[Q] NEED ADVICE on flashing stock roms - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an Orange branded phone. Its build number is GINGERBREAD.BVJVC. I heard that you could only flash stock roms that is from the same region. Apparently Europe is XXJV(one more random letter). But mine starts with BV. is this because it is Orange's rom? Or does this not matter and can i flash with any rom including branded ones even with a different firmware (basically different everything).

On the site sammobile(.)com can find your correct branded firmware.

thank alot

How to turn my European HTC One to a Thai HTC One?

Hello,
I bought a new HTC One (M7) in Switzerland for a Thai friend. When I turn on the phone, I can select a language in the list of the pull-down menu. The Thai language is missing in this list and I would to add this language.
1. Can I get the Thai language if I flash the phone with a firmware using ODIN?
2.a Which firmware should I use to get the Thai language, and where to download it? I would like to use the HTC official firmware, this one pre-installed in HTC One sold in Thailand.
2.b Same question for the Samsung Galaxy S4.
3. If I understood the guide below, a hard-reset* will not reset the phone to the original HTC firmware pre-installed on the phone when I bought it. Isn't it?
* After flashing the phone with another firmware.

Thanks in advance and regards.
ODIN? Is not that for Samsung? Not working with HTC.
But flashing a different ROM will solve your issue.
Point 3 is correct.
Though i don't think that official firmware for a different region can be flashed without modifying a couple of things in the phone. AFAIK you need S-OFF because of the CID and change it to a different one than current or to SuperCID.
CID stands for Customer ID. HTC implemented this check to prevent flashing other region firmwares. For example, if you have a phone which CID belongs to Singapore, you normally can't update ROM from other region like EURO/USA/CHINA etc. You've to use same region firmware. Remeber that, SIMLOCK is not related to CID, if you sim unlock a phone still you may not be able to flash other region ROM. But unlocking tools like XTC, HXC etc does CID unlock too as well as SIM unlock. To Determine your phone's CID I've made a small script. Download getcid.rar from attachment, extract, connect the phone to Computer in Fastboot Mode, run getcid.bat. It'll show phone's current CID.

In my opinion it's better to unlock the phone, flash custom recovery and flash a stock custom ROM (official).
I think WWE ROMs have Thai (see screenshot), if I'm correct.

[Q] Advice welcome on trying to flash unlocked AT&T device

Probably against my better judgement, I've bought a 'new' S4 active off of Ebay here in the UK...it turns out its an unlocked AT&T device. While the phone works, it has AT&T branding all over it, and has an AT&T firmware updater rather than the stock android one, which is stuck on 4.3
Is it possible to flash this device with standard UK 4.4.2 firmware? I've attached a screenshot from the device showing what it's running. CSC information is:
Original CSC: XSG
Firmware CSC: ATT
Active CSC: XSG/ATT
CSC Country UAE
CSC Country ISO : AE
Using Phone info it shows:
Baseband I537UCUBML2...but in standard phone settings Baseband I9295XXDMK1??
PDA: I9295UCUBML2 / I537UCUBML2
I think stock UK firmware is BTU CSC, so I've downloaded that from SAMMOBILE.COM, but when I try to flash that with Odin, it just give me a fail with "Complete(Write) operation failed". I've tried different ports, cables and making sure no Kies processes are running (as I've read these can affect it), but still fail.....So my question is, is what I'm trying to do even possible....it is possible to turn an unlocked AT&T device into a stock UK device? If it is maybe I just have to keep trying different PC's and ports and cables till I strike lucky!
Many thanks for any help
Vince

I have bad news for you, currently it is impossible. About the only thing you can do is flash i537 firmware and then use UK modems, since it seems like that is what was already done. Sorry, you bought a phone with a locked bootloader and there's nothing that can be done until somebody figures out how to unlock the bootloader on Samsung phones.
Thanks for the reply....I had a bad feeling this was going to be the response, at least now I don't have to waste any more evenings trying to do this, that's the risk of ebay I guess!! Not sure if I'm brave or experienced enough to know how to get hold of the latest 4.4.2 AT&T firmware, flash that, and THEN install UK modems without risking a bricked device!

I try to make people's lives easy, check out the i537 Firmware Guide. At some point in the future I'm going to put together a post on how to flash modems so you can wait for that if you want, but it is really easy to flash modems with Odin and there is pretty much no risk to bricking, the only risk you'll run in to is that your radios won't work until you properly flash the modem. Good luck.
That looks like a great source of information thanks....so it should be possible to install the latest 4.4.2 AT&T firmware, then re-install the UK modems ....I wasn't what the risk of flashing modems was, but it seems like you just use Odin again with the correct file. So as long as I can get hold of those I should be OK.
Many thanks again for the assist.

about firmware, how it works

1. i am wondering the way firmware works in the phone, what components does it change, how changing from branded to unbranded is possible?
2. is it ok to use firmwares of same model for different country?
3. what is the difference between software version and customization version?

What is the difference between ASAT and ASAB firmware? I need help picking a firmware

I've attempted to searched up the different kinds of firmware for this model phone and as far as I'm aware for the F series (international) versions of the S10 it is either for UK, Asia, or Europe
I have a Galaxy S10 G973F/DS and when I got it the stock firmware on it was G973FXXU1ASAT. Although reading further I've seen other firmwares ending in ASBA and ASC8.
I guess this means the Dual Sim model can only come from the asia model according to this chart
https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-model-number-sm-g973-differences/
I've been attempting to add TWRP onto my phone using this guide and I've been having difficulty with it and I dont know if the firmware I downloaded is not compatible with it. So if anyone else has any suggestions on firmware I'd like to know.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ecovery-twrp-3-3-0-galaxy-s10-exynos-t3924856
ASAT, ASBA, ASC8 are all different releases of the Firmware.... They are released in order Alpha and Numerically, So ASAT is the Oldest you named and ASC8 is the Newest... The most important is that the Model and bootloader portion of the firmware name is correct. G973FXXU1.... Then you have to find THAT EXACT FIRMWARE for your Carrier. Which like I said is NOT the ASC8 part(thats just the firmware release). It will be identified with a CSC code like "XAA"
So, at the end, you want the G973FXXU1ASC8 (or newer now) Firmware for whatever carrier you have...
Today, I would flash G973FXXU3ASIG for whatever COUNTRY/Carrier you need...
