Hi all, I wanted to start a thread for beginners like me to not get confused from all the similar threads and to keep it clean for instructions that are related for basic setting up the phone.
It would be nice to keep the first post updated with data that are 100% correct for any region or provider based phone.
So, to get started with me, i have read through the threads for a couple of days but still have some questions that hopefully someone will answer.
1) SIM-Unlock
I recently got my Mini from my provider Telenor in Serbia, and the first thing for carrier based phones someone will probably want is to SIM-unlock them. You can check if your phone is locked by entering *#7465625# in the dialer pad.
The cleanest and fastest solution that works 100% so far is from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335548
I used the second method since I'm on OSX and have no way of installing Android SDK but can find a hex editor ("Hex Fiend" ) that works under OSX.
2) ROM-Upgrade
For people that have SIM-free phones the first step may be upgrading to newer ROM(and since Ginger is the favorite ROM my guess that I don't need to write any info for Froyo based devices), my suggestion is that you download Official ROM-s from sammobile.com because they are guaranteed 100% clean and you can also find carrier based ROM-s if you mess something up and want to take your phone for warranty reparation.
How to update your phone to Ginger is described here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255305
After the update it is recommended to do cache and data cleanup. And a hard reset by entering *2767*3855# in the dialer pad.
Go into restore mode(Power off your phone, hold Home and Power button), and when a menu comes up select "clear cache", and "clean data", select reset afterwards and wait for it to boot .
After this you are ready to go and explore Android OS
3) Install CWM
And that's it for people who want to just use their phone as an android device. But. If you want to get the maximum potential from your device custom ROM-s are a must. For flashing custom ROM-s you will need Clock Work Mod to be installed, which is described here
http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/09/installing-clock-work-mod-recovery-in.html
4) Custom ROM
Afterwards download the custom Rom of your choice from xda , the installation instructions may wary form ROM to ROM but they always are described in their threads( SO READ THEM CAREFULLY ), here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318735
And here is where i stopper, and need further help from experienced people
My questions are:
1. After i installed the custom ROM, I need to repartition and reformat my sd-card to a different file system ex. ex-fat for faster performance using Clock Work Mod???
2. Do I have to do some zip-aligning and how???
3. How many partitions do i must have on my sd-card and what size/file system must they be??? ( i know one must be for swap, one for dalvik, and one to expand internal storage but I don't know how big and which file system).
4. I want to use a custom kernel for undervolting(no OC is needed) and thus i need to move the dalvik to sd card as far as I understood, is there a tutorial or is it intuitive from the app that is used to do this???
Bump, does anyone know any of the related questions?
1. After i installed the custom ROM, I need to repartition and reformat my sd-card to a different file system ex. ex-fat for faster performance using Clock Work Mod???
--> Two options:
-ClockWordMod Recovery.. CWM partitions the sd-ext in ext3 format. Also, swap can be partirioned here. Partitioning in CWM will reformat the whole sd card.
-If you want ext4 format, you can dowload Minitool Partition Wizard. I don't know if there is an OS X version though. If you can partition drives on OS X without 3rd party software, that's great.
2. Do I have to do some zip-aligning and how???
--> I don't think you have to zip-align it yourself. Depends on the ROM I think, it's probably a feature.
3. How many partitions do i must have on my sd-card and what size/file system must they be??? ( i know one must be for swap, one for dalvik, and one to expand internal storage but I don't know how big and which file system).
--> You need:
sd-ext (ext3 or ext4) - partition used to expand internal memory
fat/fat32 - normal partition
swap - depends on the ROM, CM7 by squad supports swap.. emanon v3 does not since it uses s2e, no option for swap..
--> Depending on the number of apps that you are planning to install, sd-ext can be 512MB or 1GB or 2GB. Swap value deplends as well, 32MB to 128MB, I think. I have not come across an article on what's the best value for this.
4. I want to use a custom kernel for undervolting(no OC is needed) and thus i need to move the dalvik to sd card as far as I understood, is there a tutorial or is it intuitive from the app that is used to do this???
--> did not find any.. not sure with other models.. for our mini, CM7 by squad has an undervolt option but not sure if it is working..

Hey, I just wanted to confirm that I will be taking all of the proper steps in putting CyanogenMod 3.6.8.1. Here's what I will be doing (I'm going to start from complete scratch - figured it would help a bit):
CURRENTLY ON JF1.51 CRB43
-------------------------------
Repartitioning 8GB Class 4 card with 700MB Ext2
Reverting back to RC29 via DREAIMG.nhb
Flashing recovery image in terminal
Installing HardSPL through recovery console
Installing JF1.51 ROM (Heard its smart to do this first)
Installing HTC Radio from http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html
Installing Cyanogen Recovery Console
Flashing CyanogenMod 3.6.8.1 ROM
Recovery console: upgrade_fs (EXT2 -> EXT3)
-----------------------
QUESTIONS THAT I HAVE
-----------------------
Will this ROM smoothly support the modified Rosie.apk from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532822 ?
Am I correct in assuming I do not need to install the Haykuro SPL?
Should I use Compcache from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537236 ? I have no experience whatsoever with swap files
Am I correct in assuming that I do not need to manually set up Apps2SD?
And most importantly: DID I MISS ANY CRUCIAL STEPS THAT I WILL REGRET DOWN THE LINE? Dont believe so, but better safe than sorry!!
Thanks every so much!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, I will be using Paragon Partition manager to partition MicroSD card if that makes a difference
you shouldnt have to redo all the steps. just wipe and flash his rom. also to my knowledge rosie will not run on a non-hero rom. you do not need haykuro's spl. i have put cm rom on phones straight from rc-29 with no problems. i do not know how to use paragon, but it is very easy to partition an sdcard through cyanogens 1.3.1 recovery. apps2sd is automatic with his rom. if it feels slow you can use compache but do not have to if you do not feel you need to. if you do want to go through the steps you have listed then you are set. hope i was able to answer some of your questions
Your ext2 partition is really large. 500MB should be well enough.

It sounds like you are coming from a brand new g1. If you already have root i wouldnt go back to RC29. And really dont see a point in installing JF 1.51 if your going to cyanogens. You'll just wipe it off anyways.
1. I suggest installing the Cyan's Recovery image first.
2. Then the newest radio and SPL.
3. Make sure you have adb setup (it makes things way easier)
if you want to run cyanogens i suggest 3 partitions although ive heard you can get by with 2. The 3 partitions are generally fat32, ext2/3/4 (2 or 3 is fine and usually is around 500 MB) and a linux-swap partition which is usually around 32 MB, and whatevers left out of your space on your sd card goes to your fat32.
4. If you want to upgrade from ext2 to ext3 then do the upgrade_fs
5. Use ADB and push over the update file or if you have a SD card reader i think you can do it that way.
6. Boot into recovery and do an alt-w (wipe) and alt-s (apply update).
7. Should be good to go from there.
Now for your questions:
1. No you dont need hykuro's SPL (sorry if i mis-spelled i dont use)
2. I personally do not use compcache and it runs ridiculously fast ( I do use linux swap)
3. As far as steps you may have missed. I believe the suggested advice is radio first then spl.
Lastly: There are guides and links to all the files you need right here on XDA. Use the search function as much as possible and the community will be glad to help out. If you have any questions you can get my contact info out of my profile, ill help as i can (im still pretty new to this).
Disclaimer: I AM NOT RESPONCIBLE FOR ANY BAD ADVICE THAT MAY OR MAY NOT LEAD TO THE BRICKING OF YOUR DEVICE.
Thanks for the replies everyone! Flashing it now, I'll report back on how it runs!
I'll be doing this tomorrow as well. Pretty straightforward.
Its so damned fast!!! lol It really feels like things open before I even push the button sometimes!
Many many thanks Cyanogen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always love a happy ending.
Another happy root user = possible next gen dev!
All I would of recommended was installing his Recovery image 1.31 and running a nandroid backup just incase you want to revert back to your old build.
Done and done
New sig speaks for itself...its ultra sexy (screenshots to follow once I find an old apk)
Right now I'm using CM 6.1.1 on my Nexus One. When I flashed CM for the first time I wiped my SD card right after I installed the ROM, so I really don't remember too much about what happened to my apps or anything like that. So, my question is, if I want to install CM 7, can I just wipe my phone with ROM manager right before installing it, and then not wipe my SD card afterwards? Will the apps, pictures, ect., that is on my SD card right now magically appear untouched on CM 7? I guess I'm just not sure how the SD card contents will be affected when flashing ROMs, and I'm not sure if after you flash a new ROM, the ROM can use all of the stuff that's on your SD card just like the ROM you had before did.. Does that kinda make sense? I feel dumb for asking all this. Also, when I save a backup of my ROM, the backup will just be a copy of all of my phone's internal memory and the operating system, right? And when I wipe my phone and install a new ROM, the new ROM just replaces all of my phone's old contents? So if I ever flashed my original ROM again, it'd bring back all of my phone's contents, system memory, operating system, apps installed on the phone, ect?
Thanks for taking the time to read my long, poorly written batch of questions Help would be very very appreciated!
SD card isn't touched when flashing ROMs.
You can restore your backup and it'll be all like it was.
If you use DT A2SD - things start being more complicated.

Yes, you can leave your SD contents as is, they won't be touched.

Pictures, Music, Videos etc that are stored on the SD card will remain untouched by flashing a new ROM, however apps are a different story. Basically you've got two main types of Apps on SD cards. The first is froyos implementation which is basically used to free up space on the phone memory but will not survive a wipe or flashing a new ROM. The alternative is Dark Tremors A2SD which uses a dedicated partition on your SD card (Created through recovery) to store apps by tricking the system into thinking the folder on your SD card is actually on internal memory. Once a new ROM is installed over the current (Which obviously must use DT A2SD also) these apps should be available again with their settings etc remaining.
I guess I'm just not sure how the SD card contents will be affected when flashing ROMs, and I'm not sure if after you flash a new ROM, the ROM can use all of the stuff that's on your SD card just like the ROM you had before did

Again, all data/media remains but apps require A2SD or its variants.

When you backup/nandroid you take a screenshot of sorts of your system. By default I think most recovery images save the boot, system, data and cache partitions when a backup is being made. Certain recoveries offer to backup other partitions such as sd-ext (Where A2SD stores the apps). Backups are designated by folders with a time stamp, I personally rename these to reflect the contents e.g. MM.v.20 tells me this is MicroMods v.20 of his GB ROM. Obviously yours will differ but I find this keeps things organised. Basically think of nandroid as the Android equivalent of Acronis true image or Norton Ghost for the PC. It lets you create any number of backups which will restore your device to the exact state at the moment of backup.
And when I wipe my phone and install a new ROM, the new ROM just replaces all of my phone's old contents?

A newly flashed ROM will basically restore your device to factory settings but on the new ROM. Once you've signed in to your Google account certain settings and content will be automatically downloaded e.g. Calendar appointments, Contacts. Other settings will not be restored e.g. Display brightness, alarms.
So if I ever flashed my original ROM again, it'd bring back all of my phone's contents, system memory, operating system, apps installed on the phone, ect?
Click to collapse
Nope, again it would return to the factory settings. However you can restore nandroid backups you have made of your original ROM which would return the system exactly to its previous state.
Basically if you're on a stock ROM it won't have A2SD. If you wish to use A2SD from now on then find a ROM which uses it, partition your SD card appropriately (Plenty of guides around) and you'll have minimal problems moving from ROM to ROM. As for Nandroid you'll find that most ROM devs recommend wiping all data from the phone (Not SD card) before flashing their ROM. Otherwise files or settings from other ROMs can cause some undesired effects on your current one.
Good luck and get reading the Nexus wiki, it's very helpful for these types of questions
Note: For some reason I vaguely remember someone noting that Froyos A2SD can be used to move apps to another ROM or at least the base app itself (If not the individual setup/settings) but I can't seem to find any info after a quick Google and it never interested me enough to look into it further. Perhaps someone can clear this up?

I dont think thats true.. suppose it's formatted during a wipe.. titanium backup serves the purpose like a charm.. (with all the settings for the apps and the resumes for the games)

I have a similar question to the OP. I use a 1GB EXT through DT's A2SD. If I wanted to flash a new ROM would the following be my step-checklist?
1 - Nand backup (just in case)
2 - Backup apps with Titanium
3 - wipe system data & cache
4 - flash new rom
5 - restore apps?
I'm just wondering what the procedure is to keep the apps in A2SD on a new flash without re-setting up.

yeah that would be fine..
btw 1: if you upgrading a cm nightly, you need not wipe system n cache..
2: if you do a titanium backup before, then you can finish all the steps in the recovery in one go..
n I dint quite get what you are asking. but from what I know, apps 2 sd folder (ie android.secure) is erased in a wipe.. that isnt changing

shreyas - thanks for your help.
I understand the A2SD (EXT) partition onthe sd will be wiped, but I'm assuming I would have to do nothing to get the new rom to see the ext and use it?
That's really my question. Would recovering my apps from Titanium push them back on the A2SD location or would I need to install A2SD again?
i don't think so..
I suppose that the pro version must support the direct a2sd.. but give it a try.. if it dosent work then you have do manually..

I've been tooling around with Sammy devices forever, and know my N1 pretty well EXCEPT for the whole "X-Y-Z" to flash a Sense rom. Is there a step-by-step written in layman's terms to safely try out some of these ports? Most instructions seem a bit ambiguous (I know, most N1 owners have been around since it dropped, thus no need to beat instructions to death) and I would love try some Sense-loving.
I have been around and around the Dev section here, but there seem to only be bits and pieces left in one thread or another...Forgive me in advance as Sammy and MotoGoogle are pretty easy to **** around on.
The procedure is the same for Sense/AOSP
Just read OP page and last 20 pages of thread for specific rom flashing instructions
Wiki on this Forum has a lot of how to's
But, if already rooted, just make sure you have bu's of phone and sdcard and partition card as suggested on rom OP page
Wipe ALL including system a couple times thru recovery before flashing new rom
What about the 'partitioning sd thing' I keep seeing, but no real explaination?
There are no complete easy step by step guides on everything
The wiki's are good to root, but don't cover partitioning
Most of us had to fumble through it with lots of research and googling
Are you rooted and which recovery are you using. I use Amon_Ra
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28338566/AmonRa 2.2.1.mht
As far as partitioning I use sdformatter to format sdcard outside of phone
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28338566/SDFormatter 2.0.mht
I set full erase and size adjustment to ON in sdformatter options
Back up card to pc first as well as backing up phone, if rooted do a nandroid back up and get apps like Titanium BackUp for app mgt from the market. Learn to use it before flashing roms. Terminal Emulator will be needed too. If using Terminal you will need this zip placed on the root of your sdcard to flash things like recoveries and kernels/hboots. Haven't done this stuff for awhile so bu, study, research and proceed at your own risk--
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28338566/flash_image Terminal
Once you format card, put it back in phone and boot into recovery. Once there you will have a partition sdcard option. You need to follow prompts to partition to 1.5gb and 0 swap. Depending on your recovery as in Amon or Clockwork process will vary, but result the same. If Amon, you will partition as ext2 first, then go back and partition from ext2 to ext3. All these prompts are there.
If using Amon you will need Temasek's Extreme Wipe to format System--Amon doesn't have this option yet
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28338566/Extreme-wipe.zip
If you don't wipe System with Data/Caches etc--some garbage will still be left behind when flashing between roms and can cause problems. I wipe all 3X
Don't know best Sense to try anymore, haven't flashed one for awhile. Maybe RCADS, think it has a2sd included and you don't need to flash other zips to run it. May still have glitches. First boot may take 15 minutes. If it continues to hang, pull battery. Some phones with lots of bad boot sectors don't handle these roms well--
I would read thru all of them and study up before just flashing one
Good Luck
Ken
hello, i am new to xda.. so please forgive me if i stated a wrong question or in the wrong section or even repeat the question as i couldnt get a fully satisfying solution searching the forum. i cant post directly in the developer section as i dont yet have access to it...so i posted in the QnA section.
so i have xperia x8 with stock kernel and i have flashed a custom rom PrimeHD v6.0 after reading thoroughly all the requirements and procedures.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480404
and then i had installed a tweak for cm7 roms: jimdemdroid
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379754
now the thing is i want to upgrade the present custom rom ie v6.0 to v7.0
but i am kind of unsure how to do it correctly.. i mean i know how to do it through the recovery.. but my questions are:
1. do i have to again factory reset/full wipe the phone again??..
2. do i have to clear all caches.. like the dalvik cache etc.. [i read it somewhere you have to delete all the caches]
3. will the applications INSTALLED on my external storage be affected if at all i require a full wipe?
4. since i have flashed jimdemdroid tweak, do i have to do full wipe in this case?.. ie if otherwise the wipe isnt required or so..
5. a detailed step by step instruction would be very appreciated!!
some off the topic questions..[just didnt want to open a new thread for these]
1. do i actually need the jimdemdroid tweak [even the lite version] on primehd mod.. as i dont see much difference except the bravia engine.. no to mention the dsp manager doesnt work now due to xloud drivers..
2. i had selected the install location in the cyanogenmod application settings to external. ie the apps shud now go to the sdcard.. but my internal storage now also gets filled.. and also in the normal application settings->manage applications-> i still find a 'move to sd card' button active.. if i already have installed the apps in the external storage [which also gets filled obviously] then that option shudnt be there.. or faded w/e..
i was on 6.0 (stock kernel) and i upgraded to 7.0 today
everything is working perfectly for me, even the wifi wich doesn't work on custom kernels work perfect.
if you ask me, i would remove jimdemdroid, because there is no big difference with or without it
i didn't wiped anything, and i used titanium backup for backuping everything (messages, contacts, bookmarks, calendars, apps) just in case
install and reboot only..
no need full wipe
The new update it will wipe your current system, with any changes made by you..e.x this tweak, but not your data
So
if you want it you must install it again(the tweak package..)
we clear the dalvik when we have incompatibles with apps
And also if we have force close with a app we delete in data/data /the file of this and reinstall it

Answer to your questions :
1. A full wipe is always recommended to avoid any type of possible bugs/errors.
2. Once you do a full wipe , clearing dalvik cache etc is NOT required
3. android.secure (applications on SD card) is formatted
4. Full wipe after flashing the tweak is not required. However if you face some problems/errors , do a full wipe
5. Just gave you the answers
Off topic answers :
1. PrimeHD is already stable enough. As such the tweak is not required.
2. When an application is moved to SD card , only some part is shifted to the SD card. The whole application is NOT transferred to the SD card. Did you try to click on the "Move to SD card" option. Probably your app wasn't even installed to the SD card in the first place.
thank you all for your replies..
ok so i get it like this
1. download primehdv7.0 files and move it to sdcard
2. reboot into cwm recovery
3. do a full wipe [optional- just to eliminate bugs by mere chance- though it will remove my messages contacts on internal storage and apps on external storage]
4. install zip from sdcard
5. reboot and done!
please confirm the above thing.. thank you.. and yes one more thing... if i dont do a full wipe.. do i require to remove caches and stats .. if yes.. then please mention all of them..
and @mayank77 for the offtopic answer.. i get it about the partial move of apps to sd... but i also read about the permanent solution to move complete app to sd.. ie via sdk manager following steps to setInstallLocation to 2 (external) via cmd using adb
but recently i tried this method on my friends mobile which is android 2.2 galaxy fit and it doesnt seems to work.. i rechecked the install location by pm getinstalllocation and it says there external.. but then too the internal storage was getting filled... now i suspected this method also as a partial moving to sd.. but no.. the whole app was installed in the phone memory.. any suggestions to that??
as I exp if you use other rom i always wipe my system ,,,and I use flash player after wards,, note if you dont know how to use flash tool pls do soo before performing wiping system on your cwm
@rezzen25 : flash player or flash tool??..
and i need a confirmation if the flashtool has to be used for sure.. as from the previous replies.. i dont think that we are to use flashtool..
personal satisfaction for doing safe measures is a different thing though.. and this isnt a new rom i am adding.. its an upgrade to the same rom..

First of all welcome to xda yeah for the clean installation of romm what u need to do is
1 WIPEdata/factory reset
2 wipe cache partion
3 in advance option wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats
this are the steps for clean installation
but i do not insists on upgrading the rom always do a clean installation
and for moving app2sd there is brilliant app called link2sd on the google play store it moves the complete app and dalvik cache too but for that u need to partion your sd card to ext3 or ext4 based on the app i am using ext4 partion

@rezzen25 : flash player or flash tool??..
and i need a confirmation if the flashtool has to be used for sure.. as from the previous replies.. i dont think that we are to use flashtool..
personal satisfaction for doing safe measures is a different thing though.. and this isnt a new rom i am adding.. its an upgrade to the same rom..

flashtool is used in the case of soft bricking or flashing the kernels not for flashing roms
instead do a clean install rather then upgrade my openion though
@ankitxperia : thanks a lot ... i exactly needed this reply.. i think i will do a clean install whatsoever
about link2sd.. yeah i will look for partitioning guide and give that a try... i read it somewhere that link2sd does all the job... but i was quite reluctant to try partitioning as i got to read and stuff.. but now... i will definitely read and do the partition..
and yes.. please tell if you have tried the sdk manager thing to install your apps to sd card directly.. as i said it didnt seem to work.. if you have tried it ie setinstalllocation to external.. please confirm that it works .. thank you..
O my fg...
Dude install and reboot for v7
Full wipe if the dev say it..
Like v8 who's say:
To install v8 make full wipe and don't ask why...
And also i read something for v9..
So wait and make 10 posts to make there your questions

Hey guys, I haven't been keeping up to date with the development of our Motorola Milestone recently, it's been almost 3 or 4 months since I last visited here.
So yesterday, I was just checking what's new and it seems our Milestone has started a new era of development with the 2ndboot! I'm not a developer or expert of any kind so I'm not sure what this does, but from what I've read, all I know is that this is a good thing for our Milestone
Anyway, I'm still running CM 7.2.1, I have FuFu's Minimod OpenRecovery v0.08 and want to upgrade them both to the latest versions. The thing is, I'm confused by the instructions, I have no idea what the swap config thing does, apparently we have to partition our SD card in order to work with the latest CM 7.2.4 or something, and apparently the rom comes pre-packed with a custom kernel so I'm not sure if I can just flash it just like usual or is there a special step to it etc.
As for the recovery, there's FuFu's OpenRecovery;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091787
As well as this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897048
So i'm not even sure which one to use. Currently, I'm using FuFu's MiniMod v0.08 so simply updating to v0.22 seems straightforward, but then there's kabaldan's post on that recovery for 2ndboot so I'm confused by which one I need......
Lastly, there's this swap config thing I was talking about:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951983
So ya I'm not sure what to do.
Can anyone please post some simple instructions? Thanks.
Fufu's minimod is based on kabaldan's 2ndboot OR which fixes writing to some sdcards, has battery charging... so it sould not make a big difference (fufu's recovery also has touch interface, etc). You can use either or try them both to see which one suits you better.
To update CM7 you simply Apply update in recovery. Then reboot (cm10 requires full wipe and an ext partition to be present or it won't boot)
The script allows you to configure swap file size (for now) and enable startup script to start swapping on boot. Don't use too high swap partition size or swap file size (this will probably require some experimenting). Or use zRAM/compcache (in cyanogen settings) to use part of RAM for swap. Or go without swap (again, will need some experimenting to see what configuration gives best results)

Hi mate, thanks for your reply!
Yup I know about the basics of flashing/updating a rom from the recovery, but what I was asking in my question was about those specific steps (like creating the ext partition that you've mentioned, as well as the setup for the swap configuration). The previous versions didn't have this so flashing/updating was pretty straightforward. But now, we need to to these specific steps in order to make the ROM flash or work successfully on our phone, so I'm not sure how to do it.
I know what ext partition is, but how do I create one? I've seen many instructions out there but I'm not sure they work specifically for this ROM, is there a particular size I need to create, etc etc?
Same goes for the swap configuration, what's the recommended setting that most people use without any problems?
No need to partition

I have been updating without changing anything like partition. Its working fine just apply the update thru recovery... as a matter of fact I have not even switched to 2nd boot recovery...
i try to hold my MiniMod OR up to date, so if nadlabak released a update of 2ndboot OR i merge it in my MiniMod OR
if you want to create ext/swap partition on your sdcard, you can just use my MinoMod OR, i include there a new menu called SD Tools, there you can resize the sdcard, so no data will be lose.
but safety first befor lose some data create a backup from the sdcard
in sd tools menu i also include my latest 98swapon script, it activate the swap partition an cm7/10 if there a extra partition, if not it creates a swap file to use for swap
