Hello everybody! I need some help here. I've been unable to find someone with a similar problems to me so, here goes. I was trying to root my Samsung Galaxy S i9000M Vibrant (Bell), and well I guess something went wrong. I got to the part where I put the Kernel zimage in the Voodoo/disable-lagix folder and after I clicked start on the Heimdall Frontend my phone just basically went black. Now at first, I could start it up and it would go through the galaxy s logo and then permanently stay on a screen that displayed "Overstock. Lighter. Faster. Stronger." and I thought well my phone is bricked so I searched around and found a program called One-click unbrick and tried doing that. That just made it worse and took away the overstock screen and just left the screen blank. So I searched more and used this Odin Method for Vibrant, and that again made it worse. It can now only go into download mode, the loading battery animation, or just a full white screen that flashes on and off about every 5 seconds. I'm pretty desperate and can't find help anywhere else. Any help here???
If the SGS is still responding in someway, the good news is it's NOT completely bricked.
My first try would be to put the phone in download mode & flash (using 3 files) the last working firmware. Just look around here for the file links.
Since you can get into download mode, you're not hard bricked.
At this point I think your best bet is to flash an official Bell stock ROM for the i9000m.
They are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
search for i9000m
KG3 is the only official Bell Gingerbread ROM to date
KC1 is the last official Bell Froyo ROM
Do I just put this into Odin??
Yes.

Your copy of Odin should have come with pit files.
select the file with 512 in it.
Here is a picture that shows what it should look like (the PDA shows the one for JVT, but select the one for whichever official ROM you are flashing):

In that link you sent me do I choose the North America GK 2.3.3?
Yes, that is the official Bell Gingerbread ROM for the i9000m.
Does my phone have to be 100% charged?
It should be more than 50% charged.
The higher the charge you have, the better.
Thank you so much! I thought my phone was forever doomed! Day Made.
It is now stuck on the Galaxy S screen. Help??
The first boot after a re-partition flash takes a bit of time.
Yeah, It tooks a couple minutes but its working now. Thanks
/thread
Excellent, glad you got it back.
Not sure if you are aware, but for whatever reason, on the Bell UGKG3 GB release the 3-button combo is actually a 2-button combo.
To get into download mode so you can flash some other ROM again, just press volume down and power.

hi.
I'm now stuck at 2.1
I've tried using odin or CWM, but I could NOT get my phone to Froyo.
Flashed using odin or CWM successfully, without any error. But couldn't boot, just stuck at Galaxy S screen.
Flashing back to 2.1 is no problem
How long did you wait on the Galaxy S boot animation?
It will take longer to boot because your phone is rebuilding the dalvic cache..

There wasn't any boot animation. Just a Galaxy S i9000 screen alone.
I left it for more than 5 mins. Still with cold and cheerless screen, nothing changed.
Does it look like this?

I expected to see this screen so much. But what I got was not even close.
which froyo rom are you trying to flash and are you using the international I9000 SGS?
You might have missed some procedures...

I've been flashing my Samsung Vibrant T959 using odin or CWM like thousand times but never seen anything like this.
I have tried JS5, JS7, JP1, JP3 (european)... and some Asian version, but there was no luck
I initially thought there was a problem with odin. But then I flashed back to 2.1 JFD, JM8 , JM9... smoothly. Then got my SGS rooted, CWM flashed, then tried some CWM Froyo and Gingerbread ROM, but all failed to boot .
I almost give up. Is there anybody have any idea?
Does any one know how to solve this problem?
my phone was running the Cognition 4.2.1, and then I saw the CyanogenMod 7, which looked way cooler, then I follow the video from the link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978150
(maybe I did not restore to Android 2.1) and then I flashed the Speed mod and my phone was dead since that, it stayed on one screen when I tried to turn it on, 3 button mode to recovery did not work either. here is the picture that I took with the dead screen, has anyone seen this one before, plz let me know, I really appreciate your help.

Can you get into do mode?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Yeah, if you can get to download mode, you can flash back to stock using odin. There are a few ways to get to download mode. You can try holding vol up and vol down buttons while plugging the phone into your computer. If that doesn't work, there is a way to force boot into download using a simple and inexpenisve jig. Basically, you take three 100ohm resistors and wire them together. Then, you touch the leads to pin 4&5 of the micro usb connector. This should boot you into download mode, but I have never tested it. I got this information from here on xda, but I can't remember the exact post. Just search for captivate jig, and you should be able to find the topic covering these jigs. Also, the topic will give you much better instructions on how to make the jig. Hope you get unbricked!!
Sent from my Samsung Captivate using XDA App.
ROM: Cognition v4.1.1
Kernel: eXistZ's KB1 #5 Voodoo Sound v4, Voodoo Color, Voodoo lagfix
Modem: I897 UCJJ4 w/ HSUPA/HSDPA enabled
And for the future, there's a dedicated CM7 thread for Q&As. There's been a real increase in people failing the flashing process for CM7 these days, and it would be much better for people to have it in one thread (so others can learn from it as well).
But for your current issue, you will have to try and get it to Download Mode. If you can't, then you're in a bit of trouble I'm afraid.
looks like you will be learning how to make a jig, if none of the other ways to force it into download mode worked. Please know what you are doing before trying things or this is what happens. CM7 doesnt work with that kernel, I think there is only one that does work with it.

Hey there - I just bought my wife a used Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant (I9000M) and it came with a custom rom / cwm recovery already installed - now I'd keep it as it seems to work ok, but since it's for my Wife, I'd rather just return it to stock as she doesn't need all the custom rom enhancements I don't think.
What i'd like to do is return it to a stock Samsung ROM - or at least something really close to stock. (Something that has all the stock Samsung apps maybe?) I'm not familiar at all with the rom that's on there so it may be the best one available, I have no idea. This is my Wife's first Android phone and I'd rather not turn her off of it because of some custom roms issues.
My problem is that I'm not sure how to go back. I've read a bunch of articles on here and I just got confused since there are so many different modems and regions, or whatever. I'm not a total noob with custom roms, I've put dozens on my Dell Streak, but the Samsung seems to be a bit more complicated (to me at least). If someone could help me by listing the steps required to go back to stock or if they can recommend an optimized stock rom, something like that, I'd really appreciate it.
Here's what I have on there now...

and there you have to pick the file with UGJL2 firmware, download, doubleclick to extract it and then just follow the instructions in the thread fireburn postet.have fun
I run doc 9.9.5 myself, JS8 2.2.1 is a better ROM than JL2 2.2 and the speedmod kernel is also better than stock...but whatever.
I have all the Samsung stock apps on mine (not the Bell ones, don't really need them unless you pay a ton for mobile TV), but whoever cooked that one up might have left them off.
Thanks a lot folks! I might just look at possibly cooking another rom that has all the standard apps in it.
I did notice something that doesn't work in my current ROM, when I connect the USB cable, the option to mount the sd memory as a mass storage device isn't available. Does anyone else have that issue (or have you seen it before)? Do you think cooking a new ROM up in the kitchen would resolve that or do I have to go back to stock for that feature?
Thanks,
Steve
Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> USB settings
Don't know what setting it could be on now but change it to 'mass storage'
Hi...
I am trying to upgrade the firmware of my Galaxy Si9000.
When I connect to Kies, I get a pop-up saying my firmware is PHONE:JP2 and a new upgrade PHONE:JV4 is available. I tried upgrading but once the process starts,
First I get an option to Backup Data.
Then, I see a window which says "Preparing device for Firmware Upgrade"
And that's it. After some time download begins , in between 50-60% its stops
The screen on the phone stays with the working man but nothing is being upgraded till the moment when Kies asks me for firmware recovery. Unplugging the phone and restarting brings it back to its original state.I tried doing 5 to 6 times but no help.
Any idea???
My Galaxy S is currently running on Android 2.1
Kies is updated to the latest version.
and
i also tried with the manual firmware update or any other custom ROM firmware update from the trusted source provided at AndroidAdvices.com, but the problem is my device doesn't go in download mode (Volume Down Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button)...plz help me out........
1. Dear kumar, have you tried to multiply your question even more? I saw that you already asked this question in "Ask me for anything..." thread, and you have started new one... Maybe you shall ask in SG General? Maybe in SGS2 threads?
2. Buy a jig from eBay to go to download mode...
samsung galaxy si9000
instead of buying Jig ......is there any other alternative way to go in download mode?
use "adb reboot download"
You can update using the Heimdall One-Click from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330491

I downloaded the ICS 4.0 Rom that was ported to the i9000. I first had Gingerbread 2.3.5 installed on my cappy. Then I installed the speedmod kernal via odin, and booted into cwm recovery.

I was able to install the rom, it booted up fine. screen orientation doesn't work well. the back and search buttons do not work, but the home button serves as a back button. camera does not work, wifi works after you first manually enter the ap info. internal speaker doesnt work during phone call, but the external speaker does. It says that it is running on an i9000, but this is a screenshot from my captivate
If anyone would like to try this out, the thread ishere.
i wasn't sure where to post this, as i am a newbie..
so i do apologize.
But my question is.. why did my captivate boot into ics if the rom is for the i9000?
i9000 and captivate roms are interchangeable just need a captivate i9000 re-oriented kernel.
go find the captivate development section and READ.
Hey ,
I just tried the i9000 port version on My Captivate but it would get stuck in FuguMod Boot Screen
Any Ideas? I started from 2.3.5 though on MIUI.
you mean you were on miui now trying to get on to 2.3.5 ??if thats the case whenever coming off of miui or CM7 you MUST flash back to stock with a "one click odin" or regular odin INCLUDING a pit file. to re-partition the device.
miui and cm7 use a different partitioning table.
