[Q] Connect (for my music sync) without Kies? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to connect the Note to a PC and access storage etc. without having Kies open? It's such a hassle to open Kies every time since I don't otherwise use it.
I sync my music in flac format using MediaMonkey, so I have no use for Kies other than connecting the phone.
Does Kies contain some sort of driver for the phone?

A good thing to use would be ftp. There is an app on the market called: FTPDroid.
FTP allows you to access the files on your phone through Wifi another device that has a ftp viewer, such as a computer. Its a good way to transfer files. Have a look on google on how to setup ftp servers etc.
Also, for Wifi music syncing from iTunes, a very good/best app is: Wifi Tunes Sync Pro, it costs about $2.00, but is very much worth it. There is also a lite verson to test with. Hope this helped.

Try Audiogalaxy client. Yes, i know thats sound oldskool...but its the best for play music from pc to phone....even without wifi. Another app is Airsync-doubletwist but tha app put the songs in internal sd.

App idea: Simple share music server (wifi)

Hey all.
How about a simple music server for the G1 that uses a windows compatible file sharing system? (smb?)
I am always at a loss for music to listen to on my laptop, but my G1 has about 10 gigs of music on it.. it would be great to have an app that shared this out simply, and allowed my windows box to browse the contents of the phone without having to tether via usb.
By the by, I'm available to any developers out there who need animation / graphics for Android apps / games. Get in touch via my website at cartoonmonkey dot com.

That would completely rape your battery, you'd need to have it plugged in after an hour or two. Why not just use a USB cord?
If there's anyone doing the opposite of this, and wants to listen to music on their G1 that's stored on the PC, check out five: http://code.google.com/p/five/
Unfortunately there's only a Linux server atm.
Use Orb.com works great for me, can view my web cam, open any picture, most videos, and get all the music from it.

Import iTunes library to my Captivate

Hi,
I am avid reader of these forums, and finally pulled the trigger and got the Samsung Captivate (I had to stick with AT&T). I am relatively new to Android, and I was stunned but what I got with my Captivate!! (all due respect to my old beloved Tilt with WiMo). To think I was seriously considering iPhone 4
Anyway, I am yet to root the phone - will wait a few more days to get comfortable. For now I have been playing with a ton of apps etc.
I have a 100 GB iTunes Library which sits on my home server. I am looking for a solution where I can selectively sync certain albums and playlists to my phone. No point in carrying around 2 devices. I have already tried Double Twist. The problem is I need to install the client on my Laptop and get the music synced from the home server. I have got this working by manually adding 1 folder at a time - which is cumbersome, and not to mention that I loose artwork, ratings etc.
So, I am looking to [Home Server] <--> [Laptop] <--> [Phone]. At any point the source for this library is the Home Server, Laptop is only a pass thru.
Why use the laptop in the middle? I don't want to store media files here (work laptop).
Why not directly sync with the Home Server? It sits in the basement and I am lazy to go down the every time I want to sync that was my major irritant with iPod syncing.
Any recommendations?
Regards
Nick
Can't you set up home sharing in iTunes? That way you can see your library from your server on your laptop, and have doubletwist pull your playlist from that iTunes.
Home Server <--> Laptop --> DoubleTwist --> Captivate
I can't remember the exact steps, but I know you can pull from a home server like you are saying. Most people do it with their home theater set ups, but I don't see why it couldn't be done this way
I just use estrong file manager, and am able to get to my file shares via wifi. While this might work exactly like you want you won't have to plug in. just a thought.

I found Doubletwist to be unstable. I used MediaMonkey. It supports playlists and syncing to mounted drives or media devices. If you mount your homeserver as a drive letter on the laptop, then MediaMonkey should work fine.
The free version did all i needed, but it doesn't sync video - just music.
Google is your friend.

This works with any android phone.

[Q] video files on dlna

hy guys
i don't know if is better write this problem here or in other section; i have posted here because i think that the dlna program on galaxy s is inside the rom of the phone and is not a 3th parts porgram that i can install later
in any case, i try to explane my problem and i hope to find any solution with you.
i don't understand why, i f i try to play some video files stored on my hard disk with this dlna service, with my galaxy, i can't reproduce them; i can find it, i can surf on my directory (i use the orb media as a server) but when i choose one file, i see "file not supported"..the strange is that..i see the same advise also if i try to reproduce a video files that before was in my phone.....
i don't understand why i have this problem; my idea, is use the tv out function of my galaxy to reproduce some video on my pc on my tv in bedroom, as a films or other without, all the times, disconnect my hard drive, connect it to the pc, load the file and remake the same operation...if one time i want to play a simple film or other materials that i have on my pc, why can't do that?
i'm waiting, if is possible, some solution or idea
merry Christmas and happy new year for all!
sam
i am not sure but i think i read somwhere that dlna only works with windows media sharing
if you are using something like twonky or tversity it doesn't work
it is just a bad app
Ok.. Now i try to make the same with orb program and i can see the video correctly! I think that is as your idea a strange setting of this program., it will work only with Samsung tv..
Do you know if i can try for this operation some other programs?
Thanks for your reply!

I had the same problem, but in i a slightly different combination.
My PC acts as a DLNA server. Only the program named "Samsung PC share manager" solved the problem. You can install it on PC and share your video files via DLNA.

Ok i have just pay to use a complete version of orb.. But i'm very angry because i can not use a function of my expensive smartphone and i must buy a expensive extra software

[Q] Ford Escape 2011 SYNC Version Gen1 - V3.2 and the Cappy in USB

I am running Mosaic IV (2.3) on my Captivate. So far the SYNC picks up my phone, grabs the phonebook, can dial and play media through bluetooth. Really don't care about text messages coming through.
The thing I'd love to know is how to get it to be recognized and play the media through USB connection so it will index the music, etc.
I did read a ford post that the person put it into media player mode and connected and it worked but it doesn't even find the device when I do that (can't get it to install a proper driver in my Win 7 either). It does find it when I put it into Mass Storage and hit the connect button but sits at initializing for a long long time then pops up as unsupported device.
I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with this? I'm also wondering if it has something to do with the Media player mode not working on my Win 7 either.
Thanks in advance
You will have to download an app called Sync My Ride made by Ford and run that to change the tags on your music files so that sync can recognize them. Keep your phone in USB Storage mode. Also, try moving your music files from the SD card to the internal card or vise versa. Not sure how sync handles the two different drives that come up if you have a SD card in. I use my Captivate in my Ford Focus with no problem. It does take a while to index my music files (about 30 mins for all my music) using the usb connection, so I prefer to use the Bluetooth media option through sync now.
Thanks for the info. Can't find it in the market or by Google. Any ideas? Have the apk handy?

It is for your computer not your phone. Sorry for not mentioning that. Here is the link: https://secure.syncmyride.com/Own/Modules/SupportContent/SupportHome.aspx

Hunting through their software I see sync my phone which would help with my phonebook but i'm not having a problem with that. I took the music folder off my phone and put it on a simple 2gb usb memory stick and it picked it all up and indexed no problem so i don't think it's an issue with the tags otherwise they wouldn't have read.
It didn't pick it up when the music was on my internal sd just sat at initializing then eventually timed out and said not supported. Did the same thing when ONLY my music was on the external sd card and formatted at FAT. Saw someone say to use FAT32 (which is what the USB is formatted at and it works), so I did just that and put it at FAT32 and with only my music folder on there it still had no love.. didn't even try to initialize just said USB Empty.. so it thought it was supported, just nothing on there.
Well I think it is just going to be easier to have a basic usb drive in there with the music. I can 'sync' my music folder to the USB at anytime.. and as I won't have playlists i'll just make album tags since that works just fine.
If anyone else has any ideas toss em in.
Thx!

[REQ][IDEA]Google Music Uploader Mobile

Ok, so we all know how Google music currently only uploads from your PC, and I'm sure we all hate the fact that when we download new music to our tablet or phone from some other source (like Amazon or MP3Downloader) it doesn't upload to GM.
I know the work arounds like Drop Box and setting GM to search the USB Drive connection of your device for new music, but both require either the PC being on and awake 24/7 or the phone being connected to the PC. I think that defeats the purpose of GM's sync design.
So here's my Idea: (Mind you I don't have the know-how to even begin this, so if it's impossible forgive me. )
Couldn't one of the amazing DEV's on XDA decompile the Google Music Uploader program that runs on the PC and take what's needed from that (such as the upload urls or commands or whatever) and use it to create an Android App that will do the same? Then you could have a standalone app that monitors your /music folder and uploads new files to your GM account. Similar to the way G+ uploads new pics.
Again I have no idea how or if this could work but I thought it was worth mentioning... Any takers?
