Hello,
I want to root my samsung galaxy s I9000, but I dont know what kernel etc I should use.
Firmware 2.3.3
Baseband Version I9000XXJVO
Kernelversion [email protected] #2
Buildnumber GINGERBREAD.XWJVH
Are there any guides/tutorials around that might help me out?
Searched around but couldnt find anything.
Thx already!
I would say in the following thread you will find everything you need It's a Kernel which ist like the stock one and only adds root and CWM. a guide is included in the Thread.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Oke, and after i rooted my phone with the link u provided me, i can install roms etc?

Yes with cf-root you can instal custom rom
What version of the guides kernel do i need btw? im totally new to rooting my phone.
Thanks for all the help already!
Anyone could help me?
Try rom JW1 and semaphore kernel 2.4.0. I am using this combination and its good .
But can I take a kernel that is a other version, higher then the 2.3.3 that I am on right now? And do I need a kernel thats is build on .XWJVH, or does that not make any difference?
I think you can put the kernel with the newer version, but it will be better as the newer rom and upload to the newer kernel, you will be satisfied.
Im still kinda confused on how to flash/root my phone. Aint there any newbie guide that explains everything and makes it easyer for me to root my phone? And I still dont know if it matters what version kernel i take etc...
Thx!
You're dutch, aren't you?
Just go to androidworld.nl, that's easier for you I think...
You can normally use Kernel's that are close to your rom, but it is recommended to use only those kernels for your rom- as far as I know. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I just bought my Samsung Galaxy S after they stole my 3GS.
And i know,i should search the forum, because it has already been discussed but i'm confused.
My phone has this firmware and kernel:
i9000XXJVQ
2.6.35.7-i9000XFJ9-CL566044
[email protected]#2
2.3.4 official update via KIES(Orange,Romania)
I've been searching for a kernel and a rom.
But what kernel should i install?A kernel works with a specific ROM?Or a kernel works with all custom roms?
Which one should i install first? The kernel or the ROM?
Can you please help me?I'm really confused, and searching doesn't help.
I need step by step instructions...well...because i'm an idiot

I read the origional post and was about to answer you and then i read your last post and your poor attitude has made me change my mind.
hello every one iam just got my S I9000 ( not plus ) i want links for tutorials about how to root my phone and get the newest baseband and i want link for the best kernel and rom ( best rom in graphics/speed/games )
thanks in advance
First of all, there's no such thing as the best rom - it's like trying to compare apple and oranges and saying one's better than the other. I usually recommend people to start with stock-based roms (so no AOKP or cyanogen mods) simply because it's closer to the stock rom and usually to flash.
As for rooting your phone, if you are already planning to flash a new rom, there's not much point in rooting it now. All custom roms are rooted. If still want to learn to root (which might actually be a good starting point), you need to tell us what firmware you are currently on.
thx for replay and my firmware 2.2.1
and my baseband t959uvka7

thats not an i9000 thats a tmobile vibrant...
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm goood
Trying to flash a I9000 rom on a Vibrant will most likely brick the thing. Better to start looking in the Vibrant section instead. Good thing Paul spotted it.
his mob is tegra ?? he have the same mob like mine and i dunno where's my section !!! should i just search for any vibrant t-mobile section ??

I'm trying to find a way to root my phone. So far, I have only tried a SuperOneClick and it doesn't work. Then, I found a CF-Root thread, but I'm not sure which file I should choose. Is 'CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVZ-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip' correct? Which version of Odin should I use? That CF-Root comes with a CWM built in. My goal is to flash a CM9 on my phone. Will there also be a CMW Recovery, so I don't have to install it manually through ROM Manager? Are there any other options for me besides CF-Root?
Go to the link below and follow the instructions in the OP carefully.

But how do I know which version I should pick? My phone gives me two different versions of my firmware. First is I9000XXJVT and another is GINGERBREAD.XWJVZ. So should I get XXJVT or XWJVZ?
Edit: Never mind. This thread is a mess, I just found a guide.

guyz get JW4 from samfirmware.com... good modem with awesome battery life and connectivity..
then apply cf root.. easily available on xda
if my post helped, dont mind hitting THANKS
Hi !
I can recommend XXJW6 withCF root of JW4 and if u wish then Semaphore kernel 2.7.4 . I find it better then XXJW4. I useOptus ( Australian ) though I am in Thailand. U can also opt to use a different launcher if TW4 lags.
Thanks !

This should be a good starting point....
I can't post the link but Google "root xxjvq" and click on the first link. You might need to upgrade to 2.3.4 first, in which case you can click the link on that page for that tutorial.
Follow each step and by the end you should have recovery installed. Once you have recovery, everything else is a walk in the park. All you need from then on is to download a custom ROM (I highly recommend you go for SlimBean) put it on your phone's sd card and flash it through recovery WHILE FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS from the SlimRoms website. Google "slimroms."
Happy rooting!
Ill get back to you after i try it out...
Thanks

Unfortunately best rom thread is not allowed. but seems like you have lot to catch up. You can flash any stock JB rom from here with how to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
or for custom rom you can try them all or read and try them or just read about them, here is the link decide for yourself, find how to in the OP of each rom:

my guess would be yes for installing a custom rom over it, as i never used Franco kernel as i wasnt there on GB for too long. May be @SpyderTracks or any other member can help you with this. But yes you have to re-root your phone once you flash stock JB rom.
Best rom threads are not allowed on xda. Please head over to the development section and do some reading and decide for yourself what is the best rom for you based on your wants and needs.
