Why is it when I install some ROM's after you enter your Google account info it starts automatically downloading all your apps? If going back to stock it never does, have to do it all manually.

That is not the experience I had when I flashed the official 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 RUU. As soon as I entered my Google account info all of my old apps started downloading.

I think it's because of the privacy options selected. So add the account later after installation is complete and after unchecking the privacy options and then add the google account.

Oh god I hate that crap. It's an app called mydownloads.provider in sense roms I believe and cyanogen mod has their own version of it. It's tottally up to the Rom dev weather or not its implemented in the Rom. Using titanium backup that thing is like aids when you don't have your data counter backed up before it starts downloading 100 mb of old apps. It won't run until you launch the market and accept the user agreement however so if you quickly run to "my apps" and hit cancel all it'll abort.

How do you check for updates on apps you restored from backup?

I recently got back into rooting my G1 since the apps to SD has become stupid easy to get setup now.
I am currently running the CSDI V4 rom and i noticed that all the apps that i restored using the "Backup for root users" that have been recently updated do not show up in my downloads section of the market.
Is there a script i can run to either add them to the downloads section or have the phone check for app updates? That way i don't have to manually check for updates for every app i have restored. I would assume there's a way since people flash new roms on there G1 like weekly now.
I tried searching the forums for this but i guess i'm not typing in the right words.
thanks
Just so I am clear, do the apps show in the Downloads section of the market... or do they just show as if you do not even have them installed?
Assuming your reffering to Titanium backup for root users. Since they are not showing up in your downloads area, you either didnt back them up with market data, or didnt restore them with market data.
If they have market data with them, they will have a "M" on thier icon in the program. Restore them again with data if you have it, If you dont, then AFAIK your outta luck.
@ s15274n
they just show as if you do not even have them installed.
@ MotoMudder77
I used BlackinSoft version of Backup for root users. The free version. darn looks like i'm SOL this time around. I had no clue that i need to check anything else beside the apk section.
titanium backup also has a free version. It handles data aswell. the upgraded version has a few perks that I couldnt live without.

You could try using aTrackDog to scan what apps you currently have installed which will look for updated version of those installed apps. It's not 100% accurate but it'll help.

[Q] Restore Market apps after factory reset

So, i've tried to restore my market apps after a factory rest and flashign a new rom, it never works, no matter if i use a custom or a stock rom, when i enter the market, i can't restore the apps i had, having hundreds of apps installed, manually doing them all, is a pain...
does anyone know of any app that can do this? or if there is some way to confgure the phone or market to do it?
Use titanium, available in the market. Thank me!
Edit...by pro version for batch reinstall,pps...u shouldn't be flashing roms if you don't know about backing up and restoring!
Sent from gt i9000 insanity 8.5/fugumod
Titanium Backup is the app you want. It will store all your apps and app data in a folder on your SD...so that when you reinstall a new ROM, or factory reset, it pulls all the info back out of that folder.
While it will save and restore all your apps, the free version requires you to click "Yes" and "Done" to install each app, where the paid version will let you do it as a batch....yes to all, done.
And if you haven't rooted, AppMonster is a good alternative..

I know how to backup and restore, and i know titanium and it's not what i want...
i want a market restore, if install from titanium (which doesn't work across different OS versions) the apps are local isntalls and the market won't pass me updates from them, what i want is to have an app that reinstalls everything from the market so i can get update notifications, and so the restore will work regardless of what OS version i happen to flash into the phone.

Android comes with an option that when you sign into your Google account on your phone that all you market apps restore on their own but Samsung removed this option, so TIBU is your only hope, or appmonster

If your Market app does not detect re-installed apps, you can clear the Market app data at "Manage Applications" menu. This will trigger the Market app to rescan your apps..
Happened to me before and that did the trick.
Titanium backup has allowed me over the years to go from 1.5 -> 1.6 -> 2.0 -> 2.1 -> 2.2 -> 2.3 while changing handsets quite happily, so not sure why the OP thinks it cannot.
I did have to purge market cache and data once or twice, but as long as I remembered to run market access first its never failed to reattach or relearn what was installed post restoration.
Also found Joel (the author) to be helpful and responsive the once or twice I had a problem via emails ...

You have to enable backup data. Go to Settings>Privacy. After fresh installation ROM, you have to sign in Google account. After a while, your apps will appear.

Same happens to me. Have done several FR and even switched phone, but it has never worked (the standard from Google). Any suggestions?
As far as I observed:
The google way only works on AOSP-ROMs (Cyanogen).
Samsung disabled the option (just not in UI *fail*).
Restoring data across OS-versions does not work 100%. System-settings often work, system apps hardly ever work, Other apps sometimes make problems (Angry Birds never works for me).
With Titanium restoring completely breaks when switching from CM7 to a Samsung-ROM or vice versa

How to create account for Android Market?

Ok so I just got my Milestone rooted yesterday and installed iceandfire custom rom on it.
After doing so, I found out that there's no Android Market app installed on it. After a quick Google search, it seems there is no official download link for the app, and that it only comes pre-installed on certain devices, not all of them.
Anyway, I did some search and found that I can easily install it by just downloading the .apk file and use Astro (which comes pre-installed with iceandfire) to install it. I found the link here:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/downloadinstall-new-android-market-apk-application-v-3-0-26/
So I downloaded it and it installed fine. I then launch it and it pops up a message saying I don't have an account and then I need to sign in or create one. I click on OK to create one but nothing pops up. I rebooted my phone and did it again, still the same thing. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I've tried many suggestions, mostly from here:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android Market/thread?tid=2c6343eb1c5c4e2e&hl=en
and none of it works. Can someone give me some help?

You need to first flash Google Apps (gapps) and you will get the Market and other Google services. You can create a gmail account on your computer and use that to sync with your phone.

Ya I already have a Gmail account, just couldn't figure out how to get it to work with Android Market.
Hmm I also did find some info on gapps, I downloaded it but couldn't install it using Astro. Do I put that in the updates folder, the same as where I put the custom rom, and then apply the update? Would I have to remove the custom rom first to prevent it from flashing my phone again?
YOU HAVE TO FLASH GAPPS !!!
Do it like you flashed Ice and Fire and any other MOD in OR !!
Some times it's very important to READ a Thread and don't only search for Downloadlinks.

yup, got it flashed and installed successfully. Now I have another problem, I can't seem to get it to sign in? I get this message:
"cannot establish a reliable data connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues call customer care"
At first I thought it's probably my connection, so I tried using 3G instead of WIFI, but still the same thing. I then tried to create an account but it gave me the same error, so I can't create or sign in at all.
I did a quick search and people have said it could be that the SIM card or your service provider doesn't support it or something. Which doesn't make sense as why would setting up an account like this be relevant to your service provider? It's just the same as setting up an exchange or email account on any device.......also, while I was still using Windows Mobile on my Xperia X1 or HTC Touch Pro, I was able to install Android on it and went through the same setup process and got it working properly. So I don't think it's gotta do with the SIM card....

[Q] Root & Calculator

Hey everyone,
I have an HTC One international version, Android 4.4, unlocked and rooted. Since then I've been encountering 2 issues:
1) Whenever I delete a Google app (which is a system app) using Titanium Backup (free), for some reason Google Play always restores these apps and locks them as a system app, so I have to do the whole routine again. At first, I thought this happened because of Google sync, which automatically downloads every app I used to have on my HTC One. After I canceled the auto-sync, it continued to automatically download Google apps. How can I fix this?
2) Ever since the update and root I noticed that I don't have the calculator anymore. Is there any way I can download the stock calculator or am I doomed for?
Thanks in advance

1) you need an unsecured kernel like elementalx or bulletproof to write to /system otherwise all changes you made will be reset at reboot.
2)unlocking bootloader caused this. you can find the apk here on the forum or use any other app from the play store as suggested above.
And FYI deleting app/files in /system will prevent you to install the next ota. The ota md5 checksum will fail...
Hi, I have performed the same proceedure...... Got a calc from the play store too..... But my root never took.
I flashed the zip in recovery and rebooted, tried a few times. Once booted up use root checker and always get "no root access". What gives?

[Q] HTC One Automatically Reboots "Process com.htc.htcdialer isn't responding"

[Q] HTC One Automatically Reboots "Process com.htc.htcdialer isn't responding"
I managed to "successfully" flash the ViperOne 6.1.0 ROM onto my Sprint HTC One (S-On.) However, I get a message saying "Process com.htc.htcdialer isn't responding. Do you want to close it?" This causes my phone to automatically reboot every couple of minutes, making it useless. I also noticed some thins don't work such as the Play Store and the search bar on the home screen. It is apparent that something is wrong with the flash (even though I tried to flash it twice after I saw this behaviour the first time and I did wipe both times.)
What is going on? How can I fix it? What causes it (what I really want to know is if I were to fix it and then attempt to install the ROM again, would it cause the issue again?)

Does that mean flash the firmware? If so, that won't be possible. My phone is S-On, and from what I've read it needs to be S-Off. I tried to make it S-Off a few minutes ago using Rumrunner but it failed (because my phone automatically rebooted during the process I assume.)
Plus, I can't access my phone's storage via my computer; it doesn't seem to mount properly. Wouldn't matter if it did anyways, as it disconnects after a minutes anyways. I was hoping I could just install the stock ROM and leave this stuff alone for now.
I should mention that this is the first time I've ever tried to flash a custom ROM or really do anything "advanced" with an Android phone. I didn't expect to run into so many bloody problems. What a nightmare.

You can flash the radio from recovery.
Since you can't connect to PC while booted to rom boot to recovery and type
Code:
adb push filename.zip /sdcard/
When it's on your phone just choose it and flash once it's done flashing wipe cache and dalvik cache and you should be good

Okay, I flashed the latest radio. So far it hasn't said anything about the dialer crashing and when I open it, it actually works. However, the play store and search bar (and probably other things) still don't work. Something is still wrong.
For now I just want to make my phone work and I will try to go back to the stock ROM, though I still want to get the custom ROM working.

I flashed it doesn't seem like it's helping. The only problem that I am experiencing right now is that the play store doesn't work. It just shows a blank, white screen and seems to re-open over itself. I get a notification saying "An application requires installation of Google Play Services. Requested by com.google.android.gsf.login" When I click on the notification, it takes me to the play store and nothing happens (though one time the phone rebooted after I pressed it.) I found that I do have Google Play Services installed and that the notification is supposed to take me to the store page for the app, but it doesn't work.

Connected via Wi-Fi. My phone says I am also connected to the network, but I believe that this is false because I have not activated my phone (unless activating it on the stock ROM transfers over to this one?) and in the rare occasion that I get ANY service in this part of my home, it'd be only one bar, not four.

I posted earlier stating that I saw Google Play Services listed under my apps, and it was up-to-date as far as I know. It does ask me if I want to install it but then takes me to the Google account sign-in (which I can't sign into.) Clearing the data on every Google app I saw and rebooting did not resolve the sign-in issue.
I'm going to try to re-flash the ROM, fix, and radio because I managed to sign in during the set-up. I'll see if that clears up all of my problems.
EDIT: WORKED! Few minutes in and not a single problem so far. Signed into Google and the Play Store works. I may be speaking too soon though.
Thanks for the help!
Side question: How can I remove some apps such as HTC Apps and HTC Backup? I click on them and it says the apps are not installed but they still show up in the list of apps.
