Does the ICS beta roms have the same battery discharge as gb - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious if anyone is running a ICS beta or RC and how the charge issue is with gb Samsung screwed up to save the battery and never held 100% when charged over night I am hoping that be ICS is built from source or cm9 that this issue is fix I hate waking up to 70% battery after unplugging from charger over night.
Thanks

From the little i used the earlier versions,i didn't see the charge bug. You should try one of the i897gb leaks. They also don't have the charge bug. The kk4 builds are very stable.

Thanks I'm running Saurom 2.3.6 I9000 with the cappy fix kernel I have always run an I9000 rom since froyo as i get much faster internet speeds with hspda and hsuda with the I897 roms I only get 3g speeds. I live with the GB battery "feature" from Samsung for the better speed was just hoping ICS would not have that "feature"

You know I9000 modems only have better upload. I897 modems do get HSDPA just not HSUPA. In my experience I897 leaks have great battery life. ICS's don't have as good imo.

Thanks I will try ICS 4.0.3 if anything goes wrong or I don't like it I can always flash back to my rom will make nandroid backup and copy to my computer in case I want to flash back. I flashed to the 1st beta but had issues on my part had to flash back to gb stick then nandroid restore as ICS uses a different file system type.

Right now I'm at 16% with 32 hrs of moderate use on the 1st battery cycle.

There is no charge "issue", and in fact I've never heard of that or experienced it. The battery life on teamhacksungs ICS has greatly improved since it first came out

Don't worry too much about the percentages reported by the phone, even if they drop quickly or are very low. The phone is only guessing the percentage based on battery stats it collects. I've had my reported battery percentage drop like a rock at first, then slow down quite a bit at very low percentages, resulting in reasonable usable battery life even as the phone warned me to plug in the charger.
The closest thing to a real test is to let the battery discharge until the phone shuts itself off.

Thanks I'm going to try to find extra time today to flash my phone

Well I flashed back to my Gb rom had issues with 4.0.3 source after reboot. Loved the rom fixed the buttons titanium restored my app was very happy until reboot it kept hanging on kernel screen let sit 30 min on that screen no go. Had to cwm wipe cache and factory to reinstall a kernel but then lost my data and apps rebooted with not restoring same issue any ideas why. Thanks

Compared to stock or say Cyanogen mod i would say its alot better. Compared to MIUI I would say its about the same.

MIUI and CM7 are the same ROM, MIUI is themed. That is the only difference, no battery differences!

^this. Battery difference felt is modem & kernel combination. Thats it.

[Q] Longest battery life ROM?

Hi,
I'm looking for a FroYo 2.2.1 custom ROM which has the longest battery life.
I'm currently using CyanogenMilestone and I can't use my phone during a full day (even in sleep mode).
I don't care about smoothness or anything else.
Which one is the best?
- The FroyoMOD
- Cyanogen Milestone
- Milestone MIUI
- other?
Has anyone tried The FroyoMOD and/or Milestone MIUI and can tell me how many days it lasted?
Thanks.
the best is
motofroyo sense but it bit sluggish
then MIUI
then others like froyo mod n hono froyo
Cronos lasts for a day and a half maybe... I would consider it Cyan-lite hahaha
Honestly though, the eclair mods are much better on battery life. I run TelusLite V5 and I get around 50 - 60 hours on normal use.
Hi. As you said you're running custom 2.2.1. You did reboot after charging (no matter of power or usb)? The 2.2.1 kernel has a bug that prevents it going into the sleep correctly. This can be avoided with rebooting after disconnecting from charger.

Didn't know that.
Thanks guys, I'll try MotoFroyo Sense and MIUI and then I'll let you know.

Battery drain on MIUI 5.2

Hi guys, I've flashed MIUI 5.2 yesterday and I didn't have time to play around with it. But I've noticed today that even when left idle, the battery drops from 100 to 84 in about 2 hours or so. All the other services are off except 3g. Plus when I fiddle around with it, the battery drop is even more noticeable. I went from darky 10.1-Miui5.2, just fyi with the default kernels on the miui page. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Miui is to heavy
If u want longer life then Miui aint for u.
Miui is by far the best rom for galaxy s ever if u like to be able to change every aspect of ur phone but the more a rom can do the more juice it takes.
If u want more life and less tweakeblity then u need to use pony roms like darky or ultimate aso.
Edit : Miui bat life is slowly increased by each release (5.2 is way better then 4.1)
Yeah I've noticed that. I switched back to Darky, happy to see 16hours of battery life again. But I wouldn't hesitate to go back to miui in the future though, provided the battery life increases. Or at least until juicedefender has some effect on it

flashing from stock to MIUI is a painful process and it reflects on the phone too !!
after such a vigorous beating from ODIN and Recovery flashing, the phones battery needs time to settle,
Do the battery calibration a few times, generally the battery will settle after a week, Until then its hard to judge battery life, albeit it is definitely less than a stock ROM, But some MIUI users report 1 day, some report short of 3 days..
so dont give up just yet

wow 3 days? imma try it again then, right after my battery finishes charging. what kernel do you think is the most ideal one to use? i live in the uk
Edit: I saw a guy getting 14% loss after 12 hours using JXJV6. Isn't JXJV6 a modem for the middle east? Is it possible for me to use it here in the uk?

im not sure about that modem, but i dont see why it wont work, i use at the moment ZSJV5 - i am in the uk too, that modem works fine for me .
As for the kernel, the latest Glitch V10 is good enough, you could also maybe undervolt and underclock just a little, this would increase battery life too.
but 2 -3 full cycle charges really makes a huge difference.
Awesome, I'll try that soon. Mind sharing the link for ZSJV5? And the app for undervolt and underclocking?
Edit: It seems that I have the insufficient storage space bug, I've read the faqs,
1.3 Apps not installing - Not enough memory message pop up (Known bug for CM7/MIUI)
1. (Using root explorer or any equivalent app) Delete folder /data/data
2. Copy "folder" /datadata to /data/
3. Change name of folder /data/datadata to /data/data/
But it still doesnt work. If I reboot, I have to go through the setup wizard again, and rootexplorer will be uninstalled. Any idea how to fix this as well?

[Q] Re: i9000 based GB ROM charging bug

Quick question on the charging bug seen intermittently on most/all i9000 GB ROMs:
If I primarily just swap to a fully charged battery when one is low versus charging the phone via USB, is this an issue that could be of concern to me?
TIA as I'm itching to migrate to 2.3 and trying to weigh pros/cons of each GB ROM.

The symptoms I am seeing are; charge the battery overnight on wall charger, take off @100%, within minutes it drops to 80%.
I have tried recalibration procedures, switching kernels, switching batteries, wifi on and off, etc but the symptom is still there.
I have yet to see a cause identified.
The initial 20% drain is rapid, the remaining charge disapates slowly so it may not be an issue for you if you don't mind swapping batteries and you have a spare charger.
Lol if you're not charging the battery in the phone how can the charging bug in the phone's software effect you??
Plus that is a very chancy bug anyway. I personally have only experienced it once. Been on gb since it first leaked.
The lowest I've gotten after disconnecting the charger is 90%, which still sucks. Can anyone using atomic fusion reproduce it?

[Q] My galaxy tab wont boot if not connected to the charger when battery is below 70%

PLEASE HELP ME. . . .My galaxy tab wont boot if not connected to the charger when battery is below 70%, this happened after i flushed my gtab from stock froyo to overcome icarus, i follwed strictly what was written on the overcome guide. . . Now my tab is running on overcome jupiter hoping to fixed the problem, but still no go. . . . What should i do? It boots when i connect it in the charger though, and everything is fine and working
Charge it to 100%, reboot into CwM, go to wipe menu and wipe battery stats. Hopefully that will fix it.
EDIT keep the tab in the wall socket at all times.
Ive already done it, i even turned off my tab while charging up to 100% then boot into CwM and wipe battery stats. . . But its no go. . . Does my problem involves with battery itself? Because it seems to work fine when it is connected to the charger. . . Though i havent experienced it when im in the stock froyo. . . Mr. Pal, do you think i can still fixed it without replacing the battery or removing the battery?
I was thinking that stock froyo has different voltage requirement compared to gingerbread and my battery could not give enough power to power up the tab when battery level is below 70% unless it is connected to the charger
It seems as a battery issue. Tell you what, restock with v5 and you will get pure stock. See if the issue is fixed. If its not REMAIN on stock and send it back for warranty. They will do it for free since its stock pure unrooted firmware.
Wow. . . Now thats a brilliant idea, maybe i should try first the stock gingerbread. . . And see if this will solve the problem. . . And if this solves the problem would you think that i can still be able to install overcome into my device?
As soon as i got home from the office thats the first thing that i will do, restock my tab. . . Haaaysss another work for me here. . .
Stock safe v5 is a plain stock gingerbread.

I just thinking the same solution while reading this treat. You should go back to the right path each time you lost your way,,lol
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Restocking my gtab to gingerbread v5 had partially solve my problem. . . Now i can get 70% DOD (depth of discharge) but, when the battery reached 30% it suddenly turned off, and again, could not boot without being connected to the charger,
As for now im planning to recondition the battery by charging it off to 100% and drain it again, maybe a couple of this cycle would enhance the battery and slowly i could get a better DOD, I just hope so...
By the way, did you guys think that i could still flash overcome into my device after this battery reconditioning? Or am i stucked in this stock gingerbread?
If you can solve your battery issue. In thoery there wont be a reason not to flash overcome. You would be good to go.
thanks Mr. Pal, by the way, is Overcome power requirements is different from stock GB? i was just wondering why my tab doesn't boot on overcome while it does in stock GB at below 70% batt
Well Alterbridge86 tried to UV the internal voltages in the ICARUS build but that didn't go all too well so we are back to the old values. If anything overcome has a lesser power requirements than stock as the LCD and memory are UV so actually your tab theoretically should better on overcome than in stock.
Please keep me posted with how things work out for you. You got me interested
Now that's strange... i was just thinking that overcome has more power requirement compared to stock, anyways i will keep you informed in this issue.... as of now my tab is running smoothly on stock gingerbread, battery is 78% as of now... will try to drain it more to see if i can go lower than 30%... will update you later.
Thanks again Mr. Pal, you really helped me here a lot!!!

[Q] Battery life has gone down the drain, plus lots of bugs. WHY?

I've had my captivate for over a year now, with mixed results.
Honestly i love the phone, and if i could work out my issues, probably can go another year without having to get a new phone.
My biggest problems are the battery, and the bugs.
When i bought my phone my battery life was ok. When i finally put a custom rom on and re-calibrated my battery, i would go as far as to say it was pretty good. (I even have a screen shot from the good ol days when i would go to work, and come home, and it would say something like - unplugged for 11 hours, and i would be at ~70 percent)
Now on an average day, i leave for work at about 630 and when i get out at 2 its usually down to 20-30 percent. I actually own 2 captivates and its the same case with both of them.
I dont understand what is different now from before. Ive actually tried the old roms which i got such good battery life from (serendipty 6.2 i think, and cognition) and still its terrible now.
I have recently used apex, cyanogenmod, miui, GR12, and maybe a few other, all with terrible battery and bugs.
Thats the next issue, the bugs are getting to a point where the phone is almost unusuable.
Many times google voice has just failed on me. Ill get out of work and see no texts, my data will work, so i figured theres no problem, but then ill restart my phone and everything will come in.
Im currently using apex, so thats my biggest problem with bugs, but cyanogenmod/miui were really bad.
Then theres the ugly, which is when my battery goes in super drain mode. Itll go down 1 percent every 2-3 mins sometimes, and the only way to halt the super drain is to plug it in for a few mins
I dont get what the difference is from then to now, but i was wondering if anyone else experiences these issues.
Maybe its the way im flashing or something, i dont really know anymore.
Any suggestions?
Have you seen which process/app is eating your battery? Could possibly be an app from market causing this
what is it you need from a custom rom? i've found i get the best battery life and stability from stock samsung roms, ie KH3. CM7 was wiped about 15 minutes after flashing.. it seems very experimental on the captivate, definitely no way i'd be able to use that as a daily rom
I had the same issue when i was using CM7. more battery drain on standby. Now i m using KH3, there is no battery drain on standby.
Try KH3 based ROM, if you are losing battery on standby
Well havent tried a KH3 rom yet, but i think apex is js7 based, which is an official rom.
I agree CM7 was very buggy, but ive seen the same with apex.
Honestly I used to get awesome battery life with cognition, and i reflashed that same rom, and now it sucks.
The only apps i have installed are:
adobe reader
beautiful widgets
colornote
docs 2 go
google voice
maps
pandora
screenshot
titanioum backup
zeam launcher
My biggest reasons for using a custom rom are:
tethering
adblocking
not as laggy (RFS)
screenshots
maybe a few more
I would glady give it up though if i could get some good battery life, and no bugs.
Am i better off just going back to stock jf6 and letting my phone update automatically?
Or should i try out a kh3 based rom? or just KH3 Stock?
i'm getting the best battery life from kh3. js7 is an i9000 rom that is not specifically optimized for the captivate so it may not be as good as kh3. regarding reasons for custom roms, i have all of that (except RFS) on the stock rom using these apps: adfree, screenshot er, open garden wifi tether -- all work great
Js7 is froyo.
apex is jvr gingerbread.
Both I9000 firmware.
Idk what you mean by "optimized for our device" but let me just say from personal experience that porting I9000, we don't just grab a firmware and theme it. There is coding to make it work. Plus I9000 has this thing called SOURCE CODE so that you can have a much more customizable kernel, instead of the time it takes to reverse engineer a kernel and then try to add things to it.
All in all custom roms will always be better than stock, because they take stock and improve on it. Also there is no such thing as bug free as every one uses their phone differently with different apps that may effect the phone in odd ways. You will have to just experiment and see what works best for you and your phone.

i don't see how a modified i9000 (J**) rom/kernel could ever have better battery life or general stability than a stock K** rom on the captivate. the way i look at it, there is a great value in having root on the phone, but not so much in having a custom rom. i just haven't stumbled on any rom that will give me a better experience than stock while at the same time keep the battery life. i've tried quite a few.
this is coming from a standpoint where battery life and stability are a priority
