[Q] issue with SDCard - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello,
I'm currently facing an issue during the night my SDcard has disappeared from my sgs. i've pushed it out waited then push in she's not detected, when i plug the sdcard on my computer i can access all files on it. I've shutdown my sgs, booted it, then plugged the sdcard but still in error. I've plugged another sdcard and she is detected. the strange think is i can't do anything with the first one, in settings, sdcard she is not detected and i can't mount it or format it. does someone already faced this issue and found a way to solve it ?

Did you try formatting it on your desktop computer? (backup contents first ofcourse)

card reader
get a card reader, and format it from ur computer..that will resolve the problem..

already done with hptools without success

after flashing cm7, try pudh out/in sdcard still the same error, tryed to format sdcard as ext4 but same issue

I you want to use your sd you shouldnt be using cm7 (even nightly) they said they fixed this prob but they didnt.. It is a known problem on cyanogenmod.com and nobody knows the solution (yet). I had the same prob.. It seems that cm doesnt reconise high capacity cards..
Orrr..
You haven't taken a look at emmc ( the ext sd is not on external_sd as it was on Samsung firm and custom ROMs (based on Samsung?)

the problem have appeared on samfirware jw1, the card was working perfectly but suddently disappeared. For cm7 i've looked on emmc and same issue with mount cmd to check what is mounted i don't see it in cm7 or jw1. i've try the card on my old omnia and don't show it also apperently the card is dead for phone but not for pc

Updated to 11.04.24 and the problem is the same. I think the problem is from my sd card....
Help guys
Try inserting the sdcard directly in your computer (that are usb dongles that can do it for you if your computer do not have a sd card reader) and check the sd. I would recommend you to backup your sd and format it again. This is just not normal. Have you checked if your rom was properly flashed, without errors?

I have inserted the sd directly in my computer and is just ok. Work without any problem. I have formated sd a few times till now, but the result is the same...but only with CM ROM. If i will flash any other rom, there is no problem with my sd....i really don't get it what i did wrong...:-??

[Q] SOLVED: Connecting with USB shows only internal memorycard...

HI!
I have this problem that when I turn on the file sharing, the computer shows only internal memory card and not the external. Because the phone itself recognizes the external card I have tried to unmount and mount several times without any improvement. I am currently using the latest CM7 nightly, but the problem seemes to have started after I changed the card from 4gb to 16 gb. Any ideas?
EDIT: Erasing sd card from the phones menu helped to solve the problem.
Go Setting>Storage and remount your sd card and try???
I've done that several times....no help... android system accesses the card without problems...music, pics etc.
Did you physically remove your card and reinsert it, or just software remount?
Have you tried the card directly in your computer?
Have a look in windows device manager and see if it reports any problems. (right
click my computer and select manage)
I have tried it all and everything is ok with the sd card itself (I copied recent nightly from the computer on the sd card) also recovery recognizes is... there are also no problems in device manager...
Try to put on debugging mode. And try it with debugging mode on.
If the debugging mode is on try to take it off.
Regards Kali
I tried that also and nothing changed.... I have a feeling that it is somehow attached to me using mybackup pro... I restored application apk and data from another phone to this one and It seems that usually the application data should go to internal memory card. In this case it is on external card... so i believe that somehow the programs are still using the card when connected and do not allow phone to share it out... It's just a guess though...
EDIT: so I think the solution is to wipe everything and start all over again
So I fresh installed Rom and wiped everything and the problem still exist... still can see files with file managers in phone and when connected to computer, autorun shows only internal card...
Edit: I tried now 2gb sized sdcard and it works perfectly... the problem is with 16gb card.
Weird. Did you try another USB-port?
I tried different USB-s now and still same I found out that when I connect the phone, under my computer appears two removable disks.... if I turn on the usb connection, only one transforms to usable removable disk (internal) and the other one asks to insert the removable disk. I used the same sd card on my HTC desire with CM nightlies and it worked perfectly... could it be CM-s bug?
Sorry to ask (maby the obvious)
On Your phone.. using your filemanager (Root explorer astro or what-ever..)
Browse to sdcard
Do you have a folder called _externalSD?
On this phone, for some reason the external SD is not mounted under./ but as i said under ./sdcard/ (i.e its mounted under the internal SD card..)
Just a thought
Where the different cards are mounted doesn't make any difference. And as he said, it works with other cards (2GB and 4GB).
CyanogenMOD mounts internal card as /mnt/emmc, and external card as /mnt/sdcard by default.
When turning on USB storage, both cards should be unmounted and shared over USB.
Hi, I had the same problem with mine, and as you said in one of your previous posts, I had to do a format through the phone and as soon as I did that I was good to go.
I did use the same memory card in my old hero so this might have something to do with it... I'm not sure.
By formatting do you mean from the menu Erase SD card? On the desire I actually had the formatting request from the computer, but there was another problem (some of the rom's files were on the sdcards ext or something and I had no access to the card from the USB).... kind of a similar problem if I think back now but after changing to CM, the problem disappeared.
I forgot to mention I am running completely stock rom and unrooted (for the time being) and there is just an option under sd card & phone storage setting to format external sd card
After erasing the sd card from the phone, the computer recognized it i'm currently copying stuff back and i'm pretty sure it does not affect the recognition
I faced the same problem. I had Swapper2 on my NC, and after I uninstalled it (and cleared the data of Swapper2, just in case) everything went to normal back again.
^ a solution.

i tried that still wont work. could it be a rewrite demon on the sd. the cwm on the cm7-2.0.7 can read my sd i dont understand why the cwm in the ics kernel cant. ive put cm9 on 3 other x8s and ive never had this problem.
turn on your phone without sdcard first..
then use card reader to check your sdcard..check the format is FAT not NTFS
put those files in your sdcard..
after that turn off your phone, and insert your sdcard and turn it on again!

mount sd-card
ok, i think i figured this out, and i have had to register in order to share my findings. i was having the exact same problem, bootloader unlocked the kernel flashed and couldn't access the sdcard.
what i did...this worked for me with a 2gb sdcard
1. in the clockwork menu partitioned a 1024 partition and if i remember correctly the 256 swap. it takes about 1 minute dont worry if nothing seems to be happening.
2. i was then able to mount usb storage
3. passed the rom and gapps to sdcard through usb, and installed from sd no probs
4. after configuring minicm went back to try and partition the full size of the sd card but wasnt able to for some reason. maybe some light could be shed??
hope ive helped anyone and thaks to this thread.

LG Optimus Black can't recognize sdcard

Hi all,
This is my first time posting here and i'm a noob at this subjects ^^.
I flashed Cyanogenmod 7.2 at my device and everything worked well for a week or so (despite a heavy battery drain). One day out of nowhere, my sdcard couldn't be recognized anymore, camera said to insert a sdcard, galery said to mount one, file manager didn't find any files in the card, etc.
I thought the sdcard was corrupted so i tried to format it at recovery mode but when i try to format it says "error mounting sdcard". When i connect via USB my phone to the computer, again the sdcard is not recognized.
So.. 2 questions:
Has anyone ever had this problem?
Is my sdcard broken and i have to buy another?
Thanks in advance!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem solved:
The sd card was really broken, not even a reader could recognize him. I buyed a new one and now everything works fine.
Thanks all for the replies.
try to format your sd card, you can copy all your files
and format it then you copy all your files back
or maybe try another sd card
I have been had this problem, but official rom, and I format my sd card
then it's ok
Your sd card has been corrupted.
Try mounting USB storage in CWM then use chkdsk command to repair it.

[Q] Cannot find internal sdcard. :/

-SOLVED BY USING ODIN, AND FLASHING A STOCK ROM-
Samsung GT-S5830
So i installed some custom GB rom a long time ago on my friends phone.
Now he gave it back to me because nothing was working anymore.
The problem is when i try to open the file manager in the phone it says there is no internal sdcard, furthermore in the settings at partition settings it shows me:
/system 183mb/ 206mb
/data 65mb/178 mb
/cache 4mb/ 25mb
/sdcard (FAT) 0.00B / 0.00B
/ext-sdcard (EXT) unavailable (not 1 in the phone)
As you can see, the phone acts like it has no internal storage at all wich make it impossible to put anything on the phone.
I have tried using ODIN to flash a factory default rom, but my computer does not recoqnize the device when i put it in download mode. so that does not work.
I however installed the lastest TWRP, to try making my own partitions in there but that also did not work.
after that i downloaded cm11, put it on a external sd card and flashed the rom.
this all worked fine, but still NO INTERNAL SDCARD.
I am guessing that my friend has been screwing with some files or whatever.
Anyone got any tips?

Why your sdcard have FAT format instead of FAT32?
Try to backup it using a PC and then format it in FAT32, but forget ext partitions for the moment

Sir, it is impossible to format an INTERNAL sd card just simply by connecting it to a pc. You are talking about external sd cards here. (that's just part of the memory the phone internal has, there is no physical sd card here).
Anyway, i fixed the problem by flashing stock rom in odin wich has reformarted, and partitioned, it correctly.
