The default from for the new rc3 release doesn't work on my phone, constant reeboots and freezes, so I'm wondering what other kernels are compatible with it. Currently I'm using the v52 kernel by grooby(?) But is giving me occasional reboots for no apparent reason.

I had the same problem, rc3 with the onecosmic kernel did not work, I installed the fugumod kernel, works fine for me.

you need no other kernel. Just flash RC3 over your current installation. I had these freezes and reboots too. after flashing RC3 and wiping cache/dalvik-cache about 4 times ICS seems to running stable and fast now.
Give it a try
I tried it many times, about a dozen or so. I don't think my phone likes the lower voltages the kernel uses by default. It only booted one in three times and when it did boot it never let me finish the setup screens before freezing.
@ regarding the fugumod one does flashing that one reintroduce the media storage bug? That was driving me crazy

I'm sorry that this didn't worked for you.
The media storage bug is still there even with the platypus kernel. So I think it's not kernel related.
Ahh thanks, I hadn't seen the bug since upgrading, but I don't think I had rebooted the phone since I got a working install. I tried a reboot just now and the problem showed up. Think I'll give the fugumod kernel a try.

i have had my ATT N1 for a few months now and all has been great. I rooted awhile back and have been using Cyanogen 5.0.7 to great success. I have the pershoot kernal and never really had any issues.
Well, that has all changed. Recently I have been rebooting any many different occasions. It almost always does it when I am in Maps and navigation, which is not good because I need it in my life having relocated.
I have decided that maybe I will look to update my Cyanogen or maybe go over to 2.2. I did this today and still having these issues. I tried Kang and it still rebooted randomly and when I tried Modacos r17 it just would keep rebooting at the setup screen. I think that has to do with not having the stock kernal.
Any clues as to what is happening? I really need help and do not want to stop using Android, but I need my phone to be reliable.
If it happens on any ROM and with no correlation to anything - sounds like HW problem.
Did you use overclocked kernel?
I do have a overclocked under volted kernal
sounds like bad sw. get back to stock 2.1 update 1 (if you can) and see if your phone is stable...
WIPE all ( everything ) , and flash 2.2

Follow those 3 easy steps there !
Does your phone lock up (unresponsive) before rebooting?
Phone doesnt lock up. I tried wiping evertyhing but could not wipe the sd partition. Is that necessary? I have done full wipe's (data, dalvik, & cache) and still had similar results. I have updated my kernal to the newest pershoot and I installed Kang .9b1 and so far have only had 1 rebbot. It happened when I was in the browser and went to a flash heavy site to see how it worked. Is there any 2.2 roms that keep it close to stock? I am not a total fan of adw launcher.
Have a look in this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703687
I'm really determined to figure out what is causing this issue for so many people! I've managed to cure my reboots for the time being, and it seems it is kernel related. That said, we need as many people as possible to give feedback as experiences seem to differ in regards to the ROMs and Kernels people are using.
Regards.
I looked over that thread and see some similarities but it is still not totally consistent with my issues. I am running Kang now fine but still have reboots that I won't call so random anymore. It happens when I use Maps for the first time, and definitely when I go to a flash site on the browser.
I cannot successfully use any other ROM since once I install it it goes into boot loop. This is driving me crazy and do not like the thought of being stuck to one ROM since it is the complete reason I bought this phone.
When I was on DocRambone's 7.5 JPA with the older ReOrient kernel 2.1.1 I never had soft reboot problems and then it seems I started getting them after a lot of the Captivate kernels started incorporating these small tweaks.
After reading a lot of other posts other people have been having this same problem but we have no idea what is causing it. At first I thought it was one of the tweaks that you enable in the new recovery ULF tweak section but after disabling all those tweaks and doing a factory reset I was still getting them.
I tried a very untweaked setting with haptic feedback and only bln (no lagfixes, etc...) and it still happened.
Has anyone been able to find the culprit? I've tried 2 different kernels: Reorient and SetiroN's.
When I have my phone in my pocket and I'm driving I'll randomly feel haptic feedback even though I dont have a call or text and shortly thereafter I'll get 2 small vibrations and then a reboot. Once it reboots it seems to come back up for a few minutes and reboot again. I was using ChompSMS with BLN and haptic enabled and that was pretty much the only things I changed from stock.
P.S - The purpose of this thread is to put a collaborative effort in finding out WHY our phones are restarting for some unknown reason. As this community and devs grow, sometimes problems like this arise.
I have seen a few post about the reboots. I have never had any with the kernels. Its kinda strange some of us dont have the issue.
there are several reasons for soft reboots.
if you are running an i9000 rom with a captivate modem, you will get them
if you are running an i9000 rom with a particular modem that doesnt work in your area, you will get them when the modem tries to hand off between towers.
you can get them from oc/uv, bad framework hacks, bad rom, etc. it is all circumstantial, it all depends on what changes you have made from stock....

The DocRambone 7.1 and 7.5 I9000 ROM uses the JPP modem if I'm not mistaken, and I never had reboots. It wasn't until I went to reorient kernel 2.1.2 (or 2.1.3 can't remember) that these reboots occurred.
Right now I'm doing Doc 7.6 MikeyMike01 with JG8 modem and SetiroN 1.2. I also had a previous setup of using JPP and a different rom with both kernels and had reboot problems.
If the modem is somehow causing reboots I may go to the stock captivate modem and see what's going on.
So far in my apartment the phone has not rebooted by itself (has had a constant HSUPA connection). I'm also running the ROM stock without recovering any of my apps. When I leave here soon I'll see if my phone restarts. If it does, then it would appear a modem issue may be at hand.

as i stated earlier, the soft reboots usually occur due to modem/rom incompatibilities when the modem is trying to hand off from network to network.
this was a part of our experiments with the ji6/jpk roms that boomerod, shep, and several others were testing. it has to do mostly with the 850mhz frequency.

i am on jpp right now also, and am about to go for a drive to make sure its completely stable with the handoffs.
I remember one time i did a certain combination of install rom, restore apps and apply jfs lagfix and a popup came up that said i had mismatching uid's and that i had to format /data directory.
Sure enough soft reboots all.over the place after some fc's.
I found that the best way to use the lagfix is to restore apps b4 lagfix and activate the tweaks at the same time as the fix. It works for me

Ya... as soon I started driving my phone would restart. When it's at home nice and solid connection theres no problem lol
So if we narrowed it down to a possible modem issue lets start testing which ones work.
Fatttire - If you could attach the modem you're using so we can try it out that'd be cool did anyone play with the combi bands or any other settings within the service mode?

I didn't even restore apps or do any lagfixes and I'm having this issue Good to see yours worked for you though. Hopefully we'll find a modem thats compatible with this JPA/JPP setup.
I've only used stock modems on our two captivates - occasionally they will restart out of the blue.
Once in particular I think it was because of a live wallpaper. After disabling it, everything seemed smooth running again. I just use plain black wallpaper and mine never reboots.

Ive done so many weird configs of roms/firmware/kernel/custom frameworks and I've never had an issue with reboots. I ran a 2.1 i9000 setup with HSUPA and that never ever reset on me.
JG8 is only to start with to enable 850

The JG8 is an Eclair modem, not Froyo. Its purpose is to use at the beginning of an install from stock JF6. Once you have the rom and kernel you want, you need to replace it with a Froyo (suggest JPP) modem.
Don't leave yourself running a Froyo (i.e. Shep) rom with an Eclair modem, you are just asking for trouble.
Thanks the kernel development is awesome!!!
Hi,
I came from 6.03, which was working normally. After flashing 7.01- 7.03, my phone is consistently rebooting itself every 3 minutes or so. It boots up normally, and while it's on, everything seems to be going smoothly. I have tried Saurom RC3's prop.build to see if that would do anything since it doesn't have the tweaks that Iluminance has. This didn't do anything.
Then the screen freezes for a second or two and the phone reboots. Is anyone else experiencing this? Or is there anything I can toggle on/off to try and fix it? I tried turning off OC, init.d scripts, and BLN. I also tried all (including default and smartass) scaling governors.
I'm running Illuminance 3.0. I even wiped and reflashed with cwm and odin, but still got the reboots.
Thanks for mtcarey
Your work is awesome, Much appreciated.
I am on 7.03 (after a disaster with the 7.02 update). I have not had a reboot. Even better, I haven't had the sleep deaths I saw with other KK4 kernels.
Have you tried the standard trick of just reflashing the same file again?
What standard trick? Mines Ok so far.with fusion XII+corn kernel.

fixed???
I think I got it to work finally. I flashed Corn 6.03 after getting frustrated with 7.0x. Woke up yesterday with the idea that I should try 7.03 again with an idea. I converted all partitions to RFS with corn 6.03, then flashed 7.03. It worked all day flawlesses. Today I got brave and converted to EXT4 with Corn 7.03 and knock on wood it is still working really well. It's only been a couple hours but seems stable. I have it on SIO, Conservative, no OC, no BLN, stock voodoo color settings.
Cross fingers, maybe it is good......
Im on 7.03 ext4 and 1.2oc on 3 seperate devices and none reboot, all seem stable.
I tried 7.05 on all of em, and all of em rebooted during phone calls often.

7.03 worked from that day I posted. I went to 7.05 the day it came out and still working well here.
Hello, I dont think this is the right place to ask, but I couldn't find the right one, so sorry for offtopic.
On which ROMs can I use the Corn Kernel? Can I use it with CM/MIUI etc.?
The 7.x versions of the Corn Kernel are only for KK4-based ROMs. You can't use it with CM, MIUI, or any I-9000 based ROMs.
This one is bugging me, because I can't figure out what is going on with this ROM on my captivate all of a sudden.
I've incremented through SlimICS 4.2, then SlimBean 2.0, then 2.1 and it was working fine. I figured 2.3 would be okay to go to to see if it helps further with speed/stability, but what is happening now is after it powers on, it works fine until the screen turns off. after that, I can't get any response from the phone, either by plugging in power, USB to Windows PC anything. I know it's still on because it runs warm, like some process has "run away" and I've even gotten some notification sounds from it, when the speaker volume was up. I've also tried re-flashing older 2.1, 2.0, SlimICS 4.2, but all versions of SlimRom have the same behavior. I thought maybe some file was not updating, so I downloaded CM10 (one off XDA with Devil Kernel), and that worked fine to turn off and on the screen. I was hoping I had overwritten whichever file is bad on Slim, and then re-flashed Slim, and the same behavior is occurring on all the Slim versions I've tested again. I prefer the toggle options of Slim, but would go CM10 if it's the only way. can anyone suggest anything regarding fixing an issue with the system not waking from sleep like this?
I know that in Recovery, the Power button works fine for presses, so the button itself is fine. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

You could try flashing a devil kernel on top of Slim and see if that doesn't fix your problems. Typically when someone is having this sleep issue it's a result of enabling Deep idle in the kernel settings. But being that it's happening to you even after a clean flash I don't know if thats it. But considering that when you're on CM10 you don't have issues and when you go back to Slim, which is all Semaphore you have the issues I would say it's kernel related.

Thank you Cappy m1batt1, that worked. I did have a Devil Kernel on my SD from a download link I found, and flashed that, it is working now. I have a Semaphore Manager app that came in the SlimRom, presumably with Semaphore Kernel. I found one for Devil Kernel from the Play Store just now. With any luck, I will not have to change or reinstall ROMs again before I can get a new phone...whenever that may be.
I would call this one resolved
Hey guys, so i recently updated my phone to CM10 with the Sephamore Kernel. What happens is if i use the phone for anything other than calling or texting it will crash. Any app will make my phone crash after 2 minutes of use. Even texting sometimes kills my phone, when i try and reboot it crashes at the boot animation. Only after i wait for 15+ minutes of off time or plug in the charger does the boot finish.
I've tried reflashing, different kernels, as well as going back to CM9. Still crashes. Battery life stays the same, some times there are random fluctations but it stays relatively stable. Is my battery shot or is the problem with how i flashed the roms?
Sorry if there aren't enough details, let me know what i can do to help solve my own problem
THANKS!

Did you make any mods?
Also, are you using any new apps you didn't before flashing CM10?
Did you factory reset when you flashed CM10?
Alright
1. No i didn't make/or add any mods.
2. The apps i've been using are Facebook, Google Play, Fun Run. Stuff i'm pretty sure should be working.
3. I did a factory reset/User data wipe.
As of now i am back to CM9 stable with the CWM that comes with zip. Still crahes after ~5 minutes of use.

Which version of Semaphore did you flash? Also, are you on CM10.1 or CM10?
I used the nightly build of CM i believe it was CM nightly 20130105 155Mb. The sephamore version i used was the 2.9.8c.
I think maybe my voltage is all messed up? If i just leave it, the phone works just fine, i receive texts and can send them just fine. But the second i try to play pandora or any app just anything with a slight use of memory or even go into settings it dies.
I went to the performance options of CM 9 and tried to bring the cpu down but that just froze it. Maybe a different rom? Flash it back to stock?
Just need a fix until March thats when im due for an upgrade, just let me know if i need a new battery. I might try out the new Lumia or Nexus 4

Alright, that's CM10.1. Just wanted to make sure you were using the right version of Semaphore for it.
You could try changing your governor and scheduler (I think I used SmartassV2 and noop on my cappy). If nothing works, flash back to stock after a good backup is probably the best solution (Odin KK4 without bootloaders). Start fresh from there.
Thanks! I'll give it a try
Sorry one last question. Do you think this would be a good ROM to restore to? Not sure if i have the right bootloaders since i have CM9. Never had to flash back and worry about bootloaders. Thanks!
