[SOLVED]Problem with Voodoo LOUDER - volume keeps decreasing - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[SOLUTION]
Use +9dB as maximum boost (this is now the set default in the Note as Supercurio has found +10.5dB seems to cause headset detection confusion with some headsets).
Wondering if anyone else is having a problem where the system media volume periodically drops back with Voodoo LOUDER running? I note the problem seems to be worse when using line-out rather than just headsets?
I'm on Rocket ROM V15, Abyss-Kernel 2.8, KL7 with KL7 modem.
I've so far tried the following to fix it to no avail:
Thought it might be PowerAMP related, so tried all manner of permutations in PowerAMP settings, disabling headset automatic activities, advanced audio engine settings etc --> no success
Tried other music players - stock and Ubermusic --> no success
Different headsets --> no luck
Using the Voodoo LOUDER slider instead of the Smart Boost --> same problem
Given none of that works I'm wondering if this is a kernel issue (even though the whole compatibility check runs fine). If no one has any better suggestions I'll flash another kernel this evening and see if that helps.
I have contacted Supercurio, but thought someone else here might have already cracked this one for me?

If you disable "Smart Boost" in Voodoo LOUDER, the app loose any ability to affect volume at all.
I'm not sure in your report if it's what you meant by "instead of smart boost"

Oh really? Because when I turn that off I can still increase the volume with the slider option, so because of that I thought you could either have slider or use the Smart Boost. Regardless, it's not working with Smart Boost either!

Hi NZtechfreak! I've seen your awesome videos on Youtube!
Anyways, I've been considering purchasing Voodoo because of the terrible sound quality on my GNote, but was wondering if you managed to correct the issue.
Also, a side question, does Voodoo improve the in-call volume when using the 3.5mm jack? I ask because it is TERRIBLY low when I have it connected to the AUX in my car.
Thanks

I just installed it on mt E4GT and when i max out the volume is causes my music player to stop. Whether its on smart boost or not

The issue was that on max boost the headset detection gets confused, Supercurio mentioned this in his latest update. The max boost on the Note is now +9dB and it works perfectly (still more than sufficient). Hasn't made a noticeable difference to in-call volume in the car (I use mine in the same way you do). Presumably only affects media volume.

Thanks for the update

The big question is, is it worth the $15?

What is $15?
Edit: ah, lol New Zealand dollars, I was really wondering what it was about & checked.
Edit2
Wait.. seems like a bug.
Edit3
Fixed.

Any plans of solve the issue that when you up to 10.5dB all music playing stop?
Hope that you are working on this because if not i dont understand why you still keep the 10.5dB option in the app if it doesnt work :S

Or how about going beyond +3db for ICS? It doesn't do squat anymore

Does not work with Cm. Damn...

[Q] Low volume when using headphones on Galaxy Tab

Hi all - has anyone else had issues with the volume when using a headset being way too low? I've tried the headset that come bundled, as well as my iPhone earbuds as well as 3 other pairs and they all sound substantially lower in volume than on my iPhone or Samsung Wave. I've made sure that the media/system/etc volume(s) are all at 100%, yet I can hardly hear a movie play back when on the train but have no issues when using my iPhone, Wave, or even sandisk clip mp3 player...
thoughts?
I had this issue and it drove me crazy. Then I realized that I had to push the headphone jack in harder to go all the way in. Once I did that, the volume was outstanding. I had to push harder than I expected.
I also noticed lower max headphone volume when compared against a similar product. Hopefully a patch will take care of this. I'm using a BT motorola s9.

I noticed that too actually - at first I realized I could push it in more ever so slightly (more effort to do so than I would've' thought), but unfortunately that didn't change anything :-\

ah, so you're having the issue w/a bluetooth headset too? I've just been able to try wired headsets/phones
Same issue here, fully plugged in.
Most noticable in-call with CSipSimple.
Anyone not having this issue?
I had a similar issue with volume set to max. I realized that if you reduce the volume and then increase it again up to max everything is fine.

Volume too low
I have the same problem. I spoke with Samsung support and was told that they know of no way to increase the volume.
Go figure...
Anyone figure this out yet? Or is the Tab too new to receive enough attention?
Simply go to settings, equalizer, custom, set all frequencies to max... enjoy the extra volume

Actually, you click the volume up to the max, then click down two clicks. Many modems have this bug.
Hi guys, I need help about this issue. Samsung stock headphones are well set into the hole and i can hear during a phone call but it is really really low. And no matter if you push it down strongly it just doesn't improve. It is a bit better with media. Tried some Sony Ericsson phones, a bit better bust still very low. Mic works fine in both cases. Help me please, because I can't make decent phone calls.
Anybody having this issue? I am stuck with headphones. They work almost fine when watching media content. The volume during a phone call is almost impossible to hear even with no background noise.I have tried different headphones but it's not helping. I still have to make a test using bluetooth. Is it a hardware issue or a software issue? I have a stock rom (Model: GT-P1000, FW: 2.2, BB: P1000XXJK5, Build: FROYO.XWJJ7). Do you think I can solve the issue upgrading to Gingerbread?
Voodoo Control
Hi everybody!
Did you try the market app 'Voodoo Control'? Nice one to maximise volume, but this requires a custom kernel implementing voodoo patches, I assume.
I had this problem too, but with the newest version of the Overcome ROM on gingerbread voodoo control is built into the kernel which allows you to increase the maximum volume of headphone output by using the voodoo control app.
Hope this helps!

You are mainly saying that the only way to use my tab as a phone is by installing a custom ROM? Upgrading to 2.3 stock ROM would not fix the issue I assume.

Most probably its a software error. Try wiping cache partition.

[Q] Improve the volume

Now that we have an app for Netflix's instant watching, it is essential to increase the volume of the CN speaker.
Since I am rooted (CM7) I thought there would be a way to do it.
I didn't find anything. Can someone help?
thanks
In cm7 there is a already increased volume output than the normal on the speakers.
But if you want more bass try looking at these lines of kernel in
\dalingrinKernel\sound\soc\codecs\tlv320dac3100.h
Look at line 298
/* DAC volume normalization, 0=-127dB, 127=0dB, 175=+48dB */
#define DAC_MAX_VOLUME 175
#define DAC_POS_VOL 127
I don't understand why the max volume has been limited to 48 when the chip can do up to 90 or something.
This might not increase the volume level( i am just guessing though) but i might give us a better sound quality in terms of bass and treble.

There is no setting if you are using dals overclock kernel, then you will get a higher volume output.
Yeah I don't really think it's going to get much better than it is right now. The speaker on their is tiny, almost as if the company who specked it was designing an e-reader instead of a tablet...
I think the options right now are for $4 you can get some headphones, for $20 you can get an amplified external 3.5mm speaker or with a little patience they might get the Bluetooth working with some range and you could use a Bluetooth speaker. If you wanted to go all hybrid you could plug in a 3.5mm rechargeable Bluetooth transmitter in and hook it up to an external Bluetooth speaker right now.
Also, as a side note, I notice the sound quality is GREATLY improved with the built in speaker just by having it inserted correctly into the BN stand / case I have. There's a little grove on one side for the speaker and when I put it in the "wrong" way the sound is muted and dull but flip it over and it's almost good enough to listen to in a silent room.
On the subject of sound, is there any real difference in battery drain between using the speakers vs using headphones? I use headphones mostly because of crowded environments and listening to music/watching videos at night.
Here's how I increased the volume on my nook color:
Open DSPManager
Select "Phone Speaker"
Enable the equalizer and make sure the preset is set to custom
Tap the graph thing
Bring every bar up to 10.0
tap OK
Your nook should now be louder

Thanks. This actually helped a lot. I also changed the size of effect to extreme which seemed to help. This brought the volume of the speaker to listenable. Quality still sucks, but that is expected. I assume constantly running an equalizer will drain the battery but probably worth it. Again, thanks. Now I can hear my HBO and Netflix.

If not go to the market and search for it
does dspmanager effect battery? it does make it louder though.
DSPmanager is one of the icons for apps.

I use Volume+ from Market. It's similar to DSPManager but it has a Specific setting for Boosting Volume. One weird quirk with it though is that the "Speaker" settings effect Headphones as well even though there are separate "Headset" and "Bluetooth" settings.
Android 2.3 roms only.

Just downloaded volume+. The volume boost works quite well. I think it works better than DSPManager. It's available in the market for pay or available from the developer online for free.
IS the free volume+ app from http://androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread? I just downloaded it and it seems to work great. Thanks for the recommendation!

That's where I downloaded it.
That Volume + sure does work. I had to turn of my notifications to 0 decibels as they are to loud. I don't need to know when emails are received.
Would recommend this until someone finds a better one. It would be an improvement if there was one with more volume settings.
I'm making an app to adjust headphone and speaker volume independently on the Nook. This is sorely needed in my opinion because not only is the speaker quiet but there is terrible hiss on my headphones. I am making the app because there isn't a one size fit all solution. Everyone's headphones have different sensitivity, etc.
Where did U find the free version?
At market there is only Volume control +
See post 15.

[Q] Increase Headphone Volume/Remove EU volume limit?

Hello guys,
I recently bought a Galaxy Mini 3 (EU-Version) and I want to use it as an Music Player, only. I have pretty good headphones but I need a push in volume. Because of the EU volume limit the sound is just too low for me.
Is there any way to remove the limit or boost the volume, f.e. with a program or another kernel? I have CM11 installed, if it helps.
Thank you!
just buy a good music player app!
i recommend GoneMAD. There is replaygain, boost, etc implemented. Best player in google store imho
Turn it loud and your ears will fly away ...

I do have one - Power Amp (paid). There's replaygain, too, but it doesn't work. Maybe it's because of the EU-version and the in-built volume limit, I don't know. FurthermoreI do have pretty good In-Ears, too, so I don't think, that is the problem why replaygain doesnt work (Yamaha EPH-100 ~150$).
Is there no Custom Rom or Kernel that I could flash?

No there isn´t.
I use GoneMAD and can only use about 60-70% of volume, otherwise my head explode because it´s too loud.
So i don´t know what´s going wrong on your device...

Ok, that's very unfortunate. Do you have an EU device, too. If not, then that's the reason, maybe. If yes, well, then I don't have any kind of idea. I tried GoneMad for a few minutes, but it didn't help either. I just can't raise the volume. I used to do this on other devices and at some point you could hear some kind of distortion and of course the increased volume, but with the mini, nothing. Just plugged my Headphones in my Ipod Touch where I've no EU volume limit because I removed it and it's way louder...
Edit: Nevermind, I just use my Fiio E17 for this. Thank you for the help.
Hi,
I have the same request, i lives in france and so i have a volume limit inbuilt on my S3 mini GT-I8190.
I found a tuto for the S3 (at mobilenewspedia) and try to apply it to the S3 mini but i didn't found the default_gain.conf file.
Thanks
Hi,
I finally flashed my s3 mini with cm11.
On volume settings there is an option "limit headphone", i thought it will resolve my issue but it seems that my max volume (limit setting unchecked) is always limited by european law

Volume Boost Note 8

Is there a way to boost the volume without Root?
Thanks for any help!
need that too!
First make sure your media volume limiter is off, then go to equalizer and push all frequencies to max, that should give you about 10 dB extra.
Can't promise that it will work but they're is an app called SpeakerBoost that I've installed
..... Seems to work

how do you do that
settings/sounds and vibration/sound quality and effects
actually just go to settings, click on search functions (circle with with line on the bottom, top right corner) and type media volume limiter, or whatever function you're looking for
I try it, but continue with low volume. My previous Note 2 had louder audio.
ok
Just a comment, my 950F does not have a media volume limiter option
Download "Speaker Booster" on the Play Store. Hope this helps
I tried pretty much everything but nothing really actually worked. If you use the SoundAlive profiles or boost the EQ it just limits the two top volume levels from working.
I have now rooted and manually changed the mixer_gains.xml file and it's amazing now. super loud with no distortion at all.
Sadly rooting is really the only way to go. Dunno why Samsung limit the volume so much when the DAC is capable of a far better volume output. It's the one thing that really lets this handset down.

All you need to do is change the values in mixer_gains.xml as per the screenshot. Root only of course.
This is only for the wired headphone volume.
After trying about 5 models of headphones and being ridiculously low volume in all of them (especially in Spotify and YouTube videos), I found a expensive solution, but that has solved the problem withoutroot, i have bought the Jaybird X3, very good quality, very good volume and good insulation, despite being in ear.
I still think that with normal headphones, such as those that come in the box of AKG, Xiaomi Piston 2, Sony STH32, Sony SBH24 or even the great AudioTechnica M40X the volume is ridiculously low on this mobile.
Greetings.
It is ridiculously low, and has been on Samsung mobiles for a while now. Seems they need to protect us from ourselves. sad.
As stated above, root and a simple change to a text file makes one hell of a difference.
Another good solution is an external DAC like the Creative E3. It works well too and no need to root.

Could you please advice if this would work if you use Bluetooth devices, such as speakers or headphones? I mean it is so annoying that samsung actually achieve year over year to have worst volume... just when you think it couldn't get worst.

Snapdragon (Audio Boost mod or option?)

I have the Snapdragon/Sprint so no root available. My question is if there anyway to boost the volume of the audio as it sounds rather low for what's supposed to be a good device. I come from the LG V20 and I know it doesn't compare but if anyone knows a way to get a higher volume please help.
I have different earbuds and they all sound rather low. Even the ones that the phone came with.

for music you have stored locally you can use poweramp music player. it allows you to adjust the gain.
for streaming music there isn't a very good option without root.
your LG device has a quad-DAC (typical of LG devices) and that's what made it louder. your samsung does not have this feature so it's not going to be as loud.
