this works great for testing but I can't really recommend it. gnome is heavy and eats your battery and many things can potentially go wrong. try this only if you know what you're doing. that said have fun! you can always replace your gtk/metacity in the default webtop-theme directory with a compatible theme ie one that uses theme engines that you have successfully installed
pre-reqs:
1: successfully installed webtop to sd using webtop2sd
2: fixed apt-get using webtop scripts and installed synaptic + gksu
proceedure:
1: install gnome-screensaver followed by gnome-desktop-environment using synaptic
(you can set gnome to run at start by editing osh/usr/local/bin/start-oshwt-2.sh. add line sfalv -i "gnome-session" and comment out unnecessary start ups with hash marks #)
2: run gnome-appearance-properties
(you'll notice that you can't switch controls themes.. they all look like default webtop. let's fix that)
3: break the webtop theme and essentially force ubuntu to fall back to basic. do this at osh/usr/share/themes/webtop-theme. rename gtk-2.0 to something like gtk-2.0BAK
(if you experience any problems you can always undo your rename in root explorer. this is pretty failsafe)
4: run startx via terminal and wait for webtop to reboot. admire the ugly gray basic theme.
5: run gnome-appearance-properties and you'll notice now that the controls themes look like they're supposed to and can be applied.
yay for happy accidents!

Sounds interesting. I think I will try it. I was wondering if this might be possible but I didn't want to break my webtop installation after all the work I went through to get it functioning the way it needs to be.

i'm pretty sure installing gnome is safe. i've been using it for the last 3-4 days and haven't had any issues.
should anything go wrong after renaming gtk-2.0, like webtop doesn't boot, you can use root explorer to undo your rename and it'll be back to normal.
it seems pretty safe but i haven't really tested the "procedure" on multiple devices/setups. hopefully a few people are brave enough to try it and confirm it works.
maybe some of the hardcore devs can figure out why webtop is so anal about the control theme and implement a proper fix, but i think they're pretty swamped with cm7
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=i'm pretty sure
jesus h walnuts, i gotta stop doing that.
What ROM were you running when you did this?
Interesting. I've been trying to figure out how to change that God awful gtk theme.

homebase orange #4 with update 2.6 and stock webtop.
if renaming gtk-2.0 doesn't work, try opening gtkrc and deleting everything in it then save and restart. be sure to back it up.
also since build essential doesn't play nice, you can't build the aurora GTK engine. i found an armel deb and managed to install it but it's complaining about libgdk-pixbuf-2.0.2.blahblah something. haven't got past that yet. murrine themes work fantastic tho.

I've rebuilt my webtop like 10 times this week but it seems like my process changes from run to run.
Doesn't installing gnome-screensaver cause xscreensaver to be uninstalled? I thought I remembered reading somewhere that xscreensaver was one of the packages that couldn't be messed with. Does your screensaver still work after this is done?

a screensaver works lol i don't know which it is. i can confirm that if you follow the steps exactly from a fresh install + webtop2sd + webtop scripts it does work. synaptic did throw a few errors during the gnome-desktop-environment install, but i ignored it and closed synaptic. they might have been related to xscreensaver.
after gnome is installed, you've broken webtop-theme, modified start scripts, and run startx you usually get a blank screen. at that point what generally works for me is simply closing and reopening the lapdock a few times. it's weird and a little finicky but it works
Have you guys noticed that after successfully following the instructions and installing Gnome, every time you dock the Atrix onto the Lapdock while the Atrix is LOCKED, the Webtop comes up UNLOCKED?
The Atrix cannot be accessed directly since it will be locked on the mobile window, but since Webtop is unlocked, you can browse all its content via file manager (thunar in my case) which I think it's risky.
Any thoughts?

I know it's ridiculous to quote myself, but I was thinking that messing with XScreensaver is causing my Webtop to not lock with the phone.
Quick question, what file are you commenting out in oshwt-2.sh? Also are you commenting out any in oshwt-1.sh?

here is a de-odexed ROM for the incredible that I put together, it has Launcher Pro and no HTC sense except what it needs to fully function. I have had no problems so far. this is for ROOT users and you must have ran the unrevoked REFLASH tool. this is for users that still want as senless of a ROM as possible but still be able to use some of the HTC apps.
put it on your sd card then boot into recovery, select -wipe data/factory reset then scroll down to -install zip from sdcard, then scroll once down to -choose zip from sdcard and then find the signed_070510_213150.zip and select it,
http://www.4shared.com/file/thyGHaxd/signed_070710_213150.html
it has superuser installed and everything that was needed for root. it also has wireless N enabled. if you have problems please let me know and I will try to fix it. I am not a master chef or themer, so I may not be able to help on everything but I will try. I am using dsixda's kitchen so without it I would have been completely clueless. anyways big thanks to dsixda for the kitchen, and Daneshm90 for the de-odexing files over at xda, and especially the unrevoked team for getting the reflash tool out. this is beta so use at your own risk!
programs removed:
HTC Sense (rosie)
all HTC widgets (can't use them without sense anyways)
facebook (can get a newer one from the market)
flicker
mms (replaced with handcent, removable)
twitter
HTC Album
HTC Music
HTC clock (replaced with DeskClock)
city id
pdf viewer
visual voicemail
VZ backup
Programs added:
droid x animation and sound, (sound doesn't work on my phone for some reason)
default lockscreen fixed now thanks to pardonmyfreedom
wifi tether
friendstream (added to get rid of the constant sync icon)
stock music app (removable)
youtube (from evo, removable)
astro file manager (removable)
Launcher Pro (removable if you prefer another launcher)
Rockplayer (for playing .avi files, removable)
brightness widget (removable)
3D Gallery
Geniewidget
I left the htc weather (causes FC's if removed), contacts, htc facebook, and htc fm radio

ok here is a ROM or actually a nandroid backup with JIT enabled, I could not get it to work any other way, when I cooked it into a new ROM it would always give me the bootloop but if restored from a backup i had JIT would work fine. so I had to take the datadata.img from an old backup and add it to a new backup.
http://www.4shared.com/file/jpG5DRzY/nandroid.html
this ROM is overclocked at 1.113 with wireless n and may or may not work for you, everything seems to be working fine for me, and if any app FC's on you you may have to uninstall then reinstall it. it has ADW Launcher because launcher pro kept FCing on me and would not work. I am getting around 10.110-10.936 MFLOPS in linpack and quadrant scores of around 700. it is the same ROM as the one above this minus launcher pro.
Intsall:
download the file and extract it and put it in sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
boot into recovery select nandroid/restore and select the correct backup and let it do its thing.
once it restarts it will boot up to the lockscreen but will not run the initial setup program, so you will have to manually configure the settings.
after you restore to this you should not have to clear data or cache when installing one of my ROMs.
I have a few questions before I try it out.
Does GPS have satellite locks?
Auto-dim work?
Camera 8MP?
Internal store recognized?
Bluetooth work?
Thanks

yes everything works, it is a stock ROM that I de-odexed, took some, and added some apps to. I did notice that if you run the camera from inside of 3d gallery, it won't have camera as 8MP or let you switch to video recorder, but if you open the camera app it is just fine. unfortunately I can't fix the gallery camera issue I am not a Dev. maybe someone that knows what they are doing can fix that issue.
I'm not having good luck with this ROM at all...you can read all about it at droidsp0t.com/2010/07/05/jts-senseless-rom/.
I'd love for a few others to try this ROM and see if you get the same results as me.

Its working great for me. I have had no reboots so far and I can connect to my computer just fine. I did not wipe the cache which may make a difference.
Nice work.

mine runs fine, I was using the 0.6 over clocked 1.113 undervolt kernel, I am currently going through the 0.7 kernels and will post what ones cause problems and which ones run fine.
here is a list of kernels that work for my phone with no stability issues: source http://hydrakernel.cz.cc/
stock speed undervolted kernel
#3 Overclocked Undervolted 1.15ghz Overvolt with Wirless N
#5 Overclocked Undervolted 1.113ghz Overvolt with Wireless N
I didn't test the ones without the wireless N but if you really want to I am sure they will work. (#4 or #6)
the one that would not boot:
#1 Overclocked Undervolted with Wireless N

That's good news, i will have to give it another try without wiping my cache. Should that be noted, or are people wiping cache and not having an issue as well?
Looks good. Everything seems to work. My only problem is typing 'su' in adb gets you a nasty 'Permission denied' message which is followed by the Superuser app notifying you of a root request, lol. I'm not sure I have ever had that happen. Try changing your default.prop to match the following.
Code:
ro.secure=0
ro.allow.mock.location=0
ro.debuggable=1
persist.service.adb.enable=1
I also have a hack to get a background for the stock lock screen if you are interested. Unfortunately, Android's lock screen is transparent by design.
Is this rom overclocked by default? If it is...that's more than likely why my phone reboots with this. I can't even use hydras 1.15 uvoc kernel because my phone can't handle it. I have to step down to the 1.13ghz kernel.

no it isn't OCed by default, I didn't have any problems with the 1.115 kernel or switching from that to the 1.113 kernel, I don't know why you are having so much trouble with it, I would love to hear if other people have the same problems as well. Current bugs:

Video camera crashes
Accelerometer doesn't work
Not sure about others...
Please report any bugs to [email protected]
Features:
From source AOSP ROM
Extra mods in the settings
Zero Motoblur.
Rotary lock screen(Kinda defeats the purpose at the moment haha)
Lock screen music controls(Again defeats the purpose at the moment )
Built in USB tethering
Eliot Stocker's MusicMod
Cytown phone
More to come...
Pre-install steps:
If you would like USB to work, and to have the ability to pull the battery and always reboot into recovery(as long as you don't sbf) follow these steps. You will need USB debugging enabled for these steps.
Step 1: Download the files here for windows and here for Linux depending on what OS you are running. Linux and Windows only for now.
Step 2: Windows: Run dopreinstall.bat with USB debugging on, on your phone.
Linux: Open terminal and cd to the folder you extracted the zip from. Then type "chmod 0755 dopreinstall.sh" then "./dopreinstall.sh" with USb debugging on, on your phone.
How to install:
Step 1: Download and install Koush's bootstrap application if not already done.
Step 2: Copy Unleashed30AlphaDX.zip to your sdcard and then unmount
Step 3: Bootstrap recovery, then reboot recovery
Step 4: Mount /system in mounts and storage
Step 5: Install Unleashed30AlphaDX.zip from the sdcard
Step 6: Wipe data/factory reset(Not needed if coming from any Fission release, but recommended, as it may help fix some bugs)
Step 7: Reboot.
Step 8: Once your phone boots, give it around 2-3 minutes before you start using it. Tap the screen every 30-40 seconds to keep it from locking and rebooting.
Step 9: If you get stuck at the Setup Wizard, go back to the "Welcome To DROIDX" screen and tap all four corners until it either goes to the home screen, or when you hit the home button it goes to the home screen.
Step 10: Once out of the Setup Wizard, go to your settings, display, and set the display lock to 30 minutes so it doesn't keep shutting off and rebooting.
For USB to work, you will need to have the USB cable plugged in while booting or it will not charge or allow you to copy files to your sdcard. You can always charge through an outlet though.
When you boot, you may get a few force closes. Always select wait on these. You may also get Android System, select wait for that also.

What you are talking about is hijack. This uses hijack, this is from source. Has 0 blur in it. Stock 100%.
Stock Kernel?

Yeah, it uses the stock kernel. That's what hijack is used for.
Alright I'm somewhat confused. Just to be clear, the kernel that is in this rom is NOT what is included in any of the motorola OTA's correct? If so, your awesome.

I'm confused as well. I thought hijacking meant you were able to kick into a custom kernel somehow. Can someone explain this hijack thing to me?
It sounds like the rom is just a stripped apart OTA.

No from my understanding this is very different. This is built from the actual source files provided by google, so it doesn't start from the ota updates from moto. Whereas other roms take the moto roms and strip away as much as they can, this starts from the actual source files from google so it contains nothing from Moto in the rom itself. Yes, you still get the Moto kernel, but this is a big step forward. To get to this point is really amazing--mad props to everyone.

Yeah the kernel is still a big problem but this should make custom roms a lot easier once the bugs are worked out. Full cyanogen needs a custom kernel I hear but at least we can get something close hopefully.

Agreed! A rom that is truly from source I would think should be much faster than a moto rom that has been stripped out! ...guess we will see!

Awesome! I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere but does it matter if I'm running the P3droid's leaked 2.3.320 software?
For what it's worth here's the Quadrant scores (no overclocks, etc., but it looks like stagefright is on by default in the rom). Yes it is fast.

I tried this out on 2.3.320. It was really fast and is almost good to use as a daily driver. Of course not being able to turn the screen off without it rebooting is kind of a big deal. Great work guys - I have been wanting AOSP on my X for a long time.
I removed the install and went back to an old nandroid but will be following the progress closely. Thanks again.

fix busybox dependencies with Stephen's Busybox installer app
ln -s /system/bin/busybox /system/etc/webtop2sd/busybox so that /system/bin/mountosh knows where to look for busybox to mount the new partition.
Use installer to put busybox in /system/bin. Right now it's probably installed under /bin.
I started a doc this weekend when I was rebuilding my phone. These are the steps I used. I used them again last night after I whorked up my webtop.
And I have to do them again right now since I just updated Aura to 1.1.0. Copying and pasting is so much easier off one document.
This doc basically is a compilation of the threads of how to do everything. Just jammed in one doc.
And it has worked for me. So use at your own risk, all warnings that have been stated in the quoted threads apply.
PM to me corrections if necessary and I'll update. I was typing the same time I was applying the mods. I've read it a couple of times, looks good to me but I'm biased.
Here it is......

I used the program to install 1.19 in system/bin, but i dont know what that means

Is that a command im supposed to run? If so, where does it begin, in -s or in in? Can i do that in android terminal emulator?

The command is 'ln -s /system/bin/busybox /system/etc/webtop2sd/busybox' creates a symbolic link to the busybox binary (installed in /system/bin/) to the link in /system/etc/webtop2sd/busybox. You can read more about it by doing a 'man ls' on any ubuntu box or on http://manpages.ubuntu.com.
This shouldn't be required, but for some reason, paths don't show up and it's a workaround that I've confirmed works. Sogarth is working on a fix for this in an upcoming version of WebTop2SD. Until then, try my suggested fixes...
Hope this helps,
Alex
About to attempt this on my phone, wish me luck. Perhaps I'm asking for a flaming, but I was wondering if it would be possible to package this into a newb friendly zip. Or if developers could include it in their roms? I enjoy using ubuntu on my laptop and would love to replace webtop with it.

I actually have steps 1 & 3 done in what will be the working version of Joe's webtop mod v2, as my last one didn't work that well and I thought I owed it to Joe to give him a working one. If you're brave, you can moto-flash this now.
*removed* - not working for me or jruweaver.
I say brave because I have yet to flash it myself, I'm unlocking my wife's 1.8.3 right now so I can, but it'll take awhile to do so. I'll post it in Joe's thread once I've confirmed it works.
Worse comes to worse, it won't work and you'll need to flash Joe's v1 again...
Hope this helps,
Alex

Thank you, will post my results.
EDIT: I flashed it successfully but nothing appears to have changed(had joe's version installed). Did I forget something?
Hmmm... flashed a couple of times on mine, got nothing, just like you described... Did it again a final time and now webtop is dead... Removing for now...
Im exercising deep patience here, but I dont know what to do anymore. I unninstalled the script and the app, then began it from scratch. First created the webtop2sd folder, then installed busybox on /bin, then executed the command to create the link. Installed webtop2sd, executed with partitioning and formatting, rebooted the phone, told to reinstall configurator, reboot again, and still, when clicking the configurator on webtop, nothing happens. =|
Im starting to teach myself how to use google docs, looking up office 365 too, because this just isnt working...

Used qume and other methods for launching a windows image even had micro xp all the way to installation with qume mimicking the 32-bit minimal specs but it kicked out half way through expanding the copied files realistically the specs arnt enough to support a full vm through qume or vb though when and if the next windows is cross platform on arm and 32-bit and 64-bit we may or may not be able to try a windows vm through qume or vb. Though to skip installation all together track down standalone xp it launches in a windows platform without installation using qume and try booting the image in ubuntu I haven't matched the specs to get it booted its missing something I have a link I can pm from my dropbox (I doubt it after trying several attempts myself but hell your welcome to try)
This mod enables the Nexus 7 phablet UI on the Xoom without modifying the framework-res.apk! The script searches for entries and changes them, so no other entries are affected, and no files are replaced. This mod also includes an addon.d script.

What is addon.d?
On some ROMs, like Cyanogenmod, there are scripts in /system/addon.d that run during a ROM update or flash. They can backup and restore system apps (like Gapps), or perform many other functions. This mod includes an addon.d script, so the mod is not lost during a ROM update! If your ROM doesn't support addon.d, this mod should still flash properly, but you won't benefit from addon.d.
Tested and Confirmed to work on:
CyanogenMod 10
EOS 3 (thanks Mjamocha!)
It should work on any AOSP based Android 4 - 4.1 ROM. Let us know if it works! Since 4.2 was changed to be this way by default, there should be no need for this mod on AOSP based 4.2 ROMs.

Nice Mod sir!
It works on EOS3 Stingray.
Your images aren't showing up.
Edit: Now they are!
I see them now. Yeah, the settings page in the phablet UI shows in phone mode, one stretched out list, not tablet style.
Much faster, the bar is a lot bigger so the soft keys aren't so small and difficult to tap and it is just overall less glitchy, with the other mod, my Xoom restarted every time I held the power button, with yours everything works just fine. Thank you so much.
Oh and the keyboard is so much bigger and better to type on, it seems the other one makes the screen size feel smaller so it all is very much wasting screen real estate.
Telling you guys, this version works amazing on EOS 3 146, it works without making it glitchy and the soft keys are just right. The other mod just doesn't compare to this one really.

Testing on MZ601 3G Running EOS Nightly 114.
Edit: Seems to be one issue idk if this noticed or normal or what but id like to share, it seems that on the homescreen mode it will not rotate, on apps it will though, otherwise it works brilliantly.

In CM10, the default launcher has an auto-rotate setting. Not sure how EOS 3 is setup. You could always use Nova.

The appstore reads the tablet as a different device so when I go to the store I cannot update or download some apps, including Netflix. It just says the device is not compatible with my device.

I love it!
My xoom get's very very beautiful *-*
Updated zips. It now also puts a script in /system/addon.d, so you don't have to flash this mod again after every ROM update (assuming your ROM supports addon.d scripts. CM does)!
works on cna
I flashed it on cna 3.6.6 and works perfectly, because it separates Navigation and notification bar a lot of settings that didn't work before now they do.
Seriously, I just noticed your mod, it is awesome and amazing.... keep up the good work. I hope your mod can be included in a ROM as an option. Great work... working well here...
This is something I have wanted to do since we figured out how to flash CWM Recovery, it just took me a while to get it working right.
This is not an AOSP Rom, so don't expect a lot, it's just a flashable package that adds some stuff that the Ouya is missing. This is based on the Ouya 264 r1 software.
Changes from stock:
-Added apks - Busybox, Dropbox (should include a free 50gb upgrade), ES File Explorer, Nova Launcher, Pandora, Google Play Music, Superuser, Titanium Backup, and Youtube for Google TV
-Removed Kernel and Recovery flash from the installer
Bugs I have run into:
-OTA updates will still download and install. This will be fixed before the first stable release.
Instructions (shamelessly stolen from mybook4):
-You need CWM Recovery installed to flash this
-Do a backup in CWM before flashing (seriously, you'll have something to go back to if things go awry)
-Wipe cache
-Wipe dalvik cache
-Data wipe is optional, and comes with it's own set of instructions
This is a beta ROM, and I have spent a few hours in testing, but nothing can be fully tested by one individual. It is a flash at your own risk ROM. Don't flash it if you are afraid to break something. Please provide me any feedback or suggestions you have.
I wanted to include Hulu Plus and Netflix, but they don't like being flashed, so I'll add easy download links later. so you can sideload them yourselves, I'm about to head to dinner.
If you do wipe data I recommend for ease of setup that when it asks you which launcher you want to use on first boot, choose Ouya launcher then "only once" and run through the initial setup till you're at the main Ouya launcher screen. then hold down the "Ouya" button in the middle of the controller to simulate the "home" key, and choose Nova Launcher and "always". Enjoy!!

cool, if i actually manage to get CWM installed i may give this a try.
How much of a difference is there between this and ChickenStock?
It's similar in that it's a stock based ROM, but Chickenstock is meant to be disaster recovery, a solid base for rom building, or an easy flash to add superuser permissions to the console, but keep the focus on the Ouya experience. I designed Ouya Plus to be a quick flash for people who want to add some additional functionality to their Ouya, to make it do more than the limited minds that designed it intended. This is an Android console, and every media application you could ever want is available for android, so why should we be denied pandora or netflix, just because the Ouya people want to lock down their "console" to only allow things bought off of their store to work?
I wanted to make an easy way to add extra media functionality and system tools to the Ouya, without everyone having to track down and sideload the .apks themselves. I'm working on an easy way to install some of the other apks that i've been having issues with, and I also want to Deodex this rom so that custom themes can be applied, but I've run into trouble every time I've tried to use an automatic tool, so I'm going to try the last one I know of (xultimate) on it, and then I'll resign myself to deodexing each app manually and see what happens.
how exactly do you flash this to ouya?. I installed cwm recovery.
Once CWM is running, copy the zip to your internal storage, use adb or rom manager to reboot into recovery. The choose "install zip from sdcard", select the zip file from it's location, and it'll flash, then just reboot.
Installed and loving it , thx to the OP.

Installed via CWM - all working well but controlling some of the apps is a nightmare!
I've got RomToolbox Pro installed and it makes roobooting easier. I also installed MX pro but I can't get any control at all!

That's cool but how is that possible? And is it 50gb for 2 years?
Sent from my GT-I9300
Probably the SGS3 version of the Dropbox APK or something similar. If it is, then it's version 1.0 of the Dropbox, so it doesn't do well with mobile authentication, but if you disable that for 5 minutes, the 2 year (24 month officially, I believe) upgrade is probably worth the relatively minimal security risk.
Thank you
I managed to install your ROM and so far I am enjoying it very much. I do want to let others know about my experience in dirty flashing this ROM. I wiped cache and Dalvik cache, but did not do a full wipe before flashing.
On the first boot i got a flood of force closures on the OUYA Launcher process. It almost made the system unusable as a new one came up as soon as i acknowledged the previous. After about a minute of this they started to ease up a bit and i could operate Android with around 1-2 force closes every minute. I went to settings->apps->All-> Ouya Launcher->Clear Data.
This immediately stopped the force close errors and the OUYA launcher still works.
Aside from this the only other observation i have is that the on screen pointer for my wireless mouse feels "smoother" than out of the box.
Ohh and thanks for the 50GB dropbox upgrade.
Okay, maybe i didn't notice at home last night because i was on Ethernet, but i took my OUYA to a different location with no Ethernet and realized that my wifi will not initialize.

This sounds great! I'll be sure to try it as soon as I get the balls up to install CWM on it. It's kinda been sitting there gathering dust at the moment as I haven't been that inspired.

Did you ever get a deodexing method working (I see ouyaplusb6.zip is still odexed... as is the 328 OTA), I was reading somewhere that an odexed rom causes issues porting, so I want to get my hands on a deodexed OTA to use as a base.

Sorry guys, I've been pretty lazy on this front since getting back from my 2 week business trip, but I may get a chance to work on a new version tomorrow evening. MasterZen88 if you can get the latest OTA to deodex that would be awesome, and I'll update Ouya Plus to use it as the base, with your permission.
