If you don't unlock the bootloader, then aNa Kernel is out of question! In unlocking your X8, check the date of manufacturing, and READ, UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW the instructions to the dot! Then you are safe!

Well, you could try to be a wee bit more specific - let me remind you that we don't possess crystal balls to read your mind or read the error messages you got.
It would be nice to know WHAT error message you actually get when connecting the X8 in flash mode to unlock the bootloader.
Also, for as long as you didn't manage to hard brick your device ... restore the STOCK ROM through PCC or Flashtool (search this forum - there have been trillions of threads about it in the past few weeks) before attempting a bootloader unlock.
Of course you need to root your phone after you restored back to Stock so that bootloader unlock or recovery injection works.
EDIT: Once you successfully unlocked the bootloader while being on the Stock ROM you may then proceed to flashing miniCM AND the required kernel to make it boot (if you fail the kernel installation you need to restart from "restore Stock ROM" as there's no way out of the "Sony Ericsson" logo bootloop).

Thanks for your comment. I think i found the person as you understanding my error: To response to your points:
1: When i connected my phone as Flash mode to unlock bootloader, error message is "ERROR - USB\VID_0FCE&PID_ADDE\5&81DC10E&0&2". How to fix this error?
From this end, I will search how to restore Stock Rom.
On a somewhat related note ... please ignore the ill-mannered trolls who posted after my reply ... it seems to be a fact that the MODERATOR OF THIS SECTION STILL FAILS HIS JOB TO ENFORCE PROPER BEHAVIOR (like treat each other with respect and keep the language at a civil level)!

Let us investigate the error output in detail...
You launch Flashtool, you select to the unlock the boot loader and then you connect the USB cable of your X8 to the computer while HOLDING the back button and KEEPING it pressed?
If yes, and you get the error message ...
Ignore the error output for a moment and open the "Device Manager" (START -> "Computer" -> Right-click -> "Manage" ... in the window that opens now select "Device Manager" on the left).
Do you have the "SEMC Flash Device" showing up in the list of devices on the right WITHOUT a yellow or red warning sign (or is it even missing entirely)?
If you are missing any signs of the "SEMC Flash Device" in Device Manager your computer was unable to install the required driver. In this case you try to either install the Android drivers through "Gordon's Gate" (ggsetup-<version>.exe - comes with Flashtool) or you can download and install PC Companion which would also install the SEMC Android drivers.
As a further troubleshoot measure: Try another USB port OR another computer entirely. We already observed Windows installations giving troubles for unknown reasons - where it then worked out by using another computer/laptop.
Now let's see what your reply will be.

Hi B.Jay,
That's fantastic having your initiative idea and willing to investigate my problem. I really appreciate it. Please refer to below for my response:
- I have checked in "Device Manager", it is absolutely as you said there is a yellow sign near by "SEMC Flash Device". Then, I have follow your step to install both ggsetup-2.2.0.11 and PC Companion. However, the result seems no change.
In order to keep on track for your further finding what my problem really is, I would like to share you on my current x8 specification as below:
- Firmware version: 2.1 -update 1
- Basedband version: M76xx-TSNCJOLYM-53404015
- Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected]#1
- Build number: 2.1.1.A.0.6
- My X8 is rooted and has xRecovery
With above info, does it help you to identify how can/should I be able to unlock bootloader in order to flash kernel later? I believe you can HELP me on this.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Roatha

Hi and thanks for reading my question,
I have an xperia z with french network (SFR) customing. When I'm turning on my phone, there is an SFR's logo appears. How can I flash my phone with original rom ?
Thanks a lot for your help and sorry for my english.
AW: [Q] Flash with stock rom
Grab Flashtool, an unbranded original rom in FTF format and flash it using flashtool.
If youre familiar with Samsung, its the same as flashing tar.md5 with Odin.
Thx, I'm not familiar with Samsung :silly: lol. So if I debrand my phone, don't need to unlock bootloader or root the phone ? I don't want to loose official updates and Bravia Engine 2.
Thx for your help and I extract my original rom for french people who want "SFR" rom.
No, unlocking is not needed. Official FTF's can be crossflashed on branded devices to unbrand them.
You may pull a backup of your current firmware to have it ready to make your phone look like factory fresh. There's tutorials all over the place how to do that, you may ask Google. It basically involves telling PC Companion to "repair" your phone, it will then download the branded firmware from Sony and this file you copy from the download directory and safe it for later. Piece of cake
Superb ! The post could be close. Thx a lot !
I may have to add, I tried to pull a "backup" FTF for my still locked and brand new Z. PC Companion said there is no update available (yet). I find this peculiar as how am I supposed to "repair" my phone if I already ****ed my device up for real? I'll have to have an eye on the topic, hope FTF's will go online in the next couple days.
Has anyone uploaded a stock ROM yet? Couldn't find one.
There's at least one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2135948
Don't know if it's FTF though and the search is down, I can't search the thread.
Edit: I was wrong. No boyscout-flashable release yet it seems
Edit 2: The one who searches shall find: http://icxperia.com/doomlord/xperia_z/10.1.A.1.350/ I took it from the last post in the above linked thread. Posted by doomlord.
Thanks a lot but is this the proper retail dump or demo build? I read that thread but they said it was demo.
Have you flashed yet? Any solution on how to grab a backup of the vanilla firmware?
Alright, to clone your current firmware:
1. Connect phone while in PC Companion.
2. Where it says at the top "latest version installed", click on that text.
3. In the small message box that pops up, click "repair my phone".
4. You are now in the flashing steps as usual.
5. Proceed until you are given the option to back up.
6. Do as usual.

I dont have it from inside the thread, I browsed the directories Doom linked to and found that FTF in the process. I take it from the build 10.1.A.1.350 that we are talking release, don't know. Doesn't really matter either, unbranded is unbranded.
And I won't flash it, my free device came unbranded. I pay a lot of attention to only getting free, unlockable, unbranded devices.

As I wrote further up or in another thread (dunno), if I do that, I get a message that no firmware is available for download.

(Repair via PC Companion doesn't work, because it says the software on the phone is modified)

adb and fastboot should work fine.
My phone has no network and it says no sim card. After further investigation it appears that this is because the IMEI number has just gone, it doesnt exist on the phone. It is standard I have never changed software so have no idea how this could happen. Tried factory reset but nothing works. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your guidance...I have tried both option but it get stuck in middle somewhere and not able to flash the kdz file.
So at this moment LG Mobile support tools not able to cross 10% in firmware update process and stops due to some error.
With KDZ update tools, same situation....and device can connect to adb terminal no other recovery mode options.
So using adb terminal is there any chances to do some fix ?
I think I have currupted my boot loader during installation of third party recovery software without doing boot loader unlock option.
Please guide or suggest any other try.....
Thanks

It was happened like......the phone was working ok with latest official updates V20A and suddenly lost the IMEI number so Mobile network also. After some try finally I have done factory reset..but it was not working as expected...some time it has shown IMEI but lost also...tried many time factory reset but not worked...so tried with LG Mobile repair under upgrade and recovery option but it was failing at 10 % everytime. So thought lets intall new ROM so decided to install cyanogonmod so for preparation rooted phone and installed CWM recovery ....as doing all this first time so may be forgot to unlock the bootloader so after installation of CWM recovery phone has not booted and also not going to recovery menu. After that under upgrade mode tried to burn KDZ file using LG mobile support tool but that also not working.
So now the situation is, the can only go in to firmware update mode and some time getting connected to adb terminal.
So now is there any change of BL repair through adb terminal or the only option remain is visit LG support....?
Please guide....
Thanks,

Did you downloaded the files??
Install Drivers and follow the steps properly,
this should work for you to keep connected,
One more thing run drivers and flashtool as administrator, I already PM you.
Still having problems, please let me know.
If your phone is still not booting, I am afraid that you bricked it.
Good Luck

Hello everybody,
I'm new to all this stuff (I've never rooted or flashed my device before) so I would be really glad if someone could take their time to explain some things to me
About a month ago I decided to, after some time of consideration, upgrade the firmware of my Xperia Z1 to Lollipop (I previously had KitKat 4.4.4 installed). I upgraded solely because I wanted to be able to move apps (not just pictures and videos) to my SD card, which was, as we all know, something we couldn't easily do in KitKat without rooting. Even though I disliked basically everything else about Lollipop (including the new all-too-bright UI design, the unnecessarily large app icons and the lockscreen notifications) I decided to update to Lollipop, just to get the additional SD card functionality. I thought: "Oh well, I'll get used to it" and "It's probably something I can adapt to."
So I updated the firmware to Lollipop - and what a big mistake! HAHA, it's ludicrous! My device has become awful as its battery is draining super fast (from doing nothing but the regular stuff I've always done on my phone - and sometimes - from doing basically nothing at all), and as the device gets overheated all the time (again, from just doing the normal stuff - and sometimes - from doing absolutely nothing). Very soon I decided to do a factory reset, hoping it would change things. It didn't. I'm still experiencing annoying power draining issues and ridiculous overheating issues on my Z1.....
So, lately I've been reading and watching a lot about stuff like rooting, flashing and custom ROMs - things I barely knew anything about before. And what I'm currently thinking about is to flash my Z1 with the KitKat firmware I had prior to updating, so I can make things the way they were before (in other words: I want to downgrade the firmware). And then I think I'll install a custom ROM like SlimKat or iHackers to make my Z1 perform even better than before, and to get all those other benefits you get from rooting (like all those added features and settings, yay!)
Alright, so that was a bit about the background and the reason I want to do this...and here comes the questions I have right now:
Do I need an unlocked bootloader in order to flash my Xperia Z1 C6903? Sony's webpage about flashtools says that I need a unlocked bootloader in order to flash, but I've read on threads here on the XDA Xperia Z1 forum that I don't...what is right?
What are the right tools to flash my device and where do I find them?
Does it matter what/which build version I choose to flash to? I'm currently running Android 5.0.2 (14.5.A.0.270) and I want to downgrade to Android 4.4.4 and, if it matters, the version I had before upgrading to Lollipop. I think it was 14.4.A.0.157 but it might as well have been 14.4.A.0.108 or something else.
I'm asking all these things is because I really want to minimize the risk of bricking my device or causing any damage to the device that could have been avoided whatsoever. I've read many threads here on XDA, watched videos on YouTube among other things, but I'm still not sure about the things I asked above. Thanks in advance for being helpful! :good:
Best regards,
Andee23
no you don't need to unlock your bootloader for downgrading, actually don't play with bootloader if you will stay on stock(drm stuff)
you need right ftf file and flashtool, you need to see some user experiences for best build. there is no risk of bricking when you are flashing ftf(with right model number though).
http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php just download flashtool from here
find the best suitable ftf for you from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191
shut down your phone, open flashtool press on lightning symbol, choose flashmode, find the ftf you downloaded. press flash. wait for it to prepare files. when it asks for you to connect it, connect the usb cable while you are pressing volume down button. the process will start automatically. when it finishes. remove the usb cable open the device. press reply button above for further questions. thanks

OK so I just downloaded flashtool via your link. But a message comes up telling me that the file is malicious and that Chrome has blocked it. What should I do?
Also, I checked the forum link you sent me. Found this link for my model (C6903). The newest ftf file I can download from there is 14.4.A.0.108. But after googling I found that this site can provide me the .157 (14.4.A.0.157) version. Would you recommend me to download that build version instead?
By the way, do I need to remove the SD card before I flash (and later on root) my Xperia Z1?
Best regards,

That is a chrome secutiy thingy, you can disable it somewhere in settings.
You can download any build version you want i don't know which is best for z1 actually. You may want to backup your internal storage. External should be fine.

Alright. So do you know why Chrome says it's malicious?
And one last question before I'm ready: By saying "you may want to backup your internal storage" do you mean I should backup the entire stock ROM or just personal files I want to keep?

No, I haven't. I installed the drivers needed from the installer program that was found in the "drivers" folder in the flashtool program folder.

I'm still stuck with the error message "Processing of loader.sin finished with errors". After googling it I can see that message has showed up to a lot of people. And unfortunately neither I nor people on the google results can find a clear fix to the error...
Yee-haw! I'm happy to announce that I have successfully flashed KitKat 4.4.4 my lovely Xperia Z1!
I even managed to succeed on my first attempt today! It was very easy to solve the problem: I deleted the ftf file from my computer and then I re-downloaded it
I think that the fact that I downloaded it from Mega instead of Google Drive might have played an important role, too
Wow, I've really missed KitKat - everything is so good-looking and it works like a charm! And the battery draining and temperature problems are gone!
@cimihendriks
Thanks a lot for your help!! You're awesome
One more thing: after that the flashing had finished and I was told to unplug the device there was a line in the Flashtool log saying "For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings". I didn't check those settings in my phone before I started the flashing procedure - should I be worried?
Glad it worked out for you! no, flashtool doesn't do stuff in android. flashmode and fastboot modes are seperate from system. don't get worried. Enjoy!
that's easy
i already do that ! 2day i have no prob i downgrade from 5.0.2 to 4.4.4 than to 4.3 than i back to 5.0.2 again

Im really sorry for posting this question, but im really really noob at this.
I Have a Xperia SP C5303 with stock Android 4.3 and 12.1.A.1.205 and bootloader locked.
My phone is getting extremely slow at everthing, all applications take huge time to load, sometimes even crash, i cleared all cache on applications, even deleted all my messages (1.5years) and nothing worked. Started in safe mode and its pretty fast.
Im tempted to update my SP to a custom rom 4.4.x or even 5.xx .....but i really dont know nothing about it. Dont know how should i proceed and what steps should i take to backup and prevent any problem in case of something goes wrong.
I already used the "towelroot" and installed SuperSU from google playstore and it says its rooted, but already read somewhere that towelroot doesnt actually really root.
I really really appreciate a huge help on this if possible.
Thank you very much.

first of all (search for doing this !! )
take a TA partition backup and then unlock your bootloader .....then install the recoveries on the stock ROM>>then replay to me after that
Ok. Thank you.

I think unlocking your bootloader resets everything so backup your apps for re installation once your are done.
I unlocked my bootloader the good old fashioned way via fastboot :
1 - Check if unlocking possible by typing *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialer and going into Service info > Configuration.
2 - If it says something like Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes then its unlockable. If its already unlocked, it will say something along those line as well.
If neither option appears then it isn't unlockable.
3 - Get the unlock code from Sony after filling the necessary details along with the IMEI no. of the phone.
3 - Open command prompt in the adb & flashboot folder by holding Shift + right click and selecting the "open command window here" option.
4 - Type fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version to check if device is connected properly.
5 - Type fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY. Repalce KEY with the code that was received from Sony and hit Enter.
Alternatively the BLU option in FlashTool can be used to simplify things as it automates most of the above procedure. It can also be used to relock your bootloader.
There's also a new app called Kingo SONY Bootloader Unlock that apparently unlocks your bootloader with one click. Check it out.
I was doing that at the moment. Im using Fastboot also ....since i didnt find other ways
Already made a copy of everthing i can remember and used Titan backup also.
My phone says "Bootloader unlock allowed : no" , but im still trying doing all the thing....i read somewhere that sometimes works.
At the moment im stuck in connecting the phone in the computer with volume up ...and testing the fastboot getvar version to check if the phone is connected....but stays there....waiting for device...and nothing ...

If it says no then dunno what the chances of success are.
Came across this Youtube tutorial : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li8Eim6gugw
Don't know how legit it is since its been posted a few months back and there are no comments at all so please proceed with caution and of course don't blame me if you brick your device
Also did you try the Kingo unlock app I mentioned?
Nothing works...cant really connect in Fastboot mode...i tried everthing...even in 3 diferent computers...nothing works.
Dont know if "bootloader unlock allowed : no" means that i cannot enter in fastboot mode....or if im doing something wrong...
Just install some 4.4.4 lbl build, for example cm11 by mateo337 is really good and even up-to-date.
You will not be able to unlock the boot loader i had XSP that said no and i was not able to do anything about it.
Dont use 5.x.x builds, they are really outdated and have a lot of bugs.
So, then i suppose the next step its to install a LBL Recovery? So i can boot in recovery to flash the custom rom....right?

No you should still be able to enter fastboot mode. Are you using the latest version of FlashTool and have you installed all 3 required drivers? Does your phone show up in device manager when you connect it in fast boot mode?
I am not sure abt the last 2 procedures I posted but the first 2 require your phone to boot into fastboot and stay there till the job's done.

Yeah. Since your phone's rooted now, you can follow a LBL procedure for flashing a custom recovery to allow you to install custom ROMs.

Is there anyone have the latest version of s1tool? (not the 2015)
my phone is in bricked mode (error flashing partition.sin using flashtool), now it is in SOMC Flash Device. using the 2015 version of S1tool tells me that my device is not supported. my phone is on the late-2016 line.
if there's no recent version of s1tool, can you guys tell me the alternative ways to unbrick my phone? (can't send the phone to sony, warrantly expired a long long time ago, can't afford to buy a solder station, box)
thanks. i would gladly donate some money to those who successfully helped me to unbrick my phone. i can't afford another one for now. ?
S2tool, what model?
Uh, i think there is more recent software such as S2tool. Look it up; you also don't state the model of phone so it's hard to provide help.
502so but it has f8131 rom. tried to downgrade to it's factory rom. error at flashtool flashing my created ftf, at partition.sin. now my phone won't boot again.

hardbrick to me. flashmode doesn't work anymore. fastboot still can boot. but it's useless anyway. all flashing/ unlock commands just give me "command not allowed" error. if i ground one of the pins of the phone and disconnect the battery before i connect it to pc, i got SOMC Flash Device in Device Manager. Tried faking it as Qualcomm HS USB Loader 9008 and get QFIL to read partition table. No response and then timeout error. S1tool 19V2015 version (this is the latest i could find on google) just gives me "HARDWARE NOT SUPPORTED" error.
Yeah, I don't think s1tool is compatible with that boad (X performace); try SETool2 ( https://files.setool.net/support/SETool2/ ) & read ( https://support.setool.net/showthread.php?3-UPDATES-AND-NEWS/page666 ).

no, my bootloader is locked. obviously came from softbank japan. checked it too before flashing.
EDIT:- if i can even use setool, holding down the volume down button while connecting to the computer just end up with blinking green led light on my xperia. the computer doesn't detect it. when i use testpoints, the computer detects as SOMC Flash Device. here's what i did so far to attempt flash using testpoints
1) flashtool method:- not working. mtp error. shows message like "for 2011 device line, make sure to turn off mtp". i can't even boot my phone to go to settings to turn off that thing
2) emma method:- not working. doesn't detect anything
3) s1tool method:- hardware not supported error
4) setool2 using the link you've provided:- smartcard not found. i don't have and can't even afford the box.
5) qfil method:- faked the somc flash device as qualcomm hs usb loader 9008. doesn't work. timeout error.
* before i see the somc flash device, the computer detects it as QUSB_BULK
* i will probably donate some money to someone who can bring my phone back to life again
Try what I posted in the previous reply ( https://mega.nz/folder/s5knUKJa#JFUJb-9-AJr27vTl_MJ9GQ ). There are other scripts you might of missed. I don't see how a smartcard device is needed, though I could be wrong. That should be the correct software to fix boot and unbrick your device. There might be a post on the many pages of the forum that provides SE2Tool to help you find the solution. Are you sure you have the right points, when the light stops blinking that is your indication the board has been put into flash mode. You might have to pack the boot partition into a different format (.ftf) to get it to flash with the software ( https://sony.yt/topic/5324-s1tool-t...l-xperia-qsd8250-msm7227-msm8255-smartphones/ ). Was able to unbrick a docomo Z1C with the suggested method. When you do accomplish the task, write a tutorial for other's.

Write who provided the software on the SE2Tool forum and ask if you are using it correctly; I'm pretty sure you don't need a device to run it and the software should suffice for what you need it to do.
