Clockwork Mod recovery - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I recently rooted my Nexus One. Its all running great. Installed Rom Manager and used it to install Clockworkmod recovery. This is where my problem lies. The installation goes fine and I can boot into it he first time. But after that it doesn't work. I just an image of the android figure and an exclamation mark in a triangle. I have to remove my battery to reboot. If I reinstall clockworkmod recovery it works. But only once. Hen I get the same problem. Any body know what's wrong here. Its got me stumped. I'm afraid to install any Rom wig this acting so weird. Thanks for any and all help anyone can give.

Stock Recovery is persistent, i.e will overwrite CWM on every reboot.

How do i get around this then to make it stop overwriting clockwork?

There's a script or something like that is preventing the CWM recovery from sticking IIRC.
You can get a script made by rugmankc
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...b.tt/ooDaCnU&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13257843136922
Download the file and put on your sd card
After you install and boot into the CWM recovery the first time, flash that
Fix-Recovery.zip file

Thanks, I took a look at it, instead of running the script i used ES File Explorer and just renamed install-recovery.sh and recovery-form-boot.p and that seemed to do the trick. I was able to boot into CWM recovery 3 times in a row.

you should install super user or Custom rom

Im already rooted so I have super user. And I will be installing a custom Rom soon. Anyway, the issue is cleared up now, since I renamed those files.

At the very top of rom manager, you must flash 2.5.0.1 recovery. Did you do this first?

So you flashed the clockworkmod recovery, booted into recovery and made a nandroid of your stock rom. Then, what rom were trying to flash?

This exact same thing happened to me. What I did to fix it was pull the battery, then wipe everything (dalvik, data, cache), and then rebooted. My phone was able to boot then.
I'm having the same problem with rom manager. I just rooted my desire using the unrevoked method, then ran rom manager. I did install the recovery mode first, then backed up the rom. How my desire is just rebooting to the htc screen. How do I get out of this?
Many thanks,
Joe
dumb question, but how did you wipe everything?

Hey, that's exactly the same issuing I'm experiencing now. Did you solve it? And if yes, how?
Well, a few hours later I solved it by restoring a backup and then booting went well. Also described in a thread on androidforums dot com (I can't enter the link here due to not having posted enough messages) .

I don't know if this helps, but I'm pretty sure nandroids are specific to which recovery they were created with, I read that somewhere a few days ago. If you did not have clockwork before, I would try getting the recovery you used to make the nand, install that recovery and then restore the nand. Then try the whole wipe everything and get clockwork and go to town. If you haven't tried RA/Darch 1.7 recovery, I would recommend it, I personally like it better than clockwork, it seems faster, and simpler to use.
Exactly What "Il Duce" Said Will Fix Your Problem, Same Exact Thing Happened To Me, What I Did Was Go Back To Previous Version Of Rom Manager Then Flash Alternate Recovery, AND Regular Clockwork Recovery, Should Be Good After That!

[Q] Flash custom rom without custom recovery? possible?

Hi!
I've succesfully rootet my SGS. testet wtih terminal, and i got the # sign.
Also, I have suoer users installed, and granted access to ROM manager, e.g.
Now, I would like to flash darky's custom ROM. And usually, i would boot into custom recovery menu and wipe, and apply zip from sd. (this was on my HTC).
Well, this is causing me some problems. I would rather not use Odin, as it seem a bit unsafe but I installed ROM manager, and flashed Clockwork Mod recovery. Now, when I reboot into custom recovery I get the stock android recovery, though ROM manager, says my current version of clowckwork mod is installed, and all went succesfull.
Now, my question is. Can i rename the zip file update.zip and flash with the stock android recovery anyway?
When you flash clockwork i think it just puts a .zip file on the sd card so youbshould try flashing the custom recovery through stock recovery. If not then ODIN is the way to go which can be perfectly safe if done properly.
*You have to select reinstall packages i think.

Thanks
I never get into clockwork mod, so I guess I dont get the option to reinstall packages... The only option I have beside wiping and reboot is to apply update.zip from sdcard in android recovery. But I don't think there is any update.zip on my sdcard. not last i checked at least. Guess Ill have to go with Odin then :/
Usually the option to reinstall packages is on stock recovery. I might be wrong but odin is easy to do if you get the right firmware for your phone. Sorry i ciuldnt help more.

Thanks again. I get wiser by the hour
I think im on android recovery (3e) as I recall, perhaps they removed it
I was wandering. I found the clockworkmod.zip /recovery_update.zip on the sd-card. if I move this to root of sdcard and rename to update.zip, can I then flash it via android recovery with the "apply update.zip from sdcard" function, or is this not for the purpose?
That might work, you may aswell try butif not try looking at the url i posted and see if it helps. If not then im sorry for wasting your time :S

thanks, but i think Im caught in between... i cant choose reinstall packages, and I need to get back to stock kernel...
got download mode to work now, and think I know what to do from here. thanks for the link and response
Finally - reverted back to stock android recovery 2e and flash clockworkmod recovery.... but - a new problem... when in clockworkmod, i need to choose zip from sd card, when i go into this, and choose external sd, it says no files
what to do? the files are there, when I put in the sd card in the PC the files are there...
Not entirely sure but i think you're meant to put the .zip on the internal sd. If not then maybe the sd card is not fat32 format. This is only speculation :S

Problem accessing recovery

Hi guys:
I have rooted my phone today using SuperOneClick root. Then I have installed ROM Manager, and installed Clockwork Recovery Mod 3.0.0.5. I have being reflashing Clockwork and recovery menu via ROM Manager because when I turn off my phone and turn it up (holding up power on and vol down button) and press to go to Recovery then appears the error image that is like an Android logo, cellphone and a yellow caution sign.
¿Can you guys help me? ¿What I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!
That's the stock recovery. If you still have a stock rom, it will restore stock recovery unless you delete the following files:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
/system/recovery-from-boot.p

I don't understand.
I have installed to it CM7 last build. And is running without any problems, but I am scared that if I have some problem with the OS and I can't boot to recovery.
It has Clockwork Recovery Mod but I can access it unless I use ROM Manager to start it.
¿I need to delete those 2 files and It will be fixed?
Thanks!
That is definitely the stock recovery (Android with an exclamation in a triangle).
If you have CM7 installed, I've no idea how you got the stock recovery, but re-flashing another recovery should fix it. The two files I mentioned aren't included in CM7, so that's not the problem...

Agree. That's the stock recovery. Sometimes you need to apply the new recovery twice under rom manager. I did have similar experience. Install a custom recovery again. I beg it will be fine next time. Hope this help.
When I first rooted using a one click method my custom recovery would only stick for one boot. On the xda nexus one wiki there's instructions on how to install a recovery after one click root and get it to stick.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Clockwork Mod Issue

I was running Cognition 3.02 and wanted to make the jump to 4.1 but have hit a snag. I downloaded the rom and made a backup of the existing one w/ CWM. I moved the rom to the sdcard folder and renamed it update.zip. Then I entered recovery and disabled voodoo lagfix. While still in recovery I select install sdcard: update.zip. During boot up the phone froze in the cognition animation screen for sometime. I then attempted to restore the old rom in recovery mode and it has now gotten stuck in restoring data....type-yc-egg.png
Any ideas on what I did wrong here?
DOH!
Well it seems I muddled my way through it....ended up installing an old version of Cog using the install zip from sdcard option in the recovery menu. Everything booted up fine once this was finished.....whew! Then I downloaded the 4.1 ROM directly to the phone and left it unchanged in the sdcard folder. I then ran it through CWM and everything worked....re-installing apps now
Never change the name of the roms. Leave them the way that you download them.

I imagine the problem is solved but wanted to give my two cents. Update.zip is used not really used for flashing a new rom only for rooting and flashing clockwork.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
If you are simply updating to a newer version of a rom, there's no need to rename it update.zip. Using CWM, enter recovery mode and install. zip from sd card.

Having trouble with backup and Clockwork Recovery

I'm trying to make my way around Android. I use an Evo, got as far as rooting it and they didn't have time to go much further. But with the Nook Color, I'm kind of forced to customize it to make it usable. I'm trying to learn how to do everything, and have gotten pretty far with just this forum and Googling. Any help would be appreciated.
I have Clockwork Rom running and flashed the recovery. When I select Nook Color (old) it won't mount the SD card when I try to do a backup, or any other time in the recovery. When I try flashing Nook Color, it mounts the SD card, but won't mount the system. Any idea on how to solve this problem?
Thanks!
EDIT: My Nook version is 1.0.1 and I used to the corresponding AutoNooter to root it.
Anyone have any ideas?
CWM recovery doesn't install correctly through ROM Manager, but you can flash MrMuffins zip to install the recovery. This may be your problem? Try reading here...

I did not know that. Thank you for that! Time to grab some coffee and pull an Android all-nighter now. I'll report back on if that works. If I do flash the CWM recovery via the zip (and it works), I can still use ROM manager for ROMs right?
