Hi
obviously class 10 would be better but in the Note does it make much of a difference regarding speed/lag?
The class 10 32gb card is priced 15-20 more at a nearby shop so should I save the money and go for the class 4? Thanks
recently I switched from Toshiba class 4 16GB to Lexar Class10 32GB.
The 32GB class 10 is much faster when you copying files but for general use (photo taking, music playing, video playing, video recording)
honestly don't notice any difference
as said, a class 4 is suitable, only time you will notice a difference is usb transfer speeds
As darkinners mentioned, if you want the FASTEST, go for a class 10.
He also said it doesnt make much difference...so class 4 it is

I have a Magic 32A, i purchased a Class2 8GB a while back, is it necessary to change it to class 6?
No, the class 2 card should be working fine, it's just gonna be slower.

cheers
Try the general category/section next time you have a non games/application related question!
Actually the class rating is for write speeds more than read. If your just using it to store music, video etc and not apps2sd or swap (why would you with a 32A?) than there should be very little difference.
Clinton
their speed is directly related to the class.
class 6 goes 6 times faster than a class 1 and so on.
whatever you read/write on the SD will suffer from a class2.
FYI, gallery etc they all create thumbnails etc on the SD card (no matter is your using app2sd or not).
I would DEFINITELY not get a class 2.
Maybe a class4, but with the difference in price I dont understand why not a class6.
I found very little difference between class 2, class 4 and class 6 when using for storage. (music, photo etc) These where all of the same size for testing (4GB cheap) and there was no noticeable difference in any of them as far as opening music form the player or browsing the gallery.
I know here in Canada if you can find them class6 16gb cards are twicw as much as the class2 cards. I paid $52 for my 16gb class2 and the cheapest I can locate on in Canada is $111 plus shipping, so not that cheap.

A thing to remember, is that the class is the minimum guaranteed speed – not the maximum. So a class 2 guarantee you a speed of mimimum 2MB/s, a class 4 - 4MB/s etc. But the maximum speed is actually the interesting thing – and that depends wary much on the quality of the card.
So when you buy a new card – have the quality in mind. I’ll rather buy a quality brand class 2 or 4 card then a “no-name ebay” class 6, as the maximum speed of the quality cards is properly better than that of the no name one… ;-)
I have gone through a dozen or more cards and I can tell you class 6 versus a class 2/4 makes a difference. The size of the SD card also makes a difference, the less space to look in the shorter it takes. If you bought a $300 phone like me $35 isnt so bad to make the most of it. My perfect balance is the 16GB class 6 I use in my daily phone, plenty of space and fast for apps2sd.
stock class 2(?) 1GB upgraded to 8GB class 6 on cyan 4.0.4.
I noticed it has sped up a LOT, mostly noticeable when typing, I have turned on vibrate and its still faster.
Hi guys,
I'm getting a new sdcard for my phone, but I'm not exactly sure what class should I get. Is class 4 enough or should I get at least class 6?
I'm worried about full HD videos recording.
Any tips appreciated
Im going to get 16gb class 6

I've got a 16GB class 4 and am happy with it.
In my opinion, the prices of cards class 6+ are too high for the extra transfer speed they offer.
tnx for the tips
16gig class 6 = 20$ off ebay.
And yes its a real class 6 as I have tested its speed

I'm using Lexar 16gb class 6, worth the price, the performance is near a class 10 microsd.

In my sensation, on a class 4 8GB card, i got 13 MBps full Hd recording and on same card but LG 2X, i get 18~19 Mbps fullHd video
I don't think class matters that much....
By the way i use internal SD storage for camera and later transfer to extrnal SD

I've read that class 10 is actually slower at reading small files than class 4
You can see a lot of data (real world data) here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjPE3ZAD2eVudE9vZmQ3aHlfTkFvU2J4ZUplRDJQTEE#gid=0
taken from this thread
So if you're going boot from SD for example I would get a class 4
If you are planning on transferring a lot of movies/music/photo's or recording video's in high resolution onto the SD, I would recommend a class 10
But best of all: do some research and pick a card that excels in both, e.g.
SanDisk Mobile Ultra 32GB Micro SDHC Flash Card Model SDSDQY-032G-A11A
Samsung Class 10 MB-MSBGA/EU

I have one Samsung 32gb class 10 (MB-MSBGA) and i'm quite satisfied with it.
It costed 32€ (1€/Gb is really a nice price ) and it's fast
Antutu Bench 2.7 gives me writes of 17-18MB/s and reads of around 20-22 MB/s (these scores with only 4gb free in the sd card (full of music and hd vids))
I use Kingston 8G class 4.
In regular use it has enough speed.
I have a ridata 32GB class10.
Really happy with it too.
My rule is to get class 6 and up. But that's me because I tend to play around with my phone and may come a time where I need to boot from it. As of now, the class 10 helps with loading apps (I hope). Since I have CM7 and it's using the external card as the default sd mount.
team 16gb class 10 forever
i think class 6 is good and the performance is good too. I never heard any of my friends got problem with it
I'm using VERICO 16GB class 10, very good performance!
I had to decide between Class 6 and Class 10 for my P990, but since the Class 10 just had a small additional charge I picked this one.
Samsung Class 10 for 18-19€ (Germany)
Guys,
For use with Galaxy NOTE (GT-N7000) Which Memory Card Should I get ?
Hoping to order one over ebay next week.
* 16GB or 32GB ? (Larger the better, but I need to know whether the note will handle 32GB)
* Which Class ? (4, 6 or 10 ?)
Thanks !
yes it will handle 32gb, it will also handle 64gb cards
it is your choice on what size you get it is your requirementrs that decide this
i havea 32gb class 4 card and it suits my needs, class 10 are wasted in mobile phones
I also heard Note can handle 64GB MicroSD, though it's very expensive atm.
Sandisk Class 4 32GB would be an optimal choice for its price, quality and speed.
Samsung 32GB Class 10 for around $50CDN shipped on eBay. Performance is quite good.

It's newly released so not many people have their hands on. Got a lot of features which is kind of appealing to me lol :d.
Just that I read somewhere Class 4 provide much better handle than Class 10 at reading random data, while Class 10 excels at writing large files. So if you want to transfer lots of space then Class 10 would be better.
One more thing, the Class X only tells the minimum speed, while the maximum speed depends on the card make, brand, technology...
After searching online, I assume Sandisk is the best.
Over here class 4 and class 10 cards are almost the same price so I just went with a 16GB class 10 myself. Working just fine, though I didn't expect it not to anyways.

Indeed. My class 10 can write at 16 megabytes/second (not megabits!) and read at 20 megabytes/second, it's just that the specification is several years old and they defined speeds only up to class 10.

+1 I have one in my note and it is fine
Class 4:
High sequential read speed/medium sequential write speed
Good random 4k_Thread read/write speed (needed to initialize some system relevant data faster that's why SSD on PC can boot so much faster than HDD)
Class 10:
High sequential read/write speed (if you copy media files very often that's the one for you)
Good random 4k_Thread read speed/very very VERY horrible random write speed
Both don't have Problems recording HD material on note and also playing them.
Remember : higher class doesn't necessarily mean it's better.
Thanks a lot for the input guys !!
Samsung 32GB Class 10 it is then..
How about Sandisk Mobile Ultra 32Gb Class 6 and I think the performance is above the Samsung Class 10?

I've heard lots of good things about Sandisk lately..
I only have files I rarely use on the 'external' card. These are usually large files like mp3 or videos. As such I went for the Lexmark 32 GB class 10. It does the job very well.
Everything I access often is on the 'internal' sd to save battery.
buy samsung class 6 32gb microsd card
its cheaper & optimum for note
I own too.
It works like a charm
I want to buy a 32gb memory card for my galaxy note. I want to know which class memory card should I buy. I am getting 32gb sandisk class4 card @1.9k and 32gb sandisk class 6 @3.9k. What benefits will i get with a class 6 card. please help !!!
You'll just be able to dump content faster to the card with a higher class.
by class 6 you must mean the new sandisk ultra series (red color cards).
if you gonna use your card mainly for storing apps and other such random access stuff go for class 2/4.
if its for HD video recording, large file transfers, etc (sequential read/write) go for class 6/10.
btw, for HD video playback even class 2/4 is sufficient. although there is an advantage for HD recording when going for higher classes.
also, if you meant the class 6 sandisk ultra, most of the reviews as well as users say that its much faster than most of the class 10 disks in the market, including class 10 sandisks.

Thanks for ur reply. Yes the class 6 card is the Red Mobile Ultra one. I wanted to know what kind of problems I may face with a class 4 card while 1080P video recording and is class 6 really worth almost double the price?
I went for a class 10 and it seems alright. Not overly impressed with the speeds though. But no issues with HD recording.

If you are shooting 720p or higher videos with lower class, you may experience stuttering in the video as the card isn't rated for high throughput data transfers. I'm not saying that it will happen every time, but that is the reason you should go for higher class cards if that is your main purpose. Higher class cards have higher sequential write speeds, which is what you need for saving pictures more quickly and for recording HD video. Lower class cards have much higher random access speeds, which are needed for someone who uses lots of apps.
so if you store all apps internally and keep the external card only for multimedia, you could blindly go for class 6/10. you get very fast data transfers also (PC to Note).
this class 6 mobile ultra is very new. it could actually be a good compromise between class 4 and 10. but don't worry too much. just stick to sandisk
you can also check this one. looks good and priced well for a class 10.

have a read of this paper http://static.usenix.org/events/fast12/tech/full_papers/Kim.pdf and see what card suits your needs

imho class 4 is enough for u to store mkv video file, it's for me.
Guyz I have decided for Sandisk class 6 card. But now the problem is as I see. sandisk 32gb class 6 @ 50$ and sandisk 64gb class 6 @ 111$. Out of these 2 which one do you recommend. THanks in advance !!!
If you can afford it then obviously the 64GB is better, but i would get a UHS-I if i were you.

Haven't got my Note yet, my question is regarding internal memory vs lower class external interm of speed as you said lower class will have stuttering and slow in saving pictures. What if I use my internal storage as the main temporary storage for taking HD video and picture, would it stutter like you mention?
Then when I'm done recording, I just transfer the recorded HD video to my external card. Would that make scene?
I want to use my internal memory as a temporary storage and will move my data to external card when doing house keeping. Would clearing internal storage enhance overall phone speed performance?
I read somewhere that class 6 card is better than class 10 for smartphones? Is it true? I was planning to buy class 10 transend or sandisk 32 gb sd card. Should I ? Anybody...

The general consensus is that Class 10 is great for what it's intended for: transferring or saving LARGE media files (recording videos or taking high-resolution digital photos).
The lower classes seem to perform better with smaller file transfers.
I have a Class 4 Sandisk 8MB card in my P970, and I'm very happy with the performance. I doubt I'd see a performance increase moving to Class 10.

i think you mean 8GB?
i have a Class 10 Samsung micro SD-Card with a space of 32GB
The difference between Class 4 and 10 is that C4 has 4MB/s write speed and class 10 10 MB/s write speed.
I would always choose a class 10. they are not so expensive and are more than twice as fast as Class 4

Here's an interesting link comparing different classes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150369
I have read that manufacturers have recently improved random read/write speeds on class 10 cards. Dunno. Biggest thing I see is that brand almost matters as much as class. I'd stick with Sandisk.
Enjoy, and good luck.
