Most of these Roms are pretty stable for daily use, but if you are looking for a perfect Rom, don't bother! Beg SE as much as you want, you won't get from them! change phone!

Hi all, hope I don't break the rules, but I did something to my Galaxy S, not 100% sure what I did, I used ''odin3''. Bit of newbie at this thing..
Its currently, not running the best, there is quite a bit of lag and I have a real problem with force closes.. If any one can please help me, I would greatly appreciate it...
Thanks
Below, is what I get when I go to ''About Phone'':
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: I9000XXJP2
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 root sep-52 #1
Build number: GT-I9000-eng 2.2 MASTER 332 test-keys.332
Well what did you flash?
Not to be harsh but thats almost £300 that you could have just fried. Should really do some research and not just flash willy-nilly.
if you just want a fast phone I advise flashing Darkys ROM 8, the wipe version seeing as you dont really know what you might have done. You will first need a kernal with ClockworkMod recovery. What I just said should be enough for you to get back on your feet. If its not, shout up.
Also... 'Help...!' isnt a great topic name.
EDIT: Better yet, just search. You would have found a guide here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=904245
Thread reported to be moved, not development.
A fresh flash with Odin should be fast. Unless you are using a crappy ROM What did you flash?
Doc's ROM with Hardcore is by far the best for speed if you are looking for recommendations
not sure what I flashed, not really sure what it means..ha was thinking about darkys ROM, like the look of it is it fast?? really sick of lag
Darky's is more buggy due to the extra bloat and his lack of experience in building ROMs. It does look pretty though.
Doc's is great plus you have the awesome flexibility of the online kitchen and tons of different themes.
what should I do if I have installed a crappy ROM? My current set up is crappy anyways, lags so much and force closes are a big problem...how do I see what ROM I have installed?? cheers
Hi, Hmm No1 noticed here with these replies, you said you used Odin3 (oneclickdownloader) Dunno if you used files that came with this..................... Samsung Captivate)(i Think) but last time including many others Bricked my other Galaxy..........Download the Norm Odin 1.1
Did you do a factory reset after flashing the phone? Backup everything first as this will wipe all data that was left from the previous ROM, including contacts, but it will ensure a more stable OS.
You can access the factory reset from recovery.

Of all rom, you go flash MASTER's rom?
And mind you, you are still in JP2! Just recommend a rom of XXJPY. There are plenty out there for you to flash, and it is NOT limited to only just Darkyy or DocRambone's ones. jim panse, nitr8, webstar1, just to name a few....
Suggest you go to the sticky and check out one of the threads there regarding those roms.
Hope this helps.

Flash to a stock rom to get phone working .
Then as been said study the posts and FAQs .
A cooked ROM is not flawless it may be buggy and most are ongoing development .
My preference is for the Magical Rom machine .

why g00ndu what is MASTER's rom like? bad by the sounds of it?
just want a quick nice-looking and feature-loaded rom any more recommendations? cheers

Not so much the rom as its been flashed by newbies who never read the posts plus their has been a constant update and change that does not cure bugs .
Forum littered with help posts broken phones all the same rom .
My recommend would be Rom Kitchen http://romkitchen.org/sgs_v1/#
XXJPY wipe jpy modem supercurio kernel
samsung_stock_jpy keyboard
plus whatever apps you want at boot .
easy install via clockwork recovery
once working you can always modify the specs and change .

I'm sick of having to flash new roms because they are completely unstable.. I've been using Super D 1.11 for over a year now simply because anytime I use another developers rom it has bugs somewhere -_-.
I'm looking for a newer rom that 1.6 Donut.. maybe 2.1 or 2.2 .. I'm just looking for ideas on the MOST STABLE roms for the g1 32b.
thank you.

Darky's v7.6 Gingerbread Edition
Is there a guide or someting that helps you pick a rom?
I am currently on darky v10 rc6 but i do wanna try some different roms. But by reading the rom threads i see all different kind of information and no clue what they all mean.
Insanity is good, gingerbread, slim rom with nitrality app to install all the bits you want and leave out the **** you dont want, I run with fugumod kernel, if u want advice pm me
Sent from gt i9000 insanity 8.5/fugumod
Insanity is good, MIUI is REALLY good, there's ginger real if you want to retain the stock feel to your phone. It's really down to what you want out of your phone.
Sorry if Im hijacking this thread, but I just want my phone to be superfast and minimize any hick ups.
Im now on darky rom v10 rc6 with sensation theme and I think its very nice. But if im not mistaken both are very now and there are some bugs here and there. Wich also appear on my phone This makes me curious to other roms.
So would MIUI be an upgrade from where im currently at regarding speed and user experience?
I was also thinking of maybe downgrading darky rom to v9.. not sure yet. Maybe thats more reliable
MIUI is the best rom (I think) for visual appearance, but there are so many good stable roms out there nowadays it's very hard to know which one is best.
Im currently running MIUI MCGv3, and am loving it, it's stable, the battery life is really good now, it's constantly being developed. All the things I like in a rom package, because let's face it, there's no point in installing a rom where the development on it has died out lol.
Thnx i think im gonna try miui real soon then.

Really nice rom
If you need any help installing MIUI, just send me a PM and I'll get back to you as fast as I can, I check up on here fairly regularly on my phone anyway, so it' shouldn't be long before I reply lol.

Some people are having good results with the quorora kernel, but to be honest I haven't had any issues at all with the glitch kernel that comes with MCGv3.

I realise this has probably been asked 1000's of times but I would prefer to have an answer tailored specifically for me and my phone as I don't want to try something have it not work and brick my phone.
Basically I want to change my boot animation and from what I've read I understand I need to flash a kernal that will allow this, I've always wanted to try flashing roms/kernals but honestly im too scared too.
I guess my question is what rom/kernal would you suggest I flash? (that allows bootanimation changes)
My phone info is as follows: (Edit- flashed from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5..proud of myself )
model- GT-I9000
firmware- 2.3.5
Baseband version- I9000XXJVS
Kernal- 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVS-CL565837 [email protected] #2
build- Gingerbread-XXJVS
I've probably given too much but as you can tell I'm a noob when it comes to my phone.
Any advice is apprecited
You can have a look at this tutorial: link
Alrighty I will take a look!

I'm still after more advice, That link didn't really help me understand how to flash a rom.
I would go for Cyanogenmod 7 I'm already on CM9 now en this is pretty good!! Even when it's stil in Alpha
I was contemplating Cyanogenmod or MIUI
Would you say Cyanogenmod over MIUI?
If so how would I go about getting that onto my phone?
sorry for spamming, But I just flashed MIUI so this thread is not really needed anymore!
Pretty happy I figured out how to flash a rom safety
Hi
I've just bought a Galaxy I9000 & wondered which is the best stable Rom to use daily,
also, do i have to change the kernel for certain roms ?
Thanx in advance
It really depends what you want from the phone but... the best full custom ROM to go use for daily use I truly believe is CyanogenMod, there are two main CyanogenMod releases for the i9000.
First of all you have CyanogenMod 9 which is based upon Ice Cream Sandwich. If you download this make sure you get version 9.1.0 stable.
Secondly you have CyanogenMod 7 which is based upon Gingerbread. If you download this make sure you get version 7.2.0 stable.
You don't have to change the kernel for either of these ROM's (or any ROM as far as I know) but you can if you want more from the phone like having the ability to overclock it for example.
If you have to ask... yes CyanogenMod 10 is available but it has not yet been given the green light for a stable release so you may want to stay away from it until it reaches stable status.
Thanx for a spot on answer, just what i wanted to know. Thanx again.
the stock one!

Hi,
I suggest you to use for some time the "stock" samsung rom, in order that you can experience what features and apps you are missing (if any). In my case, when I was on the stock samsung rom I used to change the launcher because the defautl one didn't support display rotation. But this is me: I have several friend that decided to stay with the stock rom.
I personally use cyanogen, with stock kernels. You might very well change the kernel too (if you need special features, which is not my case).
Otherwise, if you just wanna have fun, go and install cyanogen. but be careful!! remember to make a backup of the efs folder (look around here how to do), beacuse if it is dameged during flashing you night end up with an unusable phone...

When this happens we flash back to stock with a stock ROM from SamMobile or a stock based ROM, fixes lost EFS info But good shout, backups do save a lot of headaches!

I prefer the stock rom are most stable, but i will root and try to delete or freeze the unlike/seldom use stock app. personnel opinion.
Thanx to everyone for the sound advice,i quite like the stock rom.
I tried cyanogen 7.2 briefly, but when i went to the file manager,it showed nothing on my sd card when really it has plenty of music files and apps on it.
Dunno why that was, anyway back on stock for now, might try again soon. Thanx again.
