Looking for A ROM. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im Looking for a Rom with the most eye candy!
I'm not worried about performance, and I'd like the battery to last a day at least.
Most roms seem to have a stock TouchWiz look.
Any ideas?

Advantages on using ROM?

Hey guys
I just wanted to know that if using a ROM ( most likely Darky's rom) will have any advantages for me.
Im currently on Froyo, rooted and lagfixed getting quadrant scores of around 1900-2000, so i have no real speed problems
I like to use apps and widgets so i dont want to have to cut down on things to make my phone better...
Will using this rom just change around the look of my SGS or will it drastically increase the performance of my phone ( keeping in mind that i want to keep all my apps and widgets and am currently getting 1900+ quadrant scores)
Thankyou
I personally don't like using ROMs. Stock JPY was pretty much the best firmware i've used and don't really see the point of using a ROM. The only reason I used a ROM (I used Doc's) is just so I can theme my phone because almost all the themes need a ROM to work.
There was almost no difference between quadrant scores. The battery life feels like it lessened for a bit though.
So personally, aside from theming, I really see no reason to use a ROM.
I enjoyed my stock ROM very much, then I tried Darkyy's ROM. The main hook for me was the level of customization it adds.
My opinion: You bought an Android phone...play with it . You can always go back to stock.
Hey.. Thanks for your comments
I think ill stay on stock for a few more days then just go for it....i can get to recovery and download mode and ive done this sorta stuff heaps before so im not to worried about any problems.
I may as well customise it to my liking once i get bored of touchwiz lol
thanks again
Im using darky v8.0 and using custom made by clever n creative person, bezke v1.1 lyquid. It is the nicer theme ever i tried. I changed rom n theme on my i9000 more than 6 time in a month. I recommend darky v8.0 and bezke v1.1 lyquid theme.

Good choice, you'll love Darkyys! Try LauncherPro with it too
Hey thanks for all comments.
Ill probably go ahead and use darky's rom and try a bunch of themes untill i find one that i like.
Thanks shaldi, bezke v1.1 lyquid theme looks nice but its hard for me to tell just looking at it on the computer.. i will need to see it on my actual SGS before i can get a real feel for it.
Also i got a Little question
If i install Darky's rom will i still be able to use touchwiz... or will it just be gone
thanks

As above. You can have touchwiz. Take a look at gtg version of TW as it adds alphabetical app drawer and landscape in the homepage.
Enjoy

Wow thats really good....
I didnt realise that that i could still have it looking as it does now...
I dont have much time at the moment to be able to fully customise and get it looking how I want......but if I can keep it how it looks now and add extra features and boost performance I think it will be great....
And from what I understand, seeing that I can get into dl and recovery mode im pretty safe
Im going to try this soon
Thanks everyonw so much for all your help and comments

[Poll] Galaxy i9000 - What Is The Best ROM?

So is it just me, or is there no thread with a poll on what people believe is the best rom out now? I've ben looking with no avail. This brings me to the question, does it not exist because we aren't allowed to have a poll like that, or am I the only one who is interested?
U find no thread because it is biased. Most of the rom's have there own pros and cons. so just close this thread

That's a negative way to look at things. Why is it that people in XDA are so quick to trash ideas or questions?.
It may be biased, but in the end EVERYONE has chosen a rom to have on their phone, so why not share the stats with everyone else? Might help some others decide which of the many ROMs to try out.
I found Tricky's essential rom to be the best regarding simplicity, battery life and performance. I like to manually install everything I will use, so that keeps the system lightweight. I only wish it had battery icon w/ percentage by default!

lol, I guess that is how my mind works... didn't even consider that an option, lol. I don't even know how to edit the poll and add it .
Flawed poll
Rom Kitchin for instance is a multitude of build yourselves roms not a single build .
jje
Darky's 9.4 + VooDoo 5.5.1 works great for me.
Using Darky 10 Final and waiting for CyanogenMod 7 Final
Darky 10 is good, cm7 is better if you can handle 12 hours of battery life... I'm on ultimate 8.2 right now and I have actually kept it on for over a week.... oh and don't forget about the goodness that is MIUI. Install that and its like a totally different phone.

i've tried Darky's ROM up to 9.5, Doc's ROM & now on MIUI..i think, every ROM got it's own strength which is amazing given that the ppl that manufacture the phones can even give a decent update even after few months..
but..MIUI is totally different and cool to use! Even though the battery drain is visible, maybe need a couple of charge cycles to stabilize..all in all, it's refreshing n can keep me away frm flashing at least for few weeks (or till the next update..hehe)..
i think this is a good poll !!
if you can find out how to edit it, and adjust when new ROMs come out.
this could save a lot of people posting pointless threads about what ROM to choose and why.
they can see what the majority of people go for, and if we can write a little explanation of what ROM we chose and why, it could be beneficial
I chose MIUI - it has developed a hell of a lot in the past few weeks, all the main features work, there is updates weekly without fail, Very helpful team of devs and the ROM is super nice and is nothing like any other ROM out there !!
For a long time I was very happy with darky 8.x but lately I have been trying out almost all the roms in the poll and since a couple of weeks back I have been a extreamly happy user of MIUI.
Feels like it have brought new life to my sgs, the only downside is the battery time.
Insanity everytime, light fast...make it your own!

Really Loving miui but I am thinking I will go back to darky because I need video calling, plus more battery will be nice.

thanks for the poll
MIUI is the one I like: very, very beautiful. Fast too, loving it! Battery isn't lasing very long, but I got that problem with others too. 7 hours tops.

Agreed.
Every pro in xda ban any idea or question except asked by pros.
Beginners and users are present in xda forum.
To the thread:
CM7&MIUI: Great but to hungry of battery.
Rom kitchen: Loads of option but no GB
Darky: Very smooth but a little hungry to battery.
Insanity: Simply Android. Plain.
MIUI -MCG v2.1 is the best ROM in town
GingerCriskelo v56 is the best

Opinions on Best Roms

Hello all
i have just been given a samsung galaxy note and would like to know your opinions on the fastest custom ROMS/Kernals ideally i am interested
in speed and battery life. what experiences have you guys had with modding your galaxy notes ?
any feedback as to your opinions of different ROMS is appreciated
-Cheers lads
The predictable Cyanogen answer with all based on Cyanogen.
Easy to flash, stock, fast, light on the battery, has the cooler stock Android ICS look. CM10 coming 'round the corner with JellyBean.
Not recommended for those that love TouchWiz and things like S-Memo.
Well at first i was scared of flashing CM based roms cuz i thought i.d loose s.memo.....but then i took the plunge n believe me m really happy with it.....

You've got a few S-Pen tuned alternatives, like Papyrus. But the gain in performance and battery is really good when you compare it to TouchWiz ROMs. Adding the fact that IT'S SAFE, meaning you can flash/wipe all you want (the CM team did a WAY better job than Samsung on that) and...the choice is pretty obvious for me, really...
If you're going to look into TouchWiz ROMs, make sure you either choose one with a safe kernel included or flash a safe kernel afterwards (I think speedmod...??? Not really sure though, you'll have to research that)
Im using Criskelo v9 rom with GL- Notecore v8.1 (OC) kernel, everything working as it should and the speed is awesome as far as battery goes ive only been running the kernel a few days and it seems ok. I charge my phone every night so battery life is no issue here.Everbody's usage differs tho, if your after longer battey life i wouldnt opt for an OC kernel.

Actually S-memo and the other sammy apps for the s-pen are better than the likes of papyrus and other apps. So for those who want/need s-memo stick with touchwiz based roms.
you guys can get angry with me but im honest to my heart,...as of now there is no rom that is completely good..im going back to gb
all tw ics roms have one major problem: SCROLLING aint smooth enough( ive tried em all)..they stutter like hell!!
and cm9 roms arent that great for battery life...
cm 10 aint fully functional...
all in all i hate it that samsung has created a wonderful device with awesome specs but totally screwed the software releases throughout...to make it even worse is black clipping!!.. im just irritated with this device, dont feel like owning a premium device...im about to sell it hopefully note 2 is better coz the spen and screen size are unbeatable!!!
Stock ROM is the best.
Hi your best option is to go for a Touchwiz rom which you can highly customize during installation. Chrack's and Criskelo are very good fully customizable rooms. They come with Aroma installation to let you remove a lot of bloat ware before installation.
Touchwiz roms also have the best kernels around. Like Note core and Speed mod. These give a very significant improvement in speed n battery. Of course cyanogen based roms r good. But the prob is u will be lacking some native drivers Samsung has integrated into the roms for the best performance. For ex, divx support is there by default, NTFS file format for SD card can be achieved, better drivers for display n graphics etc.
Touchwiz roms can crush cyanogen roms in benchmarks as well. Cyanogen can seem very smooth and fluid. But with the right launcher (apex or nova) u can easily give the rom a stock ICS feel as well. Hope this helped. Cheers

The best ROM is the one that works best for you on your phone. Try a few out and decide for yourself.
And posts like this never belong in Development.

[Q] What would be a good ROM for my Captivate?

What would be a good ROM for my Captivate? Like good battery usage, greate UI, all the other great stuff that we dream about
Good, great, awesome, is all in the eye of the beholder. These type of questions get locked pretty quick so before it does let me just say try a few different ROMs and see what you and your device likes best.

I tried hellybean, it was ok but I didn't see any huge advantages to it. Next I tried slimbean and was very impressed with it except for the latest update (2.9) knocked the gallery out of commission for me and I haven't been able to find a solution to correct it so I'm going to move on to something else.
They're easy enough to install that I'd say just throw one of the more popular ones on and use it for a few days and if you don't like it move on to another one until you find one that makes you giggly. :silly:

in my eyes.. helly bean is awesome.!
I liked helly bean a lot (was my first ROM actually) but for some reason it lags a LOT on my Captivate. The nightly cyanogenmod ROMs are much more fluid for me.
I'm still struggling some with battery life but I'm hoping to fix that with Better Battery Stats.
LaNight extreme butter project with sephi theme.
extreme smooth, battery friendly AOSP ROM.
highly recommended.

Custom rom or stock?

Hey all I would like your input. I've been debating on wether I should put a custom rom or just leave it stock rooted as I have been since I got the phone. I've been having good battery life with my one without a custom kernel. My battery last a full 5 hours on screen time i can probably get more with a custom kernel,I do miss the EQS and would like to tweak a few things here and there but besides that I've really liked sense 5. Has anyone left theirs on stock rom?

Part of life is change.
IMO, there is no comparison between stock and custom. You have so many people, not only the main devs but all the testers that spend so many hours trying to make them so much better than they come shipped.
The remove bloat, tweak, and customize. They have updates to improve speed and stability.
Yes.. try a few roms.. see what you like.. have some fun.. give some thanks..
make some backups .. donate and few bucks the your fav's and show the phone to everybody you know..
For me it all came down to did anything about stock piss me off. For me, there are a couple things that really irk me. Being stuck in a 4x4 grid was one of them. Meanwhile I'm patiently waiting for trickDroid 5.4 to drop so I can try that out as I think it addresses most of my concerns. If you're happy with stock, stay stock... If you're wanting more, try some ROMs.

I have always run rooted but stock on all my phones until I got the courage to try some custom ROM's - I tried Vipers and absolutely love it. It does everything I wanted and following his thread the updates are quick, easy and as a Dev he is VERY accommodating...
Come to XDA, ask if stock ROM is where it's at... Doing it wrong sir .
Personally, team Viper, and team d3rp, have dominated ROMs in this and previous generation phones. You don't even know!
As far as kernels go, thicklizard and MasterChefChad are where it's at... Like all over the place... Oh and we can't forget flar, great kernel dev as well; proven by his elementalx kernels.
