assuming in order to make this work.
I can flash that through Odin Correct?
Now Download mode can be achieved through ADB, but I have no idea how to get there. I understand there are ports I have to download (google?) and I've searched a little bit and can't seem to find too much on it.
Then I can flash the Kernel through Odin (I have to look that up) and then I'll be able to select via the capacitave buttons in recovery! Which means I'm going to have to root the phone, get CMW, and then get CM10?
Now I'm in 2.3... do I have to jump to 4.0.4 before I jump to CM10?
Thank you all for your help so far I didn't think I'd make any progress on this phone, it the condition that it's in.
^
Just use this [Utility] KK4 Easy Root...
Great Utility !!!
Use this to get Root, KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A that includes CWM Recovery. Also can use it to reboot into Recovery and Download mode.
Be sure to thank Red_81
Look under Red_81's signature...he has another Utility...adb portable.

Simply hold both vol buttons and plug in USB. That's all it takes. On these devices, recovery is baked into the kernel, so you don't need any additional steps to get that. Rooting can be done from Corn kernel recovery, but that is unnecessary unless you need Titanium Backup or something. You can flash whatever you want from there, and you will need to flash it twice (once from corn, once in CM recovery).

Awesome guys, thank you so much. So I've rooted, can get into CWM through the utility.
What I hope to be my final question:
Can I jump from 2.3 GB to 4.1/2 CM10 with flashing from CWM? or should I jump to ICS first?
Honestly, thanks so much with this!

Follow their instructions. I think for CM, you need to flash CM9 first but I'm not 100% sure.
Thank you all
It's resolved! Got CM10!
I'm going to play with multiple ROMs now that flashing can be done with the capacitive buttons. Thank you all so much! I hope anyone that has this problem can follow this thread to get it done.

Glad to hear that problem is resolved =)
About flashing 4.1/4.2 from 2.3 - You don't have to flash 4.0.X first, all GB/ICS/JB are on the same bootloader, so you can flash ROMs in any order.
I'm pretty new to this, and I didn't fully understand the whole rom, flash, kernel stuff but I did it anyway, seeing as I jailbroke my ipod when I knew next to nothing about that kinda stuff...
Well, I rebooted into recovery using rom manager, and it didn't reboot. It shut off, but didn't turn back on.. I tried to turn it back on myself and only the lg logo would appear..
So I googled what was happening to my phone. It's either in the 'boot loop' or bricked... i don't know the difference, or if there's even one but what the hell do I do to fix it? ..
I tried holding down the power, 3D and volume down button but the recovery menu doesn't come up... and I really don't wanna download any more programs to fix it :/
Im sorry but you must now have to download some programs to fix. You follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491870
And Flash your firmware using the kdz files. If you have anymore problems feel free to ask.

This worked for me
Sorry about the phone. This worked easier for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1448803
BUT I already had .bin and .fls files on my computer, not .kdz. I suppose either way is about the same. It does feel like you are groping in the dark for a while, then it all comes together. And when you are done learning all about it you can fix all your friends' Androids for a bunch of Starbucks coffee or whatever.
:cyclops:
Also, be careful with custom recovery (CWM/TWRP); just be sure it works with your particular phone first. That's what 'bricked' mine; I had custom recovery not really compatible with the setup I have going on my Thrill and got bootloop. I had to reflash the ROM image as in above link or the one in the other poster to get out of it.
whoops
sorry guys ive been busy with work lately ill have to give that first option a go seeing as i basically have nothing left of the old system
ill update after i try it.
That last post of mine is old. This is my LG Flash Tool guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39269819
Drivers are tricky to set up the first time you try it, but Flash Tool is more reliable in my opinion.
BTW P920 and P925 are the same device. Thrill is just the US AT&T branded version (who I have never used; I unlocked mine with a Straight Talk SIM). I have a Thrill and some small numbering inside the battery cover says "P920."
update
ok i just now have the time to try to restore my phone.
id like to get it back to rooted stock ics as its sole purpose will be games/other non important junk and id like to still have the 3d.
the phone currently has no os and boot to twrp i also dont have any of my old recovery files so im essentially starting from scratch on my new laptop.
where do i go from here?
can i just download a zip or recovery and and use the restore/install feature on twrp?
Follow the guide to install rooted stock ICS by way of LG Flash Tool.
bricked lg thrill 4g
my phone is bricked the only thing it has is cwm recovery
i need to be able to get an os on it ..i dont can if it stock or rooted gb or ics i just need it done.and the above link's files no longer work... i need a no bs way to get this fixed ..any takers?
Hello, I have been searching these forums for my problem for couple of weeks now, today I have decided to register and ask.
My problem is upgrading to ICS. I have tried using the LG Mobile support tool and all I get is: "Software update not avaivable for this model."
I have LG Optimus 2X(You would never guess, would you? ) currently running Android 2.3.4.
I also live in Serbia, so correct version for me should be v30A.
As I stated above, I am unable to update using LG mobile support tool. I heard that there's another way by flasing the phone with stock ROM.
But, I am really new to all of these and I could really use step by step guide on how to do this.
I guess I didnt give enough info about my phone, but I am not sure what info is needed, so please tell me what else I should give you and where I can find that.
Check out the aio toolkit thread. The All In One Toolkit features an offline updater for stock ROMs. All info you need can be found in that thread.
I extracted the latest KDZ file with AIO and then used the Smart Flash tool in AIO to flash my phone to ICS.
The LG flash tool didn't work for me either, it kept saying something happened and that I had to contact customer support.
Thanks for help, I managed to flash it via smartflash and AIO helped a lot.
Now, I really liked my old home screen a lot, but, I dont know how to create floders and change the number of pages on homescreen. Also about widgets, I am unable to find the LG widget for SMS messages and alarm.
I would also like to be a badass and root the phone and then remove some of the system apps which I ont use.

HI THERE!! DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF A CURRENT WORKING DOWNLOAD LINK TO EITHER A GINGERBREAD OR ICS UPDATE ZIP FILE FOR AN LG REVOLUTION (VS910)? IF NOT POSSIBLY A CURRENT WORKING DOWNLOAD LINK TO A FLASHABLE FROYO ROM FOR LG REVOLUTION (VS910)? I'M TRYING TO FIX AN LG REVOLUTION THAT IS MESSED UP......NO RECOVERY PARTITION, PHONE REFUSES TO BE RECOGNIZED VIA USB/ADB ON COMPUTER, SO I'VE ONLY GOT WIFI ADB TO WORK WITH. PHONE IS STILL ON FROYO 2.2.2. PRETTY SURE I CAN FIX THIS PHONE IT IF I COULD JUST GET MY HANDS ON EITHER AN FLASHABLE UPDATE OR A CURRENT WORKING DOWNLOAD LINK TO ONE OF THE FEW CUSTOM ROMS I SEEN HAD BEEN BUILT FOR IT. I KNOW THIS PHONE IS OF "DINOSAUR" STATUS, IT BELONGS TO MY HUSBAND, AND HE FINALLY HANDED IT TO ME RECENTLY AND ASKED ME IF I WOULD FIX IT FOR HIM. (ITS NOT WORKED RIGHT FOR A VERY LONG TIME, BUT HE WAS FINE WITH IT) LET ME JUST SAY "WOW" I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE JUST WHAT BUTTONS HE MUST HAVE PUSHED HERE AND THERE TO EVEN MANAGE TO GET A PHONE MESSED UP THIS WAY!! LOL DON'T GET ME WRONG I LOVE HIM DEARLY, BUT LET'S JUST SAY I AM THE MORE "TECHIE" ONE IN THE RELATIONSHIP!! AT THIS POINT ITS SORT OF A PERSONAL CHALLENGE...ME VS PHONE. HA!HA! LUCKY ME!! :good:
Root>flash CWM recovery with Rom manager>reflash stock
