I'm new and I just flashed my phone. I've noticed that the signal strength is no longer very good. How can you tell what modem you have flashed to your phone? I have Odin, but is there a way to flash just the modem you want? Thanks for any help you can give me. I live in Toronto Canada not sure if there is a special modem that works best for here.
You can try changing the modem to the one that you've been using before flashing.
You can flash it via Odin. There's a topic somewhere here.
Your modem is listed in Settings=>About Phone=>Baseband
I replied to the same post the OP made in a Bell Canada specific thread.
So i'll just link to that response
Where do I get the ugkg3 modem and how do I flashed it? I have that clockwork recovery thing on my phone do I use it somehow? I or do I use odin? I am kinda new at this

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right section. I attempted to flash my Bell Galaxy S with the [ROM] Bionix 1.9 - JI6 OTA Build - Oops I did it again *10/14/10* and basically it installed no problem, but once it did my phone would no longer connect to the network at all. No voice or data connection just sat on searching. I restored from my nandriod backup and to my horror, still no network connection (voice or data), wifi and everything else worked fine. I ended up doing a lot of reading and staying up until 8AM to get everything fixed, felt a little stupid once i knew how-to fix it.
But now to my question, if i want to flash one of the roms, is there any special procedure that i need to follow to not loose my cell network? Any help would be fantastic
LOL... Thats sux's anyways you can't flash that rom. its not for your phone you have a GT-I9000... that rom you have flashed is for the SGH-T959.... You will need to download Odin 1.3 and flash back the whole JH2 firmware to get your radio files back. or download any rom from the i9000 forums and flash it.. but the only way to get 850mhz back is to flash to the stock JH2 firmware. unless you know what your doing and know how to flash just the radio files. you can also try kies with a reg hack to flash different firmwares.. just look around in the i9000 forums..
Go to samsung-firmwares.com and download the JH2 firmware then flash it back. Tmobile Vibrant is different from the i9000x line of phones.
I think you guys misunderstood, I have fixed it already using ODIN. I was just wondering what was flashable without breaking my radio.

Hi, I was just wondering if I could flash a JL2 modem over Darky's rom. I'd like to do this to get my 850 mhz band back assuming of course the modem controls this. Hopefully I didn't just sound like a dolt...
Anyway if I flashed the modem would it do what I intended, or just brick my phone?
Thank you
Yes you can flash the modem alone. Just go into recovery mode and apply the modem zip file.
Sure you can. i changed modems back and forth while on darky. the rom is not a restriction. And you'll have back 850mhz if the modem supports it.
good luck.
If you need the JL2 modem file, you can get it here.

Hello, all!
This is my first thread and am not entirely sure where I would start it, so figured the General Q&A would be a safe place to begin.
I wanted to let all the Canadians running a SGS GT-I9000M to know that I have made a home-brewed Gingerbread ROM that will work on both the TELUS and Rogers networks (possibly others, but not tested). I took the original European I9000XWJV1 2.3.2 (samfirmware) and fiddled with the firmware a bit.
Initially, the I9000XWJV1 firmware did not work from my home (near Lake Erie) on the TELUS network. It did, however, work with my brother's Rogers SIM card. But as persistent as I am, I decided to wait to try it from school (near Lake Ontario) because all the hardware was functional (minus the modem which I will get to), the speed had drastically increased, and the UI was so smooth compared to the 2.2 ROM I had previously (plus I'm a sucker for new software).
After about a day, I thought to myself, "if the kernel doesn't complain and recognizes it, why can't I Odin-flash a UGJK3 modem binary in place of the JV1?" So I went ahead with it and, voila! A home-brewed Gingerbread ROM for the SGS (Canadian/North American version).
Long story short, I have it if you want to give it a try. I have only been using it for a day or two now, but am selflessly willing to let everyone else play as well. If someone can give me a decent FREE site where I can upload the file to, I will post a reply to this thread with the details.
Please move this thread as necessary.
Thanks and I look forward to reading some enthusiasm in this thread soon!

how do you install it?
Downloaded it but it fails to install every time i tried then messes the phone up.
Hey, Just wanted to add for Canadian BELL members, the latest KC1 Modem works EXCELLENT with 2.3.3 Gingerbread. Just flash the modem file with ODIN. Gps locks amazingly fast and is accurate, battery like is just as good as the rest and phone maintains is crazy fast speed that it gets with gingerbread.
procedure
thank you i hoped this was the case.
Just to confirm the order: download XXJVK and flash PDA using Odin and then flash the KC1 Modem to phone, or flash both at the same time? Partition or not?
same question here.
can i just flash pda, and modem
leave csc to bell and not repartition?
thanks!
I have the same questions? Can one flash just the modem file using Odin? If so, does one check repartiton and use the PIT file or not? Also, can I just use the modem bin file without any other file for the modem?
I have already flashed an official 2.3 ROM but I can only get the 1900 UMTS band and would like to get the 850 also.
Thanks in advance.
I felt lucky today so I just;
1. Fired up Odin,
2. Put the phone in download mode,
3. Hooked it up to computer,
4. Using the phone tab I selected only the bin file for the KC1 modem. NOTE:
I did NOT select the partition box or use a PIT file.
5. Hit the Start Button.
It finished in about 12 seconds and now my device works on the 850 and 1900 UMTS bands.

Above procedure worked for me with 2.3.3 JVK. I used the single modem.bin file (~12Mb) for JK3 in the 'Phone' section of Odin from the JK3 thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9314637&postcount=18
I've been using JVK modem for weeks without 850 on Bell, and it's rare for me to have reception issues. Battery life seemed on par with 2.2 JL2, GPS seemed improved. Will see how KC1 stacks up.
I'm using Doc's Rom with the kc1 modem and it's working great.
Good battery and fast smooth interface.

I am almost positive I included a HOW-TO document in the ZIP file.
Moreover, I posted this assuming the reader had knowledge of how to flash firmware or use Google.
I tested what you did on the 2.3.4 update and it seems to be working fine (used the modem file included in yours instead of stock) thanks for the tip. I couldn't figure out why my SGS wouldnt text.
as the topic says i have no reception at all call or anything ive tried reflash to stock jvp and stock optus and have also set APN settings to default and nothing any one able to tell me a code to enable disable the modem on my SGS i9000 or have any idea what could be going on?
Flash jvp modem via odin put it in PDA and you will be fine
You can find modem in ramad thread for stock firmware

hey once the same happened to me when i installed sh 3.6.1, after i install my sim wouldnt register, going back to the previous version my sim worked...so i changed my kernel to fugu and flashed 3.6.1 again everything worked fine... try this might help u !!
new modem I recommend
I'm a dev and I've spent 2 hours reading and trying...
Can I flash KC1 or KG3 from ClockworkMod 4 or 5 ? I'm on Linux and I avoid ODIN if at all possible.
I flash back and forth between CM7 nightlies and various MIUI ROMs. I need my SIM to work for s/w testing, for data and voice.
This i9000m phone is pretty new, was a Virgin Mobile model (pretty much Bell) and I use a SIM from an MVNO of Bell. (President's Choice.) With the stock ROM this worked without unlocking.
I tried some ZIP files for these basebands, meant for CWM3. I also tried replacing the modem.bin in the latest CM7 nightly. Nothing I do makes Settings -> About show a baseband other than "I9000XXJVK".
When I do a search for networks, it eventually shows me: 302610, 30220 and "CAN Rogers Wireless Inc." and I have emergency service I believe.
At the dial keypad I can't make "*#1234#" or "*#0011#" do anything.
Thanks !
No thoughts ?
I managed to get KC1 and KG3 loaded fine when installed along with Darky ROM using heimdall.
But when I install CM nightly, it overwrites the modem.bin.
And when I then use heimdall to flash the KC1 or KG3, CM says "Baseband version Unknown".
Same when I flash a modified CM zip with a new updater.sh and a removed modem.bin over Darky.
EDIT: Solved. I guess I need CM7/MIUI specific modems from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783
You're right buddy, that's exactly what i was going to say after reading your post.
