Hi there,
I have a samsung galaxy s i9000phone wich is dropped in the pond and taken out immediately. (Last christmas)
The phone had dried for several weeks wit backplate of and the battery out.
I got this phone yesterday and wanted to repair it.
So I pulled it apart and heated it to about 45 degrees centigrate (113 fahrenheit).
I cleaned some corrosion of it with an cubestick and a mild cleaning solvent and let it dry for some hours.
Then I reassembled the phone and loaded the battery wit the wall charger.
So yesterday late in the evening I tried to turn it on, it didn't work. So I tried the 2 volume buttons and the On button to get it in to download mode. Nothing happend. So I let it rest for the rest of the night.
Then this morning it tried the other combo Volumedown+home+On buttons. It went in to download mode! so I was very optimistic.
After a while trying to find the right drivers (win7 x64) (Kies installed wouldn't read the phone) (even tried these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956). I found a couple and tried even more it didn't work. Sometimes it would see the device as an unknown usb device but couldnt install the driveres for it.
So I tried connecting it to Odin, that didn't work. So i tried Heimdall. This didn't recognise it neither. Heimdall didn't see the driver neither. It only showed Bluetooth and Digital camera. It showed both with the phone connected to the laptop and unconnected.
The phone gets in to download mode or In an black screen with some sort of circular symbol which doesnt rotat or do nothing. I can't boot the phone into a normal mode.
I've googled my ass off and found numerous pages with kies not connecting and driver woes and bricking the phone. But nothing helped me.
Screen works fine btw. Battery gets charged. But doesnt show this on the screen.
Is all hope lost?
dude... put it in a plastic bag with some rice. that should evaporate the water leave it for 3 days
This will help solve my problem? You think it's not dry yet?
Thought it would be dry by now, it has been lying around since christmas.
Is the rice in the bag-trick the only way to solve this? Will it solve it?
It's not booting into the galaxy s screen neither.
Do i take whole wheat or normal white rice?
Greets,
VeldMuijz
This is pretty funny actually.
I just found this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203802&page=2
And near the bottom of the second page someone suggested to clean the usb port of the phone with an toothbrush. I am in the office so i picked a staple and gently cleaned the usb port.
So ok fine. Plug it back in to the pc in dl mode, OMG! Odin sees it because win7 began installing the drivers (couldn't before). The drivers installed are Samsung USB Composite device and Samsung Mobile Modem #2.
Now when i put it in download mode kies sees it. Nice. But doesnt seem to connect
But what next, do i just flash the thing with original firmware and try to boot?
Do I dry it some more?
I added a photo of the circular figure showing on my phone. When this appears my laptop doesnt recognize it (probably because its powered off) and when i go into download mode it does get recognized.
IMO if you can get Odin to recognize it, flash it via odin. Kies isn't particularly reliable
Ok good.
Any body elses opinion? (nothing personal nwsk)
And since I don't know how full my battery is (i don't see the loading battery pic on my display) is it safe to keep it in the charger overnight and then go flash it in the morning?
Which would recommend Odin or Heimdall?
Thanks a bunch.

If you flashed using Heimdall already it's up to you, but if you didn't I'd recommend Odin, because it's simpler. Also, there were times when Heimdall didn't detect my SGS, but Odin did.
I used odin with the i9000xxjvr rom for the i9000.
Didnt work the first time, i tried again then it worked.
With partition ticked, but phone didn't boot.
Again but with partition unticked, didn't boot.
Odin says it has finished succesfully and i see the downloading happen on my screen with the download icon.
Then it goes in to the screen of which i posted a picture above.
Is there something else i could try?
I would try a New battery, looks like it's not taking a charge. Only a few pounds on ebay.
Though that symbol i posted a picture off can stay on for a looooooooooooooooong time.
gt-i9000 is cheap already
buy a new or used one
dude thats the symbol you get just before it shows the battery, try flashing darkyrom 10.2 resurrection,or re its the same
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/v10-2-final-what-are-you-waiting-for.4253/
Will try thanks.

But when i hook the phone up to the wall charger it gets enough voltage to startup or am i seeing this wrong?
It broke? I have been hearing stories about Galaxy S surviving after being dropped and flushed in the toilet
Hello all. I would suggest to try first with sone "basic" rom. Another question just popped up to my mind is whether getting into restore is possible and from there to see if mounting volumes is possible before booting....
Recovery mode i mean... sorry
Recovery mode was the Volume up+home+power on button? This trick didn't work, with power cable in or out. The other combo Volume up+Volume down+power on didnt work neither.
Download mode seems to work every time though.
There is a very good possibility that the mainboard is fried though..

Stuck at "Samsung Galaxy" boot screen, cant get into bootloader, computer wont detect
Hey everyone this has been a huge hassle for me for the last few days and was hoping someone could help me. I have had to resort to using my HTC Legend...which I love but it doesnt have what I need.
I was in recovery the other day trying to load a custom rom through the CWM and I went through and accidentally hit "format system". I couldn't cancel the process so I knew something bad was going to happen....I reboot the phone and for the last 3 days I have had it plugged into the Usb charger with no luck of booting, it has been stuck at the "Samsung Galaxy S 19000M" boot screen and no further. I took the battery out and tried rebooting it after a few minutes. No luck with this either, still stuck at the Samsung screen. I CAN get into "DOWNLOAD MODE" but I CAN NOT get into recovery/bootloader (hold volume up/home button/power button).
I have put it into download mode and and plugged it into the computer (I am running Windows 7 64-bit) and it will not detect it. I have all of the correct drivers, I know this as I have a friend who owns the exact same phone and my computer detects it just fine. Odin nor ADB will detect that there is anything AT ALL plugged into the computer. It does not even come up as, "android device", or "storage", there is nothing, nota, it is as if the phone isn't even plugged in. It will not detect in "download mode" nor while its stuck at the "Samsung Galaxy S" screen, and yes I have tried a different USB cable, and still nothing..
I am quite capable with electronics but I cannot find anything on the internet as of what to do. Is there anything that I could load on an external SD card that would force the phone to flash a ROM with new kernal and modem? I think the phone is empty that is why it is not booting, as if there is nothing to load on the phone. Is there anything at all that anyone can think of??? I am completely stuck. I wanted this phone to last until the Samsung Galaxy S 2 was released here lol.
I'm with Virgin Mobile Canada. Thanks!
Cant you get it into Recovery mode?
Have you tried heimdall?
You will have to follow the instructions coming with it to the letter (about installing some custom USB-driver).

well if you have download mode then dont panic.
just flash a 3 file firmware along with pit file and re-partition and you will be fine

How can I flash any firmware if my PC will not detect the phone? When I plug the phone in there is nothing. Odin doesn't detect the phone, Keis doesn't detect the phone, ADB does not detect the phone, and I just tried Heindall, and it does not detect the phone..... Maybe the actual hardware for the USB plug in is faulty in its self, in which case I am screwed.

i see..... i only read the last 2 posts and im always telling people off for not reading properly
have you tried the obvious steps such as
Un-install - Re install Kies
Run Odin as administrator
Tried Alternative USB port - direct into the PC motherboard
Finally a different PC all together
hope you can get it workin hate to see another broken SGS

I have tried, uninstall-re install of kies, run odin as admin, alternate usb port, anddd I tried plugging it into my laptop...no luck...this absolutely driving me nuts because I know the phone cant be bricked, if I can get into download mode I SHOULD be fine but for some strange reason the phone seems to be undetectable...ahhhhhhhhhhhh if only there was just some way to access the internal storage or a program that would force a flash through an external SD....
I am going to try loading Ubuntu on my computer on one of my HDD and see if it will detect the phone. I am assuming this is my last option and I have high hopes as Ubuntu detects almost anything...I will update...if it doesnt work I might be looking into taking apart the phone its self and intalling a new USB plug in on the phone motherboard...
im not sure of any other steps
last resort.... have you tried another USB cable ? like your friends cable that he uses for his phone ?
EDIT: if i was you i WOULD NOT take the phone apart.... if you do and it does not work, your warranty will be void,
at least if you cant get it working you can send it off for repair and blame kies, you will have a good chance of getting it fixed by samsung than you would yourself

I dont know if it has been opened already by someone else. I bought the phone for $180 CAD from a sort of "2nd turn" site. As in it was being sold as is. The phone problem reported by them was that the USB connectivity was not working. When I originally got the phone from them everything was working correctly, except the USB connectivity like it stated. It came ROOTED and loaded with the leaked version of Froyo before it was out so I automatically assumed that was causing the USB problems. I got around to changing the ROM with a reported working USB using CWM. But, still no luck with USB connectivity. I just dealt with the problem and flashed everything through CWM. Which led me to this...ugh
Is there supposed to be a warranty seal behind the battery cover? Over the screws like there usually is? Cause I see nothing..
thats not good news.
there is no warranty sticker, but samsung could find out if the phone has been opened.
It depends on the actual repair guy, to be honest, samsung will have 100's of phones to repair daily, the majority just get passed on - flashed - wiped - boxed and sent back to the owner.
however if some (P)Rick is having a bad day and wants to find out why the phone is in for repair, and he finds out its been opened up, or its had custom firmware, then he can refuse to fix the phone or send it back to you with a bill included lol.
so you have to have a good excuse incase the worst happens.
if you dont fancy your chances and you feel capable of replacing the USB yourself then hey go for it !!

Well thank you for all the help. I am going to try installing Ubuntu first and see what happens, I have never had any driver issues with that OS EVER so if its detectable, Ubuntu will be the one to detect it. If that doesn't work I might take my chances and send it in. And if like you said that one person decides to screw me over, they at least have to send it back to me, in which case I will just open it myself and change the USB plug in like I said. (which might not even be the problem...)
Is there anyway to tell on the out side without opening it if it has indeed been opened before???
erm..... i dont think so, but i dont know what measures samsung have took to find this out.
if it was me the obvious things i would look for is, damaged screw heads and scratches down the sides - where the casing has been prised open. other than that i would not know what to look for
either way, i hope u get it fixed

Well I sent my phone in to Samsung last week and I just got it back today! I opened it up and I guess the problem with the phone was pretty bad lol they just gave me a new phone, I was thinking it was refurbed but it said right on the repair receipt "condition=NEW" I am extremely happy.
That aside, do you know if you can use the SGS II if it is unlocked in Canada?
hi this is a bit strange for me. Me, my associate and a friend got a galaxy s i9000. My associate and me are always upgrading and downgrading with odin, trying last firmwares, kernel and more, no problem at all.
My friend got his stock kernel 2.2.1 on his phone. Two days ago he bring me the galaxy, totally dead. No combination, no download mode, no signs recharching, no signs attaching to the pc
He says "non ho fatto niente" (italian version of "i am scared of what you can think so i lie and gave the problem to you")
i searched the forums and tried some solutions (like vol+ and vol- while attached to the pc and insert the battery) but nothing happens. I have tried the battery of my phone, nothing. I have tried with the jig usb, nothing.
So, there is something else i can do? Some trick? I read in this forum that someone have solved with the jig, but how? I just put in, put in and tried to turn on the phone, nothing.
There is no sign of life at all. It's a paperweight?
Had the same thing, got in to download mode this way:
Hold menu+vol down+power and then (still holding the keys) insert Micro USB in to phone (Odin running). You need at least 13 fingers on one hand (finally visiting Chernobil payed off )
I tested it three times, only this worked (phone was totally dead, failed at flashing Sbl.bin).
Mine is still bricked (something wrong with my USB on comp or the cable) and at the moment I can not get into download mode this way (failed at param.lfs). Previously the phone was of battery for 24h+ and I'm waiting to see if this does something.
Good luck, you'll need it
nothing happens :S
tried odin 1.82...
there's a youtube video that shows a modified home made jig and it worked!give it a try
Are you still holding the keys after you connect USB cable? You should for some time.
How long has it been disconnected from power (removed battery)?
i put in the battery of my galaxy that was a 60%...it is better to use the original charged?

(If you are not allowed to post links, just replace http with h**p or something)
I'll put on charging...it's getting hotter so something "it's alive"...we'll see
so...i made it working, don't know how precisely...it was full of crap, so i wiped out and upgraded to 2.3.4...but:
got arctifacts while changing screens (from desktop to app menĂ¹ and turning on)
the phone shut down totally random...
I suspect some sort of hardware damage. You should put on original firmware and RMA it. If you don't put on original firmware they will claim it got damaged while flashing with an unofficial rom and you will have to pay for repairs and parts.
Could be faulty internal SD, can you run some sort of Android hardware testing software?
actually is "empty"...it doesn't have sim neither sd, is there charging...and now doesn't show the charging animation, shutdown again...bah
ok this is scary...the last 3 times the phone shutdown was because i put back the rear cover...wtf...
what about the testing tool? any name\know usefull software?
Seems we have similar problems. Sometimes when I had put my phone on desk (on the battery cover, not display) it shut down. Put a piece of paper under the battery but did nothing.
I meant internal phone memory, not removable sd card.
ahhh kk...and what about teh testing tool? you know some good app?
Today, i tried to flash my galaxy with 2.3.4 I9000XXJPY , something like that ... and i got stuck at partitioning .... So i removed battery. and now i cant turn on my< phone. I cant enter download mode, because 3 buttons are not working for me So what are my options ?? Jig? or anything else ???
try the other combination vol+ home power...i did this today and it works...otherwise try the jig, always worked for flashing brick
That doesn't work either May phone is strange. When i first tried to update it trough KIES, something blocked, sedond time was a success, after that i got MTP crashing aplication problem, that i couldn't solve i will get the Jig and try that. But if for some reason, JHig doesn't work... what are my next options ???
If phone is totally dead, jig won't work. If jig won't work, you need jtag. If jtag won't work you need to replace 'motherboard' on the phone.
If jig does not work, just RMA (odnesi na garanciju) the phone. If flashing kills it, something was probably wrong with the phone.
(hold vol+ home power and while holding them plug in USB- it worked for me, but failed again and it doesn't work anymore)
Ok, today i got jig, and i insert it into phone, and download mode pops up, but when i connect it to the computer, computer doesn't recognize phone, and odin too ??? what to do now ??
Have you tried reinstalling the Samsung drivers on to the pc?
Also make sure Kies isn't running, it's worth a try
I tried, no luck Any other solutions maybe ???
Hello, my captivate will not boot at all. When I turn it on it just goes to a black screen with a white loading circular bar which does not turn at all. I can get it into download mode if I plug in the cable and hold down both volume buttons. The problem is I my computer and my friends computer both wont recognize the phone at all. I have tried different cords and different computers at least 3x each. I downloaded adb and had it look for any usb and it could find nothing. I installed the drivers and everything. ODIN will not see it. I have flashed a hundred times and this is the first time I think it's bricked, though it will go into download mode.
Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Yes!! This just happened to me too about two days ago!! i just kept trying until the phone finally recognized that it was plugged into the computer. Took me a while but it worked eventually. By the way, i had to use my warranty and have a new one sent out to me, but you can read my post titled "fatal flashing addiction" What you can also try is holding the volume up and power button at the same time to see if you can get CWM up and select reboot now
Mine is in Download mode and I do not even know how it got there. ODIN3 says it is not in debug mode, and I have tried Power, Power+VolumeUp, VolUp+VolDn, battery in and out, SIM in and out... Any ideas, anyone?

odin says its not in debug mode? huh? download mode is underneath the OS debug mode is not a factor unless actually booted into android and trying to use adb...
Yes, I am using ODIN3 already. Says I am not in debug mode. Also the PC does not recognize the device and gets an error. I have tried 1001 ways to get it connected, power on/off/plug in, etc. and the PC does not like it. SO ODIN3 will not talk to it. Tried on 2 PCs.

Have you changed USB cords? Sometimes it is a problem with a cable.
Perhaps try uninstalling the drivers, and reinstalling them and try a different usb port on your computer?
Tried two computers, multiple USB cables, every button combination under the sun, reinstalled drivers multiple times...
I think ODIN3 complains because the device is not recog by the PC so it cannot talk to it.
STILL BRICKED...

when u r able to get into download mode and u hav 2-3 diff cable and comps..and still if ur comp is not recgnizin ur phone..then u hav connector issue from phone ..i have posted it at lot of places and it works..
1)either the usb jack inside ur phone which is attached to the pcb of ur phone is having connectivity issues...
solution- if u r techie..then open the phone...look for connectivity issue around the usb socket and the pcb..and use soldering machine or blower to connect it..
2)or the fine 4 metal lines..which connects the cable pins to take charge or sync is rusted or having some dust accumulated..
solution - if u can use a very thin pin and try to rub that inner 4 metal connectors of usb socket..that might work..but be very gentle and do it with patience
first try to sec method..coz its easy and not required techie hands ..but soft and gentle hands..and mostly this will solve ur issue...
Try heimdall its like Odin kind of it requires more user input by my cappy had an issue that Odin would not see it multiple computers and ports. Heimdall saved me works on windows and Linux that's all I use now when flashing my phone even was able to flash Gb bootloaders no issues. Hope it can help you

Heres what worked for me...
I have the Samsung Captivate SGH-I897 from AT&T which came out with FROYO and I found a version of GINGERBREAD I downloaded and wanted to use instead so I used Odin v1.82. I had trouble getting mine into Download Mode also but I have a Samsung Infuse 4G too. I simply used the same method I used on my Infuse 4G and it also put my Captivate into Download Mode with no problem. Ya simply pull out SIM, battery and SD Card. After placing battery back in phone you simply hold down the Up and Down Volume Keys while plugging in the USB cable. Phone enters Download Mode and I flashed the cell phone and it works perfectly.
I am noob to all this stuff so I am picking up things here and there.
Here is what I've tried so far:
1- SuperOneClick. The program hangs at a step where it reads "Check if rooted : false"
2- Galaxy One Click Root. Program is responsive but it stops at "* daemon started successfully *" and does nothing from there.
3- Copying the "update.zip" file to the root of my internal SD card. I'm greeted by a "E: Signature verification failed. Installation aborted" error.
All remediable steps to fix one or all problems REQUIRES root, so i'm in limbo here. I honestly am about to cry. This seemed a hell of a lot easier when I read about it...
Well, what's left here for me to do? I'm lost. I read so many threads here I honestly can't do it anymore. This is my last resort.
This phone is all stock, AT&T Captivate.
Sorry if this is the wrong section of this forum... New here.

hold up on that flash back. It oculd cause you to loop. Try using SOC v1.9 or lower. Also make sure your computer has all the required updates installed.
So this developed into a new, bigger, problem. I tried THIS guide to flash cyanogenmod (latest) but, guess what, the freaking thing hanged. So I was left with the only option, severing the link between PC and phone, and rebooting the phone.
I get this "phone - attention sign - computer" image. I think to myself "oh sh#&, I bricked the phone" so I rebooted it once again and to my surprise, the phone won't turn on. Won't react to the usb cable (can't boot to download mode), won't react to wall charger, won't turn on with the power button.
The battery was almost full...
What the heck is going on!?!? I had this phone for 3 days and I already ruined it?

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound promising. Even if you have a black screen, I would still try to access DL mode with Odin open (pull battery, remove sim, put battery back in, hold both volume buttons and insert the USB cord, don't touch the power button). If you get a yellow com light in Odin, even if the screen stays black, you're in download mode. If that doesn't work, you could try a jig and then see if Odin recognizes it. If neither of those work, you'll need to send your phone out to someone like Adam Outler to have it unbricked.
I get nothing with Odin. I can't believe I bricked my phone like that. I thought I would get an error screen at least. But this is outrageous. It's like the phone shorted and fried from the inside.
All I can say is wow... My happiness of a new phone turned to ashes in 30 seconds. Nice waste of money.
If you buy a USB download jig it will get you out of soft brick situations and if Odin fails try heimindal

It didn't fry, it failed while flashing bootloaders. The bootloaders are what tell your phone what to do when you press power. Mismatched bootloaders = hard brick = no power up.
I would still try a jig, but if that doesn't work send a message to AdamOutler. He can give you the details of getting it unbricked.

Considering the flashing hanged at the very beggining, I'm 90% sure it HARD-bricked my device. A jig wouldn't work and I'm left with a very fancy paperweight.
There is NO power on whatsoever.
My luck is amazing, isn't it?
Please, someone tell me there is still hope (there isn't probably)

It didn't fry, it failed while flashing bootloaders. The bootloaders are what tell your phone what to do when you press power. Mismatched bootloaders = hard brick = no power up.
I would still try a jig, but if that doesn't work send a message to AdamOutler. He can give you the details of getting it unbricked.

Exactly. I figured
I have no idea of who "AdamOutler" is. But I'll find out. :/

I suspect you are correct about the hard brick, but I would still try a jig. I had a failure flashing bootloaders once that killed my cappy, but though a stroke of fortune a jig still worked for me. You can build one for a couple of bucks of parts from Radio Shack, you've got nothing to lose. If not, it can be repaired.
Before you start looking at all that, make sure you are hard bricked. Easiest way is to use Linux Mode Detector. Use the link below labeled Captivate sig link, then choose am i bricked?.

Yes, it's still worth a try. But unfortunately it will have to wait at least till the end of the month. That's when my college break is over and I'm back to school.

Sorry but I'm not installing an OS just to use a program. I do believe the phone is hard-bricked though:
1- Doesn't power up with the on/off button
2- Doesn't go into recovery mode
3- Doesn't go into download mode
4- Doesn't light up when plugged into wall charger
If that isn't hard-bricked, then I'm really scared to find out what that really is
I sent a PM and an email to Adam Outler. I hope he replies it!
Linux is easier to use than you think, and it's a really handy tool to have when working with Android phones. You can install Linux entirely to a cheap thumb drive (I have a $4 4gb thumb drive running lubuntu) and it can get you out of a lot of Android related jams. If you're not willing to go through letting Linux up and running, might not want to do too much with phones either. I don't mean to be snarky, but I started using Linux casually a couple years before I started messing with phones and Linux is much more straightforward.
Edit: and if you have a multimeter around, check the voltage of your battery. Should be 4.2v=full, 3.5v ish is dead. If you battery pull, reinsert, hold volume up and down, and then connect to your pc with Odin open (don't hit power) what does Odin show? Last, did you get this phone used? Battery may be completely worn out, which would be why it was almost full and looks hard bricked now.
Wubi installer would be a better choice. And when your finished, it uninstalls just like an app. It's kind if a semipermanent dual boot. Check it out.

Well, I guess I'll look into that now. I'm running windows over a MacBook (stuck with it till I get back home). Maybe some tips running linux w/ a pendrive with bootcamp?

I'll look into the multimeter. The phone IS used, but I'm sure the battery isn't worn out.
Hooking up the phone, pressing both volume buttons, with odin open gives me nothing. Zip. If it was the battery wouldn't the phone give some sign of life after charging it for a while? Didn't happen.

My understanding is that charging is controlled by firmware to protect the battery, so it won't even charge if it's bricked.

Right, or if the battery is so dead it can't start to turn on, it won't turn on. Or, if it was soft-bricked with no images to display, it may have killed itself without a firmware to allow it to charge properly. Not very likely, but there are a couple possibilities that end with a dead battery and no way to know.

Right. I'll check the V of the baterry once I get my hands on a multimeter.(somebody took all of them here at the house for some reason)
The multimeter read that the battery has 3.92V, so it's not dead. So to sum it up I only have two options now:
1- Try a USB jig
2- Attempt the UnBrickable mod/send it to Adam Outler
Both of them will take time. Unfortunate for me. Good news is that WILL have it back up and running. It will just take some time

So nothing whatsoever shows up in ODIN when you 1- batt pull, 2- batt reinsert, 3- plug in USB while holding either volume down, or volume up + vol down (w/o turning phone on)?
Alright, day 10 of my epic tale...
Handset: Samsung Captivate SGH-I896 (Rogers)
Computer: (MacBook Pro, WinXP 32bit, Win7 64bit)
Really the story starts about 10 months ago. Captivate boots up one day after a night of charging only to display "Downloading Do Not Turn of Target!!!". No matter what boot method of key combos will change this. Well the phone found its way into the junk drawer and forgotten about. Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, my current fruit based named device type 4 receives a large blow from my 2 year old causing its all glass front and back to be unusable, parts are now on order. I look into the junk drawer to find a suitable interim replacement. I find my 'ol Samsung Captivate, put the battery in, plug it in and BOOM, it boots just the first day out of the box. Two days later, back to "Downloading Do Not Turn of Target!!!"... Damn. Everything I have tried from my 96+ hours of trial and error has led me here to post. ODIN, Heimdall, Kies, OneClick this, and OneClick that, nothing.
I have had the phone boot up properly twice in ~10 days, the back to Download Mode.
[TL;DR] I'm a n00b, every attempt that you can image and a few you can't. Samsung Captivate will NOT exit from Download Mode.
Thank you for your time,
Nate.

I really don't know that I have a good answer for you but first of all since you've indicated that you've tried several methods including one-clicks... did anything that you tried to flash show in the program you were using that the time that it went through and flashed?

No program was able to detect the phone, only one PC was able to detect that something was pluged in (WinXP 32bit), all attempts with various drivers did not change this. However once in a blue moon the phone boots just fine, battery charges I can sync with Mac & PC. This tells me that the general condition of the hardware is good.

So when the phone is in download mode and you plug it in via usb the computer doesn't recognize it at all? It's not listed on device manager as it should be or unknown?
I could be way off base but it almost sounds to me like your usb port is going bad. If it's shorting out in there it could explain why it's constantly going into download mode. And why every once in a while it actually boots and functions as normal.

The USB on the phone does charge the batter, if I leave it plugged in and unplug it, it will sit in download mode until the battery runs dry.
