Is there a trick to getting the Vivid's "Connected Media" app to work with your devices? I couldn't get my PS3 or my Apple TV to show up on the list of devices and I never got it to work with either of them. I downloaded iMediaShare and it works beautifully with both.
Am I using the Vivid's native app wrong? I select a video and then it shows a list of devices I can play it on and only the Vivid shows up. I don't see any other options at that point. I never got around to trying it with my computer, but it shouldn't be this hard to connect it to my PS3. I used to connect my GS2 with my PS3 with no issue at all using the native app.
I also tried the connected media app wth no luck..... So I downloaded a free app called "SKIFTA" from the Market. Works flawlessly. Give it a try!

iMedia share is doing the trick, but I'll check out Skifta. I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong, or if the native app just doesn't really work.

Droid Life has posted the .apk for the upcoming Honeycomb (Android 3.0) Music player. I have tested it on the G-Tablet (running TNT Lite 3.12) and on my Droid 2 and it works great. Please keep in mind that not all features are working yet...it is still a work in progress.

Yeah, I had problems downloading from my Droid 2 as well... I had to connect to the PC as Mass Storage and download it that way instead.

I bet the streamed music has to do with Googles purchase of simplified media. I used it back in my iPhone days and it allowed me to stream my whole iTunes library to other computes or my phone.
Thanks for sharing.
Have you guys looked at Audiogalaxy? There was a post today about it. You download a free app from the market, setup a little tiny program on your pc. Tell the pc program where your music is and stream away. I am using it and it works great... I just used my Facebook login with it and it worked..

With this audiogalaxy is it possible to have music on my droid and send it to the gtab? and like remote control the music PLAYING on the gtab from the droid? cant seem to get any program to work the way i need/want it to. tried twonky but it wont recognize the gtab as a player when using the droid app on the droid. main goal is to be able to pretty much control music on the gtab while its plugged into speakers from across the room or anywhere in the house.
I saw mention of a few people getting the Netflix app from the revolution system dump working on the fascinate. Did any of you have any luck? If so, what ROM are you using? I had no luck on AOSP.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Yes I had great luck and it even installed perfectly on the fascinate. Only thing it doesn't do is stream video. Apparently it doesn't on any phone as of yet but you can at the moment check your instant and dvd selections perfectly.
I've got it installed and working fine. Streaming does get an error but I saw it may have something to do with current drm setup.

Nothing is corrupt. It's just not fully finished yet and wasn't supposed to be leaked.
Some devs in the hacking forum seem to have tracked to a drm issue. I know in some of the later superclean roms there was an issue with battery drain from the drm service always running so Adrynalyne dropped it from the framework but created a patch to put it back if there was any issue. I'm on sc2.9v & I've got the netflix app installed & logged in to my acct. but can't connect to stream. Anyone not on superclean try the app with any success?
Ran the Netflix app under 2.9 and 2.9.1 successfully but with no video stream. All we can do for now is check DVD and instant queues.
It requires hardware DRM, and checks the cpu. No bueno.

Too bad. Thanks for looking into it.
Doesnt netflix instant require windows silverlight...

I'm guessing beyond the DRM issue, Netflix simply hasn't activated the service on their servers yet for this app. So even right now on the appropriate hardware, it still wouldn't work.
Installed it on mine with rooted, personally cleaned out, stock rom - same result. Hoping that devs can get ahold of this and hack it up. Has anyone tried the playon sevice that is supposed to make hulu and netflix work?
I've tried the playon mobile but it definitely needs an upgrade do to it not having a wide range for working with routers. Believe me if anyone knows anything about networking it's me and mine is setup perfectly to run playon mobile. It has never connected for me at all. Which is a bummer because playon is on all my consoles in the house and it works great! I would try it out for sure because it is actually working for others on there router setups with playon mobile. I'm really looking forward to this netflix app though. I've been using it now for a couple of days and it works amazing except of course the "no streaming" not working right now. I've unpacked the netflix.apk and have looked at the coding and there's nothing we can do to make it work the way it should. In a sense netflix needs to click the "go" button if you will on there end to make it finally work.
I remember hearing that some new Android phones that will use the new (Qualcomm?) dual core chip will have something built in that will allow Netflix DRM to function and those that don't have it won't get that capability. I think it was from This Week in Google.
I use PlayOn for netflix.
I like it because it works but its a little slow.
Video Quality: 8
but being able to get netflix now:10

Does this convert the videos to flash I'm confused? I too witness silver light loading screens every time I'm watching nfx. How might this be possible
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I assume you have PlayOn installed on both you phone and PC, right?
I am pretty sure it is converting on the fly to flv or something.
When I select netflix and choose a movie I get a screen that says "buffering" for about 10 sec and then the movie plays just fine.
sound is a 9/10 and video 8/10
hope you get it working, if you like I can post a vid of it working
Can't wait to get a full netflix ported to this phone. Is this a codec issue?
Hi, One reason i like using Windows Mobile phones is that it can access my folders shared on my network, and as such, I can access pictures and my video files or divx videos to play remotely.
Is there a way on my streak to do the same thing? Now that I have my dock. I would love a way to access my movies and so and play them remotely. Anyone have a idea on how android devices could do this? Thanks.
try this

Thanks. The app in question to use now is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756158 The CIFS Manager. This should hopefully do the trick. =D Cause who wants to pay for a "server app" on your PC.. when youd think it can just read it Natively. Thats why I have a windows ppc. Tho the app I got there works.. but it sucks cause none of the menu UI comes up right... tho still managed it.
lou0611 I dont wanna stream from a server or convert the files, I could do that but I rather just open my network folders, pick my file and play
It appears as though there is an app out now to pair PS3 game controllers with Android devices via Bluetooth. Can someone download Sixaxis from the market and confirm functionality? According to the free device checker, our Xooms are compatible with this app.
Edit: Forgot to mention this requires root.

I tried it and it works great with the Xoom. I highly recommend it for the gamers. The perfect solution for playing with emulators.
Ive downloaded and paired Via Bluetooth. The only Problem im having with it is that cant configure the controller (well you can configure it but not for certain games) to play other games other then Roms it would be better if lets say there was a way to configure NOVA 2 That would be an epic way to play it
Good app
Great solution to the PS3 controller pairing issue.
I've messed around with this app a fair amount today on my Atrix, and loaded it on my Xoom just to see if I could copy the apk and run it fine on another device. Xoom isn't rooted so I can't tell you how it works on that device. However I will say that the controller configuration is extensive for which button does what. It seems to have just about any of the buttons you could expect to input from a D1 and a Play along with quite a few more to boot.
Since you're essentially mapping system inputs in place of button presses, it also solves the issue of multiple controllers on one device. I had previously hooked up a USB hub to the Xoom via OTG cable and was disappointed to find that inputs from two PS3 controllers registered exactly the same. Instead of input1_down and input2_down .. it was simply seeing keypad_down from both controllers, which made multiplayer impossible unless someone was willing to use a keyboard. (Perhaps a wiimote would have sufficed, but I couldn't tell you. I know a USB 360 controller registered as exactly the same inputs as the PS3 controller did.)
Using this app one controller can be inputting keypad_down, etc.. and another can be configured to use aswd and a few others, and yet another somewhere else on a keyboard's letters and symbols (or camera, volume, etc. buttons). It elegantly solves the multiplayer issue, up to 4 controllers.
It's $1.62 when I nabbed it, absolutely worth the cost and finally a pressing reason to root.
As far as games compatible with it, they would have to accept up,down, left, right, etc.. natively. It appears you can use the exact commands available to the Play, so you should see more widespread support for controllers in future games, and you should pester the devs of current games that don't support it to get with the program and add support for the Play, since that will kill two birds with one stone.
Thanks guys! Guess I will have to pick up a PS3 controller today

I'm looking for a video player/server app for WP8 that will allow me to play locally stored files (MP4) from my phone (an HTC 8X) onto a DLNA-capable television. So far I've not found anything that seems to be able to do this, although I thought it would be quite simple (my Nexus 7 has at least half a dozen players that can do it).
Closest I've found was Nokia Play To (set up after spoofing the store into thinking my 8X was a Nokia 925). That app runs OK, but fails to find any DLNA devices, even when connected directly to their hotspot. Also found MyMediaHub, which works fine as a DLNA controller (playing to the renderer from an external DLNA server) but can't play local files. Moliplayer can act as a local renderer (to play files from an external server on the phone via DLNA), but what I want is kinda the other way around, to play from the phone rather than to it.
Are there any players out there which can fulfil this role which will work with the 8X, or am I limited to filling my tablet up with films rather than using my phone for the job (which I'd prefer as they are on there anyway for watching whilst travelling).
The WP8.1 update is supposed to have this ability baked into the OS. Just hold out a few more days, ok a week..

It's a corporate phone, so I may have to wait slightly longer than that, knowing our IT crowd. But it's good news anyway, thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep a check on what does get released with the update, with fingers crossed
There's also Share Box from Samsung (DLNA client that can stream images/videos/music over WiFi). May require proxy trick. Not tried on a non-Samsung phone.

This one also doesn't work on HTC (I've already tried, app failed with "Media service not started" message). Looks like you're out of luck (say "thanks" to HTC for the "great support" and never buy HTC's junkphones again )
P.S. Theoretically, there is no "rocket science" in DLNA server functionality; the only showstopper I see now is the API limitations to access local videos. Hope, with WP8.1 update, some third-party DLNA servers will hit the store...

The OP needs a DLNA server, not a player (there are few DLNA players available at the store).

Not for Windows Phone 8, that is only for WP7.X: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/connected-media/d154a04b-d3ad-47dd-bfc9-a1022e409af6

As I mentioned in my first post - I tried that via a store-spoof to make it think my 8X was a Nokia 925 and serve me Nokia apps for install. The app installs and runs, but it can't find the DLNA renderer, even when connected directly to it. The webpage that details the spoof (using Fiddler2 on a PC as a proxy man-in-the-middle for the set-up process) also reported the same, that Play To installs and runs but can't detect DLNA devices.
As noted, I can find options for DLNA controllers (e.g. MyMediaHub) and DLNA players (e.g. Moliplayer), but what I'm not finding for WP8.0 is a DLNA server app that can see locally stored files. With luck 8.1 could fix this by baking it into the OS, so I will wait patiently until it filters down through our IT boys and their testing.
