.901 update help new to bionic - Motorola Droid Bionic

so i have been hearing some great things on the bionic data fixes with the .901 update i have read the original op but honestly i am a bit confused hoping someone can help me out here... someone says it does not void warrenty by going to that one how is that possible if root is required to do this??? so how would i go about getting this updated .. i previously came from a charge and before that a epic so odin was my best friend and everything was very simple as far as rooting flashing roms and if i messed it up odin was there to help me out so hoping someone will help me in the right directinon and i am up to date on the most recent update the "data fix" if that is what you want to call it!!!

.901 was pushed as an OTA to a limited number of people. Someone copied it and uploaded it to the board. Meaning Big Red and Moto have to support it since it was pushed out, even though it was an accident. I'm not sure if you have to be rooted to sideload it or not. I was already rooted. Turned my phone into everything it was originally supposed to be. No data drops, and a constant 4G signal for me. It almost doubled my battery since it doesn't waste power searching for 4G.

OK cool I wish I could find a way to get it without root don't want to root yet

you do not need to be rooted to install it, you can install it from the factory recovery and run stock .901 unrooted.

Problems rooting

Sorry another noob just joined the forum.
I have been researching periodically for about a month now and jumped in last week and attempted to root my phone. I believe that I rooted it after upgrading to 2.27.651.5. I could not successfully flash the recovery.img.
The program that pops up on the phone gave me an error message. Should I root the phone again from the beginning?
After this is successful all I have to do is load a ROM onto the phone and I will be set am I right? As of right now my rooted? phone is having problems connecting to the mobile network and I can only connect to the WiFi networks to get internet.
Sorry for being such a noob. I have tried searching and researching but the terms used are unintentionally geared towards people who know about this stuff unlike me.
Thanks for any help.
Just want to say you have an awesome username lol. Hopefully someone can help you out
If your phone was successfully rooted then yes all you would have to do is load a ROM and you'd be all set but it seems like your phone didn't get rooted. When you root a phone correctly it won't interfere with anything already on the phone, it will just add functionality. When I rooted my hero I had to drop from the .6 build to the .5 and after I rooted it my gps and such didn't work so it might have been the build I downloaded onto the phone or the rooting process I used was wrong. I would try to wait until a dev puts together a guide on how to root the .6 build(the latest Android 2.1 build) and then root it. I have some experience with rooting so ill keep looking for a .5 build that works properly after being rooted and if I find one ill let you know what to do and all that fun stuff. And you do have a pretty awesome user name if you have any other questions email me at [email protected]

[Q] noob root questions...

I was hoping someone could help out, i'm a noob for sure, but i do have a LOT of linux kernel programming experience, and have been an SA for over 16 years...
anyhow, here is my issue:
I got my droid bionic on presale a few days before it came out. I rooted using a manual method found here on the forums back in beginning october, and did the root 4ever thing...After rooting, I installed liberty rom v2.0 and have been on that with no updates/mods/changes since that day in october.
MY bionic is currently on 5.5.886. I have not seen any posts about getting it to .893, or anything later for that matter. I would really like to get back into flashing new roms, testing ICS and making this thing mine again, but it has all failed...
Here is what i have tried:
went back into CWM, restored back to original post-rooted stock rom, tried to run system update=failed, all of the instructions i have found on here refer to 893 and above, and have instructions for that, but none that i could find referred to what to do if you were still on a version prior to that...
Can anyone please assist me with getting to .902/.901 so I can enjoy some ICS goodness? or at least be back on a path of better performance/more updated os?
I am willing to paypal some beer money to anyone willing to help, thanks in advance!!
I can help you man.
But I don't take donations.
You have gtalk? PM me your gtalk name.
Noob
I am also having issues. My bionic is 5.5.886. I rooted shortly after getting it, then got over eager and deleted all of the bloatware (backed-up some with Ti but Ti is hanging trying to restore). Now, I can't update.
Is it as simple as me just flashing the current version rom?

You will have to flash the 902 fxz with RSDlite 5.6

Bionic ICS Update Newb Installer

Bionic
Verizon network
System Info: 6.7.2231.xt875
Android version: 4.0.4
Build Number: 6.7.2_223
So I got fed up with the phone as it was and updated it to the info above. I have never done this before and just did it following the info instructions on droidhive. Didnt do anything more than back up contacts and downloaded the ICS leak and installed it with out bootstrap this or bootloader that or anything. Probably did more than I should have as I dont undertand anything about rooting or ROMS or anything else.
Now my understanding from reading here is when and if Verizon does a OTA upgrade I will not either 1) recieve notification nor 2) be able to download it is that correct? I also cannot go back to my old build since I didnt , insert magic special thing I should have downloaded or installed prior to me updating, is that correct also? Can I do further upgrades that I have been reading about on this forum as written and in theory if I follow the instructions should be ok? or do I need to go back to the old build (if possible) then work my way back up?
I probably should have left well enough alone but I was getting so pissed with my phone and I tell you since I upgraded to that leak it runs very nice with a few hiccups when I try and run different apps. Figure if I screw it up too bad I can always get the Samsung Siii...and not mess with it...thanks for entertaining this newb!!
Take a look at this thread. It shows how to get back to .905, or to go to newer versions without losing your data. As of right now, I suggest going with the .232 leak, which is the latest you can go to while still being able to return your phone to gingerbread.

I agree.. if you are running 223 right now.. i would stick with it till the ota. You might not recieve notification but either way, you will be able to dl the image and load it the same was as you did with 223. seeing as how it will be signed it shouldn't be a problem. I have been running 223 for a few days now and overall i'm very happy with it. i just wish that i could turn the 4g off sometimes because it's a beast on the battery in my area..
I'm Loving the .223 update. It has made my Bionic into the phone Verizon should have provided me from day one!!! It isn't perfect, but it is darn good, miles, yards, acres, even years ahead of Gingerbread.

Phiber187.. Get "Phone info" app from the Android market (Sorry Google Play) It will allow you to turn 4g on and off.

Guys still running above on the phone but have read of some upgrade/ROMs that I'd like to do, but it says I need to be rooted and I never rooted even when I did the upgrade shown above. Everything Im reading on how to root is assuming Im on the stock GB does it matter that Im not on GB and I still can do it on ICS the same way? Please advise on steps to root it now so I can continue upgrading and installing ROMS...thanks!

Older ROM.. Could use assistance getting current!

Hello,
I rooted/flashed my bionic a long time ago, and haven't fiddled with it since..I'm currently using:
ROM - KIN3TX V1.0
Kernel - 2.6.35.7-g686e6
Baseband - CDMA_N_03.1C.57R ltedc_u_05.15.01
System Version 5.8.894.XT875.Verizon.en.US
Version 2.3.4
Could somebody please lend a hand as to what I need to do to move forward with a current rom, or even properly flash back to stock? I'm asking because my 4G stopped working a while ago.. it was fine one day, then stopped. I haven't had time to mess with it, but i've changed sim cards (different phone number) and that didn't resolve the issue either..).. if anybody would be able to lend a hand getting back on the right path, or at least get my 4G working.. it'd be greatly appreciated!!
thanks,
Dennis
Curious about this one myself. A VZ tech rep told me tonight that ICS was officially released for the Bionic and that I should really check for an updated ROM.
You should be able to use the fxz file and get back to stock. There is one for the official .246 ics update.
You shouldn't need to do anything else
Note: this wipes all user data and in rare cases the entire sd card. So back up your stuff. There are a few guides in the Android development section of our forums. (If they have not updated their old .905 gb guide, do everything in their guide except use the [fxz].246 ics file {also in the android development forums})

Thank you. I actually tracked down some info and ended up flashing the FXZ 904 update, so I guess that puts me a bit behind.. I'll look up the 294 today.. thanks again!

Planning to get back on OTA

So its been awhile since I flashed a ROM to my BIONIC. That was back before ICS was even released for the BIONIC. So I started looking at updating to one of the more stable ROMS that has way better performance that this stock one. Currently I have 6.7.232 on my phone and I would like advice on which ROMs are best for this device. I have looked into some such as Gameblur, Raging Bionic, and Icarus HD. Thus far I havent really decided on one but I have noticed that some of them are on Jelly Bean. I am not sure if I have to return to the OTA path to update to any of these. I also have Safestrap 3.11 installed. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks.
Any help out there?? Thanks.

Well Gameblur and Raging Bionic both require one to be on the 98.72.22 Moto 4.1.2 Jellybean update. Incarus HD however is ICS base and can be flashed with your current setup.
If you are destine to update your stock side I would first prep what you currently have on there right now. See this HERE for getting stuff ready.
I would backup anything on the internal storage before hand and make sure that you have a full battery.
You will find the proper FXZ files HERE. If you are on 6.7.2-223 update then use the one for 4.0.4. It would be easier to root again through the update process. After you have completed the restore processes and root through the HOB. Make sure you have VooDoo Root Keeper installed on your phone to back up Root and to disable Root. Then with a good Data connection you are going to take the update Via OTA. Once the update is complete and you are fully booted up. Use VooDoo to restore your Root and test using root explore or NoFrills CPU.

The link provided there has a post from the OP that states House of Bionic is discontinued and to use House of Moto. Should I do that?
Secondly I havent for sure decided which Rom I will be moving to. I feel that the interface I have been using is kinda laggy. I installed Next launcher to see if that made a difference and it was more responsive but still my system memory usage skyrockets after a couple hours and sometimes the only way to resolve it is to restart the device. Any recommendations as to which Rom I should move to?

You can try using the House of Moto stuff also depending on what you feel more comfortable on using. The HOM was desighned to have one interface for all Moto devices instead of each having its own individual setup. I would still use HOB for your purpose only because I don't know if he added in the script to root the device, which was made for ICS versions not JB hence the discontinued portion of it.

I have tested and played around with a lot of different ROMs and tweaks to find the one that I am ultimately satisfied with. Flying Jelly, well the name speaks for itself, Rage, and GameBlur (which I had minor help in) all work fine for there purpose.. One must pick and choose which one suits there purpose. So my suggestion would be to install SafeStrap 3.60, which is the latest updated one, and create a few slots and run each the same as you would Stock or any other firmware to measure which one suits your needs.....
In a previous post you wrote "If you are on 6.7.2-223 update then use the one for 4.0.4.". I went to the FXZ site and it shows that the 4.04 rom has version 6.7.223 on it already. I already have root. Why would I need to install the same version again and reinstall root to get on the OTA. I just want to make sure I understand this to avoid making mistakes. Thanks.
Then if you feel confedent that all will go well then just install Voodoo to backup and disable root. Take the OTA update and see if it will install. The most that will happen is that if it detects that something is missing from the current firmware you have the installation process will fail and reboot back into what you currently have. At that point you will have to FXZ your stock back to the way it was installed originally, root, then backup root and disable, then take the OTA. ICS is way easier to root then JB. I have kept Root before via OTA when I got it, so I know it Voodoo will keep the backup and install it..

I think I miscommunicated what my question was. The instructions say to install the FXZ for the 4.0.4 that has the same version of Android OS that is currently installed. the further instructions say to install the OTA from verizon but everytime I check for an update nothing shows up on my phone. Where else can I get the OTA?
In addition I want to know what I should do about safestrap. Should I remove it before installing the OTA or is it fine to leave as is when I go to install the OTA?
OK... If you cannot even get Big Red to send you the update. You can fxz the update, but at that point you will loose root, but have the option to keep your current data. Go see House of Moto or House of Bionic over at droidrazr.com
As far as Safestrap I would just uninstall recovery through the app the reboot so it clears out before the fxz process.

fyi I think he took House of Bionic down, didn't see a link. I can however attest that House of Moto worked perfectly fine. Flashed fresh .232 and VZW sent me the OTA (I tried voodoo rootkeeper before updating). I did lose root despite following all of the steps. To get it back your best bet is to boot up a live Ubuntu disc. I tried the VM that someone compiled but it kept failing.
PS: nobe1976, how the hell did you fit 3 ROMS on your phone? I can only fit one ROM (besides obviously stock). Wish we could install ROMs through safestrap to SD (internal or external).

However Samuri didn't remove the HOB site, He just doesn't maintain it as much since HOM. Here is the LINK to that f needed.
