[Q] [I9001]BroodROM, Cranium or official ROM? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys! I'm new here in this forums and I'm buying my new SGS+ in a couple of weeks. I can see there aren't that many ROMS and custom firmwares, but the ones that exist are very good! I want to know if the official ROMS are fast and good for everyday usage, gaming and listening to music. I know that the custom ROMs like Cranium and BroodRom are super fast, but I always prefer official firmware. Please express your opinion and give me a suggestion. I have experience with flashing a SGS+, so it's not a problem for me.

Well, these custom ROMs are in fact just modded stock ROMs. So you can get some added AOSP apps and removed bloatware. CM development is really difficult as some devs already bricked their phones.
I personally wouldn't buy it again.
It's a quite decent phone but nothing special imo.

I know they're just soft-mods, but people say they're faster than official ROMs, because they contain some tweaks.

Yes, thats right. If you have some knowledge you could also tweak the stock ROM yourself as you like it. (Apart from things like CWM recovery etc.)
If you don't need all those Samsung bloatware then you could flash one of the ROMs you like.

Thank you all for your opinions! I had a very positive experience with one of your ROMs, so I think I will go for BroodROM.

BroodROM RC2 with the Cranium Kernel v6 1900MHz
That way you can overclock as you wish with the "no frills cpu control" app and set governors + i/o scheduler.
At least thats what i have on my SGS+ and i'm very happy with it
here's a benchmark screenshot of mine

Hi Senior Member xCi, this is my first Time, and i think i should be needing a help. i have already bought my samsung sgs+ a couple of weeks ago. and after that i've playin games , browsing , used my phoneetc. i've seen that sgs+ still slow on cpu, gpu and when i play hd games its getting hot in a 30 minutes after. but not like the old samsung galaxy s i9000 which is very slow and very hot when i play games like nfs shift. so i figured out that i wanted to upgrade/update it but there's no officially released update for sgs+ in my software update (Over In The Air) and in kies. but didnt do something and after that i've been thinking and began searching xda developers. and saw many development were created such as the tweaks (awesome), custom roms ( like Cranium Rc9 I've Watched It on Youtube/ BroodRom Here) i was really inspired and been thinking if i can do it alone (im so scared besides this my first time) so i can update my phone into more poweful tweaks like cranium rc9 or BroodRom and other tweaks mods for my sgs+. im starting and im a begginer and i really need help, sorry if im being noob or kinda stupid (〒︿〒) i was really confused when i was reading this post by Artem Russakovskii http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...d-phone-with-rom-manager-full-backup-restore/ he says that other customs roms have different installing procedure. can i apply sakindia's cranium rc9 following the steps of Artem. Besides I've Already Done The Rooting Procedure At forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001 For My Samsung Galaxy S+ I9001. this is my first time but before i start doing something on my my phone i should ask someone like you who can give me a better advices and other tips in things like this.
-----------------------------------------------------------I Was Hoping I Can Find a Better & Clear Instruction's Installing Cranium Rc9 + Rc9 Kernel OR BroodRom + Cranium Kernel v6 1900MHz for my SGS+ I9001 From You DEVs! Out There . because my phone still lags and very hot when i played HD games and sometimes slow on menu when i quit some hd games. [Q] (SGSi9000)What is the best froyo firmware and custom ROM to go with it (fastest)?

please help ive got JPC with rombie rom and i have to restart my samsung galaxy s i9000 like every day to to lag and fc.
I've tried several and this is the best for me.
This doesn't want to be in the development thread.....
I always ended up back on the doc's rom after trying others..
Use Voodoo 5 with any froyo rom and the phone will fly. Roms and tweaks are not making big differeces in speed. Only with lagfix you can feel the differnce and one of the easiest and fastest is Voodoo 5.
Any of DocRambone's bare-bones Rom with ULK kernel. All kernel tweaks on, JFS + EXT2 binds no journaling.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
CyanogenMod 6.1 BETA2... Fastest ROM and nicest to use, unfortunately takes a huge chunk of functionality away while the ROM developers are cleaning up Samsung's messy programming.
Once it's a Release Candidate stage, I think this will be the way to go. They also might be able to get Gingerbread out faster than Samsung. Here's hoping.
i guess for a normal phone user(not like me or many ppl here), want the phone work as a phone should, go for doc's jpo v8 plus hardcore's k10X kernel with gps fix, you can't be wrong.
usze nany rom, especially doc's 9.01 and then flash the YA-OK kernel.
very stable very fast and smooth.
lagfix EXT4/EXT2 no binds.
you will have at least 2100 quadrant.
In fact I just flashed with KIES froyo, then added root, and clockwork, and then the kernel.
using launcher pro (purchased) I added the DENA v2 theme and it looks very nice.

Hey m8, could you please be more specific which Rom you mean cause I can't find it. A link would be awesome.
Futhermore which laggfix do you mean with that? Is that the voodoo lagfix in the clockworkmod?

Also, this shouldn't be on the dev forum.
Questions like this should really not be posted in this section. There are enough threads on these kinds of questions. Please learn to use the search button and read before you post!

Rombie ROM v2
thanks for all your help and time.
This could be a very informative thread but IMHO, it needs to be limited to only what works with some caveats. This should be a thread about what works.
If your ROM is in beta - don't recommend it! If it crashing constantly or throwing up FCs, don't recommend it! If the GPS doesn't work, don't recommend it.
Quadrant scores mean nothing - when you got your phone, it worked but had some lag. Now, with Froyo, lag has virtually been eliminated. Even the ROM dev are saying you don't need a lagfix in many cases as their ROM is so smooth.
There are nothing but ROM junkies in the dev forum; I'm one of them - load it on the phone crash it, load it on the phone crash it! But I didn't do this on my girlfriend's phone because I didn't want her calling me to fix it. There are a lot of people tiring of this and just want it to work. I admit the wow factor is wearing off for me. I'm leaning towards finding what works but I need some adrenalin... Some caveats?
1) Phone - no crashing/restarting daily
2) FC - limited; these will always happen occassionally our computers
3) GPS - good signal and lock
Without lagfix, I can recommend:
Doc's rom: v9.0.1_BUJP8 - very smooth, no lag fix required (quadrant 900+)
Modem ZSJPE (Hong Kong release) - very quick to lock on, very accuarate
BTW, our company developes GPS software for golfers always testing this!
My need for speed tells me to test the lagfix. If this thread continues, I'll be back...

[Q] Looking for a recommended rom

hi
a question for the experts:
im looking for a recommended rom, as fast as possible, including lagfix if needed. Especially when having lots fo apps.
It just that i got this annoying lags on my current Rom, and sometimes i got an annoying delay when hitting an app buttons, up to 3-4 sec.
There are so many roms so i'm a bit lost, and will appreciate if you could help me get the best rom that i'm looking for.
And one more thing if possible: I prefer a detailed HowTo installation guide as possible...
Thanks
if you want to stay close to the base rom... try a deodexed base rom with a kernel supporting lagfix like darkcore..
or try this link (a list of custom roms)
alchemistar.blogspot.com/2010/10/samsung-galaxy-s-custom-roms-list-1014.html
Personally i tried (and adopted) GingerReal :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025348
Already fast with just this rom. and after activating the voodoo lagfix with cwm it's really fast.
I have a very goo user experience with this rom. (looking forward to V7 (JVQ) that should go out tonight)
Go out to dev and explore, matter of taste/how you use your phone/your preferences......and each rom will have detailed install instructions....if not then pick the dev up on it. You will get as many answers as there are roms with this kind of question, and if your answer is......i haven't got time.....then stay with stock as you won't have time to sort any subsequent problems!
Insanity cm017/glitch v10c
MIUI Galnet V3...give it a try, you won't be disappointed...
i have 2 options for you
1- i tried many roms and i realized that Darky rom is awesome in performance and the team is really cooperating , wait for Darky v.10.2 i expect it come out soon , it will be perfect rom
2- different and fast rom Galnet " make you own iphone look on android galaxy " bring all what you wish , but stil have few defects but they make weekly developing , and v3 will come out tonight
Or CM7 - fastest ROM beside MIUI.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
From my point of view, MIUI is really great in comparison to the original SGS mod. I'm using it and updating it every two weeks because of the updates it's providing us.
Well im usin F1 galaxy s2 rom it makes you feel like u are usin galaxy s2 and its fast without lagfix enabled.
My + its for Juwe's Smart Edition > v5.0 XXJVP .... Semaphore Kernel its in Rom and you can flash new v. with cwm ....
Rom its very stable , fast and very nice .... in my case - all works fine

I definitely recommend the Super Galaxy rom by socialsp!

Which ROM you use and why?

For me:
SAMSUNG GALAXY S i9000
Blockbuster 4.0 JVR Magnificent
GalaxianGT SP2 Kernel
FW: I9000XXJVR -> Android 2.3.4
and why? Because blacktheme in Blockbuster is good for battery life and galaxian kernel is one of the faster
I was on blockbuster and I also liked it because of the dark theme, but after I saw that CM switched to gingerbread bootloaders I gave first CM a try and was impressed, then I tried MIUI and it makes the SGS totally new, so I will stay with MIUI now, I have also a very black theme .
Juwes 5.2 JVQ with Semaphore 1.5 JVR at 1.2 GHz and GingerWay BlueOcean RC theme (The best theme around). So far the best of all the worlds.
Smooth Fast and Super-stable. No FCs what so ever. All apps are working as they should. Also I deleted some system apps to make it light.
Only one word for it.... Beautiful!!!!
MIUI
Galnet MIUI Couse its stable fast and extremly easy to theme'
I actually use DarkyROM, because of the theme, it's really nice!
Also like Symply GSII
So this thread will be to develop an all-hybrid rom , gathered sources from every other ROM out there?
seriously if you don't know where (more like how) to post on a forum, just don't.
I personally love the look of GalnetMIUI, and love the speed of Darky 10.2... but currently im JUST using a rooted copy of UGKG3 w/ TW4.5 by fragg0r. Simple, effective. And my battery life is insane. 24hrs later, 10% loss w/ some calling, a lot of texting, and listening to music.

I am not happy with the new ROMs that pop up on XDA. It seems like everyone makes a ROM because they can, and none offer anything exciting/new, barring a few of course. I'm on Simply Honey JVP ROM, but I'm looking for a suitable replacement.

DarkyROM 10.2 EE with Darkcore 2.9.3 kernel
Why1: because I wanted to start fresh and DarkyROM 10.2. EE had it all in one nice zip package bundled with Odin. The installation was pretty straightforward http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-darkyrom-10-2-resurrection-gt-i9000.4272/
Why2: because the official Cyanogenmod is still at RC for the SGS and its guides to install are not so user friendly. I followed http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide and to my stupidity I paid little attention to "This guide assumes the Samsung Galaxy S already has Android 2.2 installed on it" and flashed the wrong kernel and then did not have SGS booting for a while, freaking me out, until I installed an Android 2.3.x compatible bootloader.

Unfortunately there isnt a custom kernel that works with UGKG3, BUT when i use a custom rom i prefer Galaxian or simply just SpeedMod. I prefer those two because they have less issues when i use them, and they're stable and fast.

[Q] Rom with best battery performance?

Hey guys, i m new to your forum, so pls be nice to me :-D i just bought the i9001 for my girlfriend and i wanna flash a custom rom right away. My question now is, which rom is the most stable and offers the best battery performance? I dont wanna overclock it, since it seems to be fast enough, but as i already know from my lg device, is that battery is much better on cust roms. So i hope you can help me out and guide me the right direction. If you already have got a discussion thread about roms, pls guide me there, since i couldnt find it till now. Flashing and so on, seems far more complicated with samsung devices but i ll keep on reading, in order not to screw this beautiful device

Hi, try this UCM GingerBread Rom 2.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457437). I have installed it in my SGS+ yesterday. For now this ROM seems to be the best battery and performance combination.
best battery for me was stock rom 2.3.5
I think you will have as many answers as there's customs ROM fo GS2... I have my GS2 since few weeks only and I already tested 5 ROMS to assess which one is the best for my own usage (performance / quality / stability / battery life, etc).
So I think the ROM which has the best match for someone's usage will not be the same than for you.
So far if I could give you a reco it would be for Gingermod, CheckROM v6 or just Stock ROM + Siyha Kernel. But again take it only as my own view which can be different for someone else

He asks for a rom for the sgs+ not the sgs2.
I think it doesn't really matter which rom you take. It does matter what governor and which I/O scheduler you take! change them with no frills cpu controll for the market.
Oh thanks your right, thank all of you guys, I think i ll read some more and try to flash first, when i have enough knowledge about the phone. As far as i got, i first of all need to flash the cust recovery, then pick a rom and either flash it via recovery, or client on pc. Depending on the rom. But i guess i ll take the one from first post, since i only want it to improve battery life and not the overall performance, or even oc, since it is a good phone already ;-) again, thank all of you so far :-D
One more thing, whats the best governor and iosched for you? I prefere interactivex and simple, for battery

[Q] What is the best ROM for locked bootloader

Hello every one. I know my question is tiring and I know it may have been answered like a gazillion times before. But sadly I am not a regular here at the x8/w8 forums. Sorry my main forum is SE x10 and I know my way pretty well over there. But today my mother came into my room screaming that her x8 has become annoyingly laggy and often hangs up by itself etc etc.
So I thought that a custom ROM would give that old thing some more life to save me from the fatal nagging. But uppon searching your forums I saw that most ROMs require an unlocked bootloader which I cannot do because the x8 I am holding is 11W47 and I do not wish to take that risk.
So to make a long story short what is the best ROM available for x8 in locked bootloader mode?
I saw that many people say they use GingerDX but when I found GingerDX's thread I saw it now requries an unlocked bootloader and works on nAa kernel. Does it also work on stock kernel with locked bootloader or not? So if you could help me and shed some light cause I feel kinda lost and time is pressing...
Thanks in adavance,
best regards.
gingerdx still has stock version, iirc. check its dl page. also, yiu may want to go froyo for speed since your on stock kernel. in that case try froyopro or froyobread (i honestly prefer the latter).
Just because i don't doesn't mean i can't.
LOL..
I like your signature very much..
Please avoid these questions. Try some out for yourself, and decide. The reason behind this is not everyone uses their phone on a certain ROM in the same way. Therefore what one person likes may not be necessarily what you like, and at the end of the day you will have to resort to testing other ROMs. So yeah, asking this question is basically pointless, and not asking it can save space. But nevertheless, your signature amuses me too.
He won't have the time to test the ROMs properly because the phone is not his. Under other circumstances I would agree with you completely - some people are way too lazy to experiment.
That being said, I don't think you would be disappointed with any of the ROMs cascabel mentioned. All offer a fully working phone, they are very stable, and work great even with stock kernel. In my opinion, you need not look any further. Download any of them and you're done.
Well first of all thank you all for your replies.
Thanks @cascabel I found the GingerDX stock kernel version through their site. I have downloaded already and I will atempt a flash later this evenign.
Also I tried to find the FroyoBread as you instructed, I found the thread but the download links were broken. Uppon clicking they were leading to a custom .exe downloader which I suspect was malware or something. So if you have a working .zip of that ROM I would like to have a try as well. Nevermind found it through another post!
I also want to agree with @xWhiskey on that matter. I am not asking for the best ROM for me who I am very particular into what I need (e.g. multitasking, gaming experience and all that). I asked the for the best ROM in terms of stability and recomendation for every day use so that a 45yr old lady like my mother (whose phone I am holding atm) can use it without incidents.
I am not bored to experiment myself on my phone. I have changed almost every available ROM on my x10 but now time is limited cause I can't leave that woman without communication for days. That's why I asked for you suggestions.
Best regards again!
p.s. I love my signature too!
good to hear. hope your mom likes the rom you decide to flash on her phone.
Just because i don't doesn't mean i can't.
