I was wondering, what are the differences between these two ports. I just can't decide wich one to install. Wich one is better in your opinion? Thanks for reply!
Try both and keep the one you prefer
AFAIK, onecosmic's is a port of stock ICS. Team hacksung is an early build of CM9.
The CM9 version has more customizations. Toggles in the notification panel for instance.
I flashed build 11 on Saturday and then build 12 yesterday. 11 had some fc's but so far none on 12. Pretty smooth and most important things are working just fine.
The little things can be solved just by searching the thread in the dev forum.
It was a little finicky to flash the first time but just doing a straight flash to build 12 went without a hitch.
Sent from my GT - I9000M running Tornado JVR Gold with Tornado kernel.
I find the stock one (Onecosmic) smoother.
Onecosmic for me, although I didn't try other one so I should not say but what I have been using is good stuff
Teamhacksung's!
I think onecosmic's is smoother because it has no customization. I have tried both and keep switching between the two. Wifi does not work for me on onecosmic. Teamhacksung b12 is pretty smooth and has the notification toggle which I love so much

Teamhacksung! i'm using it and it's fabulous!
I think it's the best ICS ROM for the moment! (BUILD 12)
MyICS beta is just a modded Teamhacksung or is it another thing?
Teamhacksung looks like more modified ROM, because it based on CM. Onecosmic is more smooth so based on Stock ICS, but have an USB issue (as you can see on therad) however this is not a big deal so, you can easyle solve it.
But! If you using Simtoolkit based service, such as login to bank account via your mobile phone, mobile signature etc. you must away from Teamhacksung, so this ROM can't work with simtoolkit service like all of other CM ROM!!! And as i see developers don't interest this issue (i think they don't use it and so can't see this problem)...
In this time my perefer Onecosmic!

You can try to use JVT modem.. Infact i don't have any problem for wifi and other radio based features. But i know this issue, and this can be fixed with JVT (or any other nice modem).
I was using Teamhacksung on JVT rom.. But there was a problem - bugs regression. Also there is a huge list of `Known Issues`.
After using build 12 I have decided to get Onecosmic`s rom - and everything is just great ! It's smooth, no battery drains, etc.
RC 2.11 is just awesome and I`ll stay with this one.
Never tried teamhacksung's rom yet but i am pretty satisfied now with onecosmics port. its smooth and almost perfect and battery drain isn't a problem for me after 2 cycles of discharging and charging.
Teamhacksung great
Hi I tried already some of the ICS version but until now I''m preferring Teamhacksungs (build 12).
Works great, just 1 or 2 apps gives a restart when changing inside the app. Only negative here is the app ZDBox, the shortcut for on/off 3G doesn''t work.
Onecosmic's FTW! I'm a pure Android guy.

Onecosmics
NO force closes everything works
and great battery life i think it will last a week too like my jvt 2.3.6
also more brighness settings it can go darker then stock rom
and i think battery use is even better then stock 2.3.6
overall quicker then stock 2.3.6 especialy in games
i think Teamhacksung's port suits me...
I tried Onecosmic's release, and found it to have terrible battery life after 4 cycles. Was charging it twice a day to full, with only moderate use. Can expect this though from such an early development in a ROM.
onecosmic 2.11RC
i am currently on onecosmic RC2.11, earlier i was on teamhacksung 11, onecosmic RC1, 2.3.6 JW1...
The fixed issues are better in onecosmic thread, have not tested teamhacksung 12 ROM. The calender sync to facebook etc is still there in onecosmic.
the battery life was horrible, drained 35% with data and wifi off in wednesday night. but it was only 4% last night (thursday).
Had hiccups in playing angry birds seasons in JW1 ROM, but not much in onecosmic so far.
Would like to have notification toggle and %battery in status bar...
THANKS both the supermods for such wonderful ROMs of ICS for SGS.
I use the RC 2.1.5 version of MyICS. Although it still needs some fiddling arround to get everything to work I now believe it has come to a state that makes it very usable for day-2-day use indeed. I know for a fact that I'd definitely not want to go back to 2.3.x anymore.
The only thing I really don't like about it is the dodgy baked in Chinese launcher, but off course you can replace it. (It took me quite some effort to remove it though.)
The kernel that comes with it (NEO) seems stable and after 2 days I've not yet come across any stuff that's not working.
I've been using onecosmics and it's been pretty good, as mentioned it does have a couple of mounting issues.

hey guys, haven't touched my sgs1 in almost a year since I got my sgs2.. I'm currently on early 10.something, is darkyrom still the best? it gets pretty laugh.. have to restart it alot.. good battery life tho. so what's in top now, maybe cm7? Clare there different versions of cm7? (that has voodoo sound right?). anyone offer me a stable rom that won't run out of ram lol?
ill give thanks/rep to anyone who offers suggestions

There are quite a lot of ROMS to choose from. I have tried many of them myself, and am currently flicking between GALAXYDROID v 3.3 and SAUROM. I like the touches of galaxydroid yet like the stock feel of Saurom. I tried Darkys in many versions, and always found the battery life not too good.
Best way is to look at whats on offer, and give them all a bash. Each to their own end of the day.

My choice as well.
That depends on what your looking for cuz there is no such thing as a perfect rom...so there is jetpack which has great battery and you can check to my video review on it and the ics from team hackers is also good but not as stable as it is in beta still. hope i helped
My video is on youtube called jetpackmod review by bestnabil55
Which is the best ics rom now available, which have 720p recording, fm radio etc
After trying a couple of them, I am sticking to custom GB ROM (MIUI Mintberry) as stability and "everything works" is more important for me. Every ICS ROM I tried needed some or the other compromise to be made.
But to answer your question, I personally felt one by team ICSSGS was good though they have pulled their latest beta 4 due to issues. You could try DrZmiui if you like the MIUI interface.
MIUI is a very good ICS rom, but Mobile tethering doesnt work.
Anyone else who have this problem?
I am on ICSSGS RC4 . It works like a charm, wifi and usb tethering also.
I am still watching on battery usage, but seems to be as a Ginger Rom

Using Teamhacksungs CM9. But this ROM comes without FM Radio. but the adjustments in that ROM are very good.
ICSSGS supports FM Radio, so maybe you have a look at this one...

Yep I have already seen. But, luckily, I still have not any trouble with this ROM.
Hope they continue to develop it
well, that question that you asks us is hard to answer because it's different for every user.
Well, I like MIUI a lot so i've recently start using DrZmiui's ROM and it works like a charm. But heard a lot of good news about mintberry, so if you really want to know you've got to compare them and maybe install them all just once to compare.

I tried it today on MB and it worked 2 times out of 5. Switch WIFI on and try and off and try again did it.
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned cm9 yet. It works smoothly for me, but like all ICS roms, the lack of ram on the SGS causes minimised apps to occasionally close. That's pretty much the only weakness I see in the rom.

No, ICSSGS is an AOSP meaning "as google intended"
Im on CM9 and its a stable ROM, but there is no fmradio So you can try TEAMICS
does it have the power widget and ad hoc wifi support?
Also, I had earlier tried OneCosmic's build, currently using teamhacksung. So far I like teamhacksung build 15 barring some minor issues. like headphone icon doesn't appear, mic doesn't work, gps icon doesn't appaer in status bar, but it is in power widget, so not major issue. And now I noticed youtube app not playing anything, though browser is able to play.

Are these roms will receive updates to 4.0.4 ? (for nexus it's already out)
I used CM9 build 15, still alot not working and alot of FC's.
Went back to CM7, think they need a little bit more time to get the rom stable.
I am using ICSSGS RC3.1 for past two weeks still now I haven't faced any issues. Its a smooth ICS ROM.
Badly waiting for RC4, which they have pulled due to some serious WIFI/Data issues.
ICSSGS it certainly is.
I fully agree with devav, Team ICSSGS' rom's the best around for now ), even if it's RC3.1 (I'm too waiting for RC4). There you can find working 720p HD video @ 30fps that REALLY works (no stutter), panorama photography, face unlock, fully working hardware acceleration, music player, e-mail, Holo UI with all its eyecandy etc. (~98% of all rom is working).
NOTICE: ICS is a quite new OS which is primarily optimized for modern dual- or even quad-core processors and ~1024Mb RAM. So you have to get yourself an appkiller / any other RAM emptier + auto cache cleaner because of the ICS' memory-hunger. ICS can be a bit laggy when using stock 100/1000 clocks.
I highly recommend an OC with undervolting (to save juice).
My settings are:
GOV: smartass v2
MAX: 1200MHz (UV)
MIN: 400MHz (UV), and my battery lasts for 7-8 hours of moderate usage and my phone being able to run team ICSSGS' rom pretty flawlessly.
Hi all. I've got a SGS (I9000).
I need same advice: what Is the best ROM for me?
I usually use my smartphone to:
- send SMS;
- surf on internet (like Facebook);
- call samebody.
The battery life is VERY IMPORTANT!
Thanks ^^

Well i've been testing out lots and lots of roms and seems that ICS is the ones that saves battery the most and they run much smoother too. And stock browser runs much smoother on ics too... So i think ics is the way.. I'm just not sure what of them draws less battery life tough.
I'm using ICSSGS RC4.2 and with heavy use the battery seems to last pretty ok and that rom is almost perfect with almost everything working. Actually i think its the best ics rom today, tomorrow could be another rom But yeah it all depends what you use and like for your phone and for me its that one atm.
I've tried many many roms and all ICS-rom don't have good battery life.
My favorites:
- Amestris-roms
- SauRom
- JW1 with Tornado-kernel
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I agree, depending on what your looking for would determine the best rom for you. the best bet is just trying them and seeing which you like the best, truthfully a lot of the rom are hard to notice performance differences and many perform alike. If you are looking for the best battery life i would personally be looking back at some 2.2 and 2.3.x based roms. they have had the most time invested in them so far, and have not been completely ported.
a good webpage to check out roms is done by @AlChemistar at android candy and then find the device.
personally i have only experimented with 2.3.x based roms and ICS
for gingerbread i would recommend:
DarkysRom (10.2 Extreme)
Fl GS2
MIUI
For ICS:
TeamHacksung
OneCosmic
drZMIUIV4 beta 8.1
for a full list got to android candy. this is just what i prefer, and for making calls, texting and web browsing ICS is nicer but the interface for texting does lack. you may want tot check out theme available to take the white background back to the Samsung black for AMOLED screens.
yeah, i suggest the 2.3.x roms for battery life. they are way more matured than ICS per now.
i just installed ICSSGS RC4.2, and battery life is not good, ( i need to test different kernel).

From your post it sounds like we have similar phone useage. So far i've found team icssgs with semaphore 0.8.1 to have great lag free experience with good battery life. Fairly light useage as I use my tablet for most internet & games (wifi, 3g on only if i need it with several calls, sms's, some xda, facebook& g+) and i made just under 4 days down 10% battery or there about.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda premium
I think I also have the same usage (phone, text, and web), and I'm a bit disappointed with ICSSGS RC4.2 with semaphore kernel. But I have data always connected (and synchro on), and when I use my phone intensively for about one hour, I loose about 30% of battery life. I'm still looking for a rom with data always enabled, that I can use intensively for 2 hours per day, without charging it during the day.. If you know a rom like that (like galaxy nexus do, but for SGS), please let me know !!
hi guys
I'm finding it very confusing to figure out some stuff about the ICS ROMs. Unfortunately I don't have as much time as when I first started flashing to read *everything* about every ICS ROM. Specially since some of them don't mention the fact that they're actually ICS-based in the title for their development thread. I've also found some GB ROMs that use an ICS theme, so they place the ICS acronym in the thread title. Very confusing.
So I have 3 very concrete questions:
1. As with GB ROMS, are there MTP-based (i.e. Samsung ROM based) ROMS and AOSP-based ROMS (like CM)?
2. If yes. Can you mention one or 2 of each? If they're all AOSP, then ignore this here dumb question.
3. This is harder, but I'd like to know just in general, which ROMs seem to be among the favorites?
Thanks a lot guys, happy flashing.
Fairly new myself...
I think most of them are AOSP Roms - could be wrong though.
I have only tried two:
teamhacksung's CM9 ALPHA for Galaxy S: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593
Team ICSSGS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223
Personally, although I came from CM7 so I tried CM9 first. Moved to Team ICSGS pretty quickly though and found it to be awesome. I do miss some of the customisations you can do with CM Roms but I have found Team ICSSGS to be faster & more stable for my uses. I did try CM9 for a second time the other day as I had tried build 15 and they had build 16 but I still prefer Team ICSSGS so spent about an hour on CM9 and then switched back. CM9 just seemed way more laggy & I had a couple reboots & minor issues which I've never had on Team ICSSGS. (I don't overclock or anything...)
I'm also running the Semaphore 0.9.1 Kernel with the Team ICSSGS Rom which is awesome.
Semaphore: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468795
Not sure if that is what you want but those are the two I have tested.
There are also a lot of people that seem to like code name android & slim ics but can't recommend as I haven't tried them.
Hi, I too have tested CM9 teamhacksung's ICS with its build 15 and 16, before I had used CM7, now switched to Dark Knights ICS 4.0.4 just two days ago, it is ported from Galaxy Nexus and stable, everything working flawlessly, read through the opinions in its thread, I definitely recommend that rom.

Thanks, guys
This gives me a starting point to start reading.
I was wary of the CM version as it seems they focus too much on speed and sticking as close to aosp as possible, which is fine, but not at the expense of stability.
I think I'll start looking at the Dark Knight release.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
1st tried ICSSGS 4.2 which was excellent, very stable and no crashes, everything that I did juist worked, with the Semaphore kernel, it was very slick and fast as-well.
Just flashed Dark Knight 3 literally an hour a go, so cant give any report on that but so far so good, its very fast as-well.
Both are AOSP.
I flip flopped between hacksungs and ICSSGS, and stuck with ICSSGS. With 4.2 and Semaphore 0.9.1, phone runs like a dream. And everyday usage, for work, games, personal...it's amazing.
But...I get bored to easily, so I might try Dark Knight....
I flashed my first and only ICS rom last week - doc's master ICS V5 and have to say It's very fast and super smooth. I'm now using semaphore 1.9.1 and seems even better now too.
Switched from teamhacksung to Open Kang Project just yesterday.
You cant go wrong with both.
I really like the customization on Kang.
Will try Dark Knight and ICSSGS for sure in the near future.
I use ICSSGS 4.2 with Semaphore 0.9.0 kernel.
No FC's, no reboots, very fast.
I play Asphalt 6HD, PES12, Real Racing 2, Fifa12, NFS: Hot Pursuit, NOVA 2, DeepSpace without lag.
All other stuff work too. No WiFi problem, no Bluetooth problem... just perfect...
I definitely recommend that rom.
BTW. Team ICSSGS waiting now for AOSP 4.0.4. (4.0.3 mission completed, all works fine)
I eventually tried Dark knight. All I can say is WOW.
It has a few very minor bugs, but it's usable as hell, super fast (a bit snappier than CM7.1, in fact).
I had to flash it three times before the phone finally booted up correctly, and I restored my apps with no data (except a couple of them for which I need the data and have no backup mechanism of their own).
But...wow. Also, ICS looks really nice, it feels so much more polished.
At work they gave me an iPhone....it feels so simplistic and stale and boring. Only thing the iPhone 4S has it going for it is the damn screen which is gorgeous. And, obviously, it's faster than my trusty ol' SGS. But hell, ICS closed the gap in terms of polish and responsiveness with iOS. In terms of flexibility and usability, iOS was already behind.
I'm a happy camper.
AOKP build23 beta2.1 with the Party pack from GoyalBhuvan, which i really like it after Aokp milestone 4 from Open Kang Project is the best...! Without dudes Kang Project is rocking with the customization.
1) There are AOSP ICS roms and there are ports of Galaxy S2 Samsung ICS roms
2) Examples of AOSP based roms: CM9, teamicgs, AOKP
Examples of Samsung based roms: The apha ports of the Galaxy S2 rom
3) Currently, most people use cm9 or AOKP. While AOKP has more features and better hardware acceleration, I find cm9 to be more stable and less prone to force closes and reboots.

Same here, I've tried a bunch, and I keep going back to Slim, hands Down.
I'm using the Semaphore kernel tho. Not the Default one.
Dark Knight v3 has been excellent for me. In fact, it is the only ROM I've retained on my phone for more than a week.
I've been using it with different kernels and have found Glitch to be the smoothest but I faced some minor problems like Mobile Data not turning on after toggling Wi-Fi off. Devil Kernel is almost as smooth but seems more stable.
I tried updating to Dark Knight v4 yesterday with mixed results. A full wipe (data, cache, Dalvik) resulted in an extremely laggy phone. Any user input took up to 20 seconds to respond. I went back to my v3 backup and then tried flashing v4 again without a wipe and it worked much better. The phone felt incredibly smooth, even more than my brother's iPhone 4. I haven't come across any ROM that was this responsive to touch. Apps, Multitasking etc happened instantly.
However, I had this weird bug where calls, sms etc would suddenly stop working. Since this is obviously a dealbreaker, I'm back on v3 which is very fast by itself. I'm definitely going back to v4 once a few bugs are ironed out. Nasif has done an incredible job on the ROM.
I have tried several ics roms such as icssgs,cm9 build 17 dark knight 3 and 4,slim ics.they are quite well built but are still pretty flawed, freezes, crashes, slowing down sometimes, apps compatibility problems,cameras...I was tired of switching rom every week(because restoring requires a great amount of time and patience) so this time I decided to go for amestris,a gb rom...yeah,there's no any graphical or color change, but still is more versatile and near to perfection.all works without a blink and installed semaphore kernel is lightning fast and smooth despite 52 apps installed it won't even budge. In brief I reccomend a gb rom(unreacheable for any rom in smoothness and speed) for daily use,but if you 're looking forward to experiencing ics and it is your first time, try the roms foreamentioned.
i've been using ICSSGS 4.2 for three months, since the beginning of ICS roms for SGS devices in fact. It was much better than my "old" CM7 and faster too.
I gave a try to CNA, CodenameAndroid 1.4.0 and Wow ! so smooth and customizable, with toggles on the pull down screen, and power menu , and so much tricks but also some random bugs so i switched to Dark Knight 3, who it's near perfection.(DK4 seems to be buggy ...)
Now, there is a new version of CNA: 1.5.6 , i think you can try it.
bye.
I have been using BLUE LIGHTNING- v1.1.1-BLACKeditioN by BHuvan goyal for the last 2 weeks - I have found it very stable and quite neat.
There should be an update in the next couple of days.
