I searched for and found a few threads regarding custom lock rings but can't get them to work on my (rooted and stock ROM) Vivid. They are for the sensation and thunderbolt. According to what I could find, they are flashable in recovery, but I can't get them to work on the Vivid. Anyone else try this and get somewhere?

They are probably flashable in CWM but just for those devices. Flashable zips are device specific and usually ROM specific as well. You will have to wait until someone makes this kind of mod for the vivid.

I'm in the process of cooking up a ROM and tried that last night. I don't think we have m10 tools that are new enough or something to compile the images. I tried doing it manually last night and ending up with no lockscreen.
I remember seeing a huge ass thread for a different device with tons of these. That'd be really cool if we could get some custom ones too.

I don't own a Vivid but aren't you all on Sense 3.0? Lockrings can be changed within a theme apk.

Maybe, but I'm still going to drop my AT&T Sense 3 ROM sometime tomorrow.
So what are you on? 3.5? Same would apply, you just have to take the m10 file off a 3.0 theme and replace the one from the 3.5 theme with it, all Sense widgets get skinned but the Rosie. This has worked for me on the Sensation.

Yeah inside the m10 file of a theme is a lockring, edit that one and it switches when you apply the theme.

The lock rings in fusion.apk inside, M10 tool can not be used in sense3.5! However, the skin can be used to amend! For example, the following:

Yes you're right,
It's done by editing either the burgundy m10 or the blue m10, don't change the default m10.
so you make your edits to the blue one and replace the new blue m10 in the fusion 3.5 apk.
when you restart you change to the blue theme or burgundy if you changed that one.
this way you are not editing the main (default) m10.

You need to install MetaMorph (its in the market)
These are NOT flashable zip files!
The main reason for using MetaMorph is that themes can be used all roms that share the original base when designing a theme.
see my first post for more details of MetaMorph including link.

After testing "black mix" myself on a new install of Modaco 3.0 you are correct it does not seem to like the theme
I have amended my original post with a warning.
On a side note I would advise anyone using Modaco 3.0 and stuck in a boot loop just to pull the battery and re-flash the rom without a wipe, this will bring you back from dead
Worked on CDMA, too.
I have a noob question. After I've applied a zip do I have to keep it on the SD card? I like to keep mine as clean as possible and if I don't need them on the card I would remove them. Oh, if I can make a request. Can you make an dark orange theme as well? I've always liked that orange/bronze look. Thanks.

@ratcom, you mentioned for the black them not to use on Modaco 3.0 roms. Is there a specific reason for it and does this mean all other themes posted ar Modaco 3.0 compatible ?

Lol... patience, my young padawan. Turns out that the original xml posted in Droid Mechanics' blog was not compatible with the current CM6.1 source format, so I needed to edit that.. (something about id assignment) resuming compilation as we speak

Okies... I've managed to get it working
But...
1) The carrier text is not displayed correctly (should be right-aligned)
2) This _will_ change your framework-res.apk. Having build it using CM6.2.0 RC0 (currently nightly), it _might_ not work on other ROMs.
Once I get the text properly aligned I will put up a framework-res.apk and a metamorph package for those who want to try
Cool Thanks for taking this on.
Ok, I've solved it
Now all I need to figure out is how to get it to you guys. What ROMs are you using?
Wow nice!
FroydVillain 1.7.2 over here
I've created a two options for you guys to try... but first:
DONT FORGET TO NANDROID
Having said that: I honestly do not know if this will work or not (my hero is also also my main phone and is currently running my own custom build of CM6.1), but for those brave enough to try here you go!
(all files can be found HERE)
Your options are to:
replace your framework-res.apk with one of these (this will reset any theme you've applied!):
(plain) Cyanogen 6.1 - Stable
Floyo 1.2.0
Froyd 1.7.2
or use a metamorph
(plain) Cyanogen 6.1 - Stable
Floyo 1.2.0
Froyd 1.7.2
Again, I have no clue if this will work, so backup first! I recommend a wipe of cache (and maybe dalvik) as well.
Post if it works or not. If this way turns out to be one big mess, I can share my private build, but hopefully this will work.

Hi!
I've made a dark downanimation.zip (animation while phone is switching off) to replace the stock one from HTC. It's like the original one, but on dark background, to go with the dark splash screen and bootanimation that's floating around in the ARHD rom thread. Tested in my Desire HD (480x800). Don't know if someone else had already made this, but I couldn't find any...
Install Instructions:
OPTION 1:
Open root explorer, rename the file darkdownanimation.zip to downanimation.zip and paste it in /system/customize/resource. Then define permissions to rw-r--r--, like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",

Absolutely awesome downanimation. Using it now!
This one should be flashable, havnt had chance to try it yet myself though so let me know and Ill remake it if not.
Quick splash screen question, are they 'permanent' or do they revert back to the white HTC every time I reflash?
I flash roms quite a lot and usually incorporate boot/down anis in the rom cleaner script. Never dealt with splash screens before.
Cheers

Hmm... maybe because the files are taken from here and there and mix together
For example, the Sense 5 lockscreen is taken (again without any notice or permission asked) from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39555206&postcount=2478
Sense_5_Lockscreen_(RC9.5).zip to be exact.
Anyway as this Lockscreen mod is almost one year old ... it's ok for everyone want to include in ROMs or MODs .... a credit is appreciated
