[Q] Not receiving some texts at random - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically, I receive texts, and can send them fine. But from experiences, I don't get some replies. So I sent a text to a girl I know who replies, and she didn't. So I text asking if she replied, and she said she had. I do sometimes not get the text for a while, and then the next reply I get the previous.
I have heard many reasons as to why and fixes, but none have worked. Some to do with simply being rooted, others a non UK baseband, or a miss match with build prop. No real solutions have come up, only these possible causes.
I am in the UK, on Orange, have 3 or 4 bars (although that has nothing to do with signal strength) and on CM9.
Any help appreciated, hope someone replies unlike some other topics on here, and my texts!

Wow - this is EXACTLY the same problem I have.
I discovered it in September last year. Had trouble even explaining to my network (Meteor in Ireland) that this was happening and to be honest they just didn't believe me. I gave them a list of examples that they checked out and they said that every single one had gone through successfully.
In the interests of research I've been using an old Nokia phone for the last 3 weeks. Twice I asked friends to text me and let me know if I didn't reply. Not one single text was missed. So, it indeed looks like a problem with the Galaxy.
I'm running a rooted SGS with Darkys Rom so I'm going to spend some time today doing a hard reset and stuff but that's just a shot in the dark.
HAS ANYBODY FOUND A SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE??

I'm not sure if that's the same! Mine is with receiving texts! I will send one, not receive a reply, so ask if they did reply nd they reply saying they did!
I have heard its being routed that is the problem...
I've also had a thought that it might be the fact my number has changed Sim cards for so many years now, that might be the problem!
Also, my SMS center is reset. Set via gosms now!

No, it's exactly the same. Absolutely 100% exactly the same.
(The point I made about my replying to texts was to do with my "test": I asked my friends to send me texts and I told them I'd reply to every single one immediately; if I didn't reply to a text it meant that the other person would know that I probably didn't get it. A very effective test actually.)

[Q] New Year Failure

Hey guys, happy new year first off. Now, my problem started right after new years where I receive a text message from a friend. Keeping in mind that i have a i896, i flashed to cognition 2.3b8 or w/e the newer version is called. I try to reply to my friend when all of a sudden it fails. So I try calling him instead, that failed as well. I tried texting and calling other people but that failed as well, yet my browser still continued to work. After an hour, no data can be found on my phone so now I am confused. I probably rebooted my phone 10 times by now. Anyhow, I reboot it and launcher pro settings are messed up, saying im not a pro member when i clearly paid for it as well as my phone not being able to receive any data from Rogers. Now, I randomly get a text from a friend, in which i cannot reply to once again. Is there anyway to fix this issue as it is quite random?
Sounds like a modem issue to me man. I would reflash and make sure you follow the instructions to the letter.
Also please post in the correct forum, this is not a development issue, it is Q&A.
What do you mean by the "letter." I will certainly reflash and repost in right section.

He means follow the instructions step by step and do exactly as they say even if you think you can skip a step or don't think it's necessary.

AT&T Voicemail STILL down!?!?!?

Don't ask me why - but I have been back to using AT&T's default voicemail system which isn't all that impressive but I got tired of Google Voice's horrible voice-to-text translation of my voicemails.
Needlesstosay, I am sure MANY are aware that AT&T has been having some sort of ongoing ticket with their voicemail system. I discovered this when I called their customer care the other day and they blatantly admitted they were aware of it. They attempted to reset my voicemail much to no avail. It still continues to ring 4 times and then still says its dialing but I hear nothing but silence. They told me if I still had the problem today to call them back.
I honestly doubt that calling AT&T back will resolve anything. However, I'm just curious how many others are having the same issue and what the outcome has been for you? Please post your results. Thanks!
sorry i went to google voice voicemail and never looked back ....
Same here!
I use GV but I see the transcriptions as a bonus feature. If it works, thats great. Otherwise, i dont bother with it. You can generally get the idea of what they're saying, even if its not 100% accurate.
Yup, gv ftw.

Well it seems access has been restored and now I'm back to using Google Voice to avoid this from ever happening again. F AT&T. Thanks for those who posted their input.

[Q] Still can't receive calls... why is this phone doing this to me???

Ok so 3 weeks ago people started to report that I didn't answer their calls, that's because my phone didn't show them at all (only a few times). I updated baseband, problem stayed the same. Now, at the moment I have flashed my 5th baseband (all the suggested ones), and the phone still doesn't show if some one calls me, even though I hear it ringing (sometimes it does though, but mostly not)! I'm really really really tired of this, I don't know what to do, as I can't sell this phone this way either... Any suggestions?? If i flash back original LG 2.3 ROM, will it change back my baseband too? I guess that should be the way, but I'm really interested in any hints, as I'm helpless from now.
CM9, 0725baseband (I was using this until baseband updating too, I just flashed it back)
UPDATE: Currently works with LGP990AT-00-V10b-EUR-XX-MAR-09-2011+0_CP.fls, not sure if temporary or permanently.
Installed matching RIL? If not, this could be a reason, was my fault sometimes.

When in Owain's CM9 I wouldn't receive some calls too. My RIL and Baseband were matching, same as when in GB.
After a while I flashed CM7 and don't have anymore problems.

2 Nexus 4 Issues That Need to Be Addressed

After using the Nexus 4 for 24 hours, I have found I have two gripes with this phone. The first is there is no audible alert if you receive a text message while on a call. In other words, if someone sends you a text message while you are on a call, you will not be made aware of it until you turn on the screen and look at it. The other gripe I have is the call waiting beep is almost completely inaudible, and the second beep sometimes doesn't even occur. In other words, if you are on a phone call, and a second call comes in, you most likely will not know about it and thus will not be know to answer the call. Today I have missed several phone calls because I was on the phone and a call waiting beep could not be heard. As an experiment, I got on a call and then called my phone from a third phone just to hear the volume of the call waiting beep...it is so low it may as well not be there. To make matters worse, after the first beep, the second beep takes so long to occur, your voicemail may likely pick it up either right before or right after the second beep occurs.
Software, not nexus 4 issue. I'm sure there's an app or will be implemented into ROM to solve your problem.

The software comes stock on the Nexus 4 thus it is a Nexus 4 issue. Not being alerted to a second call isn't something that can be easily excused with, "there's an app or will be implemented into a ROM". A person shouldn't need to install apps or hack their phone just so they can know when a second call is coming in...after all it's a smartPHONE..
Sms issue can be solved with a 3rd party Sms app the call beep not so big of an issue to me so that's all I can say.

Maybe not being alerted of calls isn't a big deal to you, but there are some of us that get important calls throughout the day, and not being alerted to them is not acceptable. Call me old-fashioned but I expect a phone to actually be able to handle phone duties, and alerting me to a second call is one of those duties. That's a pretty basic expectation, and a glaring flaw that needs to be corrected.

Clearly you like the phone so how is complaining here gonna help, I wonder. I'm assuming there are no options available in call settings or sound that can remedy this issue. If not you have to get a third-party option whether you like it or not
I'm guessing you've set the phone to vibrate for incoming messages?

Shouldn't it be the same pretty much like the gnex 4.2 update? Why wouldn't those things work?? What happened from the recent release to now?

It's clear I like the phone? I haven't stated how I feel about the phone besides the two issues I have with it. Also, for your information, complaining is how issues get resolved because it brings it more attention. Some of us aren't content with resting on our laurels and accepting the subpar. Furthermore, 3rd party software should not be required just to get simple basic functionality. Instead of excusing shortcomings, you should be demanding a complete device. Also, to be clear, I want to like the phone and want to see it succeed. I have a vested interest in it (which I won't get into publicly), so it actually benefits me for it to be a good phone and do well. That said, if it's falling short somewhere then it needs to be corrected and not just covered up.

It's set to have both an audible alert and vibrate on incoming messages. The problem is, during a phone call, neither of these things happens. There literally is no alert during a phone call other than the icon on the screen. In other words, if you don't happen to be looking at your screen, you will never know you have a text message if you are on a phone call.

Yep, but it matter not. In the end, the result is the same. It appears to be a glaring oversight (the call waiting beep).
Uhm, I can has phone?
I'm sure if this is a common problem on devices, Google will probably update it and fix the problem. You can always contact Google and let them know as well.

First of all, it's not a Nexus 4 issue, it's a 4.2 issue.
Second of all, I doubt Google would remove a feature they have had since...idk 2.2(the first version of Android I had). Try a restore, or mess with the settings...or maybe you're holding it wrong.

Time Stamp for Call History?

Just switched from iOS to Android (used to be an active member of the forums for WinMo), so forgive me as I know this has been asked before, but I didn't find any results in HTC ONE forum. I am having issues with the call history. It doesn't show a time only the date. There has to be a way to fix this on the stock dialer but I can't seem to find it anywhere in the settings. Any advice would be ideal. I prefer not to download a third party app for this fix but if this is the only way that would be fine, I guess. Thank you in advance.

Good question. 4.3 Sense 5
Date and time for text messaging only date for call history. It's annoying and I'm already over the 14 day mark otherwise I would return the device for that simple reason.

Yes, I'm have the same issue. I just got mine a week ago and installed the upgrade to 4.3 soon afterwards. The software on HTC One is not as intuitive as other phones I have had. The time of call is a basic and important part of call information, so it's beyond comprehension how anyone could leave this off.
I will contact HTC, and hopefully they will include a fix in their next update. How ridiculous to forget something like this. They seemed to have focused on doing a great job on the hardware and completely ignored UX on this phone.
