[Q] Disable capacitive buttons - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Is there a possibilty to disable capacitive buttons?
I plan to buy a GNote, but I've read some complains that they could be accidentaly pressed... That's really annoying.
(Currently I have E-Ten M800 with capacitive butons, and they are really strange. I have them switched OFF)
what's your experience?

Only had that issue when viewing sideways. Solved it by turning it a full 180 so they were on the opposite side to my hand (same also applies for PDF annotations with stylus). Never had it since.

almost-real keypad on a touchscreen

I heard from a friend that someone is building a phone where the touchscreen keypad is almost as easy to feel as a physical hard-button keypad.
The virtual buttons (0-9, *, #) are spread out in a typical rectangular grid over the whole screen, with large gaps between them. When you (lightly) move your finger across the screen, it vibrates as your finger is passing over any button. If you want to actually press the button, you have to push your finger against the screen harder (this event is acknowledged with a beep).
This sounds like a great interface. Has anyone seen/heard of it? It also seems relatively easy to implement on any PocketPC, unless there are some problems that I'm not aware of.
I'm using one application that uses vibration as a feedback -- Phone_Pad_Vibrate.cab. However, it vibrates only when you actually press a button. I think it's a great app, but obviously its purpose is very different from what I'm talking about (e.g., it won't help you find the right button if you just shift your finger around the screen). Also, I found that it's not reliable -- if I use fast, light touches, I can dial a whole number without any vibration. It may be due to the lag between the button press and the vibration, or due to the different pressure threshold used by this program and the actual phone dialer. If it's the lag, I wonder if it's a technical limitation of the Kaiser.
The screen on the Kaiser (and most other PocketPCs) isn't pressure sensitive, that is, it can tell when you are pressing, but not how hard. You would need a special screen to achieve that.
You are talking about screen technology more advanced than most PocketPCs are currently equipped with. the iPhone has what is generally regarded as the most advanced touch screen in a mass produced product. The software would need to implement it, but the screen's hardware would need to be able to do it in the first place.

What are you TD2 users doing about accidental touches?

Just curious...in the TD1, I used S2U2 to avoid accidental touches to the screen but as the TD2 already has the side to answer/end .. what do you use now?
I'm having a few issues I did when I got the first diamond where if someone calls, or you call out via bluetooth, the phone screen turns on
Usually end up hanging up on someone when I call them because the screen touches the pouch/pocket etc
I think there are a few apps to disable screen apart from hard keys etc - just curious what the majority use

Is there a tweak for this in ACT? With my t pro when a call goes thru the screen goes dark almost immediatly, so I have the opposite prob as I need to use the kp to enter numbers sometimes. I could see where using bt it could be an issue tho.
I was wondering if the D2 came with a proximity or light sensor to disable/turn off the screen while it is against your face. I hate my Elfin.... I'm always pressing things with my face and getting into all kinds of menus.
My brothers Behold has sensors that shut the screen off. As of recently I have been pressing the power button to turn off the screen after I answer. Can't wait till mine ships on the 11th.

I asked the same question in another thread, and would be very curious about the answer, especially since gsmarena.com does not mention it as a feature, in comparison to the D1.
the iPhone has this feature...and I really can't imagine the D2 to do not have it. I hope I won't be surprised negatively.
i presume it does
Bearing in mind it automatically dims the backlight, and increases it. It must have one somewhere!.

I sure hope. I read that the Touch Pro2 has it so I'm hoping that the TD2 does also. If not that would be a shame. Good thing I'm getting used to pressing the power button right after I answer.
The D2 does come with a proximity light that dims the screen. If you look at the manual it's listed in the diagram specs page as well.

that sounds really great! but does it mean that it's inactivated too? dimming is indeed good, especially in the dark not to have a glowing ear - but i was wondering if, with the dimming, comes the inactivation of the screen too, in order to avoid accidental pressing of buttons with the ear/face.

[Q] Capacitive Buttons and Digitizer Issue

VZW SCH-i800
Recieved unit with only ability to turn off from screen when power button depressed. Screen and capacitive buttons otherwise non-responsive.
Flashing various ODIN Roms gives me the following:
1. No response on digitizer or capacitive buttons as received.
2. Response throughout digitizer except left 1/2" and bottom 3/4 inch and no capacitive buttons. As Tab is rotated, it seems that screen calibration is not correct.
3. In Recovery, capacitive buttons do not work. (Thank goodness for CWM!)
Has anyone seen this before? Any solutions I can try?
I have unbrickable mod hardware mod that I performed after a bad bootloader flash, so I can try about anything.
So far ICS and stock DJ11 allow most use of digitizer with anything else pretty much gives me no screen control.
Nothing solves capacitive button issue.
TIA!!
I had the same problem 2 weeks ago, but it recovered by itself 24 hours later, however this morning problem again, think I'll need to change the digitizer, some China supplier is selling between USD2 to USD40 only, can't even believe it's true or not. Majority USD10.

Capacitive Button Backlight Auto/Off

I normally don't have capacitive button phones (or disbale the backlights on Samsungs) and this is my first DROID phone.. but I do notice that the capactive buttons backlight will auto turn off outdoors or in areas with a lot of light.
Has anyone found a way to manually disable the capactive button backlight without root? Is it even possible without root? I'd like to turn them off, becomes a bit of a distraction when watching videos or reading in the dark. Hopefully Motorola will put in an option in the near future.
Also, is anyone else kind of disappointed that Motorola did not implement the new graphic button layout design that Android 5.0 Lollipop will use? I understand it might be confusing to some newcomers or people in general, but I wish it was done personally. They were plenty aware of 5.0's layout. Just a weird oversight.
The Lux app allows you to turn them off.
I accomplished it by using Screen Filter and auto-launching it on startup with AutoStart.
I'm coming from the same background, a Galaxy S3 with the capacitive backlights turned off (CM11) and an S5 right after that briefly (they have that feature built into the OS).
So far literally the only complaint I've had is the backlight on my recent app-switcher is super uneven, likely an air-bubble in the glue. It bothered me having it on because it was uneven and this was my solution (which I prefer to having the lights enabled, even if it was an even distribution).

[Q] Faulty Tilt to Wake

Hi guys, recently I made the upgrade for the GWR, previously I had a GW (square one) and I'm a little disappointed.
I always used my old GW with screen off, using the Tilt to Wake gesture to wake the screen. I never had any problems to wake the screen using the gesture. But the GWR frequently won't wake when I do the gesture.
I've found out that is pretty much hit or miss, I have to turn the wrist specifically in a way to get the watch to wake, and sometimes it only wakes if I return my wrist to the resting position, so f**** annoying!
In my previous GW(square) every single time I tilt towards me it lightens up.
I already used an app to see the axis values in the accelerometer, and it seems to be registering the values correctly.
Are you guys experiencing similar problem or I got a faulty unit?
Also I though that the battery should last longer than the original GW because it has those 10 extra mAh and has a AMOLED screen wich in theory saves more battery than the IPS display on the GW... And instead the battery on my GWR goes dry a little more faster then on the original GW.
So guys any thoughts in this matter will be very much appreciated
