[Q] Is my phone bricked? - LG Thrill 4G

Hey, so I was trying to put a recovery.img on my phone using the terminal imulater and it didnt work, so i just cut my phone off and went about my business. When I tried to power it back on it did nothing. Even when I plug into charger it does not charge. I am rooted. I havent messed with any files in the phone or deleted anything. So im not sure why this would happen. Can someone please help me.

Yea, I tried pulling the battery out, different button combos and nothing. It wont respond to anything. Being plugged into the computer car wall just doesnt respond.

I Think it may be bricked...

Try flashing one of the o3d kdz files then root and put recovery on then try flashing thrill bb and rom

Was your phone previously rooted and did you have USB debugging mode on?
Sent from my LG Thrill 4G

If you can't get it working, and are still under warranty, they seem to be much more relaxed about rooting etc.... I did a similar thing, and called in. They replaced it no problem.

To add to my last statement, I even told them that I rooted the phone and was putting CWM on it.

mine bricked too
i bricked my thrill also and need help please it is rooted with stock rom cause i never could get the flash tool to work or adb commands so i left it stock but i need to fix it if possible i googled and googled but everything i tried just doesnt seem to work i may not be following directions well can anyone help it would be greatly appreciated since lg cant help

Did you try pressing the key combo for Recovery Mode for minimum a minute?
I don't know, Google will tell you. Maybe [Home + Power + Volume Up]..

Recovery mode.
[VOL DOWN + 3D] + POWER
Sent from my LG Thrill 4G

yes it is 3d volume down and power i did and the stock recovery comes up and it says cannot mount CACHE:recovery/command
cant mount CACHE :recovery/log
cant open CACHE :recovery/log
but i still went through all the options several times

Everyone can PM me. It would be easier for me to solve individual situations.

[FIX] Enable download mode by force adb push update.zip without permission

MY Phone Condition:
My phone was previously install with voodoo rom and use clockwork recovery to restore to my stock rom that i backup and it crash half way.
My phone was hardware lock this mean no matter how i press the volume and power button , i will never get into download mode. non of the method posted work !
My phone cannot use "adb reboot download" because there is no OS and it was stuck in the recovery loop.
It does not have clockwork recovery because i formatted my internal sdcard
If i do have clockwork recovery and i use restore image or install new from zip , i still stuck in the recovery mode after reboot several times.
My phone does not mount to internal sdcard because i don't even know what i did on this part.
I believe i screw up my partition of the phone.
DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
You need the Samsung USB driver and you can get it from Here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
First Part
1. Download update.zip from the link below. This was post by another member.
The post is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804305
2. Place the update.zip in tools folder so you can push it into your phone by using adb command
3. Plug usb into the phone and your phone should be on the Android system recovery <2e>
4. Use your volume button to select reinstall package, don't press power button yet.
5. constant "adb push update.zip /sdcard" from computer , you will get permission denied.
6. While you are constantly pushing the adb command from computer. press the power button on the phone so it install update.zip from sdcard.
7. This is the part where it force adb push into sdcard without permission
8. once the update.zip install completed. unplug the usb cable from the phone and take the battery out.
9. put the battery back to the phone then press on both volume button.
10. While holding both volume button , plug in your usb cable and it will boot to download screen.
If you need use Odin to flash your phone to original stock rom. Go to the Second Part
Second Part:
If you get black screen with only 4 light on the bottom after flashing from Odin.
Follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728698
There should be T959-PDA.tar,T959-CSC.tar and T959-Phone.tar within the package.
Check "Re-Partition" , "Auto Reboot" and "F.Reset Time" check box. Use the PIT 0512 version. Use "PDA", "PHONE" and "CSC" from the link above.
After flashing with Odin, you will loose the download mode. repeat the first part and you are good to go.
Here is the link on rooting the phone

You figure it out after all. I already stated the condition of my phone ! My phone was pretty bricked at that point. There is way for me to push any files into the phone because i don't have permission and my phone will not go to download mode by using the volume button. It just stuck at recovery mode.
There are guide out there teach you to use "adb push download". This method only work if you are in your phone and you turn on debug mode. My phone crash at the clockwork recovery bootloader. Then i formated my internal sdcard that hold the clockwork. next i push a stock update.zip that does not have su and busybox so i lost the capability to push anything into the phone.
no download mode , no permission, no sdcard --> You tell me how can i use the method that post few week ago ?

unfortunately, i was one of those careless people to brick my phone via Voodoo.
Firstly, i tried to "FLASH" the disable_voodoo zip file via Clockwork, i put it in root, and never created any folders. i knew i had to disable voodoo before flashing but my steps were wrong.
sadly enough, my phone was also HW locked, so i got it exchanged. now im not using voodoo YET and i my new vibrant can handle OC and has the recovery/download mode via buttons.

i use shell to create the file that disable voodoo. after disable voodoo , i was able to do restore and install new rom unfortunately after restore or install new rom , it still reboot into recovery.
I also forgot to disable voodoo, and this was before there were fix instructions posted. So i basically effed up my phone to the point of being stuck in the samsung recovery loop, no hardware download mode, no clockwork recovery, no update.zp, no adb download.
I really thought I had completely bricked my phone, I tried this just out of desperation and what do you know, push update.zip over and over and click and it goes through, which allowed me to get into download mode.

nice , you just have to re-root and install the new rom again , if it brick again , just use this method and you are good again.many of us forgot to disable the voodoo before we restore or install new rom and this crashes the phone.
Need some help really bad
Ok so I have a similar situation as you did (OP), only mine is a bit worse... In my irrational "in the moment" fear of the situation, I used adb reboot recovery to get into recovery mode (HW locked phone) and I did the option that deletes all the **** on the phone and restores the phone to its original format (I think it reinstalled the OS or something, because it looks brand new). So now, whenever I boot up, it does the annoying black screen with the 4 glowing buttons thing for a while, and then eventually the OS actually shows up on the screen. Then it does "scanning media" thing over and over again, but thats not the main problem. I figured, hey this isnt so bad atleast I found your thread and would be able to use your method to help restore my phone... the problem is that somehow my "settings" button is totally gone from the app menu, and I cant get it into debug mode, so I cant use either adb or your method or ANYTHING!! My phone is practically bricked as I cant do anything because its constantly laggy and turns back to the black screen thing, and then when it is showing the homescreen I cant do **** because even swiping to another screen takes like 5 minutes to do cause its so laggy. So basically I ****ed up, and I really need some help.. Im kinda a noob at this whole thing and im really outa options as far as I can tell.. does anyone know what I can do to repair my phone? Thanks!

[Q] Help. Thrill wont boot (at&t logo), messed up pretty good

1. Rooted
2. Don't think I had USB Debugging on prior to this situation
3. Didn't flash a rom (dont even know how)
4. don't have clockworkmod
I installed the root required app LCD density changer by beansoft... tried permanently changing my lcd density (resolution) to 200, looked back at phone several minutes later and it was stuck on the at&t logo. I didn't do a backup like they said, in case anything goes wrong (didn't expect anything to go wrong.........). Now, everytime I try to boot my phone, i get stuck at the At&t logo screen (NOT infinite loop... just frozen logo). I have tried factory reset multiple times... but ofcourse that didn't work because that doesn't affect system preferences ( like the density/resolution).
Beansoft suggests this to fix the issue... but i can't get it to work
densitychanger.blogspot.(com) (towards the bottom, where the highlighted green text is)...
How can i get that file onto my phone's memory? My phone wont even turn on. I tried putting it on the microsd card, but the file doesnt show up in recovery.
Someone please help me... I just want my phone working again... By whatever means... Flashing a new rom, the update.zip method by beansoft... idk ... just want it working...
HELP :'(
P.S. I dunno how to work adb... every time i try and use it, i get the "device not found" thing... ( i have the drivers installed)... So if that's how I have to fix my phone... PLEASE be very descriptive in instructions....

the 200 dpi setting does not work on the Thrill, which is why you are stuck in "bootloop"

Well looks like you're kinda screwed since you don't have clockwork installed, I'm not sure if you can install a new ROM... but have you tried EVERYTHING in android recovery?
If you don't know how to get to recovery... it's Hold down volume key + 3d + power, until it vibrates then use arrow keys to move around and 3d to select if you dont have clockwork...

Do you havet the emergency mode like most LG smartphones? Here is how you check pull out the battery and the plug it in(so your phone turns off) and then hold down the volume up +voulume down and power button if it worked you should see a yellow screen and a "Emergency mode!!" title. Then google for a kdz update tool and a kdz firmware for YOUR phone. You will also need the LG mobile united drivers. If you are on windows go to control panel and disable the lg modem. Then connect your phone(in emergency mode) to the computer open the update tool then click on select KDZ and navigate to your KDZ then in phone mode select emergency_something iys the only one.Than click flash KDZ and after about 5min your phone should reboot and it wilk work. Its importiant to note that you will lose everything on your phones memory its like you flash a rom you start out fresh you also loose root.Good luck!

Dont be sorry im just trying to help ya out our device has zero support from LG. When you select the files to flash use both the .bin and fls to flash you gotta find the P925.dll i think its in the dev forum here i dont remember which post though
Thrill 4g on O3D
Try the installing gingerbread and back to stock thread i think its in the mediafire download on there
Thrill 4g on O3D
I don't think i have the emergency download mode... I tried the button combination but it didn't work... so I still can't get my computer to recognize my phone to do anything...
Or try flashing a kdz for p920 then do the bin flash to get it back to stock froyo cuz you have to install the driver with phone pluged in and recognized

Im having the same problem as the person before me, but my phone is stuck on the lg logo screen. My phone is rooted and I do believe I have installed clockworkmod when root manager asked me to. My phone froze on me while going through the root manager app, when I tried formatting it through the reboot screen I ended up with E: can't mount CACHE:recovery/ command, E: can't mount CACHE:recovery/log, and E: can't open CACHE:recovery/log.
I've tried following instuctions from this site: http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-flash-lg-thrill-4g-to-android-2-3-gingerbread.html

You don't have clockwork then. That is your stock recovery.I had this problem too.I flashed the wrong recovery and i got stuck on the LG logo.I fixed it using fastboot flasher idk is it the same combination but on my phone it is volume up+call+power button.Uf it is correct you should see a sign saying fastboot mode udc_start or something like that then use the fastboot flasher to flash a recovery image for your phone. After the flash is complete reboot your phone but first do a NORMAL boot so you can see if the problem is solved. If it worked then you can safely boot into recovery.

Thank you for your support guys, but as it was to difficult, I just got a new one from at&t
I am in similar situation but I am rooted AND I have CWM on my phone. I can boot into recovery just fine and install from sd card and all that jazz but when I try to boot normally I don't get past the LG logo. It just hangs there forever. Do I just have to get a flashable ROM onto the SD card and boot into recovery and flash??
I have already tried wiping data, cache and dalvik to no avail.
Any suggestions??

I rooted phone, everything fine. I flashed CWM, everything fine. When I rebooted system from CWM then phone booted but hung at the LG logo. Now only thing I can do is boot into recovery or boot to the LG logo for hours... Don't even know how this could have happened as I haven't flashed anything, just root and CWM...

E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log - bricked?

So I was putting V21A on my p925g, got it on and working fine, rooted it, and then when I started to flash CWM, it started acting funny. It told me to mount the SD card, so I went into options and mounted it, everything seemed fine. I then went to flash CWM again and it told me to mount the SD Card again, so I restarted my phone, and thats when it stopped working.
When I boot into Android System Recovery <3e> it says:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't open CACHE:recovery/log
and if I try to wipe data/cache/ or any of the options, it says completed, then it says E:can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
So.. am I totally screwed now..? Is there a way I can have my device recognized by USB so I can re-flash V21A, or recover the phone?

Yes it boots to the logo, but the problem is I can't get it to be recognized as a USB device.. Therefore I can't flash, or do anything like that..
Edit: Also I've tried to get download mode to work, but I can never seem to actually get it to work.

Haha okay thanks a lot, I'll see what happens. I'm at school right now, with my phone in my backpack.. I was going to see if I could get a replacement, but it sounds like I could fix it, if not I'll see if dark can help me!
That sounds like a problem I can definitely fix.

Haha okay, I'll hold you to it if I can't get it fixed tonight.
When I attempt to start my phone in download mode, in device manager COM&LPT section will show up with an Unknown device under it, then quickly disappear - There is a bubble in the bottom right that says there was a problem installing hardware.. Any ideas?

Haha thanks anyways, I managed to get it working. My problem was holding down the power button too long, which would shut the phone off.. >.<... Your thread is very good, and straight forward, ive learned quite a bit about my phone. Just a tip to others who flash the v21a - root using super one click, and then flash CWM via dark's flash manager, I tried to flash through rom manager, and it gave me the option for the optimus x2, thinking nothing of it, i flashed it which was the source of my problems.. im now using the King 3D rom.. has everything I need, the only downfall for me is frequent browser crashes..

Well that's great that you got it!
Optimus 3D with an identical problem
Hi guys,
UK based noob here in desperate need of some help! My LG Optimus 3D won't boot past the stock Android recovery screen. When i select "Wipe cache" etc it displays "can't mount CACHE:recovery/log".
Using the method of pressing volume up & power button i can get Windows to recognise the phone when looking at Device Manager (it shows "LGE mobile composite USB device"), but ADB doesn't let me communicate with the phone and neither does any other program.
Please please please can someone help me?! How can i fix my phone?
BACKGROUND-
I got to this stage after doing the following: i used LG Mobile Update (after a LOT of messing about trying to get it to work) to update to Android 2.3.5. It kept all my data and settings but unrooted my phone. So i re-used SuperOneClick to root my phone again.
Upgrading to Android 2.3.5 didn't give me the updated stock email app, so i wanted to try and update that myself. I went into ROM Manager.. and here is where i think i made my mistake. Instead of flashing ClockworkMod Recovery as i would do normally to do a backup image of my phone, i instead went straight to "Backup existing ROM" in the main ROM Manager page. My phone rebooted itself.. and now i am where i am. Screwed!

I'm not exactly sure, but once I got my phone in download mode (volume up + power) I just used dark lestat's guide to flash the european V21A KDZ. Once I flashed that, I downloaded his recovery manager, and flashed CWM that way. The first time I flashed CWM via rom manager is what caused all my problems..

Yeah that's where I went wrong too.
I seem to be able to get it in some sort of download mode, but I'm not entirely sure. I use the volume up + power button technique. I used the LG update software to download a recovery image and it started updating the phone, but when it gets to 15% complete it says the connection between the computer and the phone has been lost. It's really annoying!
I'll re-read Dark Lestat's guide and try that. Thanks for your response.
Got it working! Dark Lestat's guide worked a treat. I honestly thought I'd bricked my phone.

[Q] Potential FULLY bricked Note.

This is my first post, go easy on me! I own a few Android devices, all rooted, and flashed over probably hundreds of times. I know all the risks associated with it, and I take full responsibility for anything that happens to my devices. I've never had any problems in the past getting around recovery and dealing with custom ROMS...nothing that can't be fixed anyway (boot loops, force closes, ect...).
I've never seen so many problems with recovery than I have with the Galaxy Note, however. I mean, if you can't depend on a recovery to work, what are you to depend on? I had a bit of a panic flashing some of the ICS leaks, but all was resolved. No biggie. Everything was running smoothly, and somehow my recovery became fully operational again. I was able to mount /system...and was fully able to flash from CWM again, as opposed to Redpill.
Okay, long winded I know...but here I am. I just flashed angelom's newest kernel with touch recovery. "Cool" I thought. Couldn't hurt. So I went in to do a wipe of /cache and it hung up. No biggie again. I held down the magic three buttons, and when I rebooted back into recovery, I get this....over and over again.
"E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
No files found."
I've tried flashing Redpill again and installing, restoring stock back up, powering down and taking my battery out for a while...bashing my head on the wall. No matter what I do, it doesn't get past the Samsung logo. It was hanging up on booting before, but now it won't even go that far. Do I venture down the path of Odin (which I still am not entirely sure how to use)...or do I have a full brick on my hands? Looks like I might have fried the internal storage. If that's the case, I'm ****ed...simply put.
Anyway, ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully someone else has run into a similar problem and has a fix...no matter how complicated. Thank you for your time!
Try getting into Download mode (Volume down + Home + Power). If you can do this, then just flash any of the older stock Roms with PC Odin - these are easily rootable using zergrush method - and keep on flashing.

I can do that! I was always skeptical of ODIN, but it might be a life saver now.
Okay, so I get the little green Android guy and it says "Downloading...Do not turn off target!" So then I download PC Odin, connect USB cable and flash away? Sounds simple enough. I'd really hate to think I have a 700 dollar paperweight. I'll do some homework first. Thank you, by the way!

Yes. Go here, download N7000XXKK9 stock Rom and flash it with PC Odin.
Then go here, and root it using Method 2: Root + CWM recovery.
I use Linux, so I'll have to wait to use my friends Windows PC. Installing a virtual box is more trouble than anything. This is how I rooted my device the first time. They don't make things simple for us Linux users! Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. Thanks again!

Edited: Sometimes after flashing stock Rom you get into bootloop when Odin restarts the phone. Don't panic if this happens. Pull out your battery, wait a bit, put it back, boot into stock Recovery (Volume up + Home + Power), and do factory reset and cache wipe. Reboot and enjoy.
I got the same thing tonight!!! Damn!
I can't do anything with /data partition in any version of CWM - RedPill too. It just hangs. It can't be wiped or formatted. And phone doesn't boot. I flashed KKA 1 file firmware via odin, but the phone still doesn't boot. I'm now downloading KK9 in hope that it is 3 file (because I can't find info whether it is 1 or 3 file) to try to flash it. Also using pit and repartition could fix it, but I am frightened by messages "do not ever tick repartition or you get brick".
Very sad.
guys, i need help please. My Note not work in download mode and cwm recovery. I made a homemade JIG, but not works, too. I tested the homemade JIG in a galaxy ace and in a galaxy S2 and enter instantly in download mode but in galaxy note no. my pc and other pc does not recognize the phone either. Can I do anything?
Thanks

Yup...exactly...my /cache partition seems fine now...but it's hanging on /data too! Did you flash the new touch kernel from angelom too? I don't want to point fingers, but I would at least like to know what the "root" cause is. Anyway, instead of using ODIN, I used Heimdall. I'm at pretty much the same place I was before, except now I have Samsung's recovery....
Anyway, I'll keep flashing different firmwares, and I'll see where we get.
Edit: I used a .pit file as well. Was I not supposed to do that? I don't think it did any harm, as my phone still turns on!

Okay, so I have an idea. I flashed the repack kernel and got CWM back...but obviously my /data partition is still ****ed. Would it be possible to do a repartition of it? Do I need an ICS pit file to do this?...because I noticed the Chainfire repack has a data.img, and I tried flashing it using a GB .pit file, and it hung up...so, I think this might be my last hope!
Hey I also flashed the new ICS kernel posted by angelom...
And having same problem....
getting errors like this while entering CWM
E:can't mount/cache/recovery/command
E:can't mount/cache/recovery/log
E:can't open/cache/recovery/log
E:can't mount/cache/recovery/last_log
E:can't open/cache/recovery/last_log
Okay, so I feel a little better that it's not just me! Obviously no one, including the developer, is to blame...but the kernel is definitely the cause, and I'm having trouble with the fact that I might be spending 650 on another phone, just for the simple fact that I thought it would be intuitive to have a touch recovery. Grrrrrrr.....
thanks for your help, but my note not have signals of life. Thanks

Sorry to hear that elliot. Is it under warranty/ensured?

I went in to wipe /cache as well, and that's when it all happened. I don't have a complete brick, but it might as well be. If I can get into recovery and download mode, but nothing works, then what good is it? A constat bootlooping phone is no phone at all. I don't insurance, and as far as I can tell my warranty is void. So I think my best option would be to send the phone directly to Samsung and see what they can do. It's better than nothing.

Yes, it happened right after I flashed angelom 1.1. I used ver 1.0 for some time, didn't try to wipe data, but rom was running OK. Then I flashed imilka's v0.3 and angelom 1.1 on top, tried to wipe data and got that error message. After that, my phone hangs on boot logo and can't do anything with /data partition, and I can't restore any of my backups - it says error in /data. I flashed stock KKA firmware with odin, it didn't fix /data - stock recovery also can't wipe it.
Samsung galaxy note completely dead !!
my rooted galaxy note was on rocket rom which i updated to ics theme, and without rebooting i flashed the zip file to reset binary data count.
all this was happening in cwm.
then i opted to reboot to system and my galaxy note never rebooted.
what to do? where do i go?
phone s rooted but wont go into cwm mode, nor into flashing mode,,, does not even charge...

sometimes it doesnt recover, i had it with the hd2 aswell, it isnt a note specific issue, as for the title, it is misleading, a brick is not being able to turn the phone on, seeing as you coudl where did you get the notion it was bricked?
the errors in the recovery are standard if no rom is installed

D405n Completely Hard Bricked

So, I've been looking online for some help, people have the same problem, except I'm not able to fix it the way they did. Meaning when told to put my phone into Download mode, I try put it into download mode. I try put it into Recovery mode. Doesn't go into recovery mode. This is what happened:
Note: My phone is rooted.
I tried to flash my phone with Cyanogen Mod ROM 11. I only had the stock recovery mode. I tried to install the TWRP recovery to flash CMR (Cyanogen Mod ROM - just so there is less to read), so once I put it into my internal SD root, I went into terminal emulator, typed "su" first, then the command (I forgot which one it is, but it starts with dd. I am a noob, forgive me). I then went into recovery mode using my phone (Volume Down + Power Button, letting go and pressing them again when the LG Logo shows), and it only gave me an option to to completely wipe my phone. I typed into Terminal Emulator "reboot recovery", and I got an error. I turned the phone off, and back on. I saw that apparently the bootloader was stopping it because of security (I have Android 5.0.2 Lollipop). I put a script I found online (From here, on XDA), put it on my internal SD root, done the dd command, and made sure the other file was on my external SD. Before it said to reboot, I had to flash the CMR using Flashy, so I did. I asked to reboot so I did. And that is how I got Hard Bricked. I'm currently waiting for the Stock ROM to download, so I can use the LG Flash Tool. This is what I'm following, to try and unbrick my phone.
http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-flash-unbrick-lg-l90-back-to-stock.html

I came here to see if anyone can provide better help. My phone won't show anything on the screen, no download boot, recovery boot, etc. My phone should have 4GB, but once plugged into my computer it says http://i.imgur.com/wwrag1P.png Removable Disk (G is my Micro SD in the adapter, and Removable Disk (K is my phone. Here are the folder in it. http://i.imgur.com/0cl1lMg.png

For anyone that will suggest taking my phone apart, to do a JTAG repair, I don't want to mess my phone up any further, and would wonder if someone could refer me to a trusted person who could do it safely for me.
If you read this all, thank you for your time. Hopefully someone can help me. If nobody has replied by the time I tried the LG Flash Tool, I will edit this under here to state whether it's fixed or not.
Fixed? Nope. :crying:

That's the problem. When my phone is connected to the Computer, I have under 100MB storage when it should be 4GB. I try everything to get my phone to show anything, nothing does. The only time something comes up, is if the battery is just about to die, or the phone is being charged without a battery in. In ADB, I type "ADB USB", then it comes up with Null. I type "ADB Devices" and my phone isn't there. I followed the way to unlock my bootloader on XDA, which the poster claimed it was for all LG models, but it didn't work and Hard Bricked my phone instead.
I think the only way to get out from your problem is let the android shop repair your phone
