[Q] Phone unusable - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

PROBLEM IS NOW FIXED USING THIS METHOD: LINK
Hi, i'm new on xda (have been reading stuff here for a while though)
I have flashed DarkyROM 10.2 Extreme, DarkyROM 10.2 Resurrection and CyanogenMod 7.1 before, but tonight disaster struck
I have searched here, googled my problem but so far, nothing worked so lets try it here.
Ok so i have a few problems:
1. When i power up my phone it boots normal, i get the darkyrom bootscreen and then it goes into the setup screen, just pressing next is suddenly says: "proces com.sec.android.app.phonesetupwizard has stopped" (or something like that), afther that it just restarts the setupscreen. edit: Problem has changed, it is now stuck at the bootscreen (the screen you see the first when you press the powerbutton)
2. When i connect my phone to my pc (in this case my laptop) is doesnt recognise it, and wont install the drivers. I Reinstalled KIES, i reinstalled the drivers manually, nothing helped.
edit: tried installing drivers manually different times, different drivers not working so far
3. I can boot into download and into recovery (in my case CWM) but i cant install zip from sd card, because i cant connect my phone to my laptop (as said above). I have tried putting it on my external sd card, and then try to install it from there trough CWM (install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > external_sd/) but it just says: "no files found"
4. Found out a minute ago (9:20 AM) that i can't power off my phone either, when i do it just reboots itself. i have to pull out the battery for it to stop (duh..), when i put it back in, it just continues until it gets stuck on problem nr 1. again
so right now, i have an phone that won't boot or connect and that i can't flash because it wont connect
narrowed it down to just the USB problem, it wont recognise any drivers
i hope this is still repairable
(sorry for some mistakes in english if there are any )

Get into download and flash a stock rom from there with pit, pda, modem, csc.
Then reflash cwm and your custom rom.

thanks for your reply, but i can't flash a stock rom as my phone wont connect to my pc, so i can't put anything on the sdcard to flash.
already have Odin + stock files waiting, but i can't do anything yet

Did you try a different usb-port and/or cable?

yes i tried all usb-ports on my laptop, haven't tried another cable though as i do not have one that fits, i am now trying to connect my phone to my desktop pc to see if it is recognised there (laptop has win7, pc has win xp)

As long as you can get to download, the consensus around here seems to be that it's fixable. Just a matter of finding the tools;-) but you may have to get another cable.

it didn't work on my desktop pc either (desktop had win7 not xp) so could that mean the cable is just broken, as it seems to me its a driver problem
edit: alright its not the cable, my brother has the same phone and it works for him, installed the drivers (exept one called galaxy s >.<) and i could see his phone at "my computer" so its not a cable problem
edit 2: some extra info (dont think it matters): my brother has CyanogenMod 7.1 at the moment

Ok, too bad that would have been real easy;-)
Have a look at the last post, seems a similar situation.

didnt work, wont intall drivers correctly, also phone will show up as "unknown device" in zadig.exe
also using heimdall is impossble as it doens't recognises my phone
edit: tried it on a friend's laptop, same error, not recognising usb

if only there was a way to flash trough external usb, that would probably work right? as i can put files on my external sd, but not via usb cable to internal sd

i had a similar issue once, nothing was recognized when connected via USB.
the problem was gone after i had powered off the phone and taken out the battery for some time (half an hour or so).

i guess CWM shows the content of my external SD when i select "choose zip from internal SD" (confusing!). did you try that?

when i go into CWM and do this:

i get these 2 options:
voodoo/
clockworkmod/

Does your phone "react" if you plug in the charger?

how do you mean exactly?
i can't turn of the phone without removing the battery, and when i put the battery back in it boots automaticly and then hangs on the bootscreen.
in recovery i don't get any "reaction", in download mode i also get no "reaction"
so i guess i get no reaction if i plug in the charger

have u tried to put all the files u need to flash the phone on the external sdcard? use a card reader connected to your pc, copy them to the card, put the card back in your phone, boot cwm and select
install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard and select the external one. I always flash from my external sdcard.
hope this helps

that is exactly what i did, but the only 2 options i get are voodoo/ and clockworkmod/ there is no option to select the external sd, i think it isn't mounting it correctly or something

ok, so you don't have an additional option called "choose zip from internal sdcard"? i think that depends on your CMW version (i'm running v5.x).
unfortunately, no more ideas so far...

Finally got WF rooted, what now?

Ok after many many hours of frustration I finally got the phoone rooted, have the superuserapp so it must have been done right!?
Had Windows 7 64bit version, so this is how I did for all others trying.
* Downloaded Android SDK, extracted it contains to c:
* Started the SDK Setup and closed the first update-asking-program
* Checked out “Force https:// … using http://” under Settings
* Selected “SDK Platform for Android 2.1″ and “Usb Driver package in "avalible packages" and installed them.
* Closed the program.
* Downloaded this files: http://depositfiles.com/en/files/yz4rg8u3i
* Started phone in normal mode and plugged in to the PC
* Go in to device manager, choose "update driver" for the ADB.
* Select “Browse my computer for driver software”
* Choose “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”
* Choose “Mobile devices” (NOT the ADB Device that comes out first on the list)
* Locate the driver to the downloaded 64bits driver and it will install the adb.
* Start the unrevoke-program and VOILA!! IT worked!! After hours and hours of frustration!

The ADB changes to HTC something, dont know if it supposed to be like that? Havent really checked if the ADB is working. Is that neccessary if I want to install WildPuzzleRom? Or is Busybox an alternative then?
OKAY after explaining how I did, my question then:
* Is it okay now to try installing WildPuzzleRom
* Do I have to do a nandroid backup BEFORE that?
* Do I need to make an goldcard for this?
* Do I need a USB card-reader-adapter for this? (If I must connect the SD to the computer for putting files on to it o format it or something?)
* Is 2gb enough for that? Considering that I want have mp3s, movies etc on the card, just for flashing roms and downloading fun apps.

Is it okay now to try installing WildPuzzleRom--Should be fine
* Do I have to do a nandroid backup BEFORE that?---Definatley
* Do I need to make an goldcard for this?---nope,copy files to sdcard then boot into clockwork recovery, select install file from sdcard.
* Do I need a USB card-reader-adapter for this?---nope, i just plug my WF into usb and copy files onto it.
* Is 2gb enough for that?---You may want to get a bigger card, i use a 8gb.
Lastly do a nandroid backup, reboot phone, plug into usb and copy whole clockworkmod folder off sdcard onto your pc. In case you accidently format the card and lose the backup.

* Thanks! A quick answer! Okay, so to put the files on the SD-card via USB, do I have to use adb then? Or can I just put the phone as a usb-device and drag the files to the sd-card?
* Is there an easy guide to do the nandroid backup? It says something about installing new SPL before and stuff I really dont understand.

You Can Perform File Transactions normally , don't worry. You don't need ADB for that.

Pree the Volume Down key along with the Power Key
Wait for a few moments after HBoot gets loaded
Press Voume Down until it Highlights 'Recovery'
Press the Power Key once
You Should be into Recovery now
Go to nandroid
Backup
Confirm Backing up
Process should get started
After a Moment Backup should be completed , make sure you have 170~300MB Left in your Memory Card
You should be done by now
Also to get BusyBox working you will need to Have a ext3 Partition on your SD Card , Do it via ROM Manager.
ext3 Partition can also be utilized if you use the Dalvik2SD Patch

Okay, thanks, but then I dont set the phone to "just charge", Im going to put it as "disk drive"?
For the nandroid, I did that directly after rooted with unrevoked, but got an error-message when it was done, something said about the sdcard.
And, with busybox, is that neccessary than? Ceybercool10 said I could use only USB, and that sounds easyer. I dont know what ex3partition is.
To Mount it as Disk Drive do this :
> Go to Home Screen -> Menu -> Settings -> Connect To PC -> Check "Ask me" ->
Or
Go to Default Connection Type and Change it.
In 'Ask Me' Phone will ask you everytime , what to do with the USB Connection to PC , Mount as Disk Drive , Network Sharing , Charge Only or Sync.
Tryed again, maybe it worked, but got this errormessage:
"No sd-ext found.
Skippin
g Backup of Sd-ext.
Generating md5sum...
!Backup complete"
Is this what you mentioned I have to fix with the ext3 partition?

No it doesnt. You have to connect as device. This will unmount the sdcard for the phone itself but mount as a device for your computer.
Another way is to use adb.
You can use
Code:
adb push <pathtoyourzipfile> /sdcard/
Since you not common with linux and/or command line, i suggest you use the default way and mount your phone's sdcard as a devce to your windows pc.

Yes, thats was exactly what I was wondering about, but got another answer before wich made me wondering again. , so now its just as simple as to put the WildPuzzleRom files on the SD-card and flash via ClockWorkMod? - starting in the orders that the author has placed them in the "download list"?
After backing up the Files and putting the flash files on SD , Just follow up the Instructions on WPR Installation , All will be fine if you go by the Instructions
Yes that should work - i never used PuzzleRom but self-cooked Updates and others.
Copy the files on sd, then flash+boot/reboot.
The How-To should cover that point.

Thanks! Going to try this when I come home!
Do I start every file the same way later?
Its not the simplest instructions to follow...etc
3.Insert a new formated sdcard with NO ext-partition, did a full WIPE (Should I formate a SDcard on the computer and then put it on the phone? - sais nothing on were to put the flashfiles etc, because the 001 WPR should now be here, right?)
5.Started Rom Manager and choosed Partition SDcard (Is Rom manager a program on the phone? Or something I have to install on the computer?)
6.Had to install clockwork recovery and choosed model wildfire when asked (do you install this via Rom manager? Or is it something I have to download by myself?)
11.Unmount SDcard and start Rom Manager, choose similar to "reboot into recovery" for manual installation (unmount from computer and put in to wildfire again? And now put ALL THIS ON THE CARD?? NOT RENAMING ANYONE TO "Update.zip"???

Downloading the ROM file: I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA.rar
Downloading the ODIN & PIT files: Flashprogram_Samsung_I9000__Pits.rar
Downloading the Drivers for the PC: SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1_3_2300_0.zip
Most importantly: KEEP YOUR PHONE FULL CHARGED OR AT-LEAST ABOVE 50% CHARGING LEVEL.
Once you are done with the prerequisites, you can move down to the installation procedure as below:
1. Unzip the ROM, ODIN and Drivers to their respective folders in case it requires any password, it will be “samfirmware.com”
2.Now, the first thing to be done is install the phone drivers on the PC which you are to use for flashing the ROM. To do this, navigate to SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1_3_2300_0 folder and select the appropriate setup x86 or x64 based on the type of OS you are using on your PC.
Once this one has been installed, get your GT I9000 in the download mode by using the 3-Button combo. For that, first switch off the phone and wait for it to vibrate a little just to confirm that it is completely switched off. Then, press the three buttons: Power Key, Volume Down and Home Key and hold until you see a green android saying “Downloading”
3. Next, goto Flashprogram_Samsung_I9000__Pits folder and open I9003_Odin3 v1.82.exe (Don’t bother the I9003 in the file name. It is compatible for I9000 also)
4.Once ODIN has be opened, connect your phone to the PC while it is in download mode. Once connected, an “Added” remark will appear on the message window.
5. Next, click on the PIT button, navigate to the Flashprogram_Samsung_I9000__Pits folder and select s1_odin_20100512.pit
6. Then, click on the PDA button, navigate to the I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA folder and select the CODE_I9000XXJVU_CL851880_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5 file.
7. Then, click on the PHONE button, navigate to the I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA folder and select the MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar.md5 file.
8. Then, click on the CSC button, navigate to the I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA folder and select the GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVU.tar.md5 file.
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO SELECT THE FILE PROPERLY AS ABOVE AND DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE CONTINUING FURTHER.
9. Next, make sure that Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time have been check marked.
Once all the above steps are done, click on Start button and wait for the message window to show “All threads completed” and “Pass” displayed on the top left box.
10. Then, click on PDA button, navigate to Kernel_JVU_Fix_sdcard file, and clic on Start!

[Q] First time trying to download CyanogenMod.. so confused!!

Hi there.
I thought i'd try and get the 4.4 update for my Xperia SP as it was lagging a lot and causing me a lot of headache. So spent most of the day trying to figure out how to download CyanogenMod.. and i've got up to Now send the package you want to apply to the device with "adb sideload <filename>... I don't even know how to do that as I'm not techy at all
Was i supposed to send the package to the sd card before doing all this process? I wiped the data rom thing but had backed it up onto SD card before doing that. I restored it so I could try and move the package from the computer to my SD card but my phone just stays on a black screen
Have I broken my phone? Someone please help me as frustrated is an understatement right now. Not to mention crying like a little baby.....
Thanks in advance.
You must connect your sd card to pc through recovery or sd adaptor ( if your phone isn't booting), and extract kernel (boot.img) from the rom zip to your pc and flash the kernel (boot.img) with flashtool on fastboot mode, then enter on recovery and flash the rom zip

Your phone is broken. Now you can throw it away and hope for the best.
Okay I was kidding!
To get your phone back, you may need to at least know how to use a Flashtool. But don't worry I'll point out one by one.. I recommend viewing this post on a desktop browser, as Tapatalk does not show nested [ hide ] correctly.
The prerequisites are a Williams Kernel v7 (Direct DL link) and Flashtool and a custom ROM's .zip of your choice.
Put the custom ROM zip into your SD card by any means possible. Or you may use a OTG cable to connect to a flash drive.
Install flashtool
Execute the drivers installer located within "drivers" folder inside Flashtool's install directory (default C:\Flashtool\drivers)
Tick "flashmode drivers", "fastboot drivers" and lastly scroll down a little bit, find "Common drivers for Viskan board" and tick that as well. Finish the installation
Open flashtool. Make sure you ran it as an administrator to avoid conflicts.
Hit the lightning icon
Choose fastboot mode
Hit "Select kernel to flash"
Navigate to and select the downloaded kernel earlier. You may unable to see your kernel. Please change the file type from "*.sin" to "*.elf".
Continue. This will ask you to connect your XSP in fastboot mode. To do so, make sure your phone is turned off completely, hold volume rocker up and connect it to your computer. Once the LED bar lights blue, you may release the volume rocker.
Flashing process will run. It is important not to interrupt the process!
Once complete, remove the cable from your phone and turn it on.
Hit volume up when the lights blink to get into CWM recovery
From another guide:
3) Flashing the custom ROM
You can navigate in CWM by using the volume and power keys or by swiping the screen up, right, down, left.
NOTE: Please understand methods are vary for different ROMs. Please prioritise steps provided in a custom ROM thread. This guide however, can be regarded as a "logic" for you to flash such custom ROM.
Wipe everything you can.
WARNING: Please be careful to not wipe the /boot.
go to "Mounts and storage"
Format /system
Format /data
Format /cache
Go back to main menu
Get into "Advanced" > "Clear Dalvik Cache" (this is quite optional)
Go back to main menu
Attempt "Wipe data/factory reset"
Flash the custom ROM zip you've downloaded.
Go to "Install zip"
Choose "Choose zip from /storage/sdcard1" (I am assuming you've put the zip into your SD card)
Navigate to the zip you've copied, and select it
Choose "yes"
Flash gapps. The flashing process is similar to how you flashed the custom ROM zip based on the steps above.
Reboot the phone
You now have your preferred custom ROM installed! Congratulations! Set up your phone as usual now.
Restore your applications backup if you wish to have your apps back.
Your steps end here.

If you want to learn more: [Guide] How to use Flashtool

Need more info. Format type of internal SD? Drivers? OS? Etc...
Thank you for your reply. Are the above links given to give me a hand (stupid question certainly)?
Well, I am going to try to repair my tablet with a new SD card. But I need help right from the start.
Living in France, I suppose the right firmware must start with WW. I have downloaded all these firwares from Asus:
UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.27-user.zip, UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.29-user.zip, UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.30-user.zip, WW_10_26_1_18_SDupdate.zip, WW_epaduser_10_14_1_47_UpdateLauncher.zip, WW_epaduser_V11_4_1_17_updatelauncher.zip.
Which one should I use? What am I going to do next?
When I start it in flashboot mode, I get the message "Android Macallan-user BL released by "WW_epad_11.4.1.30-20150121"
Press ...
Starting fastboot USB download protocol"

Well you should use the latest one which is UL-K00C-WW-11.4.1.30-user.zip
I'm not sure what you are attempting to do? Are you saying that your internal data is not working or just not recognised by windows. If the later you probably just need to update your drivers on windows.
Have a search for the latest compatible windows ones for Asus.
my tablet is stuck in boot process. I did something wrong when deleting built-in apps, so I have to make a recovery.
I made some progress in the meantime. Connected the tablet to the PC, put the CWM boot.img in the fastboot folder, put Asus UL-K00C-WW-11.1.4.30 firmware on the SD card, started fatboot.exe and got the menu on the tablet (reboot system now - install zip - wipe data partition - ...), started install.zip.
Now I get the message "This package is for KOOC; this is a tf701t. Error in storage/USBdisk1h/ul-KOOC-11.4.1.30-user.zip.Installation aborted
external SD card recovery to stock

This procedure did not work. However I have installed CyanogenMod with the Cyanogen recovery on the tablet and finally coud boot. Now I would like to go back to the Asus settings. How can I do this? The Asus UL-K00C-WW-11.1.4.30 firmware, as I said before, is followed by the message "This package is for K00C; this is a tf701t.", but the tablet appears as K00c in My Computer. Different names, same device!

Did you rename the stock firmware zip file to T4_SDUPDATE.zip and put the zip firmware file on the root of the EXTERNAL SD card and power on or restart your device. it should detect a firmware update. if it does not detect any firmware update after about 1 or 2 minutes or it boots normally, go into bootloader and select RCK from the menu with zip file on the external sd card.
it sounds like you were trying to install the stock firmware zip file through the custom recovery install zip option which will not work. TF701T is KOOC... also, make sure 100% that your Tablet is the WW version and not the TW or US version!

The zip firmware file was on the root of the EXTERNAL SD card. I did go into bootloader and select RCK from the menu, then install zip file --choose zip from /storage /USB disk1h -- T4_SDUPDATE.zip.
I am going to try the other versions of the firmware.

okay, since you have a custom recovery the zip file is not detected. CM and CWM recovery are not the same. you should be able to find an installable stock file somewhere or try another rom. As long as you have a working recovery installed then you should be good to go for any updates.
This is your best bet for near stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf701/development/rom-t2999102

Since I can use the tablet with CyanogenMod now, I am satisfied. The links you gave me above helped me a lot.
Thank you. I could not have made it without your help. Warm handshake.

[Q] I accidentally wiped my OS - how to restore?

I had to use a factory reset to decrypt my phone. TWRP was asking a password (a known bug, nothing works) and I did a factory reset using TWRP. Now I get the message "No OS Installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot?".
What is the easiest way to install OS? I want to use CyanogenMod and I have the latest build zip file. M7 doesn't support SD cards but I have OTG USB stick and I've copied cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-m7.zip there. I don't know if TWRP can recognize the drive. Windows doesn't currently recognize my device.
I don't have a recovery backup because decrypting my memory (stock encryption) apparently wiped that out.
Please help me, I have to get my phone up and running again!
TWRP 2.8.6.0
I found the folder "usb-otg" but TWRP doesn't recognize CyanogenMod zip file. I'm on the install menu.
Is it safe to turn off my phone now? Maybe I just turn off the screen and connect the phone to charger.

The file you have is 18 months old
look in the developer forums for something newer
you doing it right just copy the zip to the OTG and plug it into your phone and install it

Yeah, I just noticed that (does it matter?). Can you recommend me a relatively stable build?
What is usually the name for USB OTG device folder in file explorer? "Usb-otg" folder exists even when no device is connected to my phone. I don't think that TWRP recognizes the drive.
EDIT: I found my USB device!

If you want a simple non sense rom I would use this

Please tell me if it's safe to reboot my device now?
CM is now working fine, haven't noticed any issues. I still need Google apps.
