Is there a ROM out there that is all inclusive? I don't mind doing the kernal first, but I don't understand the APN thing well enough. Is there a ROM that does not require any additional setup and settings to work on AT&T's network?
You can't know your limits until you exceed them.

first of all, this is in the wrong section. it belongs in general since we dont have a Q&A. questions dont go in dev section.
secondly. as of this moment, NO, we cannot flash the kernel with the rom. you can thank not having S-Off for that.
i have fixed the APNs issue and have provided this file to all the rom guys to incorporate. it IS in my next beta.
Haven't purchased my vivid yet but been following the forum closely. Great work pirate. I'll be donating when I make the jump to the vivid.

I have a few questions...
If i root using this method
forum . xda-developers . com / showthread.php?t=694572 (i had the regular link, but it told me since im new i cant post it)
is there a way that i can install a kernal to get it to 710 mhz? Kinda like the one in Buufed 2.1.2. I had it before and my battery life was great and the phone was really fast and responsive, but i wanted my visual voicemail.
Also, if im able to do that, would i be able to put Apps2SD on my phone even if i wont have a custom rom? Do i even need a custom rom?
Also, ive searched for relevant things, and all that came up was threads where people would reply "DO A SEARCH BEFORE POSTING! RARARA!" and not answer the question in any way shape or form, so please, skip that and help me.
I'm noobie enough as it is.
and also forced roaming...i tried out Cyanogens 2.2 ROM and it had forced roaming on it and that helped a LOT because my phone constantly switches between sprint and verizon in my house which would make it lag and drain battery faster, so my other question is is there some way to get forced roaming on my phone without a custom rom too?
sp basically im looking for if its possible to have Apps2SD, an OC 710 mhz kernal and forced roaming without puting any custom roms on?
Actually, all your questions are answered elsewhere if you would have just done a little bit of reading through the threads, or even just read the titles of some of the threads. Good job on trying the Search feature, just work a little harder at reading through the results next time. Also read the titles of threads. Being a newbie isn't an excuse to be lazy.
Here are your answers that I will kindly link for you below:
No, you can't have A2SD on regular 2.1 stock. The A2SD support code is something that has to be built into the boot image of a ROM. So yes, you will need to use a custom ROM that has A2SD support. That answer is in post #3 of the A2SD thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116
You can't overclock the stock 2.1 because the OC kernels are packaged with specific ramdisks for each custom ROM. So in order to overclock, you will have to use both a custom ROM and the one of specific OC kernels for that particular ROM. That answer was found in post #1 of the OC kernel thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705074
There is a method for Force Roam, but I don't think anyone has got it working on the Sprint CDMA Hero yet. Cyanogenmod does have a patch for it. Here are just a couple short threads detailing this, both of which I was easily able to find by searching "force roam":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739208
http://forum.xda-developers.com//showpost.php?p=5405666&postcount=18
http://forum.xda-developers.com//showthread.php?t=572041
In short -- no, you can't do anything you're asking about without a custom ROM.
Also, in addition to reading more before posting next time, please also note where the appropriate place to post is. Since this was a question, it should have gone in the "Q&A" forum. Thanks, welcome, and good luck.
Also, please considering reading the rules and posting in the correct sub-forum.

ugh, step 1) read stickies... this does not belong in development
step 2) read through the options you have (basically SRE, UTB, and SuperStock right now) and if you aren't going to take the time to read them, hold off on flashing until you know what you're doing

go for it. things are very solidly organized (there's even a specific section just for asking questions).
there are explanations of what this forum section is for (the development/hacking of android on the captivate and how to use the developments). If you want some advice on what's the general preference, look at general (where I believe this conversation is already happening with a topic titled "UTB vs SRE") or Q&A.
You should also read about the potential ROMs you're looking at (SRE, UTB, SuperStock) in their respective threads. There is no "This is the best ROM that everyone likes so use that" thread because the options are still relatively young and you have to decide which tool you want to use the most.
If you find reading the threads for what the ROM or tools do too difficult, then maybe modifying this device isn't for you right now. There's nothing wrong with asking questions (specifically in the threads of the various tools/ROMs) just place them in the right place. Your question has nothing to do with development, and that's all I'm asking
ok thank you on a side note is there any rom that has everything 100% working

Seriously the potential of anyone really answering your question on here is a joke. Don't get me wrong, but I've seen ppl post things 5 or six times (in Rom or kernel) threads and if they are lucky enough to get a answer they are told to search the forums and when they do they just run into other threads where people are told to guess what...search the forums. So its just a endless cycle until you just forget about it and move onto another ROM or kernel.

To the best of my knowledge, every tool out there has everything working 100%... AOSP isn't out yet (which already has said they're having trouble with bluetooth, camera, GPS, and data) and SuperStock has supposedly spotty wifi and data.
Your two major options right now are SRE and UTB, both of which are only modifications to the stock ROMs so everything is working. SRE provides more options and more customizations and UTB hasn't been updated in a while, though they're both valid options.
Personally, I'd suggest using SRE and going to that thread and reading up on your options

Yes and no.
The ROM on your phone is the official release - all others are dev builds. This includes the captivate ROMs and i9000 ROMs. Newer captivate builds fix a few things, but you lose tethering and maybe a few other things.
The i9000 builds all require the Captivate kernel, so some things don't work right.
Again, you need to read the threads on the different ROMs and decide for yourself.
I think i'm running jh3? I can't remember which. haha.
I lied, I guess i'm running jf6 still... Don't remember that happening.
Personally, I'm running jf6 (stock), rooted, metamorph minimalistic theme (tweaked a little to my personal liking), and adw (to customize even more). I've tried jm2, jm5 (both with samset on top), and jh2. Never tried froyo because I need my phone to work and it has too many known bugs.To me, a rooted, customized, stock ROM is the best because it give you less problems and sideloading through adb is easy. Also tried the lag fixes but other than the Quadrant scores, I couldn't tell too much of a real world difference so I took them off. I never had any GPS issues with jf6 so maybe I'm lucky.

Im sorry but I Didnt see a thread dedicated to this feature. I apologize in advance if this has been covered elsewhere.

All roms are flashed via CWM unless they say to do it differently in their thread. CM7 is about the only one that's not done this way.
Nobody gives install instructions anymore since it should be common knowledge if you did your research.
Also, this is NOT a development question. We have a Q&A section for these types of questions.
all custom roms come with CWM built into the kernel.
once you have a custom rom you DONT USE rom manager anymore.
also this is the DEVELOPMENT section.
DO NOT POST QUESTIONS HERE!!!
questions go in Q&A

you guys are misunderstanding his question, ROM manager is capable of sending out OTA's for individual ROM's if the ROM creator implements this feature. as far as I know, there are yet to be any ROM's that use this in the Captivate section, though please tell me if I'm wrong. CM7 will use this feature once it's capable of using ROM manager through a properly functioning param.ko
as for you two, no need to be so aggressive/rude. you didn't answer his question properly and were a bit extreme in your judgment toward him. but as for you OP, they are correct in that this isn't truly related to development and is more suited to "General" or "Q&A" from now on.
my point was nobody uses rom manager after stock anymore.
if someone cant properly post, they wont get a full complete answer

Hey TRusselo you have gone beyond making it known that I posted in the wrong section but no matter how I look at your answers you still come across as a big fat jerk. There isnt any need whatsoever for you to post that.. and then to come back and repeat yourself with another entry saying the SAME thing and MAINTAINING the attitude.. you got my attention.
Kaik541 did answer my question. I was wondering if any devs have used this feature in rom manager. For over the air updates.
As to the reason why I posted in the DEVs section was because i thought that it was a development question. ROMS updated over the air thru ROM MANAGER is implemented by DEVELOPERS. It stands to reason why i have not seen any notes in any DEVELOPERS release and that is apparently no DEVELOPERS are using this feature. I hope that I made it understood as to WHY I posted in the dev section. I am now more familiar with the rules so I do beg your pardon for posting in the wrong place.
Nightly builds that can be updated over the air seems like it would really be something that a DEV would utilize with all the tweeks contently done to these roms. I for one look forward to having such a useful tool.

Nightly builds aren't considered updates. They are made so the flash happy people have something else to play with and test for the devs. They aren't meant for everyone to use as DD's. Utilizing this feature for nightlie's would end up with TONS of questions from newbs that don't know how to fix what they just did.
This has been brought up a few times and to be honest with all the possible issues that could come across from OTA updates like flashing a bad file cause you lost connection for a split sec and didn't notice, I wouldn't use it. The first att OTA update proved this. Thousands of bricks, then it was released by Kris update. Alot less bricks.
So as i said i own one from tmo and i have a sim card from them and i want to make 3g work so i can surf the web... the sim works for a minute and the redirects to the first page that tmo adds when u open the browser.... i wanted to ask how do i make it work and what modems and kernels can help me... thanks in advance guys.. btw do you think my vibrant modems can work ?

Hmm... Your in the GTab section and posting in the questions forum, I dont really think you need to remind us.
Titles are supposed to be descriptive of topic
To answer your question, why dont you just flash a custom rom like Overcome, its much better then stock, less bugs, more stable etc. It doesn't come with modem but it mentions what modem to use I think, im too lazy to go look.

The Overcome rom comes with kernel and modem recommendation aswell as plenty of people who have probably asked same question you have in that topic.
Have you even read the topic or tried the rom?

Google "t-mobile redirect" to find what you need to do. Remember to back up the key folder and move a copy to your laptop for safekeeping. Don't worry -it's easy to do.
Pretty much what the title says. I know spacemoose1 is working hard on Honeycomb and I love what he has released so far. I have seen CM7 for GSM and was just curious if it was out for CDMA yet or if there are plans to do so. And if not, I would be willing to work with whoever to try to get it released.
Nope there is not yet only for gsm but that could probably he ported to cdma with some changes and a new kernal i should think. But not too sure.

I'd be willing to do any kind of testing to help a port for CM7 on the CDMA (sprint) Tab..
It does not exist.
There was one person interested in doing it, and he may be joinging the project. I think he also did a test build based on Froyo kernel. He is kind of quiet recently so probably he has other stuff on his mind.
But with new Gingerbread kernel I am much further ahead. To catch up the first thing is to port the Gingerbread kernel to CDMA and port modemctl and other things from CDMA Froyo kernel.
this sure does sound very interesting. i too wouldnt mind doing some test flashing for any developers. i flashed cm7 for a while on my Tbolt and i loved it. i had to revert cuz i didnt know about flashing gapps. anyways, id like to stay updated on this thread
I noticed Boushh's signature is

I just seen this, I have sent him a PM hopefully he will reply. I am still very interested in doing whatever it takes to get this thing going full time.
I did notice that we have a full AOSP CDMA ROM in the forums. I am currently looking for someone to provide me with temp download links that they have so I can host it on my site. Seems the site they where using has sucked up all its bandwidth.
