If there a way to disable the power button? It is completely in the wrong place and the only thing I use it for is for ending calls!
I don't think it's possible. Maybe with some custom rom (not rhapsody nor romow i think).

I saw this only once, as part of cyanogen rom but I was wondering if there is a standalone way of setting up a reboot button as part of the fly-out menu that comes up when i hold my power button?
I tried searching but all results seem to deal with general power button problems.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone? Just point me in the right direction or something.
i have not heard of a way to add this. but you can install quickboot from the market which is what i use so i never have to touch my power button in fear that it will fail on me over time. quickboot will reboot your phone, or take you right to recovery, etc.
I'm trying to remap my End Call button so I can use it to "Go Home", and End Calls. I don't want that button to put my phone to sleep, just the side power button. I want to also free up my IE button for use with anything else I might want it bound too.
In my ventures to do so, I've noticed that both the End Call button and Power button are mapped to the same keymap. I had thought I had changed the Power button but when I tried to end a call, the red button just puts the phone to sleep, which is exactly what I wanted my side power button to do while I'm on a call.
Is this a bug, or a "feature" in the kernel?
im pretty sure its part of the kernel, it has been there since the donut days (the old keymap was crazy volume up was the menu button, volume down was back)
it is partly due to the fact that the vogue has very few buttons, the kaiser was a device that just worked with our kernels at first.
i think even changing the buttons in atools will not change the kernel key stacks like your asking for
although l1q1d being the creator of Atools would know a lot better than I would
I've been looking at the querty.kl file, trying to understand the keymaps, and what they're associated too... Anyway of running a program that captures key presses and prints out the associated keymap for that key press?
Hey! Post from the grave!
Did you have any luck ??
I was also hoping someone knew how to go about this.
I know there are ways to remap keys, but I'm stuck in a browser, and all I can do it put my kaiser to sleep.
I even tried atools keyboard remapper to no avail (awesome tool btw).
It's no fun when you can't exit applications d:
I don't mean to double post, was just hoping someone could answer this.
Krazy-Killa did you have any luck?
I am tired of sending my N1 back to HTC to have the power button repaired.
At the moment it's very hard to press so I am using custom apps to power off the phone with a widget (or long press on Search) and power on with the Vol Up key.
That works fine but means I can't have a PIN lock on the phone and means I can't connect to my work's Exchange server.
Is there a custom ROM out there or something that requires ROOT access to the phone that allows you to power on the phone with a different key but retain PIN number access? Somebody mentioned on another thread that this was no possible with a stock phone and it had to be rooted but I can't find an application that has this functionality.
Thanks
You are referring to waking up the phone correct? cause powering on is a totally different thing and I don't think you can power on with any other buttons if the phone is completely off.
If you can flash CM7, you can have trackball wake than unlock via pin code or pattern.
Sorry I meant waking the phone up not power it on which can't be done with software of course.
When I get my phone repaired I will look in CM7. I would prefer something else than the trackball to wake the phone since it's easily pressed. I do like vol up that one tool provides.
Yes, as baseballfanz mentioned, CyanogenMod has the ability to wake up the phone with the trackball (I also believe they recently added in the ability to wake it by the volume buttons). And it is built into the ROM, so there aren't any additional apps necessary for that.
They also include a notification widget to turn off the screen (it shows up in the notification drop down along with other buttons - similar to the power control widget). I also got an app called Lock Screen which allows me to place an icon in my main dock (or anywhere else for that matter).
EDIT: I just checked, and I do have the volume wake option on my phone. I am running nightly #151. I am pretty sure it is not in the stable 7.0.3, but it might've been put in before 7.1 RC1. If not, it will definitely be in RC2.

Sounds good. What I want is to be able to unlock the phone with the power button (I press the trackball too easily) and when that button is pressed, I am presented with the standard unlock screen with PIN number entry.
At the moment I have a free app from the market that unlocks the phone with Vol Up but then it's completely unlocked with no PIN entry. Putting in a PIN number disables the app.
Hopefully with CM7 I can have both going?
Yes, the volume wake is just that. It wakes up the phone, but doesn't unlock it. And I thought the same thing with it being too easy to turn on, but I've only ran into the issue a few times when it has turned on in my pocket, but the screen has a relatively short timeout before it turns off (I think it is 5 seconds), so it hasn't ever really been an issue.
But either way, it does have the volume wake (and not volume unlock).
I have a broken powerbutton.
i have cm7 in my phone.
sorry i m bit newbie.
i remapped powerbutton fuctions to trackball with cm7 i lock my screen with Lock app.

Power button is POWER. Which means - it's physically connected to a controller that powers the phone up. Which means - there's no way to remap it, just as there's no way to remap your doorbell button to turn on your lights - you need to rewire it for that.
I recently upgraded from 4.2 to 4.3 (Slim Bean) and suddenly my Power button doesn't work well.
When I press it, it doesn't wake the screen (not all the time, sometimes it does.)
When I remove the battery and put it in, the phone turns on immediately without me pressing the power button.
Sometimes the shutdown menu comes up randomly.
In CWM, I can't select anything ( the power button was used to select things in the menu.
Is it related to the upgrade, or is it just a coincidence of broken parts?
Any advice/workarounds?
Thanks!
It is a coincidence. Turn off the phone and try to turn it back on. Do you have the same issue? Note that Slim is not even loaded yet. Try to clean the button, search how, many threads on this subject here. Workaround is called Volume Rocker Wake, it's in ROM settings. Different place on different ROMs, but almost all custom ROMs have it. Good luck!
