Got a sim free o2x and immediately upgraded it to gingerbread using LG's tool.
I have noticed that the performance degrades over time especially noticable with scrolling web pages and youtube.
From a clean boot, i fire up youtube and can watch big bug bunny in 1080p full screen and very smooth. When I come back to it a few days lastr, the same video stutters and the audio also skips. I can create this effect a lot quicker by playing something with the built in video player. After having played a video on SD card, i go back to youtube and its a stutter show again.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this using standard gingerbread on the O2x? I'v tried killing various apps and uninstalling others but nothing very scientific and the only way I can get back to normal performance if with a reboot. Any help gratefully appreciated!
Sounds to me like the ram is busy. Just try an app that cleans up the ram.
Stock kernel has bug in memory management. Solution is to flash for example Spica's kernel, latest r11-c is very very good.
Evidently that supposes to root - instal clockwork mod recovery first.

I have a problem with Spica's kernel , I think that it doesnt support netfilter (iptables) thus I cant use Droidwall, any solution?
Thanks
Instal iptables from market?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mgranja.iptables
Edit: the app says that iptables is already installed in kernel, not in the latest version but present. That's perhaps the problem. Only thing is to ask Spica to update to last version.
Ohhhh, i will check it later! thanks!!!
Have tried some RAM clean up apps, unfortunately it makes no difference. The amount of RAM free seemed to make no difference, i had it running smoothly with 82mb free and stuttering with over 100mb ram. If something like this was happening on my linux box I would assume something is hogging the cpu but the apps i have tried seem to indicate nothing is consuming a lot of cpu resources.
I don't want to consider reflashing with another ROM if I can avoid it. Is there anything else I could try?
Kernel problem. Read above.

Reboot your dam phone then.... pcs also get laggy when they have been on for a long time, so reboot and or flash a decent kernel.
Use stock kernel\rom from 20o
I have the same problem. After about 36 hours, the phone becomes laggy. It lags when waking up the screen, it lags in menus, etc so i have to reboot it every 36 hours or so.
Speaking of kernels and roms, i've tried them all by now. From CM7 (which i could not get along with, functionality wise) to Topogigi, spica, Thanatos, carburano, gueste and erestor.
I am now on gueste 2.1 stable SR1 and the problem persists.
After about 16 hours wake-up and the lockscreen lags, after about 24 hours scrolling becomes choppy, after 36 hours dialer, contacts and other apps start slowly and lag big time.
This is the same behaviour in all roms and kernels tried (except CM7 which is a no go for me).
L.E.:
Of course, rebooting solves the problem for the next 20 hours or so, but its quite inconvenient.

Hi all,
Has anyone seen a gb rom that plays or can be tweaked to play video past the 70min mark? This is a rather big thing for me, as I often take trips and like to watch movies on the plane.
I've been able to get CM6.1 and most 2.2 roms going with collin_ph's battery tweak that enables the stagefright audio. However, this doesn't seem to work with any gb rom I've tried:
CM7
aospCMod
OMGB
Deck
Evervolve
And I really like these gb roms...esp aospCMod!
Any help is greatly appreciated!
are you talking about your battery just dieing or it literally wont go past 70 minutes ive never had that issue when i was on the hero.
Are you talking about your screen freezing? Most gb roms (CM7 specifically) always had minor media issues for me. Music, videos, Pandora app etc. all freeze or skip after a while. Try using that new Wildheroc sense rom, I've had much better media performance from it versus CM7
Sent from my wildheroc using XDA Premium App
to fix the freezing just set your cpu to anything over 352 low.
This is the issue with videos over 70 mins where the video freezes and the sound keeps playing. After a while the video jumps back to about the 10-15 minute mark, but the sound is still off from where the video is.
It was discussed briefly in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864403 for a while starting at #14691, but I never saw a resolution.
This was fixed in 2.2 with the enable stagefright fix in collin_ph's battery tweak, and you could evidently do it manually by altering the stagefright line in build.prop, but when I looked at the build.prop on a couple of GB roms there was no line, and inserting a line brought no joy.
I was just wondering if anyone knew of anything, I've been searching for days and days and actually see very little on this issue. Guess not everyone watches full-length movies like me.

I actually had mine set at 352 ondemand, to help with the camera issues, but it never helped long video playback. Thanks though!

Yeah, I tried Wildheroc out for a while, but I just love the simplicity of Aosp and my LPP. I may try going back to sense though cause this is just that important to me. If I do, I may throw down on the v6 supercharger tweaks and see how that does.
Hey everyone
Just a simple question; Is the following setup safe for my galaxy s i9000? What I mean is, will the phone face bootloops and other problems soon?? I am currently using it and the performance is....well lets just say unrealistic. Phone boots up and is ready go in less than 15 seconds. The reason why I am paranoid is because im coming from the stock 2.2 Froyo and the performance gain really is unbelievable.
Setup is:
- Stock XXJVT odex
- Dark Core kernel 4.1 for JVT (It has some lagfix activated or something)
- Adernaline Shot v13
- Current governor (through setCPU): Ondemand -> As recommended by Adernaline Shot thread.
I wouldn't worry to much. The performance gain from Froyo Stock to JVT is really impressive!
I had a pretty similar setup for some time at it was running very well. Some random reboots may occur as with all firmwares (Stock and cutom) I have tried before.
Also, I overclocked it to 1,3Ghz with no loss of stability.
Have fun.
Nice and clean setup. You should not face any problem.
Hello!
Just reporting back on this setup....
The performance really is amazing. Phone runs very fast, apps load and close instantly, no heating issues, browsing is incredible, and not to mention this voodoo sound thing that turned the speakers into boom boxes, and massively improved in-call sound and volume. I haven't had any random bootups yet.
However, the only grudge I have is, and hopefully u guys can help me out, that the GPS signal quality is very lame with Google Maps. Also, Google Maps is VERY laggy, sometimes impossible to use because I can't even scroll around or zoom-in/out because it goes down to like 3 fps. It is just shocking that heavy 3D games can be played for an hour without any stuttering or slowing down, yet Google's own application Google Maps barely runs.
I would really appreciate it if you guys can help me out

Lol ya after doing some searching I found that this is a pretty common problem. However, its not the GPS locking that is bothering me; The Google Maps app itself is VERY laggy, im currently on version 6.0.0 and it is unusable for me. Scrolling around and zooming in/out is like 2 frames per second. Do you know why that would be?
Hi everyone
Recently, i've updated my i9000 from cm9 to cm10. But i found it a little bit laggy, there is too much data run in the background and my phone can't just handel it. Some app don't work anymore (i have some message after an unsuccefull update saying "out of memory").
Do i have to wait for further updates or should i go back to the latest CM9 ?
PS: Is there any tips to prevent the shuting down signal problem with the i9000 ?
Hey,
I've had the same feeling about CM10 being laggy on my I9000. Hopefully it's just another bug.
And it is a well known issue that some apps aren't still running yet.
I went back to CM9.1 which runs really smooth. I'm gonna wait for a CM10 stable version and check if it's still laggy.

Yust move apps to SD, CM10 has a new partition layout.. That solve the problem of low space
Try elitemovil rc12.1 which is faster and smooter than stock sgs3
GT-I9000 cihazımdan Tapatalk 2 ile gönderildi
You should try the new nightlies, hardly any lag at all.
All jellybean roms get laggy no matter what you do, I tried most of the JB roms and I used HellyBean for a while with super launcher (a custom supercharge for galaxy s) and it kept working fine because somehow by flashing a new rom version often the phone would stay fine (wasn't just wipe cache and dalvik)
But I'm now back to ICS because even if most of the time the phone is doing fine, when you need it the most it starts failing even overclocked at 1.4 and with performance mode and swap, so I will wait 11 days and buy the nexus 4 !
Jelly bean runs fine on my phone to be honest. No lag or nothing. Only ROM that's ever lagged is hellybean.

My experience is the exact same as the one you quoted.
I believe the clue to having a stable jb is to avoid most of the non-vanilla settings. I.e people come in various jb threads claiming bugs and unstability, while having oced, deep idle, custom kernels with experimental settings, not having wiped, flashed the wrong package - lots of issues that are experimental and not stock and stable.
The question of what is stable is relative, but I'm convinced that the ability to read, knowledge, proper flashing and simple logic would help avoid 9 out of 10 "unstable" jellybean experiences.
I am aware this might come over as a bit condescending, and I guess that's partially true, but it's not directed at any particular person here.

people, CM10 is the best. I've never had such a great rom, I mean, the SGS I is old, but with CM10, oh boy... I've never had such a good battery life, such a smooth rom, and non laggy ( helly bean was a disaster, it lagged a lot and very few updates).
Well, here is my settings:
-> CM10 latest nightly
-> JB hugemem patch (391mb ram and 720p recording still working)
-> Rom Slimmer
-> Semaphore kernel 2.5.0s:
.......- oc 1140 MHz
.......- SIO
.......- Smartassv2

i cant believe that so many ppl are busting HB.
laggy disaster?
first of all, HB is a CM10 too.
and beside this HB isnt laggy!
sometimes it depends on the phone, cos a SGS1 is not a SGS1. so many differences available...
best is, just try some JB ROMs and decide for urself!
I never had problems with CM10 . Run smooth .
I think is the best ROM i had experienced on my SGSI .
I installed slimbean (cm10 based) recently on my i9000m and its a tad laggy when I am pushing it but overall its better than the last stock GB rom that I had been on for a long time (got tired flashing this and that). And its stable too. Overall the switch has been nice, for the main reason that I have less of a desire for the SGS 3 (hey there's always the 4 one day right?)
My experience with cm10.1 has been roller coaster. To day it is fast and smooth but yesterday it is leggy and gets stuck. I frequently get popups of applications not responding etc. The i click wait and it gets done.
Before you throw me with rotten tomatoes let me give you the steps that i followed.
Got a brand new i9000 from from a warranty claim a month ago.
Flashed cm10.1 nightly using Cwm after having to work around a few bugs with the new heimdall program not being compatible. But with CWM on I no longer needed the pc.
Download a nightly (26 Feb)
So did a factory reset and wiped everything. Flashed cm10.1 nightly again just to make sure. Then loaded a modem that seems to work for my area. The modem is a XXJVR and is a ICS modem. then flashed Google app for jb 4. 2.2.
Rebooted and logged in. Restored all my sms using sms+ backup and restore
Installed all my preferred application from play Store.
It started nice but soon became slow and large.
So I updated to 10.1m2. Same problem.
At this moment it is workable. It takes about 6 counts to respond to changing from portrait to landscape. If i turn it one the home screen takes about 2 counts to get updated and responsive.
Holding the home button gives you the recent application list. It takes about 2 counts to respond with a vibration and then 2 to 3 more counts before the menu pops up and the list of recent applications have been populate. I don't know if this is normal but 5 counts feels forever when you decide to do something and need to wait for the system to be ready.
I am not over clocking and I am running no custom kernels.
The notification bar at first comes down in jumps. If i do it again it is smooth.
But the biggest frustration is typing. The lag between presses and haptic feedback seems to be random. It is always under a half a second but when you want to type you never know if it got the press or not. Just as you think you need go repress the letter updates.
Battery life is also erratic. Yesterday the phone was uncomfortable hot in my pocket all day. Battery did not make 14h. Today it is cool and it is at 73 % for 9h.
The main battery life is taken by android OS and screen. Not calls or any of the chat apps that I use. Yesterday Android OS took half my battery life.
Going to apps the zoom is jumpy and sliding jumps. If i do it again it is smooth.
And today is a good day.
Any suggestions what I can do to improve the performance? Except getting a new phone.
H
I don't think I can quite relate to that, my phone runs CM10.1 quite well...
Had to be said though that I can feel my phone struggles running it, pushing the limits pretty hard.
My phone has the slow RAM, unfortunately, I'm sure a lot of the people posting stories of glory are ones with the faster version.
That said, I could never in a million years go back to an earlier version, I know my phones limits and work around them without too much trouble, mainly browsing (using Chrome) is the one thing my phone struggles with.
But regarding your erratic phone behavior, have you installed a startup manager and better battery stats?
Android battery stats doesn't always do a very good job of reporting exactly what apps or background processes are draining over time...

It been quite some time now, but have you been able to fix your erratic behaviour? Cause I'm experiencing something similar.
I tried Slim JB & Fishears Rom so far. Right after flashing, without any apps, the roms seem to be running smooth but Slim JB soon became laggy so I tried out Fishears Rom which seemed to behave smoothly even after installing some apps.
But after several month of usage the system slowed down almost as much as it was with Slim JB.
As both of them are based on CM I guess it's a general problem that the SGS 1 just can't handle the new Rom + big amout of apps. Sometimes it runs relatively smooth if I cleared RAM etc and didn't start any apps, but as soon as I for example listen to music in the background everything just becomes laggy :-/
I guess after 3 years my SGS1 is just too old now^^

Hi. No I gave up. My first SGS1 was amazing and did not behave like this. I think it had faster ram. Due to some issue it was replaced under warranty. The replacement looks the same but it is very frustrating. I am running stock rom now 2.3.4 with almost nothing installed. But it find that it is a pain. Calling takes long to actuality start to dial. The screens are smooth but when you do things. Like flip between apps or go to dialler it is almost unusable.
I think Samsung release more expensive variations in the beginning and then keep the look the same but drop the cost of the handset to the end.

hay all i searched the forum and the net to find if anyone is having the same issue but didnt find anyway,
i've tried several kitkat roms with several versions they are all great roms but for me i had experienced a common bug between them ,sometimes the phone gets heat up and the battery drains very fast i open the cpu monitor and find that there is a process ( not a specific one ) using 50% of the cpu till the battery die , it doesnt get killed when i kill it the only solution is by restarting the phone
it happens randomly not always sometimes daily sometimes every 2 or more days sometimes several times a day.
i use xposed with all the roms i tried .
dont know if it is familiar with anyone here but i hope someone could help Thanx

The VERY common n MOST probable cause of battery drain in all current KK roms is: GOOGLE +
Delete or deactivate it (preferably just delete it) and try again.
The 2nd Most probable would be media scanner, go to advanced setting and then turn media scan off.

Yes I experienced the same with KitKat CM11. Mine was plain CM, no Google Apps so no Google+. I have also tried the last "stable" CM (10.1.3 I think) and that also converted my Note into a hand warmer. Like you I had to power down, I couldn't kill the problem processes and it wasn't always the same process.
The problems with the Exynos based devices is documented on xda at great length. Unfortunately some people gloss over or fail to mention this when promoting various ROMs. The CM devs quit supporting these devices because it's not possible to do it as well as they would like (thanks to Samsung being indifferent or unsupportive, not any failure or unwillingness by the CM and community devs). You aren't going to get a ROM that works as well as stock. You can get ROMs that do some stuff better or have a newer version of this or that or have some very attractive UI but there are major issues such as overheating, less good video and audio codec support on the device DSP (try some HD movies with ac3 or dts audio and you will know!) and the external SD card spontaneously unmounting (possibly this is causing the runaway processes as well as the more obvious sudden stops in file transfers and music playback when using the extra card).
Omnirom is the only GT-N7000 ROM I tried that didn't overheat or have runaway processes and kill the battery life and it also has a very professional feel. I also noticed that scrolling and page rendering in Firefox was much better in Omnirom, almost as good as stock Samsung. However I ran into some other issues (some mentioned above) so I have switched back to Samsung's 4.1.2. I don't need Kitkat but if I did I would probably choose Omnirom, but actually the stock Samsung firmware has been smoothest and has by far the best battery life in my experience - just use the built-in "Power saving mode", job done. The ability to disable apps in the stock firmware is perfectly good enough to disable any of the so-called bloatware or even all the Google services and apps. If you like to disable so much stuff that your Note breaks then root it and install something like Performance Control and you can freeze anything you like and make yourself a nice boot loop
If you just want a bit more control over your device you can root it without flashing any ROM or custom kernel by using method 1B* as described at forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360 There is no need to flash a "safe" kernel, that advice is for older android versions and is totally redundant for 4.1.2.
*short version:
Reboot into recovery, install Root_SuperSu 0.95
Boot. Run Supersu, update it.
Reboot into recovery, install Root_busybox *.zip
All done.
It's rock solid stable, has great battery life, supports all audio and video codecs, doesn't get hot, runs smooth, lets you be in control.
thanx for giving ur time ... to be honest i installed TW 4.1.2 before at first it ran smooth but after a while it starts to get laggy alot even with root and with bloatware removed and so .but in kitkat roms its alot smoother the only problem is theon i mentioned i will try as u guys said ill disable google+ and see if it helps . thanx for u all again

@julian67
Hei julian, 1st of all thank you for providing useful and educating informations. Typing them sure took much of your time n it's greatly appreciated. But if I may add a bit of opinion, those problems mentioned mostly come with the newer version of KK like 4.4.3 n 4.4.4's. In 4.4.2, those problems mentioned rarely happened unless of course u have google + enabled. The most irritating bug is just how music player stopped suddenly after playing for sometime (times variable to each person's device) n only rebooting can solve it. Lots of advices states that formatting to ex-fat could solve the problem (unproven by me, haven't tried it). With regards of HD movies I also haven't tried as I only watch 480 p movies in my phone, save more memory storage means more movies to watch. A good example other than omnirom as u stated would be C-Rom 4.4.2 vers. I use it for almost 3 months n music player bug is the only thing that crazes me. Anyway thanks again.

Hello,
For the last 6 months or so, I've experienced many lag issues with my device. At the begging, I had a CM11 ROM installed on my phone, so I decided to revert back to the V20B official european firmware because I thought those lags were related to the ROM. But nothing changed, and as of today I still have responsiveness issues.
This lag issue appears from time to time, and makes my device basically unusable. It feels like the whole CPU is hogged by an application, or like I underclocked my device to 53mhz on purpose. During these lags, trying to wake up my device will take up to 5 seconds, and navigating the main screen will be nearly impossible. Also, my phone will get very hot which would imply that my CPU is indeed used by an application. Sometime the issue will disappear by itself after a few minutes, but I usually reboot the device which temporarily fixes the problem.
I have tried to disable LG MLT, and I think it helped but the lag still occasionally occurs.
I don't really use third party applications either.
I think these lags might be related to the Google Chrome browser, but it doesn't make any sense as it is an official app.
Anyway if any of you have an idea on how to fix the issue or how to find the application/service/whatever hogging the CPU I'd be grateful
Thanks !
I did experience such lags in CM11 after a few days of usage. But talking about stock, these freezes sound bit weird. You might want to check your installed apps.Download watchdog lite from play store and let it watch on agressive mode. Also check if your phone is hot when these freezes occur, might be the throttling kicking in.
I also experienced this kind of lags due to bad gapps I had installed back in the day, though stock ROM comes with gapps so it's not that.
Thanks for your reply,
I installed Watch dog lite and I'm now waiting for an alert. I hope it will give me the name of the culprit
If you are rooted which i assume you are. You can try app from playstore called "lagfix" (fstrim)
Sometimes really helps. Sometimes it doesn't
