[Q] Porting HTC EVO 4G apps to Droid - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Hi
Excuse me. I'm new to all this. Just wondering if someone can help me or at least point me in the right direction.
I rooted my Droid and install CM7. with chevyno1 kernel. i like it and everything runs smooth. Except, I don't like the email app and the phone app that are in CM7. and don't like any of the ones in the market. the best apps I liked are the HTC evo stock email and phone apps.
I extracted them from my brother's evo but now how can I install them on my Droid CM7? is there a way to do that? or has anyone done that before?
I googled the net for hours but can't find an answer!
thank you.

HTC apps are proprietary. As in, they are made for HTC phones. I doubt it can be ported, and if it can, its probably infringes on patents or copyrights or something like that.

Thank you.
so can anyone at least point me to a rom that has similar features of the HTC's phone and email apps.
for example on the phone app:
- ability to search a name by typing part of the name on the num. key pad.
& on the email app:
- ability to search emails in the inbox.
- ability to sort emails.
- ability to MOVE emails to other folder.
again, I don't want to download and install crap from the market. because i tried alot of them but none can completely solve the issue and provide what im looking for . plus they add a load on the droid. I want a native built-in ROM app.
thanks for any help.

[Q] What is still missing on the SGS?

In the days before our official Froyo release there are a couple things i would like to ask around here.
I know everyone wants a fix for the slower behaviour of the phone...
and all of us want a GPS-fix.
But there a few more things i would to see on our phone, and i'll start with posting what i am missing, and i really hope you all could follow my lead here and fill me in.
Things missing:
-music widget for SGS music player.
-More in depth weather app..without the OBVIOUS brand-dropping of
accuweather.
-Support for local popular social-sites in the feeds and updates widget.
(like the dutch Hyves.nl or other local sites)
-An option to look for other languages in the Aldiko eBook reader.
And i know this is a bit stating the obvious; but erhm...i want more widgets from samsung in general...there are just so few in comparison to the Sense-UI!
And some of the google standard widgets should also be there too...they aren't included on the dutch version...just a couple of em...
Well, fill me in, and post your additions to let Samsung know what we all want.
(they must be reading this right?)
Buy launcher pro plus. Way faster then the crappy touchwiz. And it got lots of build in widgets.

They need to fix the way they update SGS...when we update we lose apps, no other phone when updating android does this..... Lol I had a,moto milestone and it never happened....sure back up apps, but I dont like the fact we have to do that cause of a bug.

Scalable dialer
The email app is missing the option to accept or decline meetings. This is unacceptable for business users!
The calendar is missing an option to select which calendar is the primary calendar.

Its missing more hardware buttons! other then that I'm quite happy with the device, I'm a little annoyed at not having music player widget but I've repleaced it with Lithium Music Player which I love.
Also I really don't care for touch whiz as its a piece of cow feces. First thing I do is install LauncherPro as its quite a good and fast replacement but I can't help to think its missing something
The SGS is missing a flash..
Definitly a better mail client:
HTML support for mails
Accept/decline meetings
Needs to be way faster

In the froyo testbuilds i think it remembers your last chosen calendar, so that should do the trick for you.
As for the rest i'm pretty satisfied (apart from a little lag, gps works ok for me)

[REQUEST] Assist me...

Hello,
My Google Nexus One crashed the other night and unfortunately I lost my perfected settings. I was using a MoDaCo ROM and I generated it from the online kitchen. However, when I decided to install a ROM for my phone I decided to take someones 2.3.4 ROM however... there are a few things I wonder someone would assist me with. I would be willing to pay someone if they could make these changes (or assist me) with making these changes
- Remove Browser & Map Zoom Buttons
- Modify LiveProfile to have a Gingerbread notification icon
That is all, if you need some money this would be a great way to get some.
Why don't you modify it yourself?
There are threads that will help you with this. And I recommend that you install cyanogen mod. There is alot of support on that rom.

Searched around however I was unable to find anything helpful. Suggestions?

Enabling Facebook Contact Sync in Ice Cream Sandwich

I'm using Koush's CM9 Alpha 12 ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356228 with the Franco kernel, and I'm saddened that it's sorely missing one big feature that i'm used to in the NSCollab ROM i came from. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959282)
In the stock Android 2.3.3 that came with the phone, if the Facebook app was installed, it could sync contacts over from your account, including phone numbers, emails, and pictures. The OTA 2.3.4 removed that function, as Google had deemed it as a violation of their TOS.
NSCollab (based off of CM7), which i'd used since 2.3.5, enabled that function somewhere in the system files, and it was fully usable, no questions asked. The CM9 build i'm using, however, lacks that feature.
I've compared both of their build.prop files and don't see any differences that would stand out, and I'm at an impasse here. I'm almost determined to find the setting in the CM7 ROM that allows Facebook syncing on this device and be able to use it in CM9. I'm not sure i want to comb every system file, though. Any assistance?
The reason it works in custom ROMs is because they patch it to work. It's not a build.prop issue I do not believe. It is a bit deeper than that. Hopefully someone can she some light to get it working. It's a feature I use as well.
But that's the explanation "why" it does not work.. because it's not supposed to by design lol.
by no means do I have an answer but, syncmypix in the market is a decent alternative for the tome being.

I'd determined that long ago, but i'm almost certain there's a flag somewhere in the system files. My cousin has an HTC Thunderbolt (horrible phone on the stock ROM) running the stock ROM, Gingerbread 2.3.5, and it's enabled on it. I know that Google specifically disabled it on their flagship phones, and i want to know how they did it and how to reverse it.

I have tried Syncmypix, Friendcaster, and another one that tries to re-enable native syncing, but none of them work near as well as native syncing.
In GB it was in system\app\ContactsProvider.apk , one line need to be added which whitelists com.facebook.katana. Maybe it's the same in ICS.
[edit]
There, I looked it up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978470
Here you can find the official statement from Google about Facebook sync:
http://www.androidguys.com/2011/02/23/google-drops-facebook-sync-nexus/
Anyway you can sync your contacts using Friendcaster and you can update your contact pics using syncmypix

I'd considered that, even set up a decompiling environment, but never got around to trying it. Just tried it, and found out that comparing the two ContactsProvider.apk files (from CM7 and CM9), that ICS does not use the arrays.xml that Gingerbread did. Adding it in, recompiling it, and signing it results in FC's and wiping out your contacts storage. Thank god for Titanium backup.
Edit: Derp, found out system apps aren't supposed to be signed. Trying again.

I well know what Google did, and i'm very disappointed in them. And i'd rather not use third-party apps if we can enable native syncing at the system level.
Pushing the unsigned apk doesn't cause FC issues, but it still doesn't sync. The Facebook app cuts off at "Other Settings". Does anyone want to test out the apk for me, see if they get the same results?
The APIs are different in ICS and doing the white list trick may not work. Check out the smali folder because there could be stuff that needs to be changed in there too...

I've already tried this. You'll be able to get the account to sync in Accounts, but the new contacts app is substantially different from the Gingerbread one... Like ^ says, I think a few smali edits have to be made to include this properly.
Greetz
I'm combing the smali folder as we speak, but nothing stands out as a definitive match
The one problem about ics, you're working to fix. Thanks man! I hope you find your answer!
Haven't found it yet, though. I've been trying to get into contact with koush, see if he's had any insight.
MoDaCo got it working on the Galaxy Nexus. If anyone has the galaxy yet, you could upload his rom and them comb through the /system and see what has been changed. we could then possibly implement it for the Galaxy S as well.

when you go through the Rom kitchen on their site it says the option is installed to system partition
Awesome, good looking out. Downloading it now, i'll be combing the files right away. You don't need to have the actual phone to peek at the system files
But unfortunately, it seems that it is a premium feature.

You can download it. I did earlier. Look at the first post of the thread its there.
The premium stuff is like to cook your own. I'm sure the standard one available in the first post has it implemented.

Oh, sweet. I'm not familiar with that developer, so i didn't know how he does his stuff. I'll push and pull some files to and from my phone, see if i can't get it working.

[Q] Liberty ROM; no voicemail? WTF cookies?

Hi there, I searched the forum for this and couldn't seem to find anything on it, and this had like 20 views and not one reply in the general Q&A section, so here goes;
I have a Droid Bionic on Verizon. I used Pete's one click root app and it worked great. I then loaded the Liberty rom as it was touted to have the best battery life. I love everything about the rom EXCEPT that there seems to be no visual voice mail with it. I don't want/need some fancy overly complicated vvm app like all the ones I found in the marketplace, so I was just wondering how/if I can get this resolved.
I tried downloading the Verizon VVM APK (I just Google searched for it) but then when I opened it, it popped up a message saying that my phone already had VVM on it and to use that one. I'm stuck.
I also just received a new update to my phone OTA, called 5.5.886.XT875. I'm on Android Version 2.3.4, if any of that matters.
This weekend I tried loading the UNLEASHED rom and the BLURRED rom this weekend, but one didn't have a camera app (BLURRED) and the UNLEASHED (which I'm using atm) is just slow and glitchy and I don't like it. I really wanna go back to Liberty but must have vvm for my line of work.
So, does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is there a way to contact a rom developer directly that I'm missing somewhere or something like that? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I think the dev spends more time over there.

[Q] Native HTC Mail App Question!

Hi. My wife is a new HTC One owner....and is having a hard time.
She wants to use the native email app...as its good with using more then one gmail account...but it wont scale down to fit the screen. Is driving her batty. Is there a setting she is missing. I know the gmail app does that perfectly but isnt good with more then one account (or is it with the new update????)
Please someone....help
CSW
This frustrates me as well. While it does auto scale text emails it doesn't work on images. I've done quite a bit of searching and found no solutions for the stock mail app. And no, there are presently no settings you're missing. However the solution is coming; 4.2.2 has an option for this which will hopefully translate to sense 5
Best you can do for now is switch to a different app or rotate the phone.

My solution so far is a mixed bag.
Ive tried just putting my three gmail accounts in gmail and forgetting the native mail client. It solved the scale problem perfectly....but it doesnt have an All inbox..and switching from one e-mail to another was a pain in the ars.
I then went to aqua mail.....and so far thats the one im using.
Can you please (please) tell me more about how the e-mail will change in 4.2.2? That sounds interesting....have you heard when its coming (to the states and at&t)?
Thanks

Hmm good to know, thanks, maybe I'll try that client!
Here's some who find 4.2.2 has helped them with this issue:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one-x/178937-converted-ios-frustrated-email.html
Now that I think more about this it could be that 4.2 specifically improves this for Gmail, while the manufacturer apps may not (like HTCs)... But I still maintain hope that the added option in 4.2 will translate into the other one too. But to answer your question specifically the change is just a toggle switch.
It seems kind of stupid that this is even an issue considering how basic it is...All because android doesn't seem to play nice with HTML in email apparently

Edit: oh and about when we get the OTA, soon... ish... Hopefully... a lot of Europe got it last week so others shouldn't be terribly far behind. Keep an eye on the HTC One mega thread here on XDA, it'll likely show up in there first when it hits other regions.
