I can't seem to get full desktop views of web sites on my 8.9. I've tried the about:debug settings tweak on the stock browser, made sure desktop is selected in the Dolphin HD settings - I still keep on defaulting to mobile sites in both browsers. Can't figure out what the issue is.
Anyone had this problem and/or know a fix?
Thanks!
Hi,
I have the 8.9 and was able to use the following with 100% success.
1. Open the Android Honeycomb browser on your tablet.
2. In the address bar, type: about:debug and press enter.
3. Now open the browser's settings by tapping the icon in the very top-right corner of your screen (it looks like four horizontal lines) and selecting "Settings" from the drop-down menu that appears.
4. On the left side of the screen, tap the section labeled "Debug."
5. On the right side of the screen, tap the item labeled "UAString," then select "Desktop."
6. Press the back button (in the very bottom-left corner of your screen) to exit the browser's settings.
7. In the browser's address bar, type: about:debug once more; this will disable debugging mode and return the browser to its normal state. [Optional] If you do this step you will need to redo this step every time to enable Desktop Browsing.
By the way, which version of the 8.9 do you have? I have the 7310, also known as the 16GB WIFI version.
Thanks dornier, but that's exactly what I did and it's not working for some reason.

as far as I know the 8.9 doesn't come with 3.2 out of the box, except for the LTE version.
Do you have the LTE version?
Also go to this site and paste here what is your user agent using the stock browser:
http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
Yes, I I've got the AT&T LTE model.
Currently, my stock browser user agent setting is set to desktop (via the about:debug trick) and the user agent text from the above link reads:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_3; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16
Does this shed any light on my issue?
Thanks for the help!

Works fine here as well except that some sites still detect its android and force a mobile view.
Is there any way to make debug mode permanent?
As it is you have to enable debug mode any time the browser gets fully restarted.

Some websites I visit using the honeycomb browser identify the nook as a mobile device and, thus, launch a mobile page. Is there a work around for this? I could have sworn there used to be a setting in froyo but I can't even find it on my phone now so I have no idea where that was before.
Thanks!
tried this but it didn't seem to change anything:
to change the user agent to desktop in the stock browser, type this in the address bar:
about:debug

debug may not be part of the preview sdk
Use an alternate browser for desktop mode until the full 3.0 AOSP is available
about:debug does work. type it in the address bar, hit enter and it opens up a debug section in the settings menu. from there you can change your user agent setting to desktop

figured it out!! i thought an actual debug screen was supposed to pop up so assumed it didn't work. re-read what you said, went into settings, and there it was! nice! thanks!
Two things on the stock browser:
A: it does have a memory leak, be forewarned, I found it using 175Mb of ram sometimes.
Do enable the edge screen controls, that is something I bet apple is kicking themselves over, that is awesome.

Hey there,
My HTC Desire had the option where I could turn off Mobile View and get the pages shown just like I would had I sat at home from my PC. But is that option not available on the 2x? . I generally detest using mobil view and prefer the full on view at any given time.
But so far I am at a loss in regards to finding that setting on the LG Optimus 2x, considering its not a browser setting that I can select or change. But has anyone stumbled over this and found a working solution?
You should be able to do this with hidden menu, and or with another browser.

If you write about:debug in the address bar, press go, and then go to the browser settings, the UAstring option should now be available.

I tried that one and it didn't work. Some mobile sites still threw me to their mobile view edition when I used that. But apparently using HiddenMenu and setting it to Mozilla changed the issue entirely
Correction,
Neither HiddenMenu NOR about:debug will allow me to view sites like Engadget in their normal editions, but forces their mobile view on me with no way to change
And Mozilla for Android still throws me to the same site.
Use Dolphin HD.
If its another browser then I am not really interested :/. I would prefer a solution that works with the native android browser. HTC could make such a setting which WORKED. Im baffled why LG opted to keep that setting out.

I totally agree with out. However, using another browser is the fastest solution right now.
Setting the user agent to desktop in the standard browser using about:debug should work but does not always as you experienced.
I just don't see how it will work in another browser when both the Native one, as well as Mozilla Firefox web both fails with a bang?

Doesn't work either, even if different UaStrings set through its settings . WHY oh LG WHY have you messed it up so that we can't watch webpages like we can do at home instead of being forced to watch mobile view >_<
So far the only solution is to basically visit the sites, and try to find the "link" on site to change it from mobile view to regular view and hope its saved in a cookie so it keeps the setting :/
Dude wuts the problem install dolphin or skyfire and change the view to pc,profit??? I mean seriously...

Read my post thank you!!.
As previously stated I have already tried installing Dolphin as well as Firefox. Tried every sodding profile there was, Android, iPhone, Desktop etc and NONE of these made Mobile view vanish.
Even tried about:debug as well as HiddenMenu and those don't do the trick for me either.
The ONLY thing that seems to work is going to the sites and manually clicking that I want the regular site. But then its not the browser doing anything, its cookies that does the talking which somewhat defeats the purpose. I mean on my HTC it was a simple checkmark I had to remove and it just worked. On my LG it seems like its an insurmountable feat to actually get regular PC view and get rid of mobile view the "right way"

I cant's say I disagree with that. It makes no sense to be honest, ie why it wont work on some LG's and how HTC has been able to make a "switch" for it that actually works and doesn't require you to do the cookie route.
yeap,
I've test too and Mobile View can't is disabled but some website check is the visitor send WAP information, and with the debug mode, some WAP information from the Browser are sended...
I chatted with LG Support Germany 5 minutes ago and asked about this issue and the supporter confirmed this problem and there's no general workaround right now but the issue is know and already reported...as he said.

Good news
I couldn't get Firefox 4 to show up in the app market, but it seems to load fine as an apk. You can get it here:
ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/4.0/android-r7/multi/
Does not show in the market app but does in the web market
Installed perfectly from the web market send to my gtab, which is exactly the opposite of how most of the other apps work for me.
I tried that, but the market doesn't see my gtab as a device to send to, unfortunately.
Its a nice browser but needs flash support to be great. Unless I'm missing something.

Nope you are not,
No flash, FC's on swiftkey, and a few more bugs. My chief reason for it being on my gtab is SYNC.
no flash. but it supports adblock addon. Hope the flash is coming
I never thought to look on the Mozilla FTP server for that browser. Nice find.
It at least gives me something new to tinker with.
...and once you have it...

Thanks! That was annoying me too. Another setting I changed is the "keyword.URL", which defaulted to Google's mobile search. The full version is better for tablets imo, so I changed the /m? to /search?

You can "pull" the website to the left or right and tool bars appear on the sides. The right side has your bookmark, fwd, and back buttons. The left side has your tabs.
Wow, just used the google print cloud add on and was able to print a web page from the firefox browser to my hp2600n network printer. My Gtab is getting better.
Works on my HTC Incredible too. Thanks
The graphics look horrible to me when I go to websites using FF4. I open the same site in Dolphin or the others the graphics on a website look decent, but in FF they look bad. I have not been able to find anything in the config that controls the compression or graphics.
I set up my gtab as a new device from my desktop (sync). I don't see my saved tabs in the tabs on my gtab. any ideas?
Good start for FireFox & I'm sure it will get better as time comes along, but for me I'll wait till it gets better.
Currently I use only 2 browsers: Opera & Angel browser, with Angel browser being one of my favorites (for the time being).
I like the fact that you can type in a custom user agent, I set mine to Chrome Desktop & it works perfect. Tested on Hulu using the Flash Mod & it works fine as well.

As far as I can tell the stock browser on the Thrill has no ui option to change the user agent. I recommend 'xscope browser' from the market. Its pretty close to the stock browser visually and has the ua change option to view the pages as android, desktop, and can even change to fake the ua of the iphone. There are a ton of browser apps available in the market and most have this function built in. Thats just the one I personally recommend.
Of course if you insist on using the stock browser then this will be of no use to you

"Any Cut" is a program used for making shortcuts. You would search market for "Any Cut" then open it up, choose new shortcut, then activity, then change uastring. I haven't tried don't know if it will work or not but if you want desktop change the uastring to firefox's uastring. Either that or follow what aria was saying and get another browser. I use opera MOBILE not MINI and it has an option in settings/advanced to change from mobile and desktop, opera mobile works great and will give you full web browsing. It's nice having a full browser, I hate videos on youtube being "not available on mobile"
Thanks guys I'll give this stuff a better look when I get home later today
