A great upload site for our developers! - HD7 General

I tripped across a great upload site for all our developers, it's MADE to upload large files at a time, and i fell across it while looking for a file for some software . Anywho, so far it's been very reliable to me and i've managed to upload tons of (legal) files via in the site. Let me know how everyone likes it!
https://wetransfer.com/

It's flash player based.!!
I believe that only people using Android or desktops can use it.

aww okay, i thought that people with winmo7 OS's have to flash the ROMs via desktop/pc?

Wizard Roms Are Still Available

Some ROMS that were on the FTP before are available on BitTorrent, Azureus, eDonkey or any other P2P Torrent client.
A search for the original posted name of the file in a Torrent tracking site will probably do in most cases.
Beneath you will find a list of ROMs that have been found available through searching on PirateBay:

Remember you help the community by leaving the files in your shared folders as long as possible.
Rom distribution is decentralize from XDA.
XDA Cannot and will not host Material on it's servers that is not allowed.
Which basicly means that the people that own or pay for the rights of use to the Domain, webserver and FTP server, thus supplying us the users with these forums, have nothing to do with the distribution of illegal roms.
I will take a looksee, to see if i find other Roms. Any help in this is apreciated off course.
And i will update the list accordingly.
What do you people think of updating the Wiki to explain what the names of these ROMs represent?
Thats good Noonski that you are taking initiative...Dunno if this will be acceptable though or whether M$ will force xda not to even talk about torrents having ROMs (seems unlikely).Anyways, if this is allowed, I'm willing to pitch in to reseed and also seed the ones I already have with me.
But one thing, though choosing one particular site like demonoid might be a good idea in the sense of having a central repository of all ROM torrents but it has its drawback in not giving access to everyone since its a private tracker. Moreover, since you propose the next release of a rom to be closed, this raises 2 questions:
1. Ppl who are not demonoid subscribers can't get em. Is there going to be any invite system in place for demonoid?
2. even with the invite system how will one determine who gets the invite and who doesnt?
I am happy with my ROM collection and honestly this doesnt impact me at all. If I want a WM6 device, i will just buy it.
demonoid is good, i second that, and as for invites, i think i can give out some, we need to start by making a list, lets say by the number of posts, lol i will wont be getting invites since i have been more of a reader than a replier. anyways, but we need to think outside the box, we cant just cave in.
lets see,
our options are:
1. private ftp, maybe ce4arab.com will allow us to use thiers
2. torrents
3. irc
4. newsgroups, hate them since never got how to use them
5. files upload websites
6. gmail, or yahoo spaces
any more?
it has to be done, we need to do this, we will do it.
cheers
I think torrents are a great way to go. I prefer Pirate Bay since registration is closed at Demonoid it is harder to get many new users using for these purposes. If there are existing torrents pm me and I will be happy to seed as well.

I would also be in favor of setting up a private FTP for those who have something to contribute. If it is not in the public eye then we shouldn't have a problem right. I have been using these ROMS for a while now and would love to help out. I have plenty of hard drive space for it, and a Dual Processor server on my T1.
Send me email if you wanna get something done. Perhaps we need a mini private forum outside of the public eye also, just a thought.
cease-and-desist letter from Microsoft....

Think you better upload them to newsgroups, like a.b.warez.pocketpc or something.....

I just feeling around a bit. Wading the water.
1. Demonoid has an invite system in place allready.
I have just posted the torrents also on a PirateBay tracker.
And BTW the torrent on demonoid should be open to everyone unless i F^cked up again
2. You are right about deciding who's in or out.
I myself would only invite if i knew that either the user nows what he wants. I could see some of his posts for instance.
It's why having a discussion is a good thing. What do people think is smart. What do the Cooks want.
Do they want the roms to be totally available for everyone including users that should not be playing around with Roms but do add to the attention XDA gets?
As for me i don't care where i post the Roms. It's just that for most of my other torrents i'm a Demonoid user. I'll post them anywhere and seed them anyhow. As long as i don't get them from XDA directly it's none of their biz is it?

The three faria roms are available on PirateBay all people now need to do to help out is keep the seeds alive.
Maybe i should reconsider changing my nick there.
if anyone can please seed the PDAviet4 installer that would be GREAT!!! I have been wanting to try it out for a long time now, and i've searched every torrent site i know of and nothing comes up. I myself am helping out with the faria roms. If anyone can please message me with a means of a way to get it, that would be GREAT!
Thank you.
I'd definitely like to see postings of new releases to newsgroups as this is the fastest way to obtain anything that's recent.
I myself have a few roms to share :
buttons 1.05
molski (several)
faria V2 8mb
pdaviet3 / 4
orwells
underground
tmobile 2.26
maybe others...
but I dunno how to post to newsgroups or else
If s/o can explain, i'll be glad to help there

Are working fine on the Bay.
It's also funny to see how the 8Mb faria version is one of the favourites.
Running it myself and loving it.
Also funny to see how these Roms get seeded better than Movies.
(in other words to stay seeded even without leeches, which means a better availability, Yes it my make your seed list bigger, but some torrent clients have filters)
If only we can figure a workaround to MS request for new roms. As it clear that any new release has to be provided by a Cook. And that means a Cook can always be traced to it's afiliation and responsibility of getting the Roms out there. On th other hand A Cook is not XDA-Devs. They just use the Forums to discuss their builds! I asume that since this post (up until now) has not been blocked by an Admin. It means they do not condone this endavour. But still some input of what would be wise to post and what not. Like setting up some forum rules like not anwsering questions to users about where to find the roms. Because let's face it anyone that does not know how to find downloadable content should not be messing with their phoner?
So i'm still waiting for the big shots really. In the mean time i'll just continue my epic search for The Lost Roms!
I have a htc wizard (T-mobile MDA) and I'm not sure which rom to use in the following. What is the difference between them?

Available ROMs at wiki page

Dearest Trinity users,
I've taken the liberty of uploading all the current ROMs onto RapidShare for our downloading pleasure. I've also updated the wiki with links to all the new locations so that when the files are removed from the XDA hosted FTP we'll still have a place to get a hold of the files. I believe this will be the easiest, quickest method as opposed to using Torrents. That way we don't need any extra software to download the files and no seeders will be needed, either. If the links to these files will ever be required to be removed from the wiki along with the FTP files, I still have the full list of download locations so we can move the info onto any page we would need in the future.
Thanks

Seems like a good idea
Good idea. And actually a great counterblow against the Microsoft's hostile plans to limit the availability of ROMs.
Maybe they will next to try close whole internet because there _MAY_BE_ some software available that hurts Microsoft's business..

But that would be perfectly reasonable. The thing is that no-one is hurting Microsoft's business making those ROMs available. Quite the opposite: this site and those unofficial ROMs have contributed to the success of Windows Mobile.
But to be honest in this case I think that Microsoft is acting to please the companies that license Windows Mobile (i.e. the network operators) more than themselves. The network operators don't like sites where you can learn how to unlock phones and replace their branded software and it's easy to understand why.
Great!!

Very well thought out and well spoken.
But no worries, just means we have a couple more hoops to jump through.
Why not share them in a filesharing network (emule, torrent, etc)?
Then, it would be a real "community project" and it would be not so easy to bring them down...
All files should contain "xda-dev" so they could be easy to find.
Just my 2 cents

Yep that's true also. I'm open for plenty of other options besides RapidShare. I'm thinking of RapidShare as more of a temporary solution while XDA is forced to start deleting all the ROMs from their FTP server.

Mlign put one up today youtube.com/mlign
He doesn't want to know how to sign files and setup the SDK, he wants somebody to hold his hand and teach him the inner workings of ROM cooking and development.
As a side note, that was the worst video tutorial I have ever seen. The guy's ROMs might be good, but the guy seems like a complete tool. Not to mention, there is a right clicking signing tool available in the dream theme forum. I don't know why he was using such a complicated signing tool.

i dont know but, i still want to know. how to cook a god dam rom
you don't learn the cooking, the cooking learns you!
heh, but really, the reason there's no "definitive cooking guide" is because there's no such thing. Usually there's two approaches to creating roms: Porting and compiling from source. Porting is easy because it involves just knowing which files are necessary for the phone to run (kernel and it's modules, using/modifying/building a correct ramdisk, and pulling the necessary hardware/proprietary files to make the rom be able to communicate with the hardware). For those, a basic knowledge of file systems and using a few tools; your file archivers (7z, file roller, winrar, etc), porting tools (unyaffs, extract-kernel.pl, extract-ramdisk.pl, mkbootimg, mkbootfs) and distribution tools (testsing.jar, a working knowledge of update-script layouts) and you should be porting quickly, it's just mix and match to make your frankenbuild.
Building from source is not hard, or mystical, or anything of the sort. it requires learning how to use git/repo and working with makefiles.
If you want to make a truly custom build from source that works with google apps and has your own customizations, then you do need to learn a slight of java, c, c++, and most importantly, android app development.
You can't just say there's a guide. I guess the easiest one could do is put up a video of how to make a build from source, if I have time/drive I could do one, whole process takes about 2-3 hours (if you've never built before but have a build environment already setup), but I guess I could skim it down to a few minutes, since a lot of the time spent is waiting for compilation.
I too have been looking how to cook my own rom, so I could do my own tinkering so I could flash right away and use my own to my personal liking. If anyone could post a video or tutorial on how to do so I would be so grateful. I learn pretty fast just need a little help here and there.

I honestly hate when people do that ****...
The guy has 70+ posts....has been a member since 2007 you really think that he didnt search here and on google..
Considering I have been searching both places myself for over a month and all I come up with is premade custom roms... No reading on how to make a custom rom myself... What really gets me is that I read and I seem to be more confused..
With android running RUU's and signed.nbh's. Why do we have to update via a zip file... In the article that explains how to make a custom rom I found just today he says that RUU's dont allow any customization. Which is funny to me because Ive been cooking WM roms for years now which cooks the rom then signs and packs the nbh file into the RUU. I honestly have been looking for a kitchen but I dont think one exists as of yet...
Im not ready to load up YDL on my ps3 to figure out how to trim down an android rom.
Hopefully there will be a kitchen released on the same lines as say Ervius's Visual Kitchen. Just takes time. Took years for some real brains most being from this site and ppcgeeks to compile all the tools to make a rom like that.
Now that is helpful, posting up some bs like that is just rude and you deserved the reply. This site is to help not making it more difficult for people to learn how to do stuff. Just remember the short 11 months back when you joined did you know everything. Have you made any real attempt to contribute to this site or are all your posts from that sort of thing giving ****ty responses to serious questions.

Just as jubeh has said, there isn't really a definitive way to cook roms. You either no, or you don't. I would first try to grab the stuff from aosp, and just piece together what comes after that
There isn't a kitchen for the dream/magic as far as I know, but the folks over at MoDaCo have kitchen's for other android phones (such as the Hero and Nexus).

It is really not that hard to search. You mentioned him having 70+ posts... It makes him look more idiotic for not being able to find something, rather than making a new thread here.
I took 1 minute to find this post:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/wiki/Building
Ofcourse from Google...
And to answer your question (as JA said earlier) there isn't a definitive way of cooking the rom. You either know it or you don't.
If you don't have the time to learn it, was it necessary to "rant" about how much you know and why people should just be frank about the answers on forums?
But you see what I'm talking about. YOU found another link for "cooking ROMs." If the OP actually dedicated some time, instead of thinking that he'll easily learn the language and become the next Cyanogen, he'll get some where. Developing ROMs is not an easy task, ask any of the devs, especially when you start out.
If you do not have the patience to learn and discover, you will get no where (I'm not referring directly to you). And honestly, setting up your computer to develop ROMs is, imo, the easiest part. If you can't get that, then developing will be a tedious task.
This is probably as close as you're gonna get to a guide.

ROM makers: Want a different host for your files?

For the last 6 months I've been hosting files for developers in the Eris section. I made the site to people wouldn't have to use all that MultiUpload crap, got sick of the waiting 60 seconds to download a file, entering a verification code, etc etc.
Anyways, the site's worked well. You can direct link to your files, upload everything via a simple web interface.
I just thought I'd offer the site to developers in other forums now.
http://android.grdlock.net
Anyways, if you're interested in using it to host your files, just make a username on the site real quick, shoot me a PM, and I'll give it upload permissions.
And no, this isn't an advertisement or anything. People in the Eris section have just liked using the website over MultiUpload, so I thought I'd offer to let other people use my bandwidth as well.
GrdLock, you are the MAN! I was in the Eris section before, and appreciated having the hosting you set up for the developers. It made things so much easier. Thanks!!
Its nice to see you back GrdLock! Thanks for the hosting while I had my Eris, I used your site A LOT. Very simple and easy to navigate, Much appreciated!
Welcome back.
Now, Its time to get you to start deving on the X!
Great to see you pop up over here Grdlock! Your site, all the great devs and just the support community in general at the XDA Eris section will have anybody spoiled. Good to see familiar faces over here ,we got Lexus Brian AKA "Beesley™" in da house. Things are looking better and better over here in the Droid X section.

Help me, so I can help you

Hi
I see alot of developers uploading their roms to free sites like hotfile, megashare and depositfiles. The problem is that these sites wont give users a pleasent download if the user is not a premium member.
Therefor; I would like to offer free webhosting for rom developers. I am planning that it should be ad free and with direct links. But i need your help.
I would like to host a system, so that I can create users on my site, so they can login, upload files and retrieve download links. note that many developers would like to have statistics on their downloads, so that should be possible too.
I dont know what system I should use, also, it's not that hard to make one from scratch, I just dont have the time.
I can provide mysql databases too if necessary.
Also, lets vote for a domain name :highfive:
I think there are already some platforms where you can upload and share your roms.
e.g. http://goo.im/ or google project hosting...
Also you did not mention what you would like to call your hosting service
rom-service.com
rom-service.org
rom-download.org
or something like that

Click to collapse
Actually it's not just for roms, devs can upload whatever they like.
I have 750gb storage and 750gb bandwith. I am not even using 10gb ea. It's a shame to not put it in good use.
