[Q] stock android / un-touchwiz galaxy note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

anybody knows where I can find to install a stock android for my galaxy note? something stock, no touchwiz. I think touchwiz is way way too bloated and is slowing down my sgn. I don't mind a sense android though

Unfortunately, aosp roms are not out as yet. You can try cassie lite rom, it has removed most of the bloat. But its stilk touchwiz based. I have done that and am using go launcher which works fine for me.

with stock Rom (without touchwiz), can the s-pen still ce used? I'm new in this. sorry and thank you

You don't need touchwiz to use the pen, but you do need the stylus drivers installed. As long as the ROM is made specifically for Galaxy Note it should work fine. I'm using ADW EX launcher instead of touchwiz, its very good.

Switch to TWICS UX and you'll enjoy TW 5 (SGS III) and ICS 4.0.4

this is quite confusing.
2.3.6 already has tw ui. If you want the latest tw ux, so far you can only have the launcher.
touchwiz is not just the launcher. there's a whole part of gingerbread code heavily modded by samsung and resulting in i.e twframework-res.apk and .odex you do not have in vanilla gingerbread. And proprietary sammy apps (phone, fm radio, camera, sms, calendar, widgets...) depend and work only together with this added framework. that's why you cannot easily port this apps to another rom.
but with 2.3.6 you already have tw ui

This was my first thought too.
Shame though that whatever version of TW, used in the Value Pack.
It seems to be incompatible with some of the older TW based Apps.
Chefkoch.de Widget... Im looking at you!
p.s. Given how well TW4.0 worked (or works), on the GT-i9000.
Really what are the chancs that someone will actuall manage it with the next-gen Touchwiz?
IIRC parts of TW4 requierd Hardware features that just are not present on the SGS, and so could never work to begin with...

Sorry I thought ui was the latest one (on the galaxy s 3) that's the one I, I only want the launcher? And you say there's hardware confinements, I had the latest launcher on my sgs on ics so the hardware can handle it..

UI = User Interface...
In this case "ui" is used to describe sammy's proprietary framework and apps.
you can install tw launcher - almost any version - in other roms but it is way harder to port the rest of samsung addons.
Yes all I want is that launcher, where can I find it to download?

Probably you tried to flash only the addon TW UX pack for CM9.. but you are on Gingerbread so it won't install.
There's another full package, including ICS 4.0.4 ROM based on CM9 nightly + TW UX perfectly working. This means switching from GB to ICS, but it's worth it.
Here's the thread link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608624
Yes I know it wont work but you said it might so I tried it wasn't the addon pack it was a stand alone launcher and I've bin on ics before I want a gb launcher -_-

I've never said it might work on GB
In a previous post i wrote
"Switch to TWICS UX and you'll enjoy TW 5 (SGS III) and ICS 4.0.4"
TWICS means Touchwiz for ICS (not gingerbread) and 4.0.4 is only ICS.
It was a suggestion to change rom, not to install a launcher
I'm sorry that you misunderstood me
Like man above wrote. You need to instal ICS rom, if you wanna T UX, because samsung create this user interface for ICS
Okay thank you

S-Memo / S-Note Reinstallation

Where to get S-Memo and S-Note for our GT-N7000, I recently tried to flash JB 4.1 from the developers thread for Galaxy note.
But I didn`t realized that I willl have those features deleted and not gonna be able to use it on 4.1 version.
Does any one of you have an Idea how to get it back?
PS: I dont have any google map either, tried to install other maps but Im not impressed Im still looking forward on how to restore google map on my phone.
Thanks
Jellybean on my note.
You could try to take them out of stock rom. Or a backup.

You need samsung official rom.. They use the touchwiz launcher and all those features needs touchwiz framework in order to work..
So go back samsung official roms if you need that (or any custom touchwiz)
To get Google maps just look for it in the play store.. It's free

I am on CM9 and was thinking about moving to Criskelo ROM (based on TW) - If I use Apex Launcher with Criskelo, will I be able to add S-Notes and other TW widgets to the launcher?

To use S Note and Memo, you need a TW-based ROM. Any of the CM and AOKP ROMs will not allow you to use the S apps.

You should be able to add S Memo widgets. I don't see any S Note widgets.
Criskelo 4.04 ICS LRK v11.2, LRK Modem, speedmod k3-13 kernel, Carrier: AT&T (US)

Ok I've just installed Criskelo and I can add S Memo widgets with Apex Launcher but not S Calendar widgets...
The TW launcher doesn't seem too bad, I'll stick with it for now.

Vanilla means nexus style stock like the nexus s gingerbread

Doesnt any one know where do i find such a rom its another rom that is called cleanrom but cleanrom is for the wifi only tab i want it for the p1000
I just read Cleanrom thread.
Nothing special. It is just a tweak Samsung euro gb rom for P1010.
Tweaked by removing Samsung bloatware and added adw launcher.
So your equivalent for P1000 will be Overcome 4.1 ?
Or Acudroid ROM, which I prefer to Overcome, especially with Redpill kernel.

Touchwiz for a rooted GB abyss kernel on a Note?

Hi, folks...
I use mainly Go launcher for my Note, but sometimes feel like using Touchwiz... While I don't think it is so bad like some would have us think, I have been wondering if the new Touchwiz 5 can be installed on a rooted GB stock ROM, without installing new ROM?
THANKS!

Soooooo-no file?

[Q] Which ROM do you recommend?

I've just got my second hand note.
There seem to be a lot of awesome ROMs available.
Which ROM(s) would you recommend?
Preferably 4.2.2 and with the good Samsung features integrated.
Cheers

If you want samsung note then u neet to be on 4.1 2 and tw roms like ultimate or sweet or alliance
Else u can b on 4.2.2 with PA3 or asylum rom etc.. but then you will not have samsung features

Thank you, that was helpful.
I've tried now Aliance and Ultimate ROM.
One more question though, can I not change the theme on the TW ROMs, even if they are deodexed like Ultimate?
Non of them seems to include T-mobile theme chooser.
Cheers.
