Wind LG Optimus 2X Gingerbread Upgrading. - LG Optimus 2x

I had not choice but to sign up and ask because no matter how hard I search I get conflicting info and not any really basic how to instructions about how to upgrade my Wind Mobile LG Optimus 2X phone to Ginderbread OS.
I must be a dam noob.
Is there any basic step by step instructions on how I can upgrade or at least find the place to look. I found the sticky but its all over the place and can't find some real instruction.
ht..tp://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/LG_Optimus_2X:_Full_Update_Guide[/url]
can i use this guide??
Any help would be much appreciated. I feel like a dummy not being able to figure this **** out.

I dont think that there is any difference between a Wind Mobile 2X and any other 2X device. So you can upgrade your 2x like any other. But you should inform yourself before doing so.

jes the more i read the more im lost .

i assume the first thing i hav eto do is root my phone. is supeoneclick ok to use??

The Wind Optimus 2X is actually the G2X... be careful. Don't try flashing any rooms you see here in this forum go to the G2X one

ICS Updated release schedule
For what its worth, I just talked to an LG Canada rep and asked about the gingerbread update for Wind mobile and was informed that ICS will be released in august or september.
Mike P: Hello, ws. Can I help you with anything today?
ws: Hi, just wondering if there is a an android gingerbread update available for the optimus 2x from wind mobile available yet.
Mike P: Unfortunately not at the moment.
ws: any idea when?
Mike P: Broadly speaking, the ICS OS upgrade will be available on LG’s upgradable smart phones starting from the second or third quarter of 2012. The detailed schedule and relevant models will be determined based on discussions with the carriers in each market.
ws: will it be ota or upgradeable through the website?
Mike P: Yes, via our mobile support tool.
ws: so the update to ics will be in august or september for the 2x?
Mike P: That's correct

I really wonder if any Optimus 2X will actually get ICS. I think that they are having problems with the NVIDIA SOC Tegra 2 driver compatibility with ICS and that the phone only has 512 MB of system memory available. I hope I'm wrong but the lack of specific ICS update plans for the Optimus 2X makes me wonder.

Gingerbread is coming!!

LG Optimus 2X: Now available (as of 1st November, 2011) for open models in Europe
LG Optimus 3D: Week commencing November 21st for open models in Europe
LG Optimus Black: Week commencing November 28th for open models in Europe

Again, LG greatly appreciates the support and feedback that customers have given during the upgrade delay, and we will do our utmost to continually provide better service in the future.
Thank you very much.
This is awesome news.
It is good news but theres really no mention on when the US version is getting the update. So i wouldnt get too excited seeing how we could still be waiting till next year
I am not above flashing a Euro ROM. Plus once its out it should be easy to build a more US ROM for us to flash.
Yeah I mean we will at least have the gingerbread source even if there is no US modem.
Really? Are you kidding me? We have to wait another month + for ours to get it?
IMO, unacceptable. I will probably have a new phone in my hands by then.
What LG should do is like Samsung, leak the pre-release and let us help you test it. Have a group of beta testers work out the bugs for you and please us at the same time.
Would be a win win.
I agree with you. They must leak the the beta release and we could do the fine tunning...
I'm sure this will get ported pretty fast to our device. We are running the identical hardware the only difference is the radio. This is great news. Stay positive. Yes, LG is lagging on this update but honestly no other phone configured like ours.

The US release will be delayed regardless due to freaking AT&T Having to put all their Crap Bloatware in there before they release it. But like yall said I am not above putting the Euro Version and or Ported version on.
I wonder when or if we'll see ICS.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but ICS was developed specifically for the TI OMAP architecture. So its not a question of if, but when.

I'm going to ask very noob like question here, and im on the go right now otherwise I'd try to research it myself. This is my first android device, so why is 2.2 to 2.3 so special? With the existence of 3.0 out and 4.0 soon, what's so great about 2.3?
the smaller updates to android were very important. the jump between 2.2-2.3 is like the difference between iOS 3- iOS 4.

Again, can't trust these LG people. No matter whatever happens, it's for sure that we wont get this thing.
Just call/email local LG support, and ask about update, because GT540 is in OPTIMUS serie. If say, no, we dont get official 2.3, ask why LG lie in press announcement. Please reply.
Hope out phone also will get this update
Edit : Mail Sent to LG Customer Care Post here once i get reply
Some folks here at XDA had mailed LG people a few days back regarding GB update. But neither of the replies were positive. Never mind, I've mailed them now, waiting for a reply.

Our phones should have been updated like a year ago with 2.3 and with .37 kernel, but LG Support is a piece of junk. I like LG phones but they f*ck their own reputation by doing this. (or by not doing anything.)

I emailed LG about 2 weeks ago, and you can guess the answer...
I think the ultimate solution is that all of us MUST become HARDCORE devs, so we can maintain our phones easily
i hope they update the kernel of our phone for better roms
I'm 100% sure, we wont receive update to 2.3
Theres GT540 and theres Optimus line, even if our phone called GT540 Optimus, i dosnt belong to Real optimus line, like GW620.
According to LG our phone specs are too low to even support Froyo.

According to LG, Optimus serie get Gingerbread update. GT540 is in that.
You people don't get the picture, do you? First off, yes, GT540 is part of the Optimus line - no problem there. However, in what universe does that mean LG's *bound* to update ALL the devices in the Optimus line? The GT540 is practically ancient with the amount of RAM it has, and we're talking about an operating system that has a requirement (in LG's words) of 1Ghz processor frequency(I strongly disagree). Read here. OK, yes, we've seen GB running on our platform fine and speedy, no argument there. But wait, there's more, and I'm probably saying this for the millionth time: LG would have hardly any or no profit from updating the GT540. This would make it buyable, and competitive on the market again, but wait.. see, the GT540 is a cheap handset, and updating it, that's right, would cost money. Also, shipping new units with GB... also costs money, and all that for what - a cheap(okay, "hardly profitable") phone that can also steal attention away from other handsets in the Optimus line(and not only). LG has already filled Swift's niche with the new Optimus Net, won't be such a good idea to draw attention from that now, right? The same goes for the Optimus Black, Optimus 3D, etc. It's simple when you think about it, so don't get all too excited y'all.
And? Your picture say, no optimus line GB update. New announce say, Optimus line GB update...
LG never released updates. This is a fact. Lg and Google promised to give updates for devices which good hardware.these are the optimus speed and black and 3d. Gt540 has bad hardware and LG wants to update the whole series of optimus devices? I don't believe that. But if they really do it would give us new dimensions of modding especially a new full working kernel is needed.. Let's hope even if its nearly impossible to believe

Im not so optimistic as you guys, im more like realistic about this whole thing... Just wait for response from costumer service, you will see it by yourself guys :/
This has been talked about like thausand times... Service guys said like million times, they will never gonna update gt540 to froyo or gb, due to its hardware limitations and becouse the phone is out of market long ago..
And im with GT540 pretty much from the very start... July 2010, i watched as the phone developing progressed, been on modaco forums when they opened thread about our phona was one of the first contributors named 'ilovelg' i think i made whole reference thread about rom flashing with kdz
By the way only High end devices were listed, too bad tho, couse most similar to our hardware phone LG Optimus P500 have Gingerbread for quite a long time already And our oldy dont even have a froyo, and never will, nor Gingerbread

Ok I have said this before and I don't mind getting banned for valgur language. If you check the LG site the gt540 can no longer be found there even in the optimus seris and older phones like cookie are still there(tells u something) next some time before September I sent my phone in for Warrenty cus the screen broke. When I collected the phone and asked them if they still sold extra battery's they said no as they stopped making parts for my phone.(tells u something again) well I am lucky I managed tobuy one in the end at the LG HQ in Singapore and they said it'd was the last one.... so u know what ?? F*Ck LG f*ck LG devs f*ck the company_|_ I'll never buy from them again
Next stop HTC when I need a new phone
I'm agree with nutterbg, there is no significant advantage for LQ by updating our device.
LQ will gain more profit if GT540 users retire their phones and buy the new 'LG' ones. The same thing or at least close is happened to Samsung Galaxy Spica. Samsung released new models instead of providing further updates for Spica.

V21a available for LPP 920

I was just looking over the available firmwares and noticed the following are now available in the Euro Open
LGP920 has V21a available now
and
LGP990 has V20i available
I was surprised to see the LGP920 further along on the development path.
I know this is an LGP970 forum but I just thought it was interesting

Surprising if you're not following developments. This was announced, O3D and O2X Gingerbread FW is now available in EU. P970 will get Gingerbread on 28th. This is old news.
Sorry, I guess I was not more clear. I was surprised that the 920 was so far ahead of the 990 and the 970 was lagging so much.

They are flagships (dual core). And p970 is single core. They (LG) would update them first. O3D is OMAP, and O2X is Tegra based. Even CM has an incomplete port of O2X concerning hardware acceleration (drivers). Nvidia is the one making it dfficult for O2X.
What's your point?

LG Android 4.0 upgrades Optimus 2X in Q2 2012

Anyone wanna guess the delay duration?
LG plans to begin upgrading its portfolio of Android handsets to Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of next year, the company has just announced. Among the first phones to benefit from Android 4.0 will be the Optimus 2X, which launched as the world's first dual-core smartphone earlier this year, the recent Optimus LTE, and the upcoming Prada Phone. They'll be followed by the Optimus 3D, Optimus Black, Optimus Big, and a couple of other handsets in Q3 of 2012. Not exactly the most aggressive rollout roadmap in the world, but we'd rather see the ICS upgrade happen later than never.
Importantly, LG continues to make no mention of the American variants of these phones — such as the T-Mobile G2x or the AT&T Thrill 4G and Nitro HD — what their fate will be remains to be seen.

Nice.. hopefully LG won't just keep pushing the dates further as they did for gingerbread.
Good news, screw the american versions, they need to be updated by their carriers anyway.
Just wish nvidia would released their crap so the dev community can make a decent ICS release NOAW.
Q2...yes...
BUT Q2 for LG's calendar, not the Gregorian calendar.
finally, i hope so, it wouldnt late Q3.
From LG Mobile facebook page:
During the second quarter of 2012 upgrades will begin for the following smartphone models: the LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse. These upgrades will be followed by upgrades for the following smartphone models during the third quarter of 2012: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.

Q2 ends in late june, maybe that's when we'll get it.

I seriously doubt cm is going to release ICS for us untill its already out.
Maybe yes, maybe now. It can be the same situation as with Gingerbread. CM was provided before the official release.
The situation might be worse since we need LG for the camera and Nvidia source (or binaries that help... not 100% sure on that). An LG leaked build may help to a very limited extent. Until then it's just a waiting game.

Hello!
Yes, Jelly Bean will be most probably out by then and the next generation Google phone with it...
I am confident that the Cyanogenmod Team will be faster than LG and ICS/CM9 will be released by Q2/2012
I am also sure that LG will release its ICS build no earlier than late Q3 to Q4/2012 – but I would be very happy if I am wrong and LG can pull its stuff together and get ICS out as announced…
But all of this is of course IMHO.
that's very cute, I'll expect the ics update by December again

The source for their development platforms (e.g. Tegra 2's Harmony and Ventana along with whatever else they came up with.). O2X has slightly different hardware but this will be a lot better than the nothing Nvidia has provided so far. Though, given the lack of camera, even on OMAP platforms (TI released source), it looks like camera and maybe a few other things could ultimately be up to LG. Let's hope they leak something early. =P

What's your point? The P970 is a different phone and has a different ICS release date, they don't share the same ROM.
The OB has a TI OMAP 3630 chip while the 2x has a Tegra2 one - thus they need totally different drivers etc.
I'm pretty sure that we will get an ICS upgrade but I highly doubt that LG can keep the Q2 timeframe
Personally I would bet for ~November (which would be Q4, yes).
Anyways since last few days LG has stopped releasing further GB updates if they're working on ICS then its good, it will be wonderfull if LG releases ICS leaks along with most importantly ICS kernel sources.which could bring next one big missing theme HW accelaration!
