Having my HD7 for almost a year now, I've passed it onto my fiance since my birthday present was a SGS2, but before i part with the phone, I was wondering if there is a Wifi tethering app (Or wireless tethering app). I'd like her to have that functionality if someone has finally made it to our avail. Many thanks!
Built-in Internet Sharing option is in main settings...if your HD7 has been updated at least to 7720...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349663
Actually is has to be updated to at least 7740 or flash a custom rom.

I recently reacquired my g1 (it was on loan to my mother, who got a new mytouch 4g for christmas, since I bought my n1 in january.)
I just updated it to cyan 6.1, it won't have a data plan, but what should I do with it?
remote for my ubuntu desktop?
connect it to a weather balloon and try to get pictures from low orbit?
I need ideas, y'all got any?
Im in the same position here not even sure if its worth selling.

Same here. Keeping it as a back-up in case my G2 fails, but I might use it to pick up some JTAG skills.
You could always sell it to me cheap, I need a second g1 for devving on as mine is no bloody use as a phone cause I'm always flashing something or other
unfortunately it's not for sale, plus the shipping across the atlantic would probably cost as much as you'd be willing to pay for it.
Plus I want to do something fun with it, since it is my first smartphone...
I'm considering using it for a test bed of what can and can't be done, with out a data plan, with google voice/skype, and so forth...
I'm keeping mine forever it will be like an antique the grand Dady of all android phones ;-)
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
using it as a ps3 hacking device or just as huge memory stick
Travel phone for wifi calling and gps related stuff.
use it as an mp3 player, an ipod touch alternative
ull have froyo, games, music, videos, wifi etc..just no calls
well i successfully got it set up for google voice calls over wifi with out a sim card, which is pretty sweet.
Keep the ideas coming, I like the ideas.
Use it as a paperwieght , well... nevermind, thats what the iPhone is for...
RemoteControl for XBMC
I too have an old G-1 that I am no longer using. I would like to give it to one of my kids to play movies on as well as games and music. Do I have to root it to get around the lack of a sim card to make it functional? Any help here would be appreciated!! I have rooted and flashed Roms on Samsung Vibrant but have limited experience. Thanks in advance for any help!
I have 2 g1 but one have with signals and slide so I use it for testing new roms themes and all experiments
I am also tring to costomize my own rom so get useful there
U can also do same

Gave up on this phone and now turned it into a Voip phone. Now just gotta figure out how to keep wifi running.
As a follow up I've set my old g1 up with sipdroid and google voice for free wifi calling and texts.
I also set it up with a combo of ip cam view and webkey so that it can be used as a webcam over a wifi area.
It's a couple of cool things honestly, really love the proof of concept feeling about them, even if I don't use them.
I'm willing to try out other ideas. =P
I love you guys getting upgrades. I have bought 3 G1's in the past few months $45-80 was the range of the 3 I bought. I am running GingerYoshi on them all Sparks 1.6.4 before that. can use on wifi with skype and no sim card. Post em on your local Craigslist. For broke people like myself
unfortunately I can't sell it. It's a museum piece for me
Load GingerYoshi1.0rc3 and voip its running smooth
Have a bunch of different nandroid backups saved.
One with an iPhone layout, another with the Windows 7.
Then when one of your friends gets a new phone, rub it in their face that yours can do everything there's can times 3.
Much to my chagrin, and to yours too, you will find that Verizon has decided to remove the LG Revolution's innate ability to function as a hotspot without payment of an additional charge. Most likely, if you rooted the phone before last week, you will not be affected. However, I didn't root mine until the other day when thecubed's rom popped up and today found that my hotspot capability had already been removed. I don't really want to pay 20 bucks a month for something I already paid for, so maybe we could get a little gift from the pros here.
I have a thread that might help you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162170

So, I was bored and sitting in class, when I decided I should add my D3 to my laptop as a bluetooth device (for file transfers down the road).
After I established a connection, I figured out you can tether through bluetooth.
Here's how (for Windows 7):
1) Press Start
2) Open "devices and printers"
3) Enable bluetooth on your phone
4) Click on "add a device" in the top-left of "devices and printers" on your computer
5) Establish a connection.
6) Find your D3 in the list of devices
7) Right click the phone's icon
8) Hover your mouse over "connect using" so that "access point" pops out to the right of the menu
9) "Click "access point"
10) INTERNET
just found this out too...
is there any way for verizon to figure out that youre doing this (other than the obvious 'if youre torrenting and pulling huge amounts of data they'll know')
I don't know if they can or not. I've pulled over 15gb of data this month (on my Incredible before I switched to D3 2 days ago) using the wireless tether app. I know they can't with that, so maybe this works the same way.

No offense, but it's people like you that caused Verizon to implement data caps and the new tiers in the first place.

They offered unlimited packages then get indignant when someone uses more than a couple hundred megs.
They put the new tiers in place PURELY to make money. They know as people start using netflix and spotify/pandora they will use more and more data. They could have beefed up the network, or charged people so much money that people won't be able to use the features they bought on said phones.
They went with option B.
I didn't see this post before, I've been trying to get Wifi Tethering to work on my SIM Based (3G) Droid 3 on Telstra (in Australia).
I tried everything, new ROM, wifi tether hack, tether market apps but nada. It would connect to Wifi, but either NAT doesn't work, or something like that is stopping data from passing "through" the phone.
This morning I thought maybe I can get Bluetooth tether to work with my Asus Transformer (unrooted).
After pairing, and selecting "Internet Access" in the pairing options on the tablet everything works! Awesome. I was so close to sending this phone back.
All I need to do now is work out how to fix the CRAPPY battery life! (and figure out wifi tether when I have more time).
Cheers
If you want more battery life, get the official extended battery. It gets me through a heavy day of usage with ~20% to spare.

This works with my Asus Transformer as well. I was using my Droid 3 bluetooth to tether my Transformer tonight. Worked great!

Appreciate your comment!
I'm in the same boat as you. All I've got left to deal with now is Verizon's radio lockout of the call forwarding/waiting options, and i'm set.
I haven't got around to testing the Chinese radio yet...

The technology has been around a while, its greedy carriers that have been blocking it. It makes no sense with metered data plans, x GB is still x GB whether consumed on the phone or on a tethered computer. We are surprised the Droid 3 and other Droid phones can bluetooth tether for free without root. Why would I pay for wifi tether when bluetooth is free. I'm not sure what the speed limit of bluetooth is but I get full 3G speeds.
Mine is extremely slow on my work laptop compared to when I use the mobile hotspot. Is this normal? It's a work laptop and they still force me to use windows XP could that have something to do with it?
Is this free without any rooting/hacking?

I had a chance to get the HD7 when it just came out, however I opted for the HD2 because I'm used to the following...
1) Having my text messages read out loud.
2) It acts like a regular USB device
3) Bought a slingbox app for it
4) Skype works well with it
5) I use the Remote Desktop Connection
I know the Mango update came out yesterday for the HD7, does anyone know if the ones I posted above will work on the HD7. I'm really sad that I lost my HD2, but Asurion doesn't have it anymore. Sigh. I guess it's time to upgrade my phone anyway since Windows Mobile is dead. Anyone wanna help convince me that it's for the best? Thank you in advance.
lol, i'm in the same situation but my phone fell in the toilet. thank god for snug plastic phone covers or phone really would have been ****ted. i'm trying to figure out if i still want to complete my claim or not. but i'm enjoying this miui droid rom too much on my hd2.
Oh no, I guess it doesn't support WiFi tethering either....sigh...
hi everyone. firstly I will say that the S 6 edge is rock solid and fast. but I don't know what is going on with the U connect in my truck? my radio unit was completely replaced 3 months ago and has no issues. I have paired my phone to it , but it wont play any text messages. I had no problems with my rooted S 3 with Hyper drive rom. my cell provider is Verizon. anyone else have these issues? thanks in advance everyone
I'm assuming that uconnect needs to get updated to these new phones
my 2013 Ram 8.4an works perfectly with my Edge. i get the standard stuff i am used to. when i get a text i have an option to read it aloud. etc..
i have been using it since i bought it new and the Edge behaves the same as my previous phones.
wish i had a suggestion but wanted to let you know it works for me.
Thanks
I guess I will have to call U Connect and see if there is an update.
