CSC and EFS on a Malaysian Phone - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
After a week of flashing and rooting my phone the problem is still here so I come to the source.
I bought a Galaxy Note in Kuala Lumpur. This one was only having Asian Languages and English. So back in France, I flash it with the last KL7 (without saving anything off course) to have it in French, but I have a problem I lose the carrier at the end of the day
After some check I understand that I lose the EFS (my IMEI is empty) so I flashed my phone with an old KKA, rooted it and using mobile Odin pro, flashed it with the KL8.
Each morning, I have to import the EFS, reboot the phone to having back my carrier.
Please have you an idea of what can happen??? I'm going to try to put Malaysian (XME) CSC, maybe...
There's no answers to my problem on the French Forums so I try here
Thank you for your help.
Olivier

Please... I don't know what to do now...
Hi,
After trying many solutions, I still loose my carrier after some minutes or hour sometime... I shut down the phone, wait, restart and the carrier come back. Very strange... Please help me

Pre-Update, Research of Chinese Galaxy S

Dear all
I write this post as I hope to get some input and some expert suggestions on the course of action I should take with my phone.
For many years I have been supplied with a phone through my company but it seems to be always the crappy old Nokia. Good for making telephone calls but worthless for anything else.
So recently I bought a Galaxy S on a business trip to China. I love the phone, it works and by now I have almost no Chinese letters and applications left anymore. This is really something else; I'll never go back to the company Nokia. Never!
I think most of the applications are working and I have access to the Android Marked. However, Youtube is not installed or working and I think that the GPS is a little off.
Now I read a lot about Froyo and I bet I would want to get that on my phone, I am also pretty sure that I want to get the phone totally de-Chinese and preferably into something Danish or at least English.
What do I do next?
I have been reading so much on this site that I am getting dizzy. Flashing, rooting, updating, kies(hey, I actually got it working now (again) ) Odin, JM1, JPK etc.
Now my phone has the following;
ProductCode: I9000HKDVD2
PDA: I9000XXXXX
Phone: I9000BUJG1
CSC: I9000GVD2JG1
SalesCode: VD2
Reading through posts on this forum I never saw anyone with the same codes as mine.
Model number: GT-I9000
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number: ECLAIR
As mentioned, I bought the phone in China and I have no idea if it is branded (with Google printed on the back cover) has been unlocked, but I suspect it has. It has been rooted (I have a little black ninja guy giving Superuser Permission) and there is a folder-like icon named "root(and some Chinese letters)"
Well, as I said I have Kies running again. First it was running fine then it stopped connecting to the phone and now after unmounting the external SDcard I can again access the phone from my PC.
Through Kies I can do a firmware update. But should I?
Will it be re-locked?
Will it get all the Chinese stuff back?
Will it somehow be converted into a European phone?
Should I wait for the official Froyo or just go ahead and update?
I can update again when the Froyo finally arrive?
Do I need to make backup of any of my "system" files before doing anything?
Any help suggestions and/or warnings will be appreciated.
If you can do an upgrade through Kies it will aslo tell you what the update is (JG2 for example) since you have what I gues is a chine salescode, you will probably get a chinese update .. What you can do, is goint to the devlopers section and read the topic about spoofing your productcode in the registry so Kies thinks you have phone from another provider / country than that what you have now
I am almost certain that if you can enter an old danish firmware in the registry and a danish productcode you will get offeren a new new danish firmware through kies ..This will not relock your phone ( if it was locked before) as far as I know only the froyo builds will do that.
I have been reading some more on the forum and found that the phone is actually branded.
Model [Country of Origin](Branded Phone Carrier) = Code
I9000 [Germany](Vodafone) = GT-I9000HKDVD2
I have also checked out the 3-button combo which seems to be disabled on my phone. I'll get this fixed before doing anything.
So I want to update to the froyo release and will probably be uding the Kies hack to do this. I'll use the XEE code which I believe will give me the danish language as an option.
Do I need to make backup of some of the system files before doing this?
In some poste there is talk about backing up some system files before upgrading as there is some information which is needed to unlock the phone again.
Well. I am still investigation this issue.
Now I am looking into using odin and firmware from samfirmware . com. Probably to JPA or JPO? Then I have been reading about the DocRambone ROM and will probably try that.
However they suggest to "- Check Simlock and Network lock is OFF *#7465625#". When I do this I am promted with a "Rejected" message.
Can anybody please tell me what this means?
I do not want to start messing with it before I know that the phone will not be locked after flashing to new firmware?
If it will be locked then what is the procedure of unlocking anagin. I have already made backup of the "nv_data.bin.md5" and the "nv_data.bin". Having these files is the same as having backup of the /efs? Reason for asking is that I cannot find /efs on the root of my phone.
Please help!

[Q] No IMEI after SBF update

Hi there! I'm from Argentina.
I had a problem a week ago, when I tried to root my Motorola Milestone.
When I updated the SBF and applied an update.zip (just to avoid the OTA 2.2 update problem) my IMEI went blank.
I did't even root it yet. The problem is that I have the "NO SERVICE" legend.
Tried flashing some Argentinian (and other countries) Radios but nothing happened.
Then, when I press *#06# no IMEI shows on screen, just a box to press OK.
My IMEI was: 356698030155635
And my carrier is: PERSONAL (AKA: UNIFON Argentina).
My phone it's not on warranty period, and technical services here don't know how to solve my problem.
Is there any way to put back my IMEI? If not... What can I do or what can I try?
I can't use my phone
I'ld try anything available... can't get any worst.
Anyone had the same problem?
Thnx in advance for your help!
PS: Sorry for my English.
--- UPDATE:
Well... Just made the update process from stock all over again, like 3 times. Now IMEI reading is correct.
I don't know why it got cleared, but now works for me...
Thnx anyway! I Love this forums.

[Q] Galaxy S, sim card doesn't work after flashing rom

Hi everybody,
yesterday I flashed my phone with the original rom it was shipped and now the sim card does not work. The phone was network locked and I'm afraid that now it does not recognize any rom because of this.
I tried to do the procedure of simlock by rooting the phone but no codes appear after I launch sgux in the file.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

it could well be that your sim is dead if you left it in the phone while flashing. happened to me and it was quite weird, i could make and receive calls and messages, but 3g was dead. the guys at the 3 shop were quite amused as they have not seen anything like it before. anyway, try the sim in another phone, see if that works. ultimately flash to an unbranded rom and try a different sim on your phone.
Hi... I need some help please...
im a noob, and i have the same problem...
i have a samsung galaxy s i9000b factory with eclair

You say you have the original shipped rom .
If thats the case just flash that back if it truly is the original shipped rom .
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Darky rom problems as usual ask the chief suspect .Its probable you did not flash correct CSC file for your network .

[Q] Galaxy Confused Itself? No Service NZ

Well here is my very first post. After much research and study on this site, I have finally confused myself or my phone or both.
So I recently got my hands on my first Galaxy s GT-i9000, bought from a Ukraine guy here in NZ.
Everything works normally except i have no service anywhere i try. Thats how i got it cheap.
It came with VNZ 2.3.3 GB update and with the unknown IMEI problem.
After many attempts, I had managed to get the IMEI and baseband back.
I have since discovered that the original nv.data.bin file was setup for Israel network, Cellcom.
I have tried to flash it with Vodafone firmware again and all seems fine except for No Service. It says its on GPRS mode and the signal is -111dBm 1asu with no change at all.
I have then tried flashing to Cellcom rom that i finally found but it ends up with unknown IMEI AND baseband and I can't seem to get it loaded onto this firmware. But does it really matter what firmware/modem it uses, especially since the phone is in New Zealand.
I've checked and it says it is all unlocked, so it seems that way. But neither Samsung NZ or Vodafone can tell me the real lock status since the phone wasn't originally setup for NZ.
What to do? Anyone from NZ with an imported phone having this issue?
So anyone with this experience got some ideas?
I'm not 100% sure if this is relevant to your situation, but do you have a backup of your EFS?

I've made several backups. They seem to vary though because of the different roms I've flashed with odin.
Sometimes it changes product I'd depending on what regional firmware I try. For example at the moment its running on VNZ but the product I'd is showing up as I9000HKXCEL when it should be set for vodafone. I'm working out how I could change the EFS so that the default code is NZ.
Would it work by editing somehow the product code inside the nv_data.bak file? Would that ruin the IMEI? I have backups over backups if I were to test.
Hey,
NZer (quite an inexperienced one when it comes to Android but I'll try my best) here as well
Uhm. Check the back of the phone, behind the battery. I believe the IMEI of the phone should be written there. Look through your backups and see if any match.
Also, firmware doesn't matter. Think this phone was bought here, but I'm running a UK firmware on it (and previously a Korean one) and its fine.
That's about as much as I can help :/
Sent from my GT-I9000
Hey there thanks kiwi.
Its a weird one I have. I'm currently stuck on vodafone firmware because now when ever I change rom the imei goes away and backups seem to be gettin less reliable lol.
hmm I'm now wondering about what the correct permission and owner settings should be for the efs folder and files. Been using root explorer for most of my alterations.
AW: [Q] Galaxy Confused Itself? No Service NZ
Tutorial:
Download last stock Firmware Form Samfirmware and flash it with odin or heimdall

Thanks for your advice pidio.
I must be doing something wrong.I've I've flashed from sams site and have tried both the latest VNZ 2.3.3 and the latest cellcom israel 2.3.3.
Only one that's working so far is Vnz but when I check with SGSToolbox, the product code is showing cellcom in both the nv_data.bak and data.bin.
It seems my imei or efs setup is "stuck" and won't give me a break through with essentially the "no service" issue.
Hardware wise, despite the bluetooth and WiFi working fine, although chewing the battery life badly and heating up quickly, can the GSM CDWMA part die out separately?
hmmm
Boy I'm so glad I never had this much trouble with the good ol' budget Huawei X5.

[Q] Lost IMEI

Hi guys,
A friend of mine made her Galaxy Note "fly" on a wall (being a bit bored obviously... )
After that the phone had no network.
Checking it, I found the plane mode was ON and unable to turn OFF, and the IMEI was null/null typing *#06#
I tried then to flash via Odin the only firmware I found at the moment, which was a 1 part 4.1.2 XEF (found and got on Sammobile), which made a real update though the phone was still on 2.3.6
The flash got OK, I could turn the plane mode OFF, but still no IMEI
Tried to flash the 16 Gb pit > all the same.
I eventually found a 3 parts 2.3.6 firmware, and as we "saved" some SGS with the 3 parts JVU, rebuilding EFS rep like magic, I tried.
The flash was OK, but still no IMEI.
Guess what, no EFS save to restore.
If someone has any idea, though I definetly think it's over and needs to be sent to repair...
Thanks by advance
One more detail : sneaking the efs folder with ES Explorer, I discovered that the nv_data files are missing!
My feeling right now?
"Houston? We have a problem! "

no imei
i have the same problem no imei no signal and sim not detected. Any clues ? tried many things already
Hi,
Nothing new for me.
The Note went back to my friend to be repaired.

I have the same problem I have my IMEI number at the back of the Phone but no way to write it to my Note2 I wish someone can please help us.
As far as I know, we don't have simple ways to rewrite an imei.

Did you try this one?
I did personally not, though the nv_data files did not exist anymore in the efs folder.
