[Q] SGS Crashes with OneCosmic's ICS 4.03 RC2.11 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Read all the Q&As I could find, and no answer nor similar problem detected.
Sometimes, when I'm in the middle of a call, the phone crashes. That's it - no other problems or crashes.
I upgraded from RC1, where I had no problems. (perhaps it's the glitch kernel.. I don't know).
Thanks in advance!

i had problems too with glitch kernel.
I suggest to install the latest revision of RC2.11 downloading from the new link (on google code) on the Onecosmic's ICS thread
It uses Fugumod kernel compiled and tweaked by nushor and works better and fine on my phone

(other question: I have stock gingerbread baseband 0725, can I use this with cm7? for now I haven't got any problem...)
edit: trying swiftextreme kernel... nothing new, bluetooth still not working..
edit2: update to lastest nightly, still not working

ICSSGS + Semaphore 1.0sbm Phone Call abortions

Hi,
I installed the Semaphore Kernel 1.0sbm Kernel today on myI9000 using ICSSGS 4.2. Since the install, Phone Calls get aborted after a short time of speaking (between 1 and 2 Minutes call time). I also overclocked the first time using voltage control after the installation. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
Greetings
I haven't personally experienced that, using the same kernel.
Short term solution is try other kernels.
Are you noticing any other symptoms? It might actually be your modem, just by chance showing its issues now.
I'm using the standard modem of the rom (xxjvu) and I'm living in Germany. Is there any better modem?
I would recommend you to upgrade your ROM to CM9's latest nightly available at http://get.cm/?device=galaxysmtd&type=nightly.
I want to stay at ICSSGS build.
Seems like the problem fixed iteself
I think you should use kernel semaphore 1.0.0bm instead of sbm. The semaphore thread explains that "s" kernel is for slim rom. But ICSSGS is not a slim rom.

Best kernel for JW6 ?

Hi !
I use Semaphore 2.7.4 with JW6 and though it's good, it still lags and the screen freezes at times. I am in Thailand but use Australian firmware cause officially there is no 2.3.6 for SGS here.
Tried midnight and speedmod but they are not so good for my phone. Is there a Devil's kernel available for this Rom ?
Somebody please advise me !
Thanks !

There isn't Devil kernel for JW6, only for CyanogenMod 7 and CyanogenMod 9. I think you tried all of available kernels. You can also try CF-ROOT kernel (only root, without mods in kernel).
JW6 is one of the latest and best ROMs for our I9000, so I'm shocked that you are not happy with it. Lags? Freezes? When?
Maybe you have some bloatware that are slowin' down your phone?
If you want stable and fast ROM, flash stable CM7 and use it's stock kernel.
CM9 is also good, but latest nightlies have some random issues (eg. weird ringer, missing power widgets).
Maybe try MNGB by Mialwe. It's my favourite, because it has many features and is responsive and fast. I never had lags with the kernel and it is made for JW4/5/6!

Best choice Samsung Galaxy S I9000 CM 10.1 + Kernel + Modem

Hi everyone!
I installed last nightly build of CM 10.1 (31/03/2013) on my Samsung Galaxy S I9000.
I also use the standard kernel that comes with CM distribution and Semaphore's ClockworkMod Recovery 2.7.4
Everything is working great, my old phone is reborn! Except for the excessive battery drain...
I read that to solve that problem one possibility is to flash a different kernel (such as Semaphore's one or Devil's one) and to change the modem. Anyway answers on the web are neither organic nor clear.
According to you:
- which is the best kernel to use in order to solve the battery drain problem? (please give me the exact version)
- which modem should i install? and where do i find it?
- [noob question] if I flash a different kernel and then i upgrade to a new nightly build do I have to flash the different kernel again? I mean, if I upgrade to a new CM release my kernel is replaced?
Thanks a lot for your precious tips!
currently I'm using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024269 with the updated 4.2 devil kernel, quite fast, not having much luck with the modem though as the supplied one didn't seem to work, flashed a few from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30588173&highlight=nz#post30588173 and finally got signal, but I'm unsure if these were meant to work with cm10.1 or not as it was an older thread for cm7/9 etc.. and I can't seem to find any info on cm10.1 modems specific to NZ
as for your kernel question; it kinda depends on the ROM, if it's an update then you will keep the kernel you had earlier, but new ROMs usually come with their own, I like to try out a few different ones and decide for myself what works for me, just make sure your kernel is made for the android version of your ROM, eg: there are devil kernels for 4.1.2 that will not work on 4.2.2, you need the 4.2 specific, also applies when flashing gapps..
Mackay and Infamous are really great and smooth. The built in kernel is very good. Set deep idle on but there is not much difference between cm10.1 kernel.

Kowalski Kernel bug - Sound recording not working or WIFI not working.

Hi,
I installed a custom ROM in my P990 and I got a problem which I'm pretty sure that's related to the kernel.
I'm using the new bootloader layout, CWM recovery 6.x.x and the problem is the same with any rom using the Kowalski kernels.
BTW: I am using Kowalski kernel from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097788
With the version M1, the sound recording crashes with any app that uses the sound recording modules (like the google NOW app or the sound recorder included in the ROMs). And with the Apha version the WIFI doesn't turn on at all (i've tried all releases including the last version kk-exp-127-alpha_31-newbl but without success).
I don't have other option but to go back to stock kernel. Anyone has the same problem?
For information: The roms I've tested were:
The ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2420304
Avatar Rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167192
Both have the same problem. Anyone?
Thank you in advance.
I think, you're using wrong Kernel. Download from Kowelski 3.1 kernel. Try with 32mb ram hack. I really don't think that 2.6 kernel works on these roms. Good luck
